The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner is bringing out the chart-topping grifters. Trump loyalist Nicki Minaj is set to join the President at the event tomorrow. Tonight, Nelly is expected to perform at the Executive Branch, an exclusive club owned by Donald Trump Jr. in D.C.’s Georgetown neighborhood. 

The Event Known as “Nerd Prom”

The WHCA Dinner is a high-profile yearly gathering of journalists who cover the White House and the elected officials who work in and around the White House. The Dinner is also attended by countless other elected officials and politicos. Every single U.S. president has attended at least one WHCA Dinner, except for Trump. 

A tradition since 1921, Trump’s refusal to attend the event he says is due to the “tension” between his office and the press.  This year’s Dinner will be his first, putting him in the same room with countless reporters he so often attacks and belittles. 

Minaj’s and Nelly’s MAGA Obsession

Minaj’s attendance at the event is not abnormal as a public figure, or given her politics. 

Celebrities and special guests are typical. In 2009, during President Obama’s second term, guests including Ludacris, Chris Tucker, Alicia Keys, and Ashton Kutcher attended the WHCA Dinner. Minaj’s close alignment with Trump’s conservative policies has made this attendance less of a surprise and more of a moment for another eyeroll. Over the last year alone, Minaj has spoken at the United Nations at Trump’s request, spoken at a Turning Point USA gathering with far-right personality Erika Kirk, and labeled herself as Trump’s “number one fan.”

This is also not the first MAGA moment for Nelly. 

The Grammy-winning artist also performed at Trump’s inauguration ball last year. Nelly has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s time in office. The artist has claimed that previous performances were not political, but rather done out of respect for the Office of the President. 

The Real Cost of Siding with Trump

Both Nelly and Minaj have continued to stand behind Trump, while his administration has inflicted significant harm on Black people in America. Trump’s attacks on Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, food assistance, public education, his erasure of historical Black landmarks, and his prolonged war on DEI have continued to be part of his legacy of dehumanizing Black Americans.

The 2026 WHCA Dinner will be hosted on April 25 at the Washington Hilton.

In a recent interview with far-right political commentator Tomi Lahren, MAGA media personality Caitlyn Jenner complained about Trump’s anti-trans passport policy. 

“What do I do? This is a safety factor. I can’t travel internationally anymore. I can’t use my passport,” Jenner said during the podcast interview.

With the Supreme Court’s endorsement, the Trump administration restricted passport gender markers to only reflect the individual’s sex at birth, also limiting the gender marker options to just male or female. 

Jenner’s MAGA Obsession

Jenner publicly came out as transgender in 2015, sharing her journey with a reality series. Since, the former Olympian has doubled down on her support of conservative policies and politicians aimed at hurting trans and gender-expansive people. 

Jenner has specifically loudly cheered on President Trump’s political campaigns and elected leadership. In a post on X referencing President Trump and Elon Musk, Jenner wrote, “These two men will single-handedly save western civilization, and that starts with a strong United States of America. I am here and at your service and forever indebted to your sacrifice for this country.”

Jenner claimed to make a special appeal to the President on how to navigate the passport policy. “I don’t blame President Trump. I love him,” Jenner told Lahren. 

A Glimpse of Reality 

Jenner’s concerns reflect issues faced by trans people across the country regarding federal documentation. There are nearly three million trans adults in the United States who may have difficulty obtaining federal identification that aligns with their identity. At the state level, Kansas has revoked all the IDs and birth certificates of trans people, and other states are considering similar actions. 

These decisions from the White House make it impossible for trans people and gender-expansive people to travel internationally. These similar decisions in states make it impossible for people to vote, purchase alcohol, and legally identify themselves to law enforcement and federal agencies. These are attacks on identity, belonging, and personal safety. 

As the 2026 midterms get closer, a lack of identifying documents will lead to annexing trans and queer voices from participating in an election that will be crucial for LGBTQIA+ rights. There are currently 519 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills at some step in the legislative process across the country. The threats are real, and communities’ ability to show up at the polls in November will have a real impact on abating these threats.

While Jenner’s complaints are superficial, and her solutions are misguided, they speak to an ounce of the struggle felt by people across the country every day under the administration’s war on trans bodies.

