I survived another surgery..

Hey all, I’m back. Back inside the pen, that is…

I had another surgery on Monday. TPLO. I don’t wanna talk about it. Nope. Mom had nightmares all night long. But Doc said it’d gone well. ( he said that last time too..) I cried all the way home. Mom cried with me. She thought I was in pain. But as soon as we got home I stopped crying.

They put splint this time, as a precaution. Next week they’re gonna change it to soft bandage. It’s really cumbersome to walk on it so it helps keep me off my feet, which is good. But mom’s also worried it puts more pressure on the other leg when I go out to pee.

Well, the worst part is over. Now I have a long journey ahead of recuperation and rehabilitation. I know the bunnies are waiting for me. And I look forward to going back to Dog Beach next summer.

Another surgery?!?!?!?

I got a bad news. I need another surgery. I can’t believe this is happening…

We went for post surgery checkup on Monday. Dog said the bone popped. The bone?!?! My bone?!?! How did this happen? When did this happen? We thought I was healing nicely. Mom was worried about suture band breaking off but the bone? The bone?? Doc said it was extremely rare. Unheard of.

Mom knew Lateral Suture Technique was usually for small dogs but he was so confident… When did this happen? Right after the surgery? During checkup?

The thing is I went back right after surgery because it was red. They said it was ok. And then the week after the surgery I went back again because I developed seroma. They said warm compress 3~4 times a day. So we did and it went away. We followed all orders and I was confined. Mom was watching me 24 hours a day.

Doc said we don’t have to worry about the cost of next surgery. Gee I really hope so. My humans are starving. We’re in debt.

Another surgery… Dog help me…*sobs*

Mom’s depressed. She’s mad, sad, worried, going a little paranoid. How she wishes it was her, instead of me…

So, another surgery next week. Doc’s gonna do either another suture or TPLO this time.

Confined… whiiiiiine

Convalescing.. recuperating.. whatever.. I am confined! This is so not happening..

On the day of my surgery the surgeon doctor did something while I slept. When I woke up I found I was NOT home. I cried and cried and cried and cried. All night long. Mom wanted to come down so bad but she didn’t in the end because she’d have to leave eventually and it’d be harder for both of us. But she came to see me early next morning. I was still crying. I was so happy to see her. I peed a lot. I saw a rabbit too. I tried to chase it. She said no. She gave me some food. I drank gallons of water and wanted more. They said no. She left. I cried.

5 hours later they called mom and said I was ready to go home. I came home. HOME!!! Wait. What is this? I have to be confined? Inside this play pen thingy? When did mom get this? This sucks..

Mom had to be inside the pen with me for a while. Good thing she’s small. I moved to the bathroom at night so I could see mom in bed. I still cried and cried.

So she’s camping out in the living room these days. She sleeps right by my prison. I mean my pen.

The one silver lining out of the dismal situation is food. She’s been cooking all my favorite food. *drools*

Surgery?

Wish me luck. Mom says I’m having a surgery on my knee tomorrow.

WHAT???

Last Moday I went to the vet for titer, for my valley fever. Doc found something on my right rear leg. Some soft spot around the joint and a bony protrusion thingy. She said ‘let’s see what the blood work says. It might be valley fever related'. So we waited. Mom ate her nails. Result came back on Wednesday. Valley fever level is same, not better, not worse. So Monday we did X-ray. I was woozy.

We came home and waited. I slept. Mom ate more of her nails. Vet called. She thinks it’s all valley fever related. Ok. Then she said I needed ACL surgery on my left knee. 2 referrals. First one says TPLO surgery. But the other one says because of my kneecap (luxating patella) he thinks lateral suture technique is better for me. So he can fix both at once. Makes sense, huh?

Mom already ate half of her thumb. She won’t have any nails by the time I come home. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE we will sleep apart. Poor mom.

Valley Fever.

Last week mom noticed I was favoring my right rear leg. She could see a slight tremor too. So she made an appointment with our vet.

