There's then also a bit of motion for some reason, but I feel it makes it much more fluid.
Wish me luck. :)

So I got that finished. Here was the original SVG that I created in Inkscape (based off THIS picture)
http://ashidora.ml/random_files/twilight.svg

And here is the finished animation. It's not pretty, (I'm still horrible at Flash) but for proof of concept, it's golden.
For vector creation.
At least. . . .
I think so.
And when compared to Inskcape.

Inkscape is a free, open source tool for creating vector graphics. Maybe it's because I've been using it for quite a while longer than Flash, or maybe Flash actually DOES suck for creating vectors, but no matter the reason, I prefer the intuitive interface of Inkscape to that of Adobe Flash, which is convoluted, frustrating, and ill-organized.

In Inkscape, the UI is all right at your fingertips, the tools are simple and really easy to use, and their functions work extremely logically. Flash on the other hand, does not work logically at all.
For instance, in inkscape, to change what type a node is, simply control click it. the shape of the node changes accordingly to reflect the different node type. In Flash, I currently do not know how to change a node; the best I can do is delete a handle, and then instead of clicking again to toggle to the next node type, it just deletes the node altogether. Not to mention that in Flash, modifying nodes and splines can be done in a myriad of different ways, most of which are inefficient and end up creating and deleting nodes at random, it would seem. In Inkscape, there's one tool to draw the spline, and one tool for editing it, and all of it's components. This is incredibly simple, and works flawlessly. need to change a curve? drag it in the direction, and handles are created. Try this in Flash, and you'll more then likely end of moving the spline entirely, or end up deleting or adding a node by accident. On the off chance that you successfully manage to change the curve from the way it was, Flash will probably not create a handle for you to work with! Or, maybe it will. It's really hit or miss with that program.

Anyway, aside from ranting, I actually have something relevant to say.
What would seem to be the standard file format for vectors is .SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). This is pretty much as universal as .JPEG or .PNG. Inkscape saves natively to this format. So of course, the logical thing to do, since it's impossible to use the bezier tool to create vectors in Flash, is to do in Inkscape and simply import it into Flash. I click import, browse to my documents where I saved the .SVG. . . where is it? It doesn't appear. Apparently, Flash does not support the extremely common .SVG file type.

>:(

This drives me insane. Imagine if you were unable to edit .PNG files in paint.

Anyway, after many hours of searching, I found that Adobe Illustrator supports .SVG files! So I imported it into Illustrator, and lo and be hold, THERE! Is. . . is. . . . my image? Nope! it's incredibly distorted. MASSIVE SIGH. After I thought I finally figured it out, it doesn't work.

Apparently, the clipping and masking functions that Inkscape uses are defined completely differently in Illustrator when it reads the .SVG files. In the end, I could not find a solution to this, so I had to go back and edit my original vector to remove all clipping and masking.

How obnoxious.

Anyway, after that was done, .SVG seemed to work quite alright in Illustrator. I then save this newly created file in the standard Adobe .AI file type.

THIS.

THIS file type is actually recognized by Flash. Yay! I can FINALLY get it to work!

Then, a few headaches and frustrations later, I find that all my layers from Inkscape aren't linked properly, and things are all over the place, and don't import to the stage very well. Despite technically being different layers, they are actually all on the same layer in Flash, which I have yet to figure out.

After COMPLETELY deleting and recreating my original vector, take the utmost care not to do anything to extravagant, I eventually exported a perfect SVG into Illustrator, which in turn finally exported a perfect AI file to Flash, which in turn loaded it all* perfectly.

*Gradients aren't aligned properly and screw up.

>:(
ARG!!!!!
I was very annoyed.

There was literally nothing I could do to the original to fix the gradients to make them work better. So, I resigned to using Flash to do gradients. At least that works, considering that gradients aren't really splines, so they're not as stupid to try to make in Flash.

In the end, I wonder whether it would just be simpler to use the crappy tools in Flash to draw things. There has got to be a better way than all this mindless converting of broken files.

I successfully made an animation in Adobe Flash!

before when I would create a shape tween, it was doing a stupid thing where it would draw extra lines between the lines that moved. It was ridiculously annoying, because I had no idea how to fix it. Then I discovered that you MUST only move one thing. To make that work, I found that I needed to place each limb on a different layer! It now works, and the stickman animates properly :)

After animating each limb moving individually, I created a motion tween and slid him across the screen. I then duplicated this thing, moved it to the end, and reversed the frames, so that he moves backwards and begins again.

