هو مراسل صحفي عراقي لقناة البغدادية من مواليد 1979. اشتهر بقذفه زوجي حذائه صوب الرئيس الأمريكي جورج بوش أثناء انعقاد مؤتمر صحفي في بغداد في 14 ديسمبر 2008، فأصاب أحدهما علم الولايات المتحدة خلف الرئيس بعد أن تفادي الحذاء، وبحسب القنوات الفضائية (الرافدين والبغدادية) فقد كسرت ذراعه أثناء اعتقاله من قبل الحرس القائمين على الرئيس الأمريكي ورئيس الوزراء العراقي نوري المالكي.
وقد أودع في أحد السجون في العراق بعد الحادث مباشرة، ويذكر ان الرئيس بوش أكمل المؤتمر الصحفي مع المالكي. وفي تعليق لبوش على الموقف قبل 17 يوم على انتهاء ولايته الدستورية كرئيس للولايات المتحدة قال: «هذا أغرب شيء أتعرض له»[2]. ويذكر أنهذه هي الزيارة الرابعة لجورج بوش إلى العراق منذ عام 2003 ( انظر زيارات جورج بوش إلى العراق .
سبق لمنتظر أن اختطف في 16 نوفمبر 2007 فيما كان يتوجه إلي مقر عمله وقد عاد إلى أسرته في التاسع عشر من نفس الشهر بعد ثلاثة أيام من اختطافه دون دفع فدية مالية وقد نقلت وكالة أسوشيتيدبريس عن أحد محرري القناة قوله: "إن أحد زملاء الزيدي اتصل بهاتفه المحمول ظهر الجمعة فرد عليه شخص غريب وقال له (إنس منتظر)" وقال المحرر للوكالة "إن هذا عمل عصابة اجرامية، لأن تقارير منتظر كانت دائما معتدلة ومحايدة".
منتظر الزيدي يسكن مدينة الصدر، إحدى ضواحي بغداد والتي تعتبر معقل التيار الصدري بزعامة مقتدى الصدر. وقد شهد اليوم التالي لحادثة رشق الرئيس بوش بالحذاء تظاهرة شعبية في مدينة الصدر تطالب باطلاق سراح الزيدي بحجة أنه كان يمارس الديمقراطية التي تدعو إليها الولايات المتحدة.