Monday we saw our vet. She gave me a shot that made me feel funny and took me away to X-ray room. Without mom! I was so scared I soiled my legs. The vet found no fracture. But there was some fuzzy stuff around the bones. Damn. Mom was hoping for simple fracture. Simple fracture would’ve been better. A lot better than other scary stuff. They sent my blood to the lab and we came home. And waited.

Mom couldn’t sleep well. Valley fever was one of her biggest worries ever since she read about it years ago.

Vet called yesterday. Positive. I have Valley Fever.

The treatment could take as long as a year but vet thinks I’ll be ok sooner than that.

I think mom’s heart actually stopped for a few seconds. She’s still in a bit of shock.

I feel fine.

from my life in the back yard, on a chain...

Three days ago was my tenth birthday and almost ten years ago

I was in that same kennel you rushed to today.

I was a darling little puppy that everyone wanted...

that got too big, too fast...and was sent to live on a chain in the backyard -

too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer,
barely a kind word spoken...

I begged for attention that never came,got tossed food most days,

begged for just a drink of water on too hot days,
my throat parched and hurting.

My dirty matted coat my only protection from the heat and cold, rain and snow
ALWAYS NEEDING
No one saw me then either.

Then I got too messy, my cries for attention too loud ...

I just got too damn old.
No one saw me, and they brought me here to die.

That kennel you rushed to had six puppies then...

They dropped me off and took one from there

to fill my spot on that rusty chain in the backyard,

And I wonder... who is worse off - me or him?

I still have so much love in my heart, so much to share...
Did you see me today?

For a brief moment you stopped, and I thought our eyes met.

Was the smell of helpless death too strong for you,
my pleas for help too loud?

My gotcha day :o)

Yep, today is my Gotcha Day.

8 years ago today mom & dad went to Petco to buy fish food. Noah’s Ark was holding adoption event there. When I saw mom I ran towards her, stepping on other puppies rather mercilessly. Her fate was sealed right there and then. We came home together and were inseparable ever since.

my favorite spot (Under the glove compartment) whenever we went for a ride.

No dog park today. So after the morning walk… See anything new? Yep! New harness from Mutt Gear. With seat belt loop & reflective trim. I like it!

..…I saw I got 3 new toys! (I do shake and tug and fetch with my squeakies but I don’t roll on them, like my cute friend Buttons. heheheh)

Then I read a birthday card from Raven, my girlfriend. (umm one of so many, I should say…..heh heh) She’s so sweet… So sweet… *sniiiiifff* what?!

She and her brothers also wished me happy birthday on their blog. Thank you Raven! Thank you Rio & Thor!

Mom made more chicken jerky last night. Woooohoooooo

But the sweetest present I got is from my friend Brew. That post rendered me speechless and made mom’s eyes wet……Thank you, Brew……

Ok….time to nom nom nom Arby’s sandwiches and BK burgers as promised… But I didn’t expect this! Bacon pizza! Just for me! *happy dance* 3 burgers & 3 sandwiches later…(I shared with my sister, of course) …..I moved on to the pizza. But I ate only 2 slices. Because, you know, I was full. *burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp*

By the way I got this incredibly pawsome news. the Anipal Times! I knew something was going on but I had no idea except it was top secret project. There was its launch pawty #atpawty on twitter yesterday. When I got there I found out my friend Henry aka Quadpawd was doing ‘Bloggy Reviews’ and wrote about my blog. Can you believe it? Mine was the first blog that was reviewed on the Anipal Times! Woohoooo! What an honor it is! It sure pays to have somebody who’s smart and talented for a friend, eh? Thanks, Henry!

