I woke up this morning with my 8 year old daughter kicking me with her long legs, she feel asleep in my bed last night watching a movie. She still looks like a baby when she sleeps, and I love that. I was enjoying this tender moment when suddenly I thought to myself “I wonder when she will start her period? GOD please don’t let her start too early.” Her little body is already changing with tiny baby hairs, faint body order and every month she gets extremely emotional. My little girl still plays with baby dolls, believes in Santa Claus and plays dress up. She is a girly girl and I know this will serve her well when she grows up, however right now she is experiencing the onset of puberty.

What will I say to her, exactly what words will come out, should I memorize a script? I was suddenly so confused and this immediately started all this internal dialogue, I wasn’t even out of bed yet and it was already a Manic Monday. I got up drove her to her tutoring class and I came home to check emails and BOOM !! Yahoo had an article out on this very subject, I couldn’t believe it.

I would love to share it with all of you….
MAN OR MYTH?

The US Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away.

Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. I use it when I am working outside. It really works. The insects just veer around you.

All this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer!

1. It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

2. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

3. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

5. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.

6. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.

7. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

8. To freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.

9. Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.

10. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

11. Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.

12. To freshen the air in your car - Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.

13. Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan.

14. Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

15. Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the lose hairs.

16. Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

17. Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

18. Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.

19. Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.

20. Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.

21. Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.

22. Wet a Bounce sheet, hose down your car, and wipe lovebugs off easily with the wet Bounce.

Quick, bounce this along, AND please come back and tell us if it works! I have looked on the BOUNCE site and it says nothing like it, so I am curious if anyone has tried it, and if it really works!

Trying to live your life like Will Smith.

This footage of Will Smith is quite inspirational, take a few minutes to listen to him, and tell me what you think..
Your family won’t even know that a secret healthy ingredient hides in these yummy Spuds!

At the end of the recipe I’ll tell you what I put on the bed of spuds, jut let me say, this was a totally tasty meal!

okay here's my secret ingredient!

1 head of cauliflower

2 red potatoes

1tbsp cream cheese- use g free if gluten intollerent

1tbsp butter

¼ cup of milk- so that is has the consistency of smooth mashed potato's. I add the milk after I use the mixer a bit so i can tell how much i need.

salt and pepper to taste.

First cut your cauliflower and potato’s in half,. put them in a steam basket in a pot with water and steam them on low/med for approx 30 mins, till soft.

Drain the water, return the cauli and potatos to the pot, add the butter, cream cheese, salt and pepper , mix on low to get out the lumps, add your milk 1 tbsp at a time. Once its the consistency you like, check the flavor and add more salt and pepper if need be.

These spuds would be a great side dish, with meat loaf, baked chicken, etc.

Meat topping-

For this dinner, I made a ground beef dish. It started with sauteed onions, then ground beef and garlic, a can of stewed tomatoes, a large sprig of rosemary, and a large sprig of thyme(thrown into the pot to remove before serving) a dab of liquid bouquet (a gravy, stew, flavor additive- only use this ingredient if you don’t have a gluten allergy) one can of chicken stock, 1/2 a head of chopped savoy cabbage and a decent amount of salt and pepper. Put on a lid and let it simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Take off the lid, and let it reduce on medium heat til the liquid has cooked down. and not watery.

Then in my broiler I had some kale that I cut all the leaves off into bite size pieces, tossed them in olive oil, and sprinkled with salt, tossed some more, and spread it on a cookie sheet, and broil until its crispy..

Now the plate set up-

Scoop a couple of spoonsfuls of the spuds into the center of the plate, then a spoonful of the meat mixture on top of the mashed mix, now top it with a small handful of crunchy kale..

Bon a petit!

Let me know if you like my yummy recipe..

