Last week I went on a little excursion with my fellow film photographer friends, Kurt and Jon. We were out in the area to finalize things with the venue for our styled photoshoot next week and decided a photo adventure was in order. After several wrong turns and one extremely bumpy road, we finally found a spot to park the car and walk around. Such a mysterious place that holds so many untold stories… It’s never a boring time out there, that’s for sure.

ROAD TRIPPIN’

We’re going on a summer road trip and we want to meet you along the way!

Mark and I are in need of a little break and we’re thinking ROAD TRIP! Sometime in June or July, we’ll be driving our way to San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. What would make the trip even more fun would be to do some shoots along the way! If you’re in San Francisco, Portland, or Seattle (or any neighboring towns) and would like to book a shoot with us, please email me at nina[at]loveandlemonade.com or use the contact form. And because we’ll already be in your area, there won’t be any traveling fees included in the shoot cost. AND because you’ll be giving us a perfect excuse to shoot in new locations, the shoots will be at a special rate.

We’re excited to be planning our road trip adventure and we hope to meet you along the way and capture some special moments with you! See you soon! ;)

(We’ll only be booking a hand full of shoots since we’d like to leave some time to enjoy the cities we’ll be visiting. All sessions are welcome – weddings, engagements, boudoir, maternity, family, seniors, headshots, etc. Shoots will be booked on a first come, first serve basis.)

MONDAY MUSINGS AND MUSIC

Happy Monday! Do anything exciting this weekend? We shot a really fun wedding on Saturday filled with laughter, music, and even a horse drawn carriage. The above photo is of the bride’s younger brother who was the “man of honor”. Pretty awesome.

Sunday was spent at home catching up with work and housework and spending time with the dogs. Mark and I also treated ourselves to much needed massages which felt soooo heavenly that I ended up falling asleep in the middle of it. We promptly decided massages will become part of our post wedding rituals from now on. Definitely helped with the soreness and kinks.

We brought the weekend to a close with my bro and his gf and our cousin Steve. Korean dinner was had and boba drinks were consumed…A nice, relaxing end to a fun-filled weekend.

My day is free of shoots and meetings today so I’ll be working and editing and (hopefully) crossing many things off my to-do list. Hope your Monday is going well thus far! XO

FRIDAY RANDOMNESS

• I woke up this morning rejoicing it’s Friday and then I realized that doesn’t mean anything to me. haha My weekends are usually non-existent or happen on a Monday.

• I don’t know about you but this week has been one of the craziest weeks ever. I’ve barely been home, I’ve barely spent time with Mark and my dogs, and I’ve barely slept. I’ve been running around all week and then staying up nights trying to get some work done and reply to emails and such. I’m counting the hours to Sunday when I actually have a day off.

• Adding to the craziness, my car battery died and I had to get it jumped, drop it off at the dealership, and wait around for it to be ready. Basically spent all morning taking care of it. But the nice part was that Mark and I were able to walk around the shop lined streets and actually have a nice breakfast together.

• I have an assistant!! She’s been wonderful and keeping me on my toes. I am so grateful to have her on our team and she’s already been a tremendous help. I’ll have to introduce you to her soon. :)

• A couple of my photographer friends and I took a trek to a lavender field on Wed. We’re actually holding a shootout/workshop there at the end of the month for about 30 film photographers only. We’re so excited about it – we got a great team working with us and some amazing talents attending and it’s just going to be beautiful. Can’t wait to share more about it.

• After our visit to the lavender field, we went to Salton Sea to do some personal shooting. IT FELT SO GOOD to take photos for myself. I can’t remember the last time I did that and that’s something I’ve been really unhappy about. I dropped off the rolls at Richard Photo Lab and will be getting them back next week. The anticipation is killing me! haha

• It’s another wedding weekend for us so I’ll be busy preparing for that this afternoon. I love shooting weddings….never gets old…

• I completely forgot about these photos in this post. It’s so funny how dog’s personalities are so unique. Miles will actually pose and sit still for the camera while Bruno will have nothing to do it. In fact, Bruno hates cameras and taking photos and run away from it. Anyway, these were taken a couple of months ago before an engagement session.

I love cuddling with Miles because I never really got to do it with Bruno. Bruno hates to cuddle and will get irritated if you get too close to him (so much for having a big fluffy dog). Miles is all about affection and cuddles. They are so different and opposite in every way. (Photo by Mark)

I LOVE this shot of Mark with Miles. I didn’t even pose Miles..he just knew to sit and face the camera.

For those who are long time readers of my blog, you know the Yuhan family well. They were one of my very first clients and I’ve been photographing them ever since. They recently came down to Los Angeles for a visit and naturally we had to do a family session. There’s nothing nicer than working with families over the years and watching the children grow and develop their own personalities. Especially considering I first met Eli when he was about 6 months old. And each shoot gets more and more fun since the children are able to take directions and want to add their own flair to the photos. Elise was more than happy to do some jumping shots and Eli just wanted to be silly. Definitely made for a fun session.

Yuhan family, it’s always a pleasure taking your photos and chronicling the growth of your family. Thank you for always wanting to work with me and for being such wonderful friends. Next time I hope to take your photos in your town. ;)

Since it’s Mother’s Day weekend I thought I’d share a recent maternity session I did. It’s always an honor to photograph another photographer and this was no exception. Michelle is also a wedding photographer and when I discovered she was pregnant we immediately made plans for a maternity shoot. I spent an afternoon with the glowing mother-to-be and her “babe” and it couldn’t have been a more fun session (despite a bee attack haha). I’m so excited for them and can’t wait to meet baby Nolan, who you know is going to be heartbreaker. Congratulations again, Michelle and Darri…I’m really happy for you and your growing family! XO

Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers and mothers-to-be…you really help make the world an awesome place by sacrificing all that you do. Hope you have a lovely weekend celebrating!

Love and music…a perfect combination, if I do say so myself. ;) Lucy and Patrick’s engagement session perfectly fused both their personalities and interests. Patrick is a music buff who also dj’s and Lucy is one of the cutest girliest girls with a love for dandelions. These two are tying the knot next weekend and without a doubt it’s going to a fun-filled, love-filled celebration. And they deserve every bit of it.

(Special thanks to CD Trader in Tarzana for letting us shoot in their store. Very, very cool place to scavenge for vinyls.)

It was a real treat to shoot my cousin Dennis’s engagement session. I remember our adventures in Korea and Philly (where he’s originally from) when we were a lot younger – some of the adventures may or may not have included wearing vacuums and pretending to be Ghostbusters. And now he’s all grown up and getting married this weekend to Eugenia and we couldn’t be happier to have her in our family. Maybe their kids will run around playing Ghostbusters, too. I can’t wait to see that day…

Congratulations, Dennis and Eugenia! See you Saturday! ;)
