September Goals

It has been a while since I have used this blog as an outlet and I find myself back here during a time of major transition for myself. Going forward, I'd like to use this space to define goals, share what is going on for me and what occupies my mind.

My goals for September are as follows:

Work out three times a week - I'll be following the 30 Days of Cardio Blast at half speed to improve my fitness and burn off some stress.
Eat healthier - I've signed up to Macrotracker to get an idea of what I'm really feeding myself and see where I can improve.
Meditate daily - This goal has been on my list for the longest time and I haven't been able to establish a proper routine yet.

I'll check in here shortly to give an update of how I'm getting on with my goals.

Booked a flight to Munich for late May - soo looking forward to it./ A sweet potato-carrot-clementine-ginger juice./ A kiwi-apple-ginger juice./ Apple and oat biscuits with lots of cinnamon.

Used the pulp to make my very first juice pulp muffins. They're in the oven right now, so let's hope they turn out well.

How to Overcome a Cold Naturally.

So, you are feeling a little under the weather and the flu and cold season has finally got to you? Trust me, I know exactly how you feel. I've been struggling with a cold since Tuesday and I thought I would share a couple of tips with you how best to overcome a cold and support your body through the process.

Echinacea

Echinacea is an effective immune stimulant and will help your body with warding off a cold. I take Echinacea supplements as well as Echinacea tea, now that I am feeling unwell.

Water & Tea

Lots and lots of water is so important when you're feeling unwell. It will help flush out toxins and it also helps with thinning any mucus (disgusting thought, but true). Warm water and herbal teas are best. Try to avoid caffeine.

Saline Water

If you have a sore throat, dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water and use the mixture to gargle. It is not entirely pleasant, but it really helps.

If you have a blocked nose, try either a saline nasal spray or a neti pot, so that you can flush your nose and moisten the tender skin in your nose.

Green Juice

To help your immune system in its fight against a cold, do drink green juices. They are an acquired taste but they will be of serious benefit.

Vitamin C

Increase your intake of vitamin C. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables and supplementing with vitamin C crystals that can be stirred into juice will both help your immune system.

Rest

Last but not least, rest is quite possibly the most important factor. If you don't need to go out, do stay at home and rest, especially while you have a high temperature.

Hope this tips help you getting through the cold and flu season.

Decluttering my life - one step at a time

While I have been been decluttering part of my environment due to the move ahead, other parts of my environment had yet been untouched.

So, I decided to take it one step further and cleaned out my Facebook friends list. I must have unfriended about 35 'friends' and while I felt a little bit apprehensive about it at first, I felt relieved after. Why should I be sharing what's currently going on in my life with people I went to school with but haven't spoken to since and even some that I didn't get along with particularly well back then? And why should I be feeling guilty about making the choice to unfriend them? What does 'friend' mean on Facebook anyways?

It was a bit tougher when it came to friendships that had meant a lot to me once but had deteriorated over time. But I decided that if I felt they were slightly toxic friendships to begin with, I let go of them.

Now, only people that I would be happy to bump into on the street make up my friends list and I feel relieved and somehow calmer knowing that I do really have the control to release anything unwanted and only take on my new journey what's welcome.

I've also spent a part of my weekend deleting old emails. I was stunned when I discovered that I had more than 13,000 emails in my inbox. Now, of course I didn't see them every time I logged into my email account but they were sitting in the archive and cluttering it up. When embarking on a new journey, making room for something new just becomes so important. So, I deleted about 11,000 emails and let go of the last couple of emails from ex-boyfriends I had unknowingly kept, emails from people I wasn't friends with anymore, emotionally charged emails and the works... and it feels good.

Hi all,

I'm back and while I won't make any promises on the regularity of postings I'll try and post once every week.

Right now, I feel I need this blog to get back on my intended path and carve out the life that I want to live. There are some pretty big changes ahead and I hope everything will go as smoothly as possible.

Snow, Laughter and Progress

There was a little bit of snow on the roofs and on the big lawn in front of the house this morning and for a moment it looked as if winter had returned.

I called my mum today and we had a really great chat. Lots of laughter and sharing of ideas and plans. Always good to share a laugh with someone.

Making progress on my plans for this week. It will be another jam-packed week but at least I can see the end of the tunnel now.