You cant remember the last time you went a week without atleast one headache. This happeded to be one of my main symptoms when I found out that I had an intollerance to Gliadan. (it is a gluten type protein) I did have other syptoms similar to that of IBS, but my main one was a daily headache. I had resolved to the fact, that I was always going to have a fricken headache.. Oh ya, and my skin would break out like adult acne, but mostly on my neck.. a very hivey type rash.. "How attractive huh?"
I went on a wheat binge for a week, and I can say this, "i had a headache for 4 days, my sinuses were clogged, and my skin is terrible! Were the donuts really worth all that. I thought so at the time being, but this headache has been plaguing me for days. As of today, the headache has begun to dull, so I am hoping that if I am good, I will feel great within a day or two.
With all of this being said, what I was trying to do, was share some of my valuable information that I find. Please follow the above link by clicking on the article title. This is one of the most informative sites on gluten/wheat allergies. It has helped me alot, and hopefull it will help you to.

GLUTEN FREE CHAIN RESTAURANTS!

Are you tired of constantly searching for a place to go for dinner that has food you can eat? Are you ready to no longer be plagued by the "Gluten intolerance" inconvenience. I am excited to announce that I have not only found, but I have even tried a few of these restaurants, and I can share with you, my gluten challenged friends, my yummy findings!
They can literally take a normal, happy, sane person, and turn them into the beast that lives down under, and I dont mean Australia!
I can say that for myself, as I have gotten older, and given birth to two humans, my stress has become heightened, and the PMS, has for sure gotten worse! No one, and I mean no one wants to drive around yelling at the cars in front of you, beside you and behind you, for some sort of "what you think" is a driving violation! And yelling at the kids, dogs, and spouse for LITERALLY everything!!!!

So after my first child was born,(ear infections, asthma, breathing treatments, countless drs appts) and the hubby was deciding on his career,(not fun) I was totally overwhelmed and I sought out help, and reluctantly made an appt at a womens DR's group in Irvine California. "I thought, they'll get me, they'll understand," so I made an appt, had an exam. All was going quite well, until the moment came where I took a breath and got up the nerve to ask for help. "Please, I think I need help to be calmer with my kids, I dont like how I feel and I dont like people driving, or standing behind a service counter or my husband(who by the way, i hate for a week a month!)"
"Please, help me, I need something to make it all a little easier." "So the brick will be removed from my chest."

Are you ready! She suggested what? What did she say?
No more caffeine, (how will I make it thru the day) and start a regular workout regime (in which hour of the day?) and find a way to blow off the steam.. what? really? Is this for real?
I went to a specailist, because I was at the end of my rope..
Well needless to say, I kept searching, cause giving up coffee and going to the gym, at this point really wasnt what I needed.. In the end, I was given Prozac in a low dose, and for 6 months, I really felt better, the brick was off of my chest, and it helped me get through a hard time when I truely needed it.

My life 10 years later, is very different, and now I am trying to find foods that have been known to naturally heal humans with an array of different health problems.
So that leads me to this post.

I am on a search to find what other people in the world use instead of Prozac to help. In the past year and a half, I have changed my eating habits so drastically, I have learned how to be a healthier me, with Balance. I don't have Anxiety any longer, but my PMS is still not so good.. just ask my family!...smile..smile. So what I am not adding to my diet. What can I do differently?

So here are a few things thus far, Lets all give some of these a try and let us know how they are working. I will keep you all posted on what I try and how it works.. Happy Destressing, and lets say goodbye to PMS!

Foods that help-

Complex carbs (brown rice, whole wheat)

Licorice is understood to lower estrogen levels and at the same time raising progesterone

Chaste berries

bee pollen

parsley

lavender

flaxseed oil and primrose oil

vitamins such as magnesium

Many women with PMS have high dairy fat and high sugar intake each of which reduces blood magnesium levels

Calcium

zinc

B-vitamins such as B6

Green Leafy Vegetables and Fatty Fish which are full of omega-3 fatty acids.

