I have always considered J.A. Huss a brilliant author, but with her latest release, <i>Tragic</i>, I believe she's more than brilliant! From her action-packed science fiction series, <i>I Am Just Junco</i>, to her steamy New Adult contemporary series following Rook and Ronin, Huss is showing her talent for entertaining readers no matter the subject.<br />
<br />
Rook is at her lowest in life: living in a shelter and recently finding herself unemployed. A chance encounter with models in a coffee shop lead her to photographer Antoine and his upcoming TRAGIC campaign. She lands the role that turns her life around for the better despite finding herself out of her comfort zone and modeling exotic shoots with charming Ronin.<br />
<br />
I'm usually not a fan of New Adult stories with both a hero and heroine's point of view, but Huss doesn't upset the balance by keeping Ronin's thoughts to a minimum and focusing more on Rook. Their connection is spot on because they have different upbringings but a mutual understanding of each other. The first of the <i>Rook and Ronin</i> series is emotional and filled with reality. I can't wait to see how their story continues to unfold. I know that with Huss' style it'll be an unpredictable but entertaining experience!<br />

dress appears again. He lifts my left hand and paints each fingertip pad
with cherry juice, then sucks it off, nibbling them one by one, just

Tracy March's romantic thriller is an exciting novel full of suspense and surprise. Every step of the plot is unexpected but perfect to make Girl Three a fascinating read.<br />
<br />
When Jessie discovers that her sister's death may not have been an accident she puts herself in the danger zone. The people that her sister surrounded herself with are immediately cast in suspicion. The politics involved their world is littered with deceit and greed making Jessie task that much harder. March doesn't simply hand Jessie the answers, though someone is giving her a trail of crumbs to follow. The killer is sneaky, obviously rich with connections and out to keep the truth under wrap.<br />
<br />
At times the story felt drawn out, like Jessie was getting no where closer to the truth and that her eventual ally, Michael, was never going to get past his own grief and be of some actual use. I found that Michael's side of Girl Three, as a behind the scenes security guard first for Jessie's sister, then herself, wasn't quite so interesting. It did provide a strong conflict between Jessie, Michael and her father that helped with the overall suspenseful tone of the novel.<br />
<br />
There's really no in-between with this story, you either love it or hate it. Tracy March is a writer who knows how to get the wheels turning in her readers' minds and keep them coming back for more!<br />

sister, Billie, desperately try to fill in the void left by Sean’s
mother. Roy, turning every success into a failure, roams the used car

Chris Ross keeps it real in <i>Born & Raised</i> as he relates life in the summer of 1984 for Sean Yoakam. With a mother who walked out on her family and a not so affectionate older sister and father, Sean's coming of age story makes you want to better
appreciate the blessings and good family life you may have.<br />

Ross' storytelling paints the picture of what Sean's life is like very vividly. It easy to envision yourself growing up in Sean's shoes no matter how tough or unusual, the writing style is that expressive and honest. I wasn't too crazy about the narration style with no quotation marks around speech, though it made the story sound conversational and more like Sean's speaking directly to the reader, I had a hard time keeping up each character's speech. I wouldn't say that this detracted from the enjoyment of the story, but it did occasionally trip me up during some scenes.<br />
<br />
Ross doesn't completely depress readers, but shows the possible reality
that could be anyone's life. I would recommend <i>Born & Raised</i>, especially because it is a story that will capture readers who love to see someone young make it through rough situations.<br />

I would say that the third installment in Kimberly Kinrade's <i>Seduced</i> series is surely explosive! The action continues to steadily pick up as Rose learns startling truths about her powers and she travels to the darkest depths to save her love.<br />

Kinrade's writing style is just as expressive as ever and it will give reader so much to look forward to when reading <i>Seduced by Power</i>. The emotions are so tangible: the passion, fear, anger, and desperation all glue minds to the story. I do have to admit that I thought some of the plot lines were ended rather too easily or just too unimpressive. Some scenes did make me wonder how well they meshed with the story as a whole, but the overall enjoyment of the story still remains on a high level.<br />

