Something Awful just posted some hilarious movie poster mash-ups, matching images to titles that result in inappropriate allusions to the core premises of each film.

San Francisco-based photographer Rob Kroenert is responsible for the above image of Horsetail Falls, a seasonal waterfall in Yosemite that due to the positioning of the sun during part of February, reflects the last rays of the day in such a way that makes it look like molten lava.

Illustrator Zachary Zezima’s style kind of makes me think of what it would be like if Edward Gorey directed Liquid Sky.

Traditional potato chips or ones of the baked variety? Usually the answer is quite simple, but when these toasted Crips, with their Wes Anderson-like bags, are involved, the decision is much more difficult than one would expect. I just can’t refuse the Thai Sweet Chili Chips surrounded by a couple of 50’s fashionably attired Squirrels. Video projection on architecture is an obsession of mine. Building facades are rarely considered flexible canvasses, but with the art direction of Daniel Rossa, UrbanScreen were able to come up with this captivating project in Hamburg called, 555 Cubik. The concept of which was entitled, How It Would Be, If A House Was Dreaming. It’ll make you say, ‘Woooo, Ahhh’.

So MGMT are set to bring back their flutes, horns and psychedelic falsetto melodies on their forthcoming album, Congratulations. But this teaser track seems to cram every imaginable genre into the space of less than five minutes, resulting in an interesting sound, to say the least. Is this not one of the cutest things you have devoured with your eyes? Who would’ve thought that the humble emergency emblem could look so swell as a cushion? With a magpie-like obsessiveness, Melbourne-based designer, Suzie Stanford, collects vintage tapestries and tea towels from auction houses, curio shops and flea markets. She then retells their unique histories by creating vibrant patchworks for her one-off furniture pieces.

This vitriolic rant by author and screenwriter Harlan Ellison (from the upcoming documentary about him called Dreams With Sharp Teeth) really hit a nerve with me. As someone who works in creative fields, I’ve encountered countless people/employers who think because I enjoy art and writing, I will be happy to do it for free. A friend of mine who I showed this to said, “I work on children’s cartoons. People think I work in a puffy cloud where bunnies do the work for me.” In a post-2.0 media landscape, companies think that anyone can write, make films, draw pictures, and do graphic design, so they are less willing to pay for quality work. I’ve known some web publishing companies that, when the recession hit, cut their editorial staff before anyone else, assuming that editing and writing aren’t real work, and not vital to a publishing company. I’ve also known videographers who used to make a living doing internal corporate videos but now can hardly find such work as YouTube has convinced companies that they can easily produce videos themselves. Any of you creative types encounter the same sorts of frustration?

Wearing this print will not only geek the fashionistas at their own game, but also guarantee inner peace at the bitter end. Or maybe not. But it will strike fear into the hearts of psychiatrists around the world, and you just never know when that might come in dead handy.