LGBTQIA+ local news is crucial in ensuring that stories about queer liberation are not left untold. Journalism remains under significant strain, with layoffs and closures affecting thousands of reporters annually. The reporters who tell queer stories face even more obstacles, as the communities they cover remain under attack from lawmakers, hate groups, and organized campaigns. 

That is why LGBTQIA+ news based in the communities they cover is so necessary. Tell queer stories where the queer stories happen. These are the outlets leading that charge, creating roots of queer storytelling that shine light on progress and expose anti-LGBTQIA+ policies and people. 

Pride Source

Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and founded in 1955, Pride Source covers regional stories across Michigan as well as national coverage of LGBTQIA+ issues. Their print paper, “Between The Lines,” is the largest and longest-running LGBTQIA+ publication in the state. 

The Buckeye Flame

Launched in 2020, The Buckeye Flame covers everything LGBTQIA+ in Ohio. The award-winning nonprofit outlet has quickly expanded to tell queer stories across Ohio, including a weekly podcast titled “This News Is So Gay,” featuring LGBTQIA+ journalists and media experts. 

The Washington Blade

Founded in 1969, the Washington Blade covers local queer news in the DC area as well as national coverage of politics, pop culture, and more. In 2013, the outlet became the first LGBTQIA+ outlet to be admitted to the White House press pool rotation. 

The Los Angeles Blade

Launched in 2017 as a partner to The Washington Blade, the Los Angeles paper has quickly become a cornerstone of community reporting. The outlet is Los Angeles’ only LGBTQIA+ bi-weekly paper and the City’s largest and most frequently distributed media, both in print and online.

Philadelphia Gay News

First published in 1976, the Philadelphia Gay News emerged out of a desire to be one of the few outlets covering the AIDS crisis intentionally and ethically. The outlet covers queer stories across southeastern Pennsylvania as well as national LGBTQIA+ stories. 

Windy City Times

Serving the Chicago area since 1985, the Windy City Times has covered local queer stories and national news and focused on community development as a key pillar of its work. They have organized events, including the Gay Games VII in 2006, the 2013 March on Springfield for Marriage Equality, the 2014 Homeless LGBT Youth Summit, and many more. 

Dallas Voice

Running since 1984, the Dallas Voice is the first paper to serve the Texas LGBTIA+ community. The outlet also produces “OUT North Texas,” a yearly visitors’ guide for queer people coming to North Texas. 

Queer Kentucky

Kentucky’s only LGBTQIA+ newsroom, Queer Kentucky, began operations in 2017 to fill the gaps of coverage for queer stories in the Bluegrass state. The non-profit newsroom works to “enhance queer culture and health” through their storytelling.

The Bay Area Reporter

Started in 1971, the Bay Area Reporter has been serving the San Francisco area queer communities with coverage of local politics, culture, community events, and so much more. Their political coverage began with the legendary Harvey Milk as their first political columnist.

Dave Chappelle now blames Republicans for the politicization of his anti-trans jokes, doubling down on his transphobic standup routine. 

During a recent interview, the comedian addressed the ongoing backlash surrounding his jokes about transgender people, while making it clear he does not believe his material should be aligned with conservative political agendas. Specifically, Chappelle took issue with how members of the Republican Party have used rhetoric similar to his jokes in real-world politics.

Chappelle’s Diluted Defense of Anti-trans Jokes

According to Chappelle, there’s a major difference between what happens on stage and what happens on the campaign trail.

He said he “resented” the way Republicans leaned into anti-trans messaging, describing it as a “weaponized version” of his comedy rather than an extension of it. 

One example he highlighted during the interview involved infamously transphobic Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert, who previously posted a photo with Chappelle alongside a caption promoting the idea that there are only two genders. Chappelle said he was caught off guard by the situation, explaining that he didn’t intend to participate in any political messaging. 

Chappelle insists his jokes are being misunderstood; critics argue that intent doesn’t erase impact.

Preston Mitchum, a Black queer attorney, advocate, and activist, posted a response on Instagram that underlines the true impact of Chappelle’s rhetoric. 

