Now that I've lived in the USA for more than eight years, it probably shouldn't come as any surprise to anyone that I actually rather enjoy living here. Sure, we live against an uncertain political backdrop and Twizzlers are still a thing; but I'm not here to focus on the negatives. And that's because America still has a boat-load still to offer. Flying, frequent flying, like taking a flight every few weeks as I tend to do for work, is a strange phenomenon for most English people. England is small—fitting into America’s largest state, Alaska, more than 10 times—so flying from one end of the country to the other isn’t commonplace. In America we do it all the time, particularly out west.

It’s not every evening I get to perform Google searches for “women’s hair accessories”—usually just Saturday evenings when the wife is out. But this past weekend, I had genuine, research-based motivation for doing so: it occurred to me that there is an oddly high number of hair terminological differences between Britain and America.
