BE afraid; be very afraid - the demon awakening of the UK party scene has been summoned.

For if you go down in the woods at The Lizard, Cornwall, on Saturday, October 26, you'll be in for beastly surprise.

Following on from the unrivalled hedonistic success of the summer Masked Ball, the team is back with a Halloween bash to scare the pants off anyone brave enough to venture to the deep Cornish south.

The line up is still being finalised although we can reveal that Sister Bliss will be performing a Faithless set - alongside 40 of the best DJs/ bands in the South West. Surely enough sounds to shake rhythm from the bones of the most decrepit of corpses...

Keeping in with the Masked Ball tradition of high production values, the rave to the grave takes place over nine themed areas.

First up is Carni-hell, the unfair fairground where you won't need to scream if you wanna go faster. This is a complete fairground in the woods with a horror maze curated by Kernow Scare Attractions. Expect a belter helterskelter, a ghostrain, a spooky funhouse, a strongman striker, stalls (where you can win booze and candy floss), a coconut shy (where the coconuts are full of rum) and a palm reading experience.

There's the Barn Of Horror, complete with a mind-bending visual show, a Rave Yard complete with a crashed UFO, Death by Disco, Voodoo Swamp, Hell's Kitchen and The Cardinal Sin Village. The Chapel of Rest offers a respite from the madness offering an area of sofas and comfy chairs, complete with table service by naughty nuns and wicked vicars.

Each arena will have its own surprises and shocks in store, augmented by quality sound systems and amazing visuals.

The creepy party starts on Friday, October 25, with Slamboree Sound System, a silent disco and a screening of The Exorcist, in the woods.

Another new addition is a range of onsite accommodation, including newly constructed hobbit huts.

The lockable hobbit huts sleep two and have heating, furniture and mains power and form part of a hobbit village. A hobbit village with 24-hour security, hot showers and access to exclusive VIP areas. There are also bell tents and tipis for hire, also with heating and electric.

The Halloween Masked Ball takes place at Rosuick Camel Farm, Helston, The Lizard, Cornwall, and runs from Friday, October 25 (from 6pm to midnight) to Saturday, October 26 (6pm to 6am).

The Masked Ball is an independent festival production company that started with its first Masked Ball in 2007. It now runs three events a year and receives no sponsorship or public finance. Each year, The Masked Ball donates upwards of £5,000 to local charities and good causes.

THE misconception that airlines will compensate and repatriate travellers in the event of a medical emergency is leaving almost a quarter uncovered by travel insurance and at risk.

That risk is heightened if the traveller has a pre-existing medical condition. MedicalTravelCompared, the stand-alone travel insurance comparison site specifically for people with pre-existing conditions, is urging travellers to arrange travel insurance cover when they book their holiday rather than rely on EU legislation to pay for any medical treatment they may need - or a repatriation home.

The warning from MedicalTravelCompared follows fears expressed by the Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR UK) that European rules on flight delays and cancellations could do more harm than good and may threaten passenger welfare.

Regardless of the cause of a flight delay, EU261 legislation requires airlines to provide meals, accommodation and phone calls. Following feedback from the customer-care departments of airlines, BAR UK believes that the legislation is being misinterpreted by travellers who mistakenly believe airlines will pay up if things go wrong - and that includes any medical cover they may need.

Lauren Stovell, Business Development Manager for MedicalTravelCompared said: "The legislation is there to protect passengers but if it's being misunderstood as BAR UK fears, there is a real danger that travellers, particularly those with pre-existing medical conditions with a higher risk of ill-health abroad, are leaving themselves exposed to medical costs that can dwarf the holiday budget as a whole. EU 261 is no substitute for travel insurance cover.

"With premiums starting at just £8.81 a day for someone with blood pressure travelling to Spain, it really isn't worth the risk of travelling without insurance."

WITH its rich agricultural heritage and vast coastline, Suffolk's quality produce, artisan food producers, award-winning restaurants and picture-postcard landscapes makes the county a gastronomic hub and top destination for foodie breaks.

