Here is what the bride said about her special day: Jason and I got married in Virginia at Smith Mountain Lake, where I grew up – it was very important to me that our location was warm, personal and familiar. Due to my parents’ neighbor’s unparalleled generosity, we were able to have both the ceremony and reception right on the lake. Our wedding was simple, small, and very handmade due to the fact that I run a craft market and my husband (ee!) owns a design firm and a laser-engraving business. Some of our little bits included paper masks that I drew and he laser-cut, beautiful folded books by a dear friend, and two custom-made ‘greeters’ – a bear-bird and a bird-bear carved from a 100-year-old white oak – that Jason surprised me with three days before the wedding. Bears and birds are dear to us, so they appeared often throughout the day.

I wanted something organic and natural, but soft and romantic. We are starting this week off with a beautiful wedding that got our hearts pitter-pattering a little faster! Tessa and Marshall’s wedding was full of eye catching details! Here is what Sara Kristen Photography had to say about their day Because they had dated at college in Tennessee and it had been away from family and friends, when it came time to come up with the theme- they decided on “A Love Story” so they could take the opportunity to share their story with extended family and old friends that meant so much to them, but who might not have been able to get to know their significant other very well due to the distance. Tessa is an avid reader and loves vintage books which went along perfectly with the “Love Story” idea. It was important that little details throughout the event reflected parts of their story and who they were. Marshall loves the outdoors and the city where they fell in love, so it was quickly decided that they wanted to find a place near where they met, which could also serve as a halfway point for the two families to travel to. Family is important to the laid back couple and the thought behind everything was that it would be comfortable and intimate. A time for everyone they love to share the day with them.
