The Lowdown

Greek DJ and producer Sek is back on Lost My Dog with another four track EP, following his January release ‘These Dayz’. His latest ‘Fergasm EP’ showcases what an accomplished music maker Dimitris Kesses truly is – it’s a record that has everything from deep, driving grooves that wear their influences on their sleeves, through to twisted, skittering bubblers. As on previous tracks, the snapping, techno-inspired percussion helps bring energy and additional punch to Sek’s work.

The “well rounded EP” is a cliché trotted out all too often, and in the world of digital cherry-picking it may be less relevant than ever, but we’re going to stick our necks out on this one and put it on a pedestal as four tracks that all offer something a little different while working together jolly well. Indeed, choosing just these four tracks from a raft of superb productions proposed by Sek was a tough call, and certainly means there’ll be more from him on LMD.

Sek first impressed us here at Lost My Dog with outings on Off Recordings and Kommunity. An initial track on our ‘Sonar Musica 2012’ release as well as his four tracker ‘These Dayz’ cemented our fondness of the Athens based producer and multi-instrument who describes his music as “a blend of deep and tech house, always with a raw and abstract sensation/perspective, the dominant ingredients of my life.”

Away from music, Sek’s email etiquette and politeness is unsurpassed according to Strakes, and after a coffee in Athens with Pete Dafeet, the LMD co-founder heaped the highest praise possible on him, “he’s a good lad.”

Miami Ice joins Strakes on Episode 52 of the Dogcast. With releases out on labels including Beef Records, Endemic Digital and Lost My Dog (Pretty Criminals & Miami Ice – Feel The Crowd), German producer Markus Greulich’s stock is definitely on the rise. He will soon appear on Lost My Dog again as part of a collaboration with Pete Dafeet and Sara Brito (included in his guest mix). The Lowdown

Dale Howard launches a new mix series, ‘Prime Cuts’. The concept for the series is simple, with Lost My Dog artists selecting their favourite tracks from the label’s extensive catalogue, and throwing in a couple of their own new productions for good measure. Two brand new cuts from Dale – ‘Make It Count’ and ‘Focus’ – sit alongside tracks and remixes by LMD artists including Milton Jackson, Giom, Huxley, Pete Dafeet, Dominic Martin and Sek.

Dale’s hour-long mix focuses on tracks that nod towards retro house sounds, with plenty of garage flavours. It represents a slice of the LMD catalogue that also matches Dale’s personal style as a DJ and producer.

Over the past two years Dale has rapidly risen through the deep house ranks hitting the top of the sales charts for labels including Neurotraxx Deluxe, Noir, Morris Audio Off Recordings and Fear Of Flying. To date he has released two EPs for Lost My Dog – Merrt and Inner City EP – the first of which was remixed by Ian Pooley.

A Friday treat for you, in the shape of this new Dale Howard guest mix for Phuture Labs to celebrate Dale’s Prime Cuts compilation which is – of course – out now on Lost My Dog. Enjoy!