:D It's so KEWL!

Yesterday I accomplished a splendiforous feat! Check after the break for info.

MY KITCHEN IS COMPLETELY COMPLETE

Yes, you heard me right, this is no joke, my kitchen is in fact, FINALLY COMPLETE. If you don't understand the gravity of this statement, allow me to broaden your mind.

I have spent WEEKS on the kitchen. Considering that the wall is round, I had one HELL of a time doing various trigonometric computations in an effort to align the cabinetry to effectively line up with the wall.

This was really really REALLY frustrating. Anyway, finished with that, I've decided to take some time to bask in my gloriousness.

All basking aside, I finally got down to the brass tax of creating a sheet. The magnificence of this sheet is is in the eye of the beholder, but I think it's rather nice. If you don't wanna download an XPS, here's a ridiculously low-res image for you to ponder.

Terrain!

So apparently we're gonna be importing the space ships we made a few weeks ago into Unity; this means we're going to need something in unity to import it into, so why not make some terrain, eh?

So that's what we decided to do! We've spent a ton of time doing nothing but designing terrain. I don't know about you, but I don't know the first thing about making terrain that looks geologically correct. Perhaps that's why we're labeling it under the guise of alien terrain; assuming that nobody can make viable and accurate terrestrial terrain, and playing off the fact that nobody knows anything about aliens, who knows?! Perhaps alien terrain looks like a giant hello kitty!

Granted that's not what alien terrain looks like, We're probably going to be designing terrain that looks remotely similar to that of earth. As such, I have painstakingly crafted this mountain:

Now that looks sort of terrestrial. The hard part is texturing. Trying to get all those snow and rock and grass and etc. is just really hard, because they all overlap and stuff, and repeat making really ugly plaid-like textures all the way across the map. To solve this, you basically have to scour the internet until you find a texture that repeats relatively smoothly. Here, I've done the best I can.

I also made these cool crags!

The water looks kinda weird with that cutoff down the middle, but that's because that's where the terrain ends.

And finally, this bitchin' skybox:

It's fantastic, isn't it.

EDIT:
apparently we're also supposed to upload some pics of the architecture and stuff that we made forever ago. The same maxim instated above was also true for our architecture, thus resulting in some really stupid looking buildings.
Some of the buildings also had to be animated. I had a nice animation that made my wibbly wobbly skyscraper actually wibble and wobble! Well actually, it more or less just rippled, but whatever. Sadly, a complex animation like this is impossible to export, considering that it was made using modifiers, so I'm stuck with an ugly dilapidated building that looks like this:

Seems to work alright.

Also, we imported our space ship stuff:

It's pretty hard to tell from that picture alone, but it's a relatively puny ship. I didn't want something big. It's sort along the lines of a small fast sports car, like this:

or this:

It'll be probably fun to fly around when somebody figures out how to get the controller script for it to work.

I've also been fiddling around with voxels and stuff to make some silly test

cave-things/overhangs/outcroppings:

Anyway, I can't quite remember what all there should be to post on this post, so I'll leave it at that

Though I am still considerably far behind, I have in fact, finished my floor, stairs and walls, thus I was able to print out a floor plan!

These are my floor plans!

Since I literally just finished the floor, the walls, and the stairs, that's really all that's there! There are no doors or windows or appliances or ANYTHING.

So the one on top is the first floor and the one on bottom's the second floor. The front door is in the bottom, on that diagonal wall to the left-ish of the stairs. When you enter, you're greeted by a nice little foyer. To the left's the kitchen, and if you go straight ahead, past the stairs, you reach the Great Room. The wall on the right is HUGE! considering that the roof in this room goes all the way up to the second floor ceiling, 'cause it's open and all, the right side wall is two stories tall! I plan to have a projector set up in the Study, that will be remotely controlled to the TV, and any other things that you may want to experience in the Great Room.

Behind the Great room was originally supposed to be some sort of work out room, or recreation room, but then I suddenly realized, I DON'T HAVE A UTILITY ROOM! Considering that this room is right below the Master Bathroom, it only made perfect sense that this room could be used for things like laundry, dryer, water heater, etc.

