<p>Today I'm releasing a huge pack 90+ of bokeh textures for you guys to use in your designs and photography. These were kindly provided by photographer Jill Wellington. A little more about her:</p> <p>Jill Wellington is a portrait photographer in Michigan. She lives near Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, the world's largest Christmas store that glitters with millions of lights in every color. Jill loves to spend time at Bronner's capturing bokeh to use as photo backgrounds in her portraits. She is happy to share with others. <p>I get a lot of requests to release more seamless textures here on L&amp;T, so this set is for you guys. It includes a giant selection of thirty repeatable textures ranging from paper to fabric to subtle grunge and noise. Each one of them is fully tile-able and will work perfect for website background or pattern overlays in photoshop.</p> <p>The zip file includes each texture in both 1200px and 500px sizes as well as a Photoshop .PAT file for easy integration. <p>I've got a highly useful set of stained paper textures for you guys today. These were made by using a combination of watercolors and food coloring to stain the paper. I then pressed some of them onto a plate of dried paint to give them a more grungy, block-print feel. I've seen a lot of people using these types of textures lately in digital illustration. Using the textures as an overlay in photoshop helps provide a feeling of handmade artwork. <p>Sometimes the most useful textures can also be the most simple. Today's set of fabric textures fall into that category. Maybe they're not the most complex or beautiful textures I've released, but they serve a great purpose to the design community. More and more these days people are incorporating the use of subtle tactile textures to bring a worn, real-world feeling to the work. If you think about it, fabric is one texture that all of us come in contact with every single day of our lives. <p>I both loath and love the fall months. The weather is beautiful, as are the colors of the trees and leaves, but the fact that the cold winter months are coming is always in the back of my mind. These five delicately grungy textures are a sort of ode to this time of the year. The color inspiration came from the purple and reddish hues the appear when the sun hits the dead leaves on the ground later in the day. Sometimes it's the little things that inspire.</p> <p>They were created by mixing muddy and grungy images with some leftover paper scans I had from the last set. I layered them in Photoshop with various blending modes and a healthy dose of coloring. In total, each texture consists of five various ones blended together to get the final effect. <p>The paper and book textures I release here on L&T are some of the most popular ones, and with good reason... they can be used in nearly every type of design and are perfect for adding just a hint of texture to your work. Today's set of 25 vintage book textures came from eight late 19th and early 20th century books I purchased at a small bookstore near where I live. I love sifting through the books discovering naturally worn textures and reading the inscriptions made many decades ago. <p>I've been a fan of Tumblr since day one, so it only seemed fitting that I use it as the platform for the new L&amp;T side blog: <a href="http://tumblr.lostandtaken.com/">The Texture Tumble</a>. Simply put, it's going to be a blog of anything and everything texture related. I wanted to create it as an extension of L&amp;T, a way to share the work of people who inspire me and behind the scenes pictures and info on my work process, along with plenty of links to awesome free textures from other people. </p> <p>You can also expect to see interviews with some of today's top designers, tutorials, and of course, exclusive free textures just for my Tumblr followers. <p>This set of stained vintage paper textures have been about a week in the making, but I think it's been worth the wait. To make them, I disassembled some of the early-mid 20th century books I have around here, and placed sheets of paper in baking pans. I then used a mixture of tea, instant coffee, and a few watercolor paints to coat the paper in the pans. After a couple of days the mixture would evaporate and leave interesting stains on the paper, I repeated this staining/evaporating process three times to get a layered look. </p> <p>These textures have a ubiquitous vintage and grunge feel and should prove useful for many of your design needs. <p>The death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs yesterday has really seemed to hit home with the design community, and for good reason... the company he built plays a big role in many of our lives and his own life has helped inspire us.</p> <p>In the last eight years I've only owned two iMacs and two iPods, far from fanboy status. Nevertheless, the first computer I ever used was an Apple when I was four years old, when my interest in design and photography began in high school I would stay after hours in the Mac lab and work on projects, and everything I've created for the design community has been done so on an Apple product. There's no doubt that Steve's creations have played a big role in my own creative career, and for that I'm thankful he had as much passion as he did.</p> <p>I put together a set of six, grungy textures based on the color palette for the classic rainbow Apple logo as my own sort of homage to Mr. Jobs.
