Hi Everyone,
Miss B and I have decided that we are going to create our own blogs. Love Fox Vintage will still be our online store which will be full of goodies after the New Year. I have moved my blog here tod vixen. I am extremely excited about my new personal space on the web. The name is a spin off of Love Fox. Tod being a male fox and vixen being a female fox. It really represents my personality. Please stop by sometime next week and check it out. I hope you all like it.
As you all know Miss b is having a little fox very soon. She has decided to take some time off so she can focus on being a mommy. She will let you know if and when she starts her own blog. The Cream Color Boots...

At Thanksgiving dinner my dad and his girlfriend gave me a gift card to Nordstrom. I have been wanting this pair of Steve Maddens for quit awhile now. I have almost every color of boots you could image except for this lovely cream color. Needless to say I had to wear them to work the first day back. Lucky for me I found this polka dot dress last week while I was at a thrift store. The weather has been in the seventy, but since I had to dress for work the leggings were a must. If I didn't have a dress code I would of wore thigh high stockings to give the outfit more of an edge. I can't wait to see what other outfits I can mix and match with these boots.

Etsy things I must have this week. I am super into anything with leather these days. I don't mind spending the extra money if it last forever. I found these comfy fox pants that are perfect for after Thanksgiving dinner. I had my first Thanksgiving dinner last night with the roommates. The food was amazing and I drank just a little to much wine. Can wait till tomorrow when I get to spend the day with my family.

Styling My Thrift Store Finds...

This week I have wore two of my thrift store finds. Since the store closed I had to find a day job. My day job requires I wear casual/ business attire to work. I hate this. I definitely got used to being my own boss. As I have said before I dress by how I am feeling. When I have to dress the way someone else tells me to I can become easily upset. I can't show my tattoo's, breast or skin for that matter. Really? You can image how difficult this is since I usually wear whatever the fuck I want. I can take at least a half an hour every night to decide what I am going to wear. It's probably the worse part of my day. I am forced to be placed in this box and I have always been an outsider. Any how I still try and look stylish. Both of these outfits were for work. The last one had a cute blazer over it, but I took it off as soon as I got home. Anyone else have this same problem?

I most definitely had to wear another tang top under my blouse on the first outfit.

And I most definitely didn't wear my hair like that in the second outfit.

Hopefully one day soon I will be able to wear whatever I want again.

This week Love Fox Vintage will be at our local flea market to sell off all the dead stock from the store front. Once we get rid of the left over items we are planning on rebuilding our brand. Love Fox Vintage will only be sold online. That means photo shoots, tons of shopping and models. Styling for photo shoots is my favorite part of the job. I have wanted to be a stylist for as long as I can remember, so I am thrilled the store will only be online. This way I will have tons of experience for any jobs I may hold in the future. In light of our flea market trip this week Miss B and I will be sharing out thrift store finds, tips and outfit post with you. In you live in the area and don't work on Wednesday you should come visit us. Look at all my foxie finds this week.

Surrounded to Survive

I surround myself with beautiful things all day long. Artwork, color, texture, small collections, pieces of nature found on a walk, old books...because life is filled with so much splendor, why hide it? It may seem trivial to other people, but art is powerful & one of the purest forms of communication. And, surrounding myself with pretty images that speak to me is integral to my daily inner peace and survival. Our house is filled with inspirational images and pieces of art, big & small that we have collected throughout the years. We are lucky to have several very artistic and talented friends who make art and we love to pick up artwork on our travels as reminders of the awesome places we have been. A house without color and art is no house for me, no matter how hard I have tried to be a minimalist who simplifies her surroundings, I just can't do it. It's not in me, it's not who I am. This is who I am:

Scraps of fabric and driftwood become colorful art

A tiny corner of my home, filled with color and snippets of beautiful things

A "museum" wall worthy of some of our favorite pieces of art from all over-there's band screen printed patches, graffiti art, our wedding invitation, thrift store art, child art and photographs (art is truly every where!)

One of my all time favorite pieces of artwork, done in High School by my nephew. After seeing his art & devouring zines & art books with him, I fell in love with street art.

This is one of my black & white photographs from my days spent in the college darkroom. It's Toby's favorite, and therefore is up on the wall. He loves me.

Toby is very resourceful and he found this piece in the trash behind his work-wow! It reminds him of the central coast, where we live, so we like it.

My great uncle is a well known Santa Barbara area artist & this is one of his old paintings from his days as an art teacher. It's been in my Nana's home for a long time & it was one of her favorite pieces. I'm lucky to own it now and it has grown on me-I love those trees & I feel close to her when I look at it.

I just happen to have this painting with the most inspiring colors in my backyard. I have been wanting to do an outfit post that involved the art work for a while now. This piece of art work was actually what inspired my post from yesterday. The colors are so dreamy together. I found this dress a few weeks back. It reminds me of a dress American Apparel would be selling, but instead of paying $68.00 I paid $6.00. I love finding deals like that. This dress is completely modern yet it's vintage.