Going to the left, past the bathroom (the door to which will be on the diagonal), there's a small hallway; there will be windows on the upward side (of the drawing), full height to the ceiling, looking out on a patio. Moving past this hallway, we find the Dining room! I had a real heck of a time trying to figure out the way this room should work. I knew that I wanted some sort of curve, but I also wanted a flat wall. I eventually figured it out, and frankly I think it looks good enough.

Turning left again, we move into the kitchen. There is going to be a bar or something between the kitchen and the Dining room, but I haven't yet implemented it. There may also be an island, but I'm not too sure yet. This kitchen is huge, and I'm not entirely sure how to utilize all the space. At the far end of the kitchen is a pantry, rather large, where pantry items are to be stored. Passing the pantry, we make it back to the foyer, where we'll climb the stairs to the second floor.

The second floor is absolutely bizarre. I wanted to have three bedrooms, but I also wanted to maintain the curves of the lower level This contributes to extremely irregularly shaped bedrooms.

So at the top of the stairs, to the left is a bit of a sitting room. This was a must; a fundamental key component that was in my sketch from the beginning. I could probably have easily made simple stairs and bedrooms if it weren't for this room. This room is probably the main reason for all the difficulty I had when designing my stairs, but in the end, I TRIUMPHED, and was able to both have my cake, and eat it. There will be large windows in the front of the house that peer into the sitting room.

If you turn right at the top of the stairs, you come to the Master Bedroom. The Master Bathroom is attached to it, and so too is a front deck. Under the Master Bedroom is the Garage, with a front facing garage door, that I may later decide to move over to the other side.

going back into the hall, you come over to the bathroom. The bathroom is incredibly irregular, but this design is quite logical; it provides many parallel lines to other walls, making it seem easier to navigate. I don't know, perhaps I'll just make it round.

Moving past the bathroom, is the Study. I know this room will have a projector, and probably some windows and stuff.

The bedrooms are next; they are very strange; that's probably all I need to say about them.

The study is actually overhanging with no room below it. This creates a nice awning, for a patio that will have patio things. Also, the sitting room overhangs in the front, to make a small covering, in case it's raining or something.

That's pretty much all that there is to my house, and I am really proud of it. The walls were horrible to adjust, because there are quite a few that are really really annoying. Also, the floor is hard-wood.

What do you know about it? Nothing really. Since we've never seen aliens, or their architecture, we don't really know what to expect their buildings to look like. That's why I had quite a bit of difficulty with this project, because we had to actually use our imaginations. Read more after the break!

For this assignment, we had to create 5 of what we considered to be structures that may be created by aliens. To start, we had to come up with ideas. I didn't really know what to do, so I started with basic physics. I reckon that if an alien lives on a planet, then the planet probably has gravity. Thus, the buildings must probably be built in a way that complies with the physics of such a planet. . . . I soon realized that this was an incredibly limiting factor, and quickly scrapped it. That's why some of my buildings look bonkers.

Utilizing my new found lack of physics, I decided to go berserk; one building is falling over but still standing, one is floating in the sky and looks completely ugly, in that it's a friggin' blob, one is balancing on a tiny point, and the other two are simple little things that could probably work. The falling building looking one's actually animated, and ripples a bit. You can sort of tell near the end of the video.

I've finally completed mine, and this is the finished product:

Pretty schnazzy, right? To my regret, it does have a rather low poly-count, but it looks alright nonetheless. As you may notice, there isn't really a texture on it right now. I don't know if we'll do that in the future or what. But nonetheless, it's pretty cool. I started with a cube, then I craftily modeled it after a sketch that I had drawn, using the edit poly modifier.

I started with a square, cut it in half, and then mirrored it. I spent a very long time adding vertices, edges, and faces, and through much anguish and peril, finally created a model that roughly resembled my initial sketch. I then welded the two mirrored objects, and applied some finishing touches.

After that, I added a simple wire-frame and shaded texture, and the result is as pictured above.

I then uploaded a turntable-esque video to the internet, for viewing on this blog!

Even MORE schnazzy, isn't it.

Anyway, that's the majority of the project. I hope you enjoy viewing it, for I had one heck of a time getting it to work correctly.