Why not time a visit around one of the UK's top food and drink festivals? Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival runs from now until October 13, 2013 and is the ideal way to get sampling some of the county's finest produce. Since its beginnings in 2007, it has cemented Suffolk's identity as a foodie hotspot, offering visitors a taste of the diversity and quality of its produce. The festival weekend at Snape Maltings attracts well-known chefs Daniel Clifford, Valentine Warner and Galton Blackiston to demonstrate their skills and share their recipes.

To continue the culinary inspiration, try the The White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh. Head Chef Jason Shaw is passionate about creating food which reflects the great seasonal produce so readily available from both the coast and the countryside. Fish served in the restaurant is bought at fish shacks opposite the hotel, where fishermen sell their catch straight from the sea. Also as part of the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival on 4th October it will be holding a Local Beer Dinner with three specially created courses each matched perfectly with a different Adnams beer.

In addition look out for the award-winning Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop, which is regarded as one of the best in the country. Fish is cooked while you wait and is best enjoyed sat on the seawall watching the waves breaking over the pebbles.

Just a short hop down the coast is Orford; a foodie shopping village that boasts an oysterage, butcher, smokehouse and fish shed. When in town don't miss a visit to the Pump Street Bakery featuring award-winning bread to take away or served up with in their cafe. They are also now turning their hand to producing cocoa-rich delicacies and have a special chocolate room dedicated to melt-in-the-mouth-chocolate.

A famous and most established restaurant in Orford is The Butley Orford Oysterage, which is renowned for the quality of its seafood. Sample a dozen fresh oysters straight from the seabed or a local lobster washed down with some of their amazing wines.

Good food is at the heart of The Crown and Castle in Orford as the co-proprietor and executive chef Ruth Watson is an awarding-winning food writer. Its restaurant The Trinity has two AA rosettes and is one of the main draws for many of The Crown and Castle's guests. At its heart is provenance and seasonal food, while the hotel itself offers airy and bright rooms.

The British Larder Suffolk is a little piece of foodie heaven created by two professional chefs, Madalene Bonvini-Hamel and Ross Pike, who are committed to using locally sourced produce with a passion for quality food. Starting out as a website for foodies, it is now a pub near Woodbridge which supports local producers. It gets its pork from Dingley Dell pigs just two miles down the road, Sutton Hoo chickens are reared five miles away and its High House Farm apples and Butley oysters travel less than ten miles to reach us. In short a real taste of Suffolk!

With a string of awards to its name, it's well worth seeking out Pea Porridge in the back streets of Bury St Edmunds. Describing its food as rustic bistro, the restaurant uses seasonal ingredients presented with minimal fuss. In the summer expect to see lobster and fresh fish, and game in the winter months. The restaurant also uses some more unusual ingredients too such as pig cheeks and bone marrow.

Looking to improve cooking skills or love foraging? Food Safari organises tailor-made food experiences for the serious foodie. Specialising in field to fork gastronomic adventures, they organise tours behind the scenes at local producers such as Blythburgh Pork and Pinney's of Orford. The more adventurous should try try one of its wild food workshops, foraging for ingredients in Rendlesham Forest and then cooking a feast with findings.

No foodie trip to Suffolk would be complete without a trip to Suffolk Food Hall near Ipswich. Originally created out of a desire amongst the local community to get access to the quality food produced and grown in the Suffolk region, the hall has a deli, fishmonger, artisan bakery, chocolatier and butcher. Browsing through all its foodie treats is likely to make even the most resistant visitor hungry, so why not stop for lunch at The Cookhouse restaurant with views over the beautiful river Orwell?

BRITONS' sleep is under severe attack as a new report out by Travelodge has revealed that over a quarter of Britons (27%) are getting less sleep now than they did a year ago.

Worryingly 65% of adults are getting on average just six hours and 27 minutes sleep per night (which is one hour and 33 minutes below the recommended daily quota of eight hours).

