I really like the minimalist style of this animation by George Shelbourn. The color scheme makes me feel like I’m at an old arcade. It also experiments with the letterbox aspect ratio. I love it when movies play around with their format in unexpected ways.

Ali Murtaza is a young Pakistani designer who has combined his love for technology, detailed illustrations, and optical illusions into a project that is both remarkable in its execution and insightful in its thought process. Standing in his room of illusion seems both fun and confusing.

SPLASHH is a London-based band. I got exposed to their sounds from my friend Leif, who did some of their artwork. They played their first ever show at the Garage in Islington earlier in May. Their sound reminds me of 90s shoegaze bands that have a sun-drenched pyschedelic pop flavour. Their track, All I Wanna Do, is a fun single that shows great promise.

Who said that sloths are ugly? Take it back. This was a teaser for a documentary which aired on the Animal Planet in the UK called Meet the Sloths. WANT!

I got the chance to meet Steve Seeley during an exhibition of his work, titled All We Ever Do Is Fight, at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago a few months back. Not only is he one of the nicest guys I’ve met, but the precision of the line-work and the perfectionist execution of his work is inspiring.

The obvious influence of comic books really made my inner child weak at the knees. I found the stark, almost stupid posing of characters in his newest series of fighters with various enlarged creature and animal-based heads particularly charming.

Nadir Tejani is a fashion designer based in Portugal and London. He is a London College of Fashion graduate who has released two collections to great acclaim. Stumbled upon Lundi’s work on Tumblr recently through a reblog and fell in love with it. The errie, foggy atmosphere in Lundi’s work is really fitting to the black and white tone, as well as the simplistic yet spooky characters that appear in the illustrations.

This is a fun personal project for me. I have got to see a lot of different models since relocating to London, where new models come through as part of their travels. One of the things I have noticed from going through model portfolios was how different each girl looked in real life to the pictures in their books.

The idea of this photo project was to have a picture of each girl as natural as I got to see them, in front of me, rather than recreating another character that I will not recognize in their portfolio. I was more interested in seeing the girl in front of me and hopefully you can too from the project.

London-based illustrator Jake Blanchard defines being a successful freelance artist. From creating posters, record and CD sleeves, shirts and skateboards, this guy is a busy little bee. Inspired by things ranging from the natural world to mythology, his illustrations come off as playful but psychedelic.

I had stumbled across this video from a brain pickings article and had also recently read The Element by Ken Robinson. He is a really interesting character. I first heard of his talks on TED a few years ago and his ideas had always stuck with me. I recognize the spirit he wanted to promote in kids, just like what I had gotten from skateboarding and punk rock had inspired a generation of youngsters making ideas come to life.

Blank City is a documentary about the late-70s underground film culture in New York City. The film is directed by Céline Danhier and is full of great stories and rare footage of film-makers and their friends who were around the city doing what they felt was right in film-making. The film is acts as a love letter to all those who had influenced contemporary culture and it is an excellent cultural document for anyone interested in making something from nothing.

This is 50 Cent Back on his Grind. I wish that he could just release music like this with no big features and radio songs. It is for his true fans, like me, who like the hip hop with no filter. Also, having DJ Drama hosting this gives this more of a stamp in the hoods down south. Can’t wait for the new album.

Bertil Nilsson is a Swedish photographer who lives and work in London and who takes inspiration from the human form and collaborates with circus artists and dancers. This is some of his latest work.

As an illustrator and graphic designer, I find that whether it’s through their art or music, there are some personalities that simply change the way you look at the world. In an attempt to pay homage to their talent, I’m working on a series of illustrations featuring the likes of David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali. My work tries to capture the essence of their work, and at times imagines what they’d do in our current technology-savvy age. Warhol on Facebook? But, of course.

It’s been a while since the electronic-indie band Hot Chip released a new track, so when I found about their new music video, I was just ecstatic to see it. The song, Night and Day, which features well known musician and comedian Reggie Watts, is a great tune that makes you bop your head around. Directed by Peter Serafinowicz, the music video is something else: from spaceships to people choreographically dancing in cult-like attires.

What’s not to love about a kitschy t-shirt company that gives part of its profits to fund sustainable projects in Pakistan? Uth Oye! (literally meaning ‘Get Up!’ in the local vernacular) sells its sassy pop culture designs to a young audience eager to see their philanthropic efforts.

Local generator party punks, The Sinking Teeth, are ready to bite your golden ear lobes off and spit out a juicy new track from their upcoming EP. This title track, Carcass, is an appetiser for their debut EP, to be served fresh and lean late July.

It’s a sad fact that natural disasters come and go, ruining land and leaving damaged homes and heartaches. Award-winning photographer, Gideon Mendel, has captured the tragic after-effects of floods from different countries since 2007 to visually address the issue of climate change.

He photographs portraits of the people affected to show them as individuals rather than nameless statistics. From photos of them walking through deep floods, to the aftermath of what happened in their homes, these images are the sad realities of the dark side of mother nature.

Ryan Andrews combines his wonderful illustrations with touching storylines to create web-comics that make a person feel they have experienced something magical. His monochrome ink illustrations are incredibly well-thought out, and he’s kind enough to show us his process work as well. Score!