“Holding Chappelle accountable and addressing harm caused is not about ‘cancel culture.’ It is not about respecting satire, and it is not about sensitivity,” writes Mitchum. “This is about who we are and who we want to become. This is about how much we care about ending suicide among LGBTQ youth. This is about understanding that comedians, like everyone else, should evolve beyond their tired jokes that could undoubtedly contribute to hate crimes and violence.”

Chappelle’s Comedy Has Always Relied on Transphobia

The comedian has faced sustained backlash since his 2021 Netflix special The Closer, which included jokes about trans women and their genitalia and defended J.K. Rowling’s transphobic reputation. The controversy sparked protests, internal pushback from Netflix employees, and broader conversations about the responsibility comedians have when discussing marginalized communities. 

Despite that, Chappelle has remained firm in his stance. In his latest comments, he dismissed the idea that his work contributes to harm and pushed back against media coverage, suggesting it has exaggerated the controversy for attention.

He also suggested that criticism from those who haven’t attended his live shows lacks full context, arguing that comedy is often experienced differently in person than through headlines or clips.

Any sort of humor where queer and trans people are the punchline contributes to larger narratives that hurt communities who are already at the margins. The number of trans people murdered annually has nearly doubled in recent years. Trans people face higher risks of intimate partner violence, property crime, and sexual assault. Two-thirds of LGBTQIA+ kids don’t feel safe at school. These people don’t need to be in a standup routine. 

Chappelle pointing the finger at the GOP does not diminish the years of content he has created that puts queer and trans people in danger. Whether he claims to create satire, something purely comedic, or something apolitical, the only reality that matters is that LGBTQIA+ people have never been less safe.

There are so many more things in the world to laugh at; let the punchline not be the people who are already getting punched down on.

The sudden cancellation of London’s Wireless Festival has been attributed to the headliner, Kanye West, and his history of hate speech, specifically directed at Jewish people. The music festival was set for July of this year and was to be hosted in London’s Finsbury Park. 

The Consequences for Kanye being Kanye

Organizers of Wireless Festival took a major gamble by booking West as the headliner for all three nights. West’s headlining announcement triggered immediate backlash from fans, sponsors, and government officials. 

Soon after the announcement, the U.K. government denied West entry, citing concerns about West’s previous use of hate speech. Without its central performer—and amid mounting sponsor withdrawals—the festival had little choice but to cancel entirely. They released the following statement this week: 

“The Home Office has withdrawn Ye’s ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom. As a result, the Wireless festival is cancelled and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders.”

Within days of West’s announcement as headliner, some of the festival’s most substantial sponsors backed out. Funders, including Pepsi, Diageo, Rockstar, and PayPal, all withdrew support for the event. 

Kanye’s Pattern of Hate

While antisemitic remarks played a central role in the U.K.’s decision, they are part of a broader and longer pattern of inflammatory rhetoric that has repeatedly made West’s platform more volatile.

West has, at various points, made statements that were harmful or offensive across multiple groups. Here are just a few:

• Comparing himself to Hitler (2011): While performing at England’s Big Chill Festival, West likened himself to Hitler.
• Comments on slavery (2018): West suggested that slavery “sounds like a choice,” a remark that drew backlash for minimizing the brutality of centuries of enslavement.
• “White Lives Matter” controversy (2022): He promoted clothing featuring the slogan, widely criticized as dismissive of the Black Lives Matter movement.
• Harassment and misogynistic behavior: West has been accused of targeting women publicly, including journalists and former partners, with language described as demeaning or abusive.
• A full list of offenses is difficult to document, as a result of the sheer volume of controversies.

These incidents, taken together, have shaped a public image that should send a clear message to organizers about the consequences of booking West. Less than a year ago, West released a song titled “Heil Hitler.” These are not imaginary or outdated concerns; these are real threats. 

The cancellation of Wireless Festival may signal a shift in how the entertainment industry evaluates risk. Booking a controversial artist is no longer just a branding decision, it can determine whether an event happens at all.

HIV prevention in immigrant and refugee communities requires a nuanced understanding of the structural, cultural, and technological barriers that shape access to care. While biomedical tools such as PrEP and routine HIV testing have significantly reduced transmission rates in many populations, these benefits are not equally distributed. For many immigrants and refugees, legal status, language differences, and fear of institutions create persistent gaps in prevention and treatment.