من هو منتظر الزيدي "قاذف الحذاء"؟
احتل اسم الصحفي العراقي، منتظر الزيدي، صدر كثير من الصحف العربية والأجنبية الاثنين، إثر العمل غير العادي الذي قام به، والمتمثل بإلقاء حذائه باتجاه الرئيس الأميركي جورج بوش، أثناء مؤتمر صحفي بمشاركة رئيس الوزراء العراقي، نوري المالكي.
ولكن من هو هذا الصحفي، الذي قام بهذا العمل غير العادي:
يعمل الصحفي منتظر الزيدي، "قاذف الحذاء"، في قناة البغدادية الفضائية العراقية منذ انطلاقها في العام 2005. وبرز اسمه للمرة الأولى عندما تعرض للاختطاف على أيدي مجهولين أثناء توجهه إلى مقر عمله في السادس عشر من نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني عام 2007.
غير أنه وبعد ثلاثة أيام من الاختطاف، أطلق الخاطفون سراح الزيدي، البالغ من العمر 29 عاماً، دون مقابل مادي أو فدية.
وخلال عملية اختطافه، خصصت محطة "البغدادية" التي يعمل برنامجاً من ساعتين له في 18نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني من العام نفسه، وفق موقع مراسلون بلا حدود.
وبعد إطلاق سراحه، رحبت منظمة مراسلون بلا حدود بإطلاق سراحه في بيان لها، وقالت: "نرحّب بعودة هذا الصحافي سالماً معافى إلى أسرته بعد أن أثارت عملية اختطافه موجة من القلق في العراق التي شهدت تصفية عدة صحافيين في خلال اعتقالهم هذه السنوات الأخيرة."
وقالت المنظمة آنذاك إن وكالة الأنباء العراقية- أصوات العراق أفادت بأن الصحافي عاد إلى حضن أسرته في 19 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2007 إثر مروره بالمستشفى لإجراء فحص طبي.
ومن المعروف عن الزيدي مهاجمته للسياسة الأمريكية في العراق من خلال التقارير التي يبثها من على شاشة قناة البغدادية. وتظاهر المئات من العراقيين في بغداد، الاثنين مطالبين بإطلاق سراح الصحفي العراقي منتظر الزيدي، الذي قام برمي فردتي حذائه صوب الرئيس الأمريكي جورج بوش خلال مؤتمر صحفي مشترك الأحد، مع رئيس الحكومة العراقية نوري المالكي في العاصمة بغداد. ونقلت مصادر إعلامية أن المظاهرة انطلقت من مدينة الصدر باتجاه ساحة الفردوس ببغداد للمطالبة بإطلاق سراح منتظر الزيدي فورا. وأضافت المصادر أن عدداً من المتظاهرين توجهوا صوب نقابة الصحفيين العراقيين شمالي بغداد، وهم يحملون لافتات تؤيد تصرف الزيدي، وفق ما نقلته وكالة الأنباء العراقية. بموازاة ذلك أنبرى عدد من المحاميين العرب والعراقيين للمرافعة عن الصحفي الذي وصفوه بـ"البطل" لفعلته، مناشدين المنظمات الحقوقية الدولية للضغط على السلطات العراقية للإفراج عنه. وكان الزيدي قد رمى الرئيس الأمريكي بحذائه خلال مشاركته بمؤتمر صحفي عقده الأخير ورئيس الوزراء العراقي، وذلك تماشياً مع الديمقراطية وحرية التعبير. وكانت فردة حذاء الزيدي الأولى قد مرت بمحاذاة رأس الرئيس الأمريكي، الذي تنحى عنها، فيما هرعت حشود وانقضت على الرجل، ثم نقلته إلى غرفة مجاورة. أما فردة الحذاء الثانية فأصابت العلم الأمريكي خلف جورج بوش، دون أن تسقطه. وفيما سمع صوت الصحفي وهو يصرخ في غرفة مجاورة، قال بوش مازحاً "مقاس حذائه 10 لمن يرغب في أن يعرف." واستفاضت وسائل الإعلام الغربية في تفسير المعاني الرمزية لإلقاء الحذاء في وجه آخر في الثقافة العربية، وكذلك الجلوس متقاطع الأقدام أمام شخص آخر، مشيرة إلى أن هذا الأمر يعد إهانة عن العرب، رغم أن ألقاء الحذاء في وجه آخر تعد إهانة عند جميع الشعوب. وتطرقت إلى ما فعله العراقيون عقب سقوط بغداد عام 2003 وقيام عشرات العراقيين بضرب رأس تمثال الرئيس العراقي الراحل صدام حسين بالأحذية. غير أن بوش تقبلها بصدر رحب، وخصوصاً أنها جاءت في أعقاب التوقيع على الاتفاقية الأمنية بين بغداد وواشنطن. ووصفت تقارير صحفية الحادثة بأن نهاية تدخل بوش في العراق كانت كبدايتها، وأنها تميزت بالفوضى والغضب، في إشارة إلى إلقاء الصحفي الحذاء على بوش. فيما نقلت أن الصحفي تابع توجيه الإهانات اللفظية، وأنه نعت بوش، الذي قام برابع زيارة وآخرها للعراق، بـ"الكلب".

If you remember the essence of the story,

One day Henny-Penny was in the corn yard when--whack!--something hit her upon the head. "The sky's falling, the sky's falling!" cried Henny-penny; "I must go and tell the King."

As she went along she met Cocky-locky, who asked, "Where are you going, Henny-penny?" "Oh! I'm going to tell the King the sky's falling," said Henny-penny. So Henny-penny and Cocky-locky went to tell the King the sky was falling.

Soon they met Ducky-daddles. "Where are you going to, Henny-penny and Cocky-locky?" asked Ducky-daddles. "We're going to tell the King the sky's falling," said Henny-penny and Cocky-locky. So Henny-penny, Cocky-locky, and Ducky-daddles went to tell the King the sky was a-falling.