I don’t normally do this, not because I’m lazy but …umm you know…

Missing mails

We had a problem with our mails. We don’t get too many so we didn’t notice at first. It dwindled since January and we had to pay late fees because some of the bills didn’t come. Mom told dad to go to post office and find out what was going on. Which he did. They said there’s no problem with our address or anything. Still we didn’t get all our mails. Some returned to the sender and others just disappeared. And we still get some so it was all very confusing. We lived here in the same address for almost 8 years and never had any problem with mails. Dad went to the post office again but nothing changed. Then finally mom snapped when she tracked the order for Pebbles’ gotcha day present. It said it had arrived to our local post office but deemed ‘undeliverable’ and forwarded. Forwarded to where? Mom got so mad she was shaking. I’ve never seen her so mad. She couldn’t sleep that night and first thing in the next morning they went to the post office. Long story short the mail carrier did all that. I hope they fire him. We got an apology letter from the postmaster so maybe we can get those late fees back...

And we went to the vet for our annual shots.

I lost a pound! Yes! And it found its way to Pebbles. heheheh

Pebbles’ gotcha day

Today is Pebbles’ gotcha day. 4 years ago today we went to AAWL (Arizona Animal Welfare League) and adopted her. They didn’t know her exact age but guessed around 10. She has hypothyroid and severe underbite. She lost 6 teeth at the shelter (Our vet pulled 3 more last year) She attacked me on her first day at home when she saw mom spoon-feeding me. We ignored each other for a while but eventually learned to coexist, as you can see here. heheheh

She doesn’t like toys. She’s scared of them so we think she never had toys before…

Mom made her favorite snack. Chicken jerky!

And we got double cheeseburgers.

She doesn’t do buns but I do if there’s cheese. heheh

But we definitely don’t do pickles.

Pebbles was full before she finished one. I can normally eat 3 burgers but mom stopped at 2…*sigh*

I think mom ordered something for her but I don’t know what. And she also used the gift card from pawpawty to order Grandma Lucy's treats from Baby Patches store Nip and Bones. Yay!!!

We went to the nearby park today. Remember we went there last year when they just opened it? I didn’t get to drive though *sigh*… c’mon mom it’s been more than a year since that unfortunate incident…

It has small dog park too and we met 2 gorgeous Goldens there. But they were boys. *another sigh*

When we got back home we found Valentine cards from Princess Gwenie in the mailbox! Sweet!

Pawpawty for animals in haiti

There was pawpawty last weekend and this month’s theme was Viva Wag Vegas Elvis pawpawty. To pay tribute to the King of Rock ‘n Roll. He would’ve been 75 if he lived…

So we got dressed up and attended the pawty.

And our pawpawty CDO Frugal dougal decided to help out the animals in Haiti so the pawpawty was helping The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). How cool is that?

And the fundraising target was set and of course exceeded :o)

I won 3 prizes. $20 voucher for BabyPatches’ store from MizzBassie and a personalized doggie bowl from Parrisreddog and treats from Luckydogtreatco! Woohoooooooo!

Personalized dog bowl! I feel special already! I’ve never had one! And of course I love luckydogtreats! As you can see here. heheheh

I think mom’s gonna use the voucher for Grandma Lucy’s treats. It’s been a while since we had them. Last time was, like, last summer? Too long a while! See how much I love them here and here!

Mom’s so happy because she’s been feeling sorry she couldn’t get us as much treats as before... Well I’m happy when mom’s happy :o) And I know she loves me more than anything in the whole world! *woof*

Dudefest! (Hank’s birthday pawty)

Last weekend I went to Dudefest. This time it was for Hank the doggy’s 10th birthday. It totally rocked!

And I got to taste MadLabM’s candied bacon martini. oooh yeahhhh…

oh and there was special guest appearance by da Shibbering Cheetos! BOL BOL

I also DJed for an hour late at night.

The next day there was a birthday cake cutting. And boy I was surprised. Cake jumpers! The bestest cake jumpers I’ve ever seen! (well I’ve never seen one before…heheh) It was absolutely hilarious! if you missed it, click on the link! Must see!

The pawty helped AC PAW, a local no-kill animal group that fosters and adopts pets in Hank the Doggy’s area. And of course the fund raising target was met and exceeded again :o)
