Comic-Con 2010 is this week. While there won’t be the kind of LOST panel that we’ve seen in the past, there will be plenty of events featuring LOST actors, writers, and fans.

4:30-5:30 LOST’s composing genius Michael Giacchino will be a member of the panel in Behind the Music with CW3PR: Composing for Sci-Fi, Horror, and Fantasy Film & TV.

10:15-11:15 Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) will be on the panel Aloha, Earth! discussing the remake of Hawaii Five-0. Kim was the first actor cast for the show (he will play Detective Chin Ho Kelly), which also stars Alex O’Loughlin (Moonlight), Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica), and Jean Smart (Martha Logan on 24). The show will start in the fall on CBS.

7:30-8:30 30 Days of Night: Dark Days This panel is for a movie based on a graphic novel, starring Kiele Sanchez, who played the ill-fated Nikki Fernandez (as in, Nikki and Paulo) in LOST’s most hated sub-plot. Wishing her better luck in her new role.

1:00-2:00 The Write Stuff: Creating Genre Television. Among the 11 writers on the panel are two from LOST — Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Jesse Alexander. This looks like a very interesting event. As does the next one:

1:00-2:00 The Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack. Here’s the official description: “Father and son team Jay and Jack Glatfelter have one of the oldest and biggest podcasts dedicated to ABC’S Lost. Discuss the stirring series finale, and learn about the huge dedicated online community for TV’s most mind-twisting drama. Join Jay and Jack for this special interview and Q&A session!”

2:30-3:15 V Screening and Q&A with, of course, Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet). V will be coming back in the middle of the fall season.

4:15-5:00 The Vampire Diaries Screening and Q&A with Ian Somerhalder (Boone). Vampire Diaries will be back in the fall.

This one may be the most LOST-centric event of all:

6:00-7:00 Lost But Not Forgotten Official description: “Lost Encyclopedia authors Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, along with other special Lost guests, discuss this seminal show’s legacy, their thoughts on the finale, and the creation of the forthcoming Lost Encyclopedia.”

11:15-12:15 Cartoon Network: Tower Prep with Firebreather Sneak Paul Dini, the creator of this new live-action mystery show, was a writer and story editor on LOST.

Editing to add: I just noticed that JOpinionated has a list that includes these events I missed: Sterling Beaumon (Young Ben) and Andrea Gabriel (Nadia) signing autographs; a Friday night casual get-together with Jay & Jack; executive producers/writers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis on a panel on Thursday 11:15 to 12:45; Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia) on a panel Thursday 1 to 2; J.J. Abrams on a panel Thursday 3:30 to 4:30; Elizabeth Mitchell on two more panels in addition to the V panel listed above (Friday 4-5 and 6:30-7:30); and Lance Reddick, who played my favorite non-starring character (Matthew Abaddon), in a Fringe panel on Saturday 3:15 to 4:15 .

Vilcek Foundation LOST Exhibit catalogue now online

The Vilcek Foundation just announced that they have posted on their website the exhibit catalog and exhibit book, along with fan photos, comments, and drawings, from the LOST exhibit in New York that closed on June 5.

The catalog has descriptions of all the props that were shown in the exhibit, including who made them, what they were made of, descriptions of what they meant in the show, memorable moments where they were used, and sometimes notes about odd facts or mistakes, such as Jack Shephard’s name being misspelled on the envelope of Locke’s suicide note.

The book has interesting interviews with some of the members of the cast and crew.

I’ll be posting the rest of my photographs from the exhibit here on the blog when I finish fiddling around with them.

I went to the Vilcek Foundation exhibit on closing day, Saturday, June 5, 2010. It was in a small-ish gallery — two rooms, connected by a hallway — that was nice and cool on a hot, muggy day.

Photos on the wall celebrated the multi-cultural backrounds of the LOST crew and cast. The rest of the space was filled with props from the show, including Sawyer’s letter, Charlie’s heroin-filled statues, the Dharma bus, Hurley’s winning lottery ticket, costumes, hieroglypics from the Temple walls, Jughead the bomb, and the frozen donkey wheel.

Here are the first few pictures. I’ve got a lot more, which I’ll be posting later.

A friendly policeman stood right next to the door. I couldn’t figure out why the show needed police protection. Were they expecting a riot, with fans who liked the ending brawling with fans who didn’t? Just kidding. Maybe some celebrities were expected to come by later. Or maybe it was because the props are valuable and they were guarding against theft. In any case, he seemed to be having an easy day:

The first thing you see when you enter the gallery is Mr. Cluck’s chicken, Dogen’s costume, and a Dharma bus — a shiny Dharma-vintage one, not the crumbling old one that Hurley drove in the meadow:

Vilcek Foundation LOST exhibit in NYC closes on Saturday, June 5, 2010

An organization called the Vilcek Foundation, which honors foreign-born artists and scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the United States, has been running an exhibit of LOST props and images, with a unique focus on immigrant and first-generation contributors to the show.