Drinking eight to ten glasses of water daily and changing to a low-fat low-sugar diet with no caffeine

two months of taking 1,200 mg of calcium supplements daily had a significant effect on almost every PMS symptom except insomnia and fatigue. Modest amounts of magnesium-300 mg daily-may reduce mood fluctuations and depression. Additionally, vitamin E offers relief along with antioxidant benefits.

Undesirably high levels of estrogen have also been linked to deficiencies of vitamin B complex, particularly low levels of B6 and B12. Vitamin B6, which is linked to serotonin production, can ease symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Essential fatty acids (evening primrose or borage oil)

Flax oil

Fruits

Legumes

Raw nuts and seeds

Foods to Avoid:

alcohol

Animal fats

Caffeine

Dairy

Refined carbs and sugars

Pretty interesting, and it only takes a computer. I hope this helps you. please post a comment and let me know..
But new research in THE JOURNAL OF NUTRITION suggests a way to prevent this weight gain or even encourage weight loss WITHOUT DIETING!

THE SECRET: eat more fiber..
Is this for real? eat more fiber i say?

Well, the researchers at Brigham Young University in Utah followed the eating habits of 252 middle aged women for two years and found that those who increased their fiber intake generally lost weight. Women that decreased the fiber in their diets gained.. The scientists boiled the findings into a single weight loss formula. BOOSTING FIBER BY 8 GRAMS FOR EVERY 1000 CALORIES CONSUMED RESULTED IN ABOUT 4 1/2 LBS OVER THE COURSE OF THE STUDY..

Trick is that if you fill up on high fiber foods you crowd out less healthy foods.. so if your consuming 2000 calories a day, aim to increase your fiber by 16 grams.

Here is a list of foods that will help you get your fill!

Raspberries: 1 cup = 8 grams
Chickpeas: 3/4 cup= 8 grams- you can make your own hummus!
Strawberries: 1 cup= 3grams
Green Beans: 1 cup =4 grams
Avocado
Brown Rice
Apples- 1unpeeled= 3.6 grams per serving
Potato with skin = 4.7 grams
Canned pumpkin=3.5 grams- yummy pumpkin muffins made with peanut flour..
Brazilian keratin treatments leave hair smooth, glossy, and straight.

.Why Keratin is Good for Hair

Keratin is a protein found naturally in human hair. It fortifies the hair shaft, making it more resilient and less prone to breakage. Curly and wavy hair naturally contains less keratin than straight hair. Brazilian keratin treatment is a natural way to straighten hair by adding more keratin to the cuticle. During a Brazilian keratin treatment, a solution high in keratin is applied to the hair to reinfuse keratin, rendering hair silky, shiny, and straight. In addition to straightening the hair, the treatment fortifies hair with strength and elasticity.

How It Works

As the solution sits on your hair, small keratin molecules penetrate the hair cortex. These molecules work inside the hair shaft to reinfuse it with strength and improve texture. This is what causes the straight, glossy look the treatment is known for.

While the small molecules are working inside the hair shaft, the large keratin molecules coat the outside of the hair shaft. They form a protective barrier that further strengthens the hair by warding off environmental damage and helping to protect against stresses like heat styling.

What to Expect

At a salon, your hair will first be shampooed. A stylist will then apply a solution to your hair, coating all strands from roots to tips. This is the Brazilian keratin treatment. After the treatment has had maximum impact on your hair, the stylist will blow-dry and then flatiron your hair. Flatironing seals the keratin into the hair shaft and completes the treatment. The whole process will take about two hours, but will vary depending on the length and thickness of your hair.

Do not wet your hair or use any product for four full days after the treatment. Adding anything to the hair, even water, could reverse the effects of the treatment.

Typically, a keratin treatment lasts about three months. The effects will not wear off during those three months, meaning you'll have straight, shiny hair every day without the aid of heat styling or flatirons. Price varies by location, but on average, it costs around $300, as of June 2010.