Sleeping (Photo credit: lifebeginsat50mm)

It has also become evident that Britain is fast becoming a nation that likes to just work, play and not rest. In addition to not getting enough sleep during the week, nearly half of adults (48%) claim they don't have time in their busy schedule for a weekend lie-in any more (so that they can catch up on lost sleep). Instead we are becoming a nation of Snoozesters - this is a new sleep trend which could actually be detrimental to our health - as it makes you feel more groggy than refreshed.

Four out of ten adults have reported that they set their wake up call earlier than required, so that they can hit the snooze button and make their body think it is having extra kipping time. On average snooze button sleepers are hitting their mobile phone snooze button twice every morning and gaining an additional 11 minutes of perceived extra shut eye.

One of the key reasons to why we are becoming a nation of Snoozesters, is due to the fact that seven out of ten (68%) Britons now use their mobile phone to wake them up every morning.

These findings have been revealed in Travelodge's annual sleep study which surveyed 2,000 British adults to investigate the nation's sleeping behaviour.

Stevie Williams, Edinburgh Sleep Centre, says: "Setting your alarm clock much earlier than you intend to get up and continually pressing snooze actually makes you feel more groggy than refreshed after a night's sleep. Snoozing in this way can lead you to miss out on the vital REM sleep that occurs just before you wake up.

"Therefore, it is more beneficial to your health to use the weekend to catch up on any sleep debt you have accumulated during the week."

Other key findings revealed that Coventrians, Brightonians and Belfastians are the worst sleep deprived individuals across the country - as each of them are clocking even less sleep than the national average sleep figure of six hours and 27 minutes.

Other key findings revealed that Coventrians, Brightonians and Belfastians are the worst sleep deprived individuals across the country - as each of them are clocking even less sleep than the national average sleep figure of six hours and 27 minutes.
The sleep study also delved into the key reasons to why Britons are not getting their recommended sleep quota of eight hours sleep per night. Research revealed despite experts stating the UK is coming out of recession a third of adults are kept awake at night due to money worries. Trying to make ends meet with a tight household budget was the biggest concern especially in light of rising food and fuel bills.

The second biggest factor for keeping adults awake at night is stressing about family issues - which are actually fueled by a partner working long hours, financial strains and family politics.

Listed below are the top five reasons that are giving Britons sleepless nights:

1. Money worries (32%)
2. Family issues (25%)
3. Work stress (18%)
4. Job security worries (17%)
5. Unfinished household chores (16%)

ASIA specialist, Travel Indochina, has launched a new 'Vietnam Travel Writing Tour' in partnership with award-winning travel journalist Rob McFarland.

The tour operator's exclusive literary tour provides four days of inspiring travel writing tuition in Saigon, followed by eight days covering some of the most stimulating parts of Vietnam, to help budding writers develop their skills as they pen a travel story to encourage others to follow in their footsteps.

On this trip Travel Indochina balances time in the classroom with relaxed tours of the city and surrounds. The course is expertly led by British-born McFarland who shares his knowledge of good travel writing with classes packed with insider hints and tips, practical writing techniques and insights into the commercial realities of travel journalism, including advice on how to pitch stories. Throughout the course writers will receive detailed feedback on their writing so they can improve their skills under McFarland's guidance.

Upon completion of the sessions in Saigon, the small group of aspiring travel writers will put their newfound skills into practice as they head north, with guided touring through the riverside village of Hoi An, historic Hue and onto the capital of Hanoi and the turquoise waters of Halong Bay. The carefully-created itinerary provides a memorable holiday experience while inspiring some great story ideas to showcase writers' talent. On their return, participants will have the opportunity to submit a story to McFarland for personal feedback.