Soon they met Goosey-poosey who asked, "Where are you going, Henny-penny, Cocky-locky, and Ducky-daddles?" "We're going to tell the King the sky's falling," said Henny-penny, and so, Henny-penny, Cocky-locky, Ducky-daddles and Goosey-poosey went to tell the King the sky was falling.

Soon they met Turkey-lurkey, and then Foxy-woxy, on their quest to tell the King the sky's falling. But Foxy-woxy said, "But this is not the way to the King. I know the proper way; shall I show it you?" "Certainly, Foxy-woxy,' said Henny-penny, and they all went to tell the King the sky was falling.

But soon they came to a narrow and dark hole, the door of Foxy-woxy's cave, and Foxy-woxy said "This is the short way to the King's palace, so just follow me."

As Foxy-woxy went into his cave, Turkey-lurkey followed until, "Hrumph", Foxy-woxy snapped off Turkey-lurkey's head and threw his body over his left shoulder. Then Goosey-poosey followed, and lost her head and was thrown beside Turkey-lurkey. Then Ducky-daddles waddled down, and Foxy-woxy, snapped off her head and she was thrown alongside Turkey-lurkey and Goosey-poosey. Then Cocky-locky strutted down into the cave, and met the same fate.

But Foxy-woxy had made two bites at Cocky-locky, and when the first snap only hurt Cocky-locky, but didn't kill him, he called out to Henny-penny who turned tail, ran for home, and never did tell the King the sky was falling.

The ever-increasing attention given to environmental concerns coupled with high energy costs have made the subject of "green buildings" and "green workplaces" one of the hottest topics around. Here is how safety fits in.

As a safety professional, you not only can take an active role in the workplace greening process, you also can—and undoubtedly should—take the lead on initiatives that will increase the health of your workforce as well as the health of your organization's bottom line.

"Greening"—sometimes called "environmental stewardship"—means taking responsibility for reducing the environmental impacts of the services you provide and the businesses you operate, according to a white paper produced by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), "Safety Implications of Greening: Hospitality Executive Leadership Opportunities."

Some examples of greening, according to the paper's authors, include:

Reducing the Use of Hazardous Products and Materials

-- This reduces safety and health risks to employees, and it also reduces the amount of hazardous wastes to be disposed.

Using More Energy-Efficient Equipment In Heating, Cooling, and Lighting, and In Construction Materials for Remodeling or Expansions

Recycling

Including:
-- Electronic goods
-- Reusable product packaging around single-use items
-- Life cycle product analysis

Using Energy-Efficient or Alternative Fuel Vehicles

-- Energy and environmental conservation
-- Rideshare programs

With so many areas to address, it would be easy to feel a bit overwhelmed. Fay Feeney, author of the ASSE white paper, says the greening process is definitely not a one-person job—you should appoint a project coordinator and then assemble a team with representatives from management, engineering, marketing, public relations, and human resources. Once the team is in place, Feeney suggests you ask yourself:

1. Where do we start?
2. Where are our greatest opportunities?
3. What about planning and budgeting?

"The first step is to evaluate your current greening status by looking at key performance indicators: energy and water use, safety metrics, energy equipment efficiency, construction practices, hazardous chemical use, waste disposal practices, environmental and safety training, and legal and regulatory compliance," Feeney wrote. "After you assemble this information, you can educate your team and employees, communicate your objectives and actions, set priorities and goals, and establish timelines."

Among the areas you will want to address, according to Feeney's paper, are:

Housekeeping and Maintenance

Greening your housekeeping and maintenance programs is a good place to start and can be implemented with very little cost. Meet with your cleaning and maintenance crews as well as your product procurement team to discuss the possibility of replacing hazardous products currently used with more environmentally friendly ones.

HVAC and Operating Systems

Over time, thermostats, vents, and heating and cooling systems no longer operate within their design specifications. You know who they are. Have a few names in mind?

Here’s a bit of advice that will most likely surprise you: What's the quickest way to get one of these archenemies to like you? Answer: Get him to do you a small favor.