It is such a perfect work of art, that we have been selected to create our own bouncing balls.
Now, the key piece of a bouncing ball is to make it look like it bounces accurately, according to the laws of physics. This can be really complicated, when dealing with keyframes. So instead of trying to reproduce an accurate curve with keyframes, my classmate and I decided to innovate, surpassing the levels of our other brain dead classmates by using the curve editor, making the arc of the ball more organic and natural. Check out the video:

.

However, towards the end, I got really cocky with the curve editor, and decided to make it go crazy and jump back to the start. I also made it turn into a football, because why not.

Also, because it took so long and I was a bit behind, I had to render it quickly and didn't have much time to set up the lighting. Because of that, you can't really see the texture on it too well, but it's an obscure eye ball. If you notice, the texture moves; the ball is actually rotating!

Making the ball rotate was rather simple, requiring a bit of math. I simply measured the circumference of the ball, and divided it from the distance, then multiplied by 360 degrees, to find the exact amount that the ball needed to rotate from start to finish.

It's a simple project, so I didn't really put too much effort into making it look pretty. However, the fact that it's done is a good foundation to start a class for animating.

Sketchup Shack!

Using a program known as Trimble Sketchup, things can easily be made in 3D! Over the past couple of weeks, Our Architectural Design class has been doing nothing but making a single house, IN 3D! This house is actually more of an apartment, and must be exactly six hundred square feet. This includes the balcony! View pictures and details after the break.

The easiest way that I found to make exactly 600 square feet, was to make a rectangle that was 20 by 30 feet. Thus, I had a rectangle. Then, I did a bit of thinking, and decided to put the bedroom in a corner, the bathroom in a corner, the entrance in a corner, and the living room in a corner. It resulted as follows:

For the design, I wanted a bright white background, combined with varying monochromatic shades as a background to a bright red, which would stand out quite dramatically. It was also a must that the floor be wood, because any floor that isn't absolute tripe is made of anything but carpet, so I picked a slightly dark, slightly red wood, which goes quite well, I think, with the style of the room.

When you enter the apartment, immediately what catches your eye is the bright red doors, starkly contrasting with the bright white walls. The doors on the right are rice paper sliding doors with a cherry tint, designed after the doors and walls from traditional Japanese style homes. Opening these doors leads to the bedroom, which is ten feet square, with a small closet. That object on the left there is simply a book shelf. Considering that at first only the doors were red, and the walls were entirely white, I decided, in order to make the apartment less plain, I would add a red stripe that cuts the walls in half, and have the bottom half be grey, with the top white. I think this worked wonderfully to cut up the empty walls.

Moving further into the apartment, the living room comes into view. On the left there is a standard washer/dryer combo utility, painted over in the same bright red as the doors. On the right, is a basic kitchen, including a stove, an oven, a fridge, and optionally, one could include a sink, if they find the room. From here you can also see the flat-panel wall-mounted television. The coffee table doubles as a dining table, for which those dining sit on the floor, also, according to Japanese tradition. Chairs are not provided. You can also see the balcony doors, which are full-window sliding doors.

From here, you can get a better view of the kitchen, the cabinets, and the sofa. Also, the rest of that bookshelf comes into view.

Inside the bathroom, there is a black and white tiled floor, to match the decor of the apartment. The sink is there on the right, underneath the giant mirror. On the other side of the counter, there is a shower, and past that is the small sliding door, behind which is the toilet.

Here is a view from the balcony, which is accessible from the large sliding glass doors in the living room. I had a difficult time deciding on the balcony floor, but in the end, I chose a gravel-esque thing, that's relatively coarse, like asphalt on streets. The railing is also painted in the same bright red as the doors.

And finally, from this view, you can more easily see the glass doors, and there's a bit of a glimpse of the inside of the apartment.

After a couple of weeks of work, I have managed to make this entire apartment completely from scratch, Importing absolutely nothing. In the end, I feel it turned out rather well. Sketchup is a terrible program, but it works!

Here I am, at my Senior year, and only now am I told, that we are to make blogs to post all of our work to. The funny thing is that I've gone and deleted all my work. Some was intentional, some was accidental, but nonetheless, there is nothing to post here. So, this is all I have.