The exhibit opened on May 20, and will have its last day this Saturday, June 5. I’m going to try to go before it closes, since I’m in New York now.

It looks like they have a lot of cool stuff there. I’ll try to take some of my usual out-of-focus pictures.

The rerun of the finale is the “enhanced” version

Just a heads up, that tonight’s (Saturday, May 29, 2010) rebroadcast of the LOST finale (6×17-18 “The End”), which just started a few minutes ago on the East Coast, is one of those “enhanced” episodes with the pop-up hints.

5/31 Editing to add: The enhanced version of “The End” is available on Hulu (scroll down — it’s underneath “Episodes” and “Clips”).

The light-filled cave

ABC is going to rerun the LOST Finale and also the Jimmy Kimmel post-LOST special (“Aloha to Lost”) on Saturday, May 29, 2010, starting at 8:00 PM (7:00 PM Central Time) in the U.S.

The running time for the finale has shrunk down from 2 hours and 30 minutes, for the original broadcast, to only 2 hours and 5 minutes for the rerun. That must mean far fewer commercials this time around.

Here’s the schedule, but you should check your local listings to make sure:

8:00 – 10:05 PM Rerun of the LOST finale 6×17-18 The End

LOST’s Unanswered Questions

A fast-paced, funny look at some of LOST’s unanswered question, by College Humor:

As packed with unanswered questions as that video is, there are still plenty more.

I’ll add more here, as I think of them (and feel free to chime in, if you think of more too):

1. How did Anthony Cooper get to the Island in the “magic box” (in “The Man from Tallahassee”?) Smokie couldn’t have taken over his body, because his body wasn’t on the Island.

2. Why did Jacob choose the LOST-ies, out of all the billions of flawed people in the world?

3. Why — and how — did the Island travel in time?

4. Who were the kids dragging the teddy bears?

5. Why did so many of the LOST-ies have a connection to each other, before they got on Flight 815, without knowing it? Why did we always see them criss-crossing through each other’s flashbacks?

6. Why — and how — did Hurley see dead people?

7. Why — and how — did Miles get messages from dead people?

8. What were Walt’s special powers? What about that bird?

9. Why did Flock yell out RealLocke’s signature line, “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!”?

10. How did Smokey inhabit Christian’s body, when Christian’s body was missing?

11. How did the guardians of the light live for so long? How did Jacob transfer that ability to Richard?

12. Locke got Helen. Hurley got Libby. How come Sayid didn’t get Nadia in his flash sideways?

13. If Jacob/MiB’s fake mother made the rule that the brothers couldn’t kill each other, why didn’t she extend it to say that they couldn’t kill each other by proxy either? And how do these rules get enforced, anyway?

14. How did Eloise know so much?

15. When the LOST-ies went back on Ajira 316, why did they all have to go back together, including Kate who wasn’t even a candidate? Why did Eloise tell Jack he had to bring Locke in a box? Why did they have to make the conditions as much like Flight 815 as possible?

16. How did Frank Lapidus end up being the pilot on Ajira 316?

17. Why did Jacob need to bring so many people? Why not just one person to replace him, and a couple of alternates in case the first one got sick?

18. How come Jack and Desmond didn’t turn into smoke monsters when they went into the cave?

19. After Locke asked Walt, in the Pilot, if he wanted to know a secret, did he ever tell him? And what was the secret?

20. Why did all the people in Purgatoryland Church appear to be the same age they had been in 2004? Surely some of them had lived to old age before dying. Was Limboville so Jack-centric that everyone chose to look the way they had at the time that Jack, not they themselves, had died? Or was this all being told from Jack’s point-of-view (so he would remember them the way they were when he last saw them)? But didn’t Christian said that Limboville was something they had all made together — a kind of team project — which suggests it couldn’t be just Jack’s vision?

21. When Jacob told the MiB at the end of Season 5, when they were back in the 1800s, “It only ends once. Everything else was just progress,” what was he referring to?

22. Why did we see the Island underwater at the beginning of Season 6?

23. After Jack and Kate confessed their love to each other before Jack died, they didn’t get together in the sideways world. Kate, in fact, kept on flirting with Sawyer. Is this the attraction so strong it can’t be denied, even after death? Will the triangle continue for all eternity, while they are frolicking in the bright light? I didn’t see any indication in their sideways flashes that Kate or Sawyer wanted to “let it go.” Just the opposite — it looked like they were just getting started, gearing up for another round.