Among the range of special tour experiences available include an interactive private cooking class with Hoi An's culinary legend Ms Vy, at her newest endeavour, Market Cooking School. Ms Vy is famous for producing the region's best White Rose traditional dumplings. In addition, writers can meet with Jimmy Pham, founder of the Koto Foundation which provides hospitality training to some of Hanoi's poorest and most needy youth, following a delicious lunch in the city. These are wonderful opportunities to personally meet with two notable figures, ask questions and gain an insight into the work they do in Vietnam.

"This incredible country provides inspiration at every turn to help individuals learn the craft of good travel writing," comments McFarland. "Lessons take place in an interactive 'classroom' that includes the streets of Saigon, the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta, and will explore the culture, history and cuisine of this fascinating destination in Asia."

Manda Churchill, general manager for Travel Indochina, adds: "Learning directly from an award-winning travel journalist and experienced teacher such as Rob McFarland in a stimulating environment like Vietnam is a great way to develop and hone the skills of a travel writer. Our tour combines a wonderful holiday experience with invaluable advice on travel journalism, and I can't think of a more motivating way to learn how to turn travel experiences into travel stories."

Travel Indochina is operating four departures on its 12-day 'Vietnam Travel Writing Tour' in March 2014. The tours are ideally suited for aspiring professional travel writers or enthusiastic travellers who enjoy writing, and will be limited to a maximum of 16 participants plus four companions on each departure.

Tour prices start from £1,755 per person including 10 nights' three-to-four-star hotel accommodation, 1 night cruise accommodation, 4 day Saigon-based writing course with award-winning travel journalist Rob McFarland, 2 internal flights in Asia, all road transport in air-conditioned vehicles, sightseeing and entrance fees, guided touring with local English-speaking guides, return transfers and some meals. Travel Indochina can also arrange international flights to Vietnam at an additional cost.

With altitudes varying from 2,000 to 3,000 metres above sea level, the roads traversing Teide National Park provide the perfect challenge for cyclists and other athletes wanting to boost their performance in physically demanding environments. The island's mild year-round climate also contributes to the perfect environment for training.

Miguel Angel Santos, Chief Executive of the Tenerife Tourism Corporation, said: "Mount Teide is Spain's highest peak and undoubtedly provides a very tough training environment that brings out the very best in athletes. It can be no coincidence that the last two winners of what is considered the toughest race in sport prepared for it in this territory. We hope that the island will continue to attract both top athletes and other sports enthusiasts following their example."

As well as the most demanding cycle routes on Teide National Park, Tenerife offers a wide network of mountain biking tracks of varying difficulty for those who simply want to enjoy a holiday on two wheels. Visitors can enjoy exhilarating rides through amazing volcanic territories, lush valleys and pine tree forests, with the guarantee of mild, sunny weather all year round.

Tenerife is rapidly becoming a training mecca for sporting champions, attracted by the island's excellent facilities such as the renowned T3 Tenerife Top Training centre, its benign climate and proximity to the UK. Many top athletes, including Olympic medallist Alistair Brownlee, and some of the UK's Premier League football teams such as Everton or Newcastle have chosen the island for their training.

WE all look forward to time-out with friends and family, forgetting the day to day world even if just for a few days and a luxury treehouse just for 2, a super family holiday in a yurt or off-grid cottage might be just the ticket to that experience... Quality Unearthed certainly believe so!

Having spent a number of years living in unusual places and working on off-grid homes, Tim Rees, brainchild of Quality Unearthed spotted an increasing need to holiday in unique holiday properties such as eco-builds, tree houses and glamping abodes.

Quality Unearthed take all the learning on how to create holidays from its parent family company, Quality Cottages. They visit all the unique abodes personally and sometimes stay over to ensure the beds are comfy and warm... yes, it's a tough job!

Tim has a particular liking for tree houses (and is planning to build his own). He currently represents two amazing abodes in the trees with more in the pipeline.

The Bensfield Treehouse, only 1 hour from London, just outside Tunbridge Wells fulfills childhood fantasies like no other - a rope bridge to a haven all to oneself - this is not a treehouse complex but a world of complete privacy - the icing on top is a space to stay with a boutique hotel feel (A complimentary, organic and locally sourced breakfast is provided.)