Ideal Candidates for Brazilian Keratin Treatments

Anyone who wants smooth, sleek, straight, shiny hair is an ideal candidate for Brazilian keratin treatments. Pregnant and nursing women are advised to avoid this treatment.

Before keratin treatments were widely available, a Japanese straightening technique was popular. Because it was so damaging, Japanese straightening could only be performed on non-colored hair. Unlike Japanese straightening, Brazilian keratin treatments can be performed on any type of hair, including highlighted and colored hair.

A Word of Warning

Some earlier forms of the treatment contained formaldehyde. The treatment was discovered in Brazil by a mortician who noticed that corpses' hair was straightening during the embalming process. This was attributed to formaldehyde, which was used in the original formulas of the Brazilian keratin treatment. Before the procedure begins, confirm with your stylist that the treatment you are receiving is formaldehyde-free.
The financial crisis has brought about new kinds of challenges for many Americans. High gas prices, foreclosures and low wages are some well-known symptoms. One of the biggest obstacles, however, has been the feeling of uncertainty we encounter on a daily basis, whether it be our job stability, our family budgets, or even our ability to save for retirement. I tried the Steak tacos,, can i say YUMMY! My Bestie had the Panang curry dish, that was, i have to say, " TO DIE FOR". I had to force my self to keep my fork out of her bowl... Then came desert! GFREE- flourless choclate cake! it was fab with the merlot i had with dinner... The next time i eat there (which will be this friday after work)- (Im addicted)! i am going to try the Turkey Penne Bolognese- also GFREE! and they offer GFREE beer which i cant wait to try! Oh ya, i forgot to mention, the restaurant is already so hot, that there was a 20 to 30 minute wait on the 2nd night of being open...We were lucky enough to get seating at the bar, which we liked anyway....great vibe,, great decor,,,,great experience! New O.C. bistro pushes 'wellness' foods food, restaurant, true - Life - The Orange County Register

What is a public page?

(KEEN WAH)
Ok, I know so many of you have either heard of it, or read about it, and like me, you said it wrong. Most people call in quin o ah? Nope.. it is pronounced (KEEN WAH) THATS IT Quinoa!

This is the most amazing part of Quinoa!

A recently rediscovered ancient "grain" native to South America, quinoa was once called "the gold of the Incas," who recognized its value in increasing the stamina of their warriors. Not only is quinoa high in protein, but the protein it supplies is complete protein, meaning that it includes all nine essential amino acids. Not only is quinoa's amino acid profile well balanced, making it a good choice for vegans concerned about adequate protein intake, but quinoa is especially well-endowed with the amino acid lysine, which is essential for tissue growth and repair. In addition to protein, quinoa features a host of other health-building nutrients. Because quinoa is a very good source of manganese as well as a good source of magnesium, iron, copper and phosphorus, this "grain" may be especially valuable for persons with migraine headaches, diabetes and atherosclerosis.

To read more about its health benefits, like helping those plagued by migraines, go to this link... http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?dbid=142&tname=foodspice

For a great recipe, look in my previous posts and youll find a great black bean and quinoa recipe!

enjoy!

Vanishing Veggies?
1. Donate. Give to Seed Savers Exchange (seedsavers.org), a nonprofit dedicated to saving rare produce, or join the organization to receive discounted seeds.

2. Plant. Purchase seeds from Seed Savers Exchange or websites such as rareseeds.com, heirloomseeds.com, or heritageharvestseed.com to grow in your garden.

3. Discuss. Chat with gardeners about heirloom produce via online forums such as idigmygarden.com.

Reiter, Ph.D. of the University of Texas speculates that eating a handful of tart cherries may help increase melatonin levels in the blood, thereby promoting restful sleep. Melatonin may also help protect the vascular system, lessen inflammation, and reduce ischemia and reperfusion injury associated with surgery (Tan 2000 and 2003, Cuzzocrea 2001, Lissoni 1997, Reiter 2001 and 2000). A study by Dr. Reiter and researchers from St. Marianna University of School of Medicine in Japan found that feeding chicks a diet containing plants rich in melatonin indicating that dietary melatonin is absorbed into the bloodstream and can binding to sites in the brain and other tissues (Hattori 1995).