<b>Zenn grew up
behind the mud-brick walls of the Ciscan Cloister Exovet Clinic and Training
Facility.</b> So, from the very start, she was surrounded by alien animals. Mostly
big, often dangerous but always intriguing. She followed her mother, Dr. Mai
Scarlett and her Uncle Otha, the clinic’s medical director, as they made the
rounds of the clinic’s exotic patients, treating their illnesses, healing their
injuries, fulfilling their varied dietary needs and generally caring for them.
So, for Zenn, alien animals weren’t at all “alien,” they were familiar friends
and acquaintances, with distinct personalities and fascinating behaviors. Like
200-foot-long Tanduan swamp sloos that use their sticky, 30-foot tongues to
lick giant insectoid prey out of their subterranean hives. Or Zenn’s little pet
rikkaset, Katie, who is able to communicate with Zenn using sign language, and
whose refractive fur allows her to “blend” with her environment and vanish from
sight.</div>

This too caused her attention to be focused on the animals at the clinic, as

From an early
age, Zenn was able to appreciate that her mother and uncle held the clinic’s
animals in high regard. She also directly witnessed the process of how Mai and
Otha brought sick animals to a healthy state, how they reduced or prevented an
animal’s suffering, and how these animals then responded to the human beings
who were so intent on healing them. For a young girl in this situation, it was
a natural progression for her to go from affection for these animals to a
desire to help them the way she’d seen her mother and uncle do. In fact, from
the time that Zenn was old enough to understand that there was such a thing as
an exoveterinarian, she was determined that one day she would become an exovet
like her mother. This determination went beyond being a dream for Zenn, and
became a firm expectation.</div>

Added to this
is the attitude of others toward the exoveterinarian profession in general.
While it’s true that most Martian colonists, and almost all Earthers, are
deeply suspicious of alien races and their animals, even the most xenophobic
person understood that an exovet endured rigorous medical training to reach the
status of a fully licensed exoveterinarian master, and in most people, this
engendered at least a grudging level of respect. Even a young girl would appreciate the sort
of status accorded to an exovet.</div>

As for what’s
involved in exovet training at the Ciscan Cloister, it’s somewhat similar to
schooling that the more familiar Earther-animal veterinarian schools provide,
but with a few… interesting additions. Besides the standard core-curriculum of
courses in alien animal biology, anatomy, neuroscience, pathology, clinical
examinations, anesthesia, surgery and other requirements, Zenn’s exovet
training would involve in-depth courses in the planetary ecologies on the dozen
inhabited worlds of the Local Systems Accord. Understanding the diverse
environments in which various alien animals evolved is a vital part of any
exovet’s schooling and provides the foundation for any further specialization
in treating the life forms of a specific planet. Then there are the
species-specific tools of the exovet profession. Like the in-soma pod, for
instance. Roughly seven feet long and
three feet wide, and streamlined for ease of passage, the in-soma pod is a
diagnostic vehicle that the exovet pilots through the interiors of the largest
alien species. These species would include the swamp sloo mentioned above, and
other mega-fauna such as the 700-foot-long <i>Lithohippus
indra</i>, or Stonehorse. Once inside the animal’s digestive tract or certain
fluid-filled body cavities or ventricles, the exovet is then able to deploy the
in-soma pod’s various outboard manipulator arms and other tools to diagnose
ailments or injuries and to conduct therapeutic procedures, all without the
need for surgical interventions conducted from the outside.</div>

So, as noted
above, that Zenn would commence her novice year of exovet training at the
Ciscan Cloister was, for her, predetermined. There was simply no other path she
could envision her life taking. The fact that her mother Mai had been lost
during an in-soma pod insertion into an ailing indra when Zenn was young only
reinforced this passion, and in fact most likely contributed to Zenn’s near
obsession with ascending to the position of a
full master exovet.</div>