'I am fascinated by tree houses and their interaction with their environment' says Tim Rees, owner of Quality Unearthed. 'I sat on the veranda in cosy sofa seats, listening to the birds tweeting and looking out onto the fields and forest with a cup of tea - perfect"

A mature oak tree ploughs right through the treehouse with an open plan, stylish room designed around it. Stay when the tree is sprouting leaves for that extra fairytale feeling.

The Acorn Treehouse, Devon is like a classic kids treehouse, but for grown ups. Set on its own in the heart of ancient woodland, it hovers 9 metres off the ground, offering complete peace and quiet - a true romantic bolt hole, replete with fairy lights at night.

" when you consider that no vehicles or machinery can get into the woods, you realise you are sleeping in an abode built with true craftsmanship" says Tim from Quality Unearthed.

No tree house holiday would be complete without a balcony and this one is rather special - surrounded by woodland with some evergreens, so no matter what the season, you will still be ensconced within a secretive yet light canopy. It's a great spot for lazy meals or relaxing with a book - literally amongst the branches and birds. And as night time falls, look up to starry skies above and listen out for the owls.

BRITAIN is the best place in Europe to visit for shopping, according to YouGov's latest EuroTrack survey, which tracks public opinion in the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

The findings come a day after official figures showed economic growth in Britain has doubled since the start of the year, and a report by YouGov and the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) found that consumer confidence in Britain is at its highest level since early 2010.

Asked to choose up to three European countries, and on average a third (32%) of respondents said the UK was the best place in Europe to visit for shopping, followed by Italy (20%) and France (20%).

France, Italy and Spain top choices for holidaymakers

The survey also asked the best places in Europe to visit for nice weather, with Spain (56%) coming out on top, followed by Greece (44%) and Italy (32%).

Italy is #1 for food, at 48%, followed by France (45%) and Spain (26%).

For 'good fun, socialising and parties', Spain (41%) is the preferred choice, followed by Greece (18%) and Italy (16%).

Italy (36%) is the best place in Europe for sightseeing, according to the EuroTrack survey, with France (33%) a close runner-up and the UK (25%) in third place.

Asked what the best place in Europe is to visit for learning a new language, and on average respondents chose Spain (35%) as their first choice, followed by the UK (28%) and France (27%).

Commenting on the EuroTrack findings, YouGov Director of Political and Social Research Joe Twyman said: "The fact that Europeans see the UK as the best place to visit for shopping could be another small bit of good economic news this week, which no doubt most Britons feel is long overdue. It also shows that Britain has a distinguishing factor advantage as a holiday destination, whereas Italy, France and Spain dominate in most other categories."

WITH Twitter counting more than 200 million active users and 400 million tweets per day worldwide, Allianz Global Assistance, international leader in assistance and travel insurance, has conducted a detailed review of how Twitter is being used and requests linked to travel to identify and measure characteristic behaviours of travelling Tweeters.

"Every year, Allianz Global Assistance provides medical assistance and travel insurance to millions of travellers across the globe, offering valuable support in the event of an emergency. But as the popularity of social media channels grows, so does the need to better understand its importance in supporting travellers and the travel industry as a whole," explains Lee Taylor, Chief Sales Officer of Allianz Global Assistance UK.

Image via CrunchBase

The research revealed that whilst general tweets for assistance appear to be relatively commonplace, emergency assistance requests are extremely rare. Requests concerning less serious travel problems such as visas, money, luggage or contacting an embassy were also rare. 7% of requests concern matters such as reimbursement for an airline ticket, and to a lesser degree, medical expenses.

The reality is that Twitter is mostly used to help organise a trip and to ask typical tourist advice. In fact 38% of Tweeters ask their network for recommendations regarding a destination, a place to visit, or an activity to do when they arrive at their destination.