This week we are inspired by art. I personally have fallen in love with Charmaine Olivia. Her artwork is completely breath taking. Not only does she do an amazing job representing women, but she draws foxes in a lot of her pieces. You all know miss B and I love those little creators. This first piece of artwork is hers. I think I fell in love with it because of her haircut. I where my hair like this, but then the stillness of her body attracted me. The movement of her hair and the colors that move behind her give the painting a feeling of dreaming even though it is a self portrait. I want this piece in my collection. Here are a few other pieces that have inspired me this week.

My outfit post for this week centers all around the jewelry. It's a good thing too because putting together outfits becomes more and more challenging as pregnancy moves forward. But adding fun jewelry to a basic outfit adds shine and ease. Layering chains adds interest to a black or white tee. And a statement jewelry piece is always right with a simple black or navy dress.
I wore a simple striped tee, denim jeans, red sandals, and a black 60s vest-a comfortable outfit to run errands in. I added some funky and fun necklaces to show how some baubles can add a little pow to any 'ol outfit!

The blue beads in this statement necklace play off the stripes nicely-the copper and red add some fun color.

Wearing this big 60s necklace is all you need...pairs perfectly with the little black 60s vest.

A few of my favorite chains layered together (these are my go-to necklaces when I'm in a rush). Layer chains in similar patinas and textures, like golds, silvers and beads. Vary the lengths to show them off. The more the merrier! I couldn't help myself-I had to wear a set of bangles with gold touches too. Now, this outfit is a little more "Benicia" with all these layered necklaces...I'm ready for the day!

It may be no surprise to most people who know me, but I love to accessorize. And, I totally believe more is better! That's probably why my vintage jewelry collection is so darn big (to be fair, I have been collecting since I was in high school). I love finding unique pieces-pieces that other people may find weird or even ugly. I like things that I wear to have character. And, I am so sentimental, that lots of my favorite pieces of jewelry belonged to very special family members, so each time I wear it I remember them. It would probably take me two posts to show you all of my most treasured jewelry, so I choose a select few. I have a thing for weird earrings & used to own a pair of jumbo jets! I still have my skateboard, gun, Batman, jacks and Dick Tracy earrings.
Wearing jewelry doesn't have to be expensive (most of mine came from thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales and family heirlooms) and layering up the jewels can add interest to any outfit! In fact, pile those rings and bangles on-don't be shy! I say, where as much or as little as you like (when I was in high school, I used to wear piles of bracelets and bangles, a la Cyndi Lauper...eventually the private school I went to made a new rule in my honor: no more that 4 bracelets on each wrist-oops!)

These are a few of my "silver" pieces that I love-the silver coin necklace in the back belonged to my great Aunt Consuela, who traveled all over & had the most amazing jewelry. The buffalo earrings are a newer addition that someone made.

This is a snippet of my vintage costume jewelry, most of it coming from my great-grandmother, great aunt and Nana. The round "diamond" earrings I wore at my wedding; the art deco watch was my Nana's and the bracelet that is missing a stone was my great-grandma's and one of my favorites.

The gold ladies! The fish was my great aunts (she was a total bohemian); the cigar punch is handmade by Faith; the huge gold fringe one was a half off Salvation Army purchase and the one with the locket & cameo was found at my favorite thrift shop (it's one of my all time favorites!)

More favorites-a 60s yellow enamel bird and a tribal inspired beaded flea market find

These are my most prized jewelry possession...they are African beads that belonged to my Nana and she adored them. I want to get them restrung so I can actually wear them. Since I was a little girl, I would just stare at them, hold them and admire each colorful bead.

Bangles, bracelets and watches galore! The Keith Herring watch I have had forever! The beaded bracelets are from a memorable trip to Mexico with Toby and the Chinese Zodiac animal bracelet is a favorite San Francisco Chinatown purchase.

My Little Favorites.

As promised I took some pictures of my small collection of jewelry for you. These pieces are some of my favorites and I wear them regularly. Several of them I have pieced together or made, others are thrift store finds. Each one of them hangs on a branch in my bedroom looking beautiful and cute. Once you see Miss b's you will probably laugh at mine, but I am adding new pieces to my collection daily. In fact I stopped by the thrift store and found one today. See I told you I've fallen in love.

P.s On a complete side note I found out my sister is having a baby girl yesterday. I am so excited to have a little niece. I have already started a collection of vintage finds for her. I'm out of control with my collections at this point, but at least it for a good cause.

I Put a Spell on You: Halloween Decor

I don't hide my excitement for decorating, especially decorating for Halloween! It's a time to be creative and darkly festive. I live in a very old house from the 1880's, so decorating it for a spooky time comes natural (there are already plenty of cobwebs) and turns this serious house into a spellbinding haunt! So I went a little crazy out front, with webs, huge spiders, orange & black striped bows, ugly pumpkins, and skulls. Inside, a little subtlety never hurts. DIY decorating has way more spirit than just buying things, so pick autumn foliage while on a walk and create a stunning centerpiece for free! Or, simply add white candles every where for a classic ghostly mood. Whatever you do, adding a little Halloween charm inside the home will make you smile-I promise.

Use some vintage wine goblets as candle holders for a perfectly witchy effect.