Of course,
the initial year of exovet training is considered the most difficult of all the
years that follow. As Zenn begins her
own novice year of school at the cloister, it’s safe to say she’ll find herself

Kris Austen Radcliffe took me by surprise with the first novel of her <i>Fate, Fire, Shifter, Dragon</i> series. <i>Games of Fate</i> has such an interesting plot line that I found myself not wanting to stop reading for anything much other than sleep. </div>

The first noticeable aspect of the story line was how Rysa's ADHD ties in to her past-present-future seeing ability. Even though further along in the story Radcliffe makes it seem as though her newly emerging powers mirror her ADHD condition, I don't think translated well enough. The imagery didn't always give me that impression. On the other hand, Rysa's bond with Dragon and Ladon was pretty sweet and I loved that sign language was a bonding point for them. It really made up for some of the confusion stemming from the writing style as it opened the way for understanding in certain scenes and in the story as a whole.</div>

The fantasy aspect is very imaginative but the execution could have been a little less focused on imagery and language and more on plot progression and characterization. By the end of the story I didn't feel so connected to the characters as people. The bits and pieces of their life before all the non-stop action didn't paint such a stable picture for me. I also didn't feel that this novel was really 'new adult'. With all the drawn out scenes of running and fighting, readers do not see a woman transitioning from teen to adult. Just because a character is college age does not mean the story should be labeled new adult. I didn't feel a connection to this story because Rysa's in the same age group as me, I just really wanted to understand her unexpected powers as much as she wanted to.</div>

I can see myself diving back into this world, especially because I can tell that there's so much left untold. I would recommend this novel because Radcliffe brings something new to the fantasy genre, but I would just hope the writing is more condensed and more to the point.</div>

According to Jennifer Apodaca, even if doing whatever it takes involves Megan Young, a successful young veterinarian, telling her son's ex-Marine, and absolutely against commitment, father that he has a son, well then...she'll do it.<br />

This <i>Once A Marine</i> novel may be set in the small town of Raven's Cove, but it's packed with a variety of characters and touching experiences. Apodaca makes it so easy to feel involved in both Adam and Megan's lives, their choices and consequences of their actions. The hint of suspense that threads through the plot enhances the emotional aspect and draws us further into their story.<br />

I can't imagine someone reading <i>The Baby Bargain</i> and just completely hating it. It has a mildly heated romance and a relatable theme. With its cozy feel, I recommend it for a rainy summer day when you can just curl up inside and take your time reading it. It's an absorbing read that will definitely take you away!<br />

Astarte is a Kythan guardian, charged with the protection of the Queen of Egypt's son, Caesarion. While Cleopatra is overseas fighting the King Octavian's Roman forces, Astarte wars within herself. Her race, along with the Naroclym, have been slaves to Pharaohs for centuries. It's in her blood to obey every command even when it comes from her best friend. As <i>Astarte's Wrath</i> continues in Wolfe's flowing and passionate writing style, the story comes alive with meaning and purpose. Though I have yet to read <i>Destiny's Fire</i>, another <i>Kythan Guardian</i>s novel, I can feel that I won't be lost when I finally delve into it. The whole dynamic between Egypt and Rome, the Shythe, Narcolym and Kythan people becomes clearer as Astarte's story takes off. The intro was a very intriguing starting point to introduce one of the main concerns of the plot, but I felt so lost jumping into so much of the history of the story so quickly. I really didn't understand at first, but I loved that Wolfe kind of breaks down the situation further along so as to not keep readers confused.<br />
<br />
Astarte and Xarion's romance was every bit of tragic, but I would not ask to have anything about it change. It had all the emotions of a classic forbidden love but with a twist stemming from the story's mythological set up. Do not hesitate to jump into the <i>Kythan Guardians </i>series at this point! I truly believe that readers will experience a world that will leave them begging for more!<br />