26% use Twitter to help organise their travel plans (choosing a hotel, calculating travel costs, etc.)
Overall, one third of all tweets analysed are directed at tourism and travel professionals, for example airline companies, tour operators and hotels.

These tweets primarily ask for advice or for help to resolve a problem. Although Twitter is not yet a mainstream channel for communicating with professionals, it's becoming more and more of one every day.

On average, one third of the tweets that were analysed received at least one response, but the research was inconclusive as to whether or not all of these responses were satisfactory. However, analysis did report that 46% of tweets receive a response if they are sent to a particular person or company for example, @my_friend_Paul.
Only 20% use # (hashtags) to send a general tweet that can be identified by one or more key words (#HELPME; #PARIS or even #LOST).

"We will continue to analyse how social networking affects the different markets we work in - travel, automobile, health and home assistance - so that we can truly understand the issues and needs of those who embrace social media to support their daily life. With millions of active users on Twitter, Facebook and other emerging social network platforms, now is the time to explore how we can innovatively enhance the communication process both in terms of general advice and in the longer term, supporting a travel assistance or medical assistance scenario," concludes Lee Taylor.

BABY Showers have made their way across the pond and are fast becoming a popular tradition for expectant mothers in the UK.

Originally this kind of celebration was called wetting the baby's head and was celebrated after the birth of your first child. This was primarily an opportunity for the father to celebrate with friends over a few drinks.

However, this is no longer the case, and mothers now rule the roost with gaggles of their friends gathering around them to celebrate the imminent birth of their child. Gone are the days of high tea and quaint conversations, nowadays Baby Showers require an added panache and The Great John Street Hotel offers just that.

This luxury hotel, housed within a renovated school house, has launched three new retro baby shower packages for the 'Eclectic' mother to be:

Cocktail & 'Mummy-Mocktail' making & tasting baby shower:
Book your cocktail and canapé baby shower at Great John Street and let their in house mixoligists show you how to make your favourite classic cocktails with all the variations just to your taste. More importantly they will show you how an expecting mother can still enjoy the glamour of a refreshing cocktail without the alcohol in our 'Mummy-Mocktails' making and tasting master class.

The expectant mummy will be offered 4 exotic Mocktails, packed full of fresh fruit and essential vitamins and minerals for the baby (including calcium, fibre and folate) which are aptly named:
Ma-Tini
Ma-jito
Ma-Tai
Bump on the Beach
Friends can also opt for the Mocktails or enjoy the original alcoholic alternative made just the way you like it, all served with a chef's selection of canapés.

Price - £60 per person inclusive of Cocktail and 'Mummy Mocktail' making and tasting classes with canapés. Based on a minimum of 10 people

The Naked Chocolatiers Baby Shower:
Let the (almost) Naked Chocolatiers host your party with a unique 2 hour experience.
The Chocolatiers will show you how to make your very own chocolate truffles from a variety of flavours talking you trough the process from start to finish.
They will then stay to serve you Great John Street Hotel's decadent "Ladies Afternoon tea".
Tasteful and unforgettable

Price - £55 per person inclusive of afternoon tea and the Chocolate Masterclass. Based on a minimum of 10 people

The Knit & Knatter Baby Shower:
Knitting is shrugging off its granny image, and rising in the trend stakes, so join the bandwagon and start knitting an entire wardrobe for the new baby.

With your own private event space indulge with 'Ladies Afternoon Tea' complete with finger sandwiches, home made sweet canapés and warm fluffy scones accompanied by as much tea and coffee (de-caff available of course) as you need to fuel the gossip whilst enjoying a Knitting Masterclass and learning the intricate techniques involved.

Guests can then 'Knit and Knatter' away, making playsuits, jumpers and for the less experienced a simple scarf for the expectant mother's baby.

Price - £55 per person inclusive of The Ladies Afternoon Tea and the Knitting Masterclass. Based on a minimum of 10 people

www.eclectichotels.co.uk
Nightly rates at the Great John Street Hotel start from £200 based on a B&B basis