Click on the title and follow the attached link to read more about cherries and their numerous benefits, from anti aging and cancer fighting, to incredible brain power! I think I can help you learn how to buy, cook, and enjoy gluten-free pasta. Rice, Corn, Or Quinoa? Most gluten-free pastas are made from rice, corn, or quinoa. I have to say, that rice is my favorite!

· Rice pasta is one of the most easily accessible. It tends to absorb other flavors, which works especially well in dishes like baked ziti or macaroni and cheese.

· Corn pasta tastes a bit like a cross between popcorn and spaghetti. I love corn so I enjoy the great flavor of this pasta.

· Quinoa (pronounced “keen-wa”), a grain notably once popular among the ancient Inca, is a complete source of protein. That means it contains all the amino acids that the body doesn’t produce on its own. This gives it a nutritional edge. Unfortunately, my kids weren’t a fan of its unique flavor.

Note: Spelt and kamut are varieties of wheat that are sometimes misleadingly marketed as wheat alternatives. Although some people can tolerate spelt and kamut better than other varieties of wheat, people with wheat allergies, and those on a gluten-free diet, need to avoid these products. Now remember, quality and texture of gluten-free pasta can vary from brand to brand, so test several kinds for your family till you find one you really like. Your kids will be the perfect test kitchens!

Shapes and Sizes: Gone are the days when gluten-free pasta only came in one type of noodle. You can now find gluten-free spaghetti, angel hair, lasagna, rotini, shells, spirals, linguine, elbows, and even fun shapes like animals. I am not a big fan of the prepared ones, like Mac and cheese, my kids, haven’t liked the cheese flavor of any brand to date. My homemade version is still the winner.

Where To Buy: Most Health food stores often have sections devoted to gluten-free pastas. Large grocery stores may also carry them. My favorite store to purchase rice pasta, is Trader Joes, they have a large variety, and great prices! If you don’t have a health food store or section in your area, you can order gluten-free pasta online.

How to Cook:

Make sure and follow the cook times on the package. It definatley takes longer to cook rice pasta than the others, but make sure not to over cook it. If it says to cook for 15 minutes, start checking the pasta at approx 12 minutes, when it is somewhat easy (aldente) to cut with a fork, it is ready, make sure and rinse the pasta, and leave it in the colander until ready to use. I have found that adding it to the prepared sauce on the stove and cooking it together for a few minutes, cooks the pasta a little further making it perfecto!

TOFU, GLUTEN FREE CHEESECAKE

GLUTEN FREE TERIYAKI SALMON for two
2 Salmon Steaks
1/4 cup Tamari sauce (gfree)
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp rice vinegar (gfree)
1/2 tsp sesame oil (gfree)
2 cloves crushed garlic
1 tbsp sugar
1tsp ground or fresh ginger
Combine all ingredients except garlic and ginger in a sauce pan, bring to a boil, then reduce for approx 10 min. once youve reduced it, add ginger and garlic.
Let cool, pour 3/4 of sauce over salmon, (if you have the time to marinate for an hour, it will taste amazing.. if not, its ok. let it sit for a few while you set the table..open your wine and have a few sips...:)
Put your salmon in the broiler on the top rack, let cook on each side for approx 4-6 minutes, turn and baste with the remaining marinade, cook a few more minutes, then serve your salmon atop a bed of white or brown rice, Use the remaing 1/4 sauce remaining in sauce pan to garnish each salmon streak and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
enjoy!!!

Black Beans and Tomato Quinoa!

Looking for a great side dish!

Heres one packed with protein, and because your using Quinoa, you dont have the issues with gluten/wheat..Try this recipe and let me know what you think...