Easy as pie black paper bats-just grab some construction paper and cut!

Little monster candles (a thrift purchase) guard over the hallway on an old, beat up suitcase.

Happy Halloween banner-always festive over the fireplace. Make your own with felt.

Little touches here and there-orange twinkle lights, pumpkin candle, and a deep purple candlestick holder adorn the mantle.

Autumn foliage found on a walk, accompanies a baby pumpkin and spiders. These pretty leaves will stick around even when Halloween ends.

And, well...Miss B dressed up too! What a surprise...this is my harvest girl look, with DIY feather clip and a goblin green tee.

Time to get decorating-only a few days left!

Wicked Hues of Orange & Black

Halloween is my favorite holiday and I love to dress up in shades of orange and black as All Hallow's Eve approaches! Autumn is a perfect time to be inspired to where some wicked colors...bruised purples, devilish reds, burnt oranges, edgy shades of green and of course, midnight blacks. Fall fashion is more fun when you add a little ghoulish whimsy! Here are a few not so scary Halloween inspired fashion picks to get you in a witchy mood. You can go all out, with skull earrings and moody black or take a more subtle approach-either way, enjoy the spirit of this bewitching holiday!

No fall wardrobe is complete without a shrunken leather jacket! Studded and beat up leather jackets are even more appropriate around Halloween, especially paired with such a sweet cranberry chiffon skirt. Meow.

These eggplant hued rain boots are a perfect witchy addition to a Fall/Winter wardrobe! Cute with dresses, wool tights and a chunky cardigan for a stroll through those soggy leaves.

Too timid to go all out in spooky shades? Just add a wicked color, like this blood red, to your nails.

I love this crimson red maxi skirt! It's got all the right style elements that are "in" now-flowy, sheer and edgy. I love how the girl paired it with a sparkly black blouse and sky high pumps. Add a black & white striped tee and black combat boots for a more casual look.

Don't want to look too Halloweeny while wearing orange? Pair those autumn burnt oranges with navy or gray instead of black for a more sophisticated look.

Even though she paired her chunky orange sweater with black pants, the looks screams edgy-rocker with a touch of preppy rockabilly!

Halloween is such a fun time of the year. I love to see all the creative costumes people come up with. I have to be completely honest and say I really dislike when people just go to the store and buy package costumes. I just don't get it. Halloween is a time to be creative and recycle. Put your money back in your wallet and create a costume with items in your closet or around your house. It is so much more rewarding when you make something yourself.

It's almost time for Halloween. The weather has been getting cooler and the fog has covered the blue sky. It seems like all I want to do lately is be warm and comfortable. That is exactly what I did this weekend. I spent most of my free time relaxing in sweat pants and watching movies. I snapped this comfortable outfit Friday night before I went to dinner with friends. I love my new baggy sweater. The colors are perfect for the season. I have wore it several different ways since I bought it, but this is my favorite.

Outfit Post with Miss B: Autumn Textures

Continuing with the texture theme, my outfit post is all about layering different textures in warm Fall hues. This growing baby bump is making getting dressed each day more and more challenging! Thankfully, Fall is all about chunky sweaters, leggings and ponchos! When all else fails, I just add a rad pair of boots, a felt hat and some cool jewelry. Also, it's a good thing some of my vintage dresses were always a bit big (I always belted them) because now they kinda fit me! The one below is an old favorite-gingham cotton 1950s day dress in colors fit for autumn. Paired with my favorite burnt orange cardigan and pale pink knit cap, with wool leggings underneath-this outfit is all about layers and knit, wool, cotton and leather textures!

I love texture! I love layering different textures when I dress and Fall is the best time to be inspired by texture! The best thing about fall is all the different textures you wear at once. Fall is a lovely mix of cool crisp mornings with warn afternoons. With the different temperatures throughout the day layering is a must. I have been having so much fun with layering different textures. It's getting kinda crazy! Hello Foxes!! Whoa, you may have noticed a huge silence over here on the blog in the last couple of weeks. A lot has happened in the lives of the Love Fox family and it is time to share with you all. Faith and I have been so lucky to have such wonderful & supportive readers and shoppers. Our little shop was definitely the little shop that could, and a lot of that was due to some loyal shoppers. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Recently, however, several life events have forced Love Fox to refocus its goals. We decided to close our physical shop, which was getting more and more challenging to keep running. Having a baby on the way has also changed some of my own priorities. Financially, it was also just becoming too much. We are so sad that we had to make this decision. We don't want Love Fox to die, we just want to send it in a fresh, new direction. As Faith and I work on this, we will still be here on our blog, really putting some work into making it a special place for personal style, fashion and fresh vintage. So, this is an update and welcome back! We are happy to be back! And, we want to say thanks to all of our readers and shoppers who have stuck by us for the last two years-we love you!

Oh my gosh I am addicted to bleach. I have been bleaching everything lately. I made these shorts along with a pair of rad pants. I am having so fun. It's exciting to see what happens when you add the bleach to different colors. I like the fact that you have some control, but not all of it. I'll share my pants next week and whatever else I happen to get my hands on. Bleach...