Let me explain.

It sounds counter-intuitive but it can be easily explained by what social psychologists call “Cognitive Dissonance Theory.” The theory maintains that we all try to maintain consistency in our attitudes and behaviors. When we do a person a favor (the behavior), we tend to like him more as a result (the attitude).

This phenomenon is also known as "The Ben Franklin Effect." Franklin wrote in his autobiography, "Enemies who do you one favor will want to do more." A political opponent in the Pennsylvania state legislature was annoying Franklin and he set out to win him over. Franklin asked his adversary if he could borrow a rare book from his library. According to Franklin, when they next met in the House, the adversary spoke to him for the first time "with great civility." He added that they eventually became great friends.

The Problem
All employees need cooperation from their co-workers in order to succeed at their jobs. Without respect, they won't receive the cooperation they need to be effective. Senior management can promote the importance of teamwork until they are blue in the face, but employees must respect one another if they are to work together effectively.

What to Do
Here is the Ben Franklin method that individual employees and managers can use to get their enemies to like them.

1. Identify Your Enemy
Think of the individuals who are preventing you from succeeding at your work. It could be a co-worker, subordinate, boss, employee from another part of the company, or even a customer.

I remember when I was talking with a person from England like 2 years ago I had to explain why we use the words and phrases we do. Anyone who has ever studied a language other than their native language has had to struggle with the impossibility of translating idiomatic phrases.

What is the language of your organization's culture? Many industries have a myriad of acronyms that are completely foreign to outsiders. When I worked in the offshore industry we had countless acronyms and one of our trainers made a project of having people in his classes add to her list of acronyms we used so he would understand the comments in class.

Is your language focused on your past or on your future? In order to effect change in an organization it is important to have a clear picture of where you are before you try to move in any direction from that. Part of that understanding comes from listening and looking around you to determine the language of your culture. What is important in your culture? You can tell what's important by what people hold onto. What is open to change and what must remain constant?

As you begin to plan for changes, you may try to explain the new in terms of the old, but find that the two are not compatible. You must recognize that there may be limitations. Sometimes you have to rebuild your language or even invent new terms. As the saying goes, "Necessity is the mother of invention." We have all seen this in new product development.

However, what about language in terms of your leadership? Does it feel too "touchy/feely" to discuss methods of positive motivation? Does your culture support discussing ideas in an open forum without fear of reprisal or raised eyebrows? Can you have productive conflict where people hash out all sides of an issue honestly and respectfully? Are you willing to let go of control and instead facilitate others' success?

The word "change" can be a negative word in almost any culture. The world today is moving quickly and the only constant may be constant and more rapid change. Building a culture that can withstand this change means that we must have language that will accommodate the dialog of failure as well as the dialog of success. They go together to create new visions. The language must give people the means to embrace learning from the old while transitioning to the new and unknown. Listen to the way language plays out in your culture and you may find an opportunity to lead your organization to the future more effectively.

Remember when a martial-arts movie was a martial-arts movie, and stars like Bruce Lee and the young Jackie Chan didn’t need wires, digital effects or firearms to convey their prowess? Today, it seems, anyone seeking a pleasant summer afternoon of dramatic Asian-style fisticuffs must settle for the kind of urban-action/martial-arts hybrid that is “War.”

Though the movie’s final act offers an effective twist, its climactic showdown is all too brief and its denouement abrasively abrupt. Most regrettably, “War” squanders the considerable merits of its leads.

Like Mr. Chan, Mr. Li, a veteran of Hong Kong cinema, possesses true martial-arts skills. His character, however, is merely a cool gunman, firing automatics while barely breaking a sweat amid flurries of lightning editing.

Mr. Statham, who has shown a rugged, understated machismo and wry, winking humor in the “Transporter” films and the cartoonishly entertaining “Crank,” can’t match Mr. Li’s physical virtuosity, but he generates emotional heat. With his blend of menace and melancholy, his star remains ascendant.

Forget Mr. Chan and Chris Tucker: this pair really could have been the kung-fu commandos of the summer. Oh well. There’s always next year.