Black Bean and Tomato Quinoa

add 1 cup quinoa 2 cups water

2 tsp grated lime zest (opt)

2 -21/2 T. lime juice

2 T. olive oil

½ tsp. salt

¼ tsp. pepper

1 (14-15 oz.) black beans, rinsed and drained

2 medium tomatoes,

diced 4 scallions, chopped OR chopped sweet onion

¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro

Cook 1 cup quinoa (rinsed well) in 2 cups water, uncovered.

Try my veggie Kabobs.

These were an inspiration from the cleanse I am currently on with a group of my friends.. We are on day 6 and can only have veggies, fruit and brown rice.

You can use whatever veggies that you'd like, I used these:

RED BELLPEPPERS

YELLOW BELLPEPPERS

ORANGE BELLPEPPERS

BABY SWEET POTATOES ( I MICRO'D THESE FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES FIRST TO SOFTEN A BIT)

YELLOW ONIONS

ZUCCHINI

SQUASH

MUSHROOMS

PINEAPPLE

2 TBLS OLIVE OIL

BLACK PEPPER TO TASTE

APPROX 2 TABLESPOONS NO-SALT SEASONING (I USED THE ORGANIC ONE FROM COSTCO,ITS LOCATED WITH ALL THE SPICES,, THIS IS A GREAT SEASONING SALT TYPE OF ITEM.. YOU CAN USE it ON EVERYTHING!)

APPROX 8 SKEWERS (IF YOU USE WOODEN, MAKE SURE TO SOAK THEM IN WATER FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES)

CUT YOUR VEGETABLES IN SQUARE SIZE PIECES THAT WILL SLIDE ON THE SKEWER, LEAVE THE MUSHROOMS WHOLE, PUT THEM IN A LARGE MIXING BOWL, DRIZZLE WITH THE OLIVE OIL, AND THE SPICES, AND TOSS THEM AROUND A FEW TIMES TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL ARE COVERED WITH OLIVE OIL AND SPICES.. IF NOT YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD A LITTLE MORE OIL AND SPICE..

PUT THE VEGGIES ON THE SKEWERS AND ROTATE THEM VEGGIES TO MAKE IT LOOK COLORFUL.

I MADE BROWN RICE TO GO WITH MY SKEWERS, SO NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO PUT THE RICE ON..

TURN ON YOUR GRILL, LET IT HEAT ON HIGH FOR 5 MINUTES, THEN TURN DOWN TO LOW AND PUT YOUR SKEWERS ON THE GRILL, CLOSE THE LID AND LET ONE SIDE COOK FOR ABOUT 10 MIN, THEN ROTATE THEM AND COOK 10, ROTATE AGAIN AND COOK FOR ANOTHER 10.. NOW YOU WILL EYEBALL THEM AND MAKE SURE THE ONIONS LOOKED CARMELIZED AND THE BELLS ARE SOFT LOOKING..

PLACE THE KABOBS ON TOP OF YOUR BROWN RICE, AND ENJOY.

I WOULD NORMALLY USE SOME SOY SAUCE, OR TERIYAKI, BUT I CANNOT HAVE EITHER RIGHT NOW DUE TO A CLEANSE, BUY I STILL ENJOYED IT WITHOUT!

I found the product that has replaced my eye cream..

*Why is this important to me- When someone says "Guess how old I am" I go straight for the eyes, lips and the neck, these are the areas that show signs of aging first. If you don't already use an eyecream, try this one.. The rest of the products are great as well, the anti-aging products contain Acetyl Resveratol. ( the hot new anti aging ingredient on the market).

This one is for Lips and eyes! One product that does both jobs..It is formulated specifically for the delicate skin around eyes and lips, where age shows first. Lines and wrinkles are visibly reduced and cells protected by the Nutrient Reservoir™.

click on the title for the link to the product page!

Let me know what you think of your happy, younger looking skin!