Mills somehow mixes in so much encouragement and very faith-conscious characters who know how to add a few words here and there to keep readers uplifted.<br />

Between the characters with quirky characteristics and vulnerabilities and the fantastic romance, Parr will gain fans something to talk about. Many stories have been published under this newly popular genre but not all of them have that spark of connection, like <i>Rush Me</i>. It's officially one of my favorites so far and I'm also hoping to read more from Parr in whatever genre!<br />

Kristie Cook spices up the popular subject of souls, romantic reincarnation, of love that spans lifetimes. The first in her all new <i>Book of Phoenix</i> series, <i>The Space Between</i>, is another addition to the new adult genre that the world will embrace with willing arms.<br />

Leni's last day in Italy, when her dream of dancing on stage comes to a close, she comes face to face with Jeric Winters. Their meeting seems like fate but the connection is instant. When Jeric and Leni part ways they never expect to see each other again, especially not in Leni's hometown in Georgia. When life starts getting weird for them both they find that they only have each other, a locked journal, and mysterious tattoos.<br />
<br />
<i>The Space Between</i> is more contemporary romance with supernatural elements than an all out adventurous fantasy. Though the story takes readers back to the past, to show the connection between Leni and Jeric's past lives as Jacey and Micah, it didn't feel like the story took off until the last ten to fifteen chapters. Reincarnation can be a tricky storyline to get into more so when readers have to relive the same story twice. Even with tweaks and differences, it takes the edge off the excitement of the plot. I really had a hard time getting through Jacey and Micah's chapters, especially knowing that I was reading something completely similar to what I'd just read about Leni and Jeric or what would be coming.<br />
<br />
Despite the structure of the story, there are elements of characterization that spoke volumes about the uniqueness of Cook's writing style. Jeric and Leni have tough pasts, tragic and complex. Cook's characters have depth that shows in their actions as well as their thoughts and feelings. I loved that the most solid aspect of their connection was sign language. Jeric had to learn to sign because of hearing loss and Leni learned to better communicate with an older family member. It's not often that I get a chance to find a story like <i>The Space Between</i> that presents characters with physical challenges or some other aspect that's makes them more relatable as real, every-day people.<br />
<br />
Cook is an author that charms her readers with thoughtful plots and tantalizing characters. <i>The Space Between</i> is especially perfect for readers who strongly love stories about souls and reincarnation. <br />

Tim Lebbon set the stage for Lucy-Anne and Jack's frighteningly supernatural version of London in <i>London Eye</i>. He drew us in with a chilling premise and excellent execution of a city come undone. Fans of the <i>Toxic City</i> series will revel with its latest installment, <i>Reaper's Legacy</i>!<br />
<br />
<i>Reaper's Legacy</i> is a grand extension of the first novel. The plot presents so many changes in the characters and the city itself. Lucy-Anne is following the enigmatic Rook to the North in search of her last familial connection. Rook, a mysterious character who also has a story of deep loss, fits in perfectly. I'm actually quite excited about Lebbon expanding his character because he adds a dark intensity to an already attractive set of characters. On the other side of London, Jack faces his own moving challenges along with Sparky and Jenna. The effect of Jack having been touched by Nomad begins to reveal that he's physically changing. Jack is coming into his own supernatural power, more than one it seems. While the Irregulars are dying from a suspicious sickness, Jack is bent on reaching out to his Superior father, Reaper, to implore that he join forces with Irregulars. The main goal is to save his mother and sister while bringing peace to the toxic city.<br />
<br />
Lebbon has truly outdone himself. The pacing, tone, and style of the novel is consistent, but the plot will truly captivate readers. Lucy-Anne's prophetic dreams are brought into greater focus while Lebbon begins setting up a very explosive future for the series. While Lucy-Anne's side of the story is left clouded in obscurity, readers will end the story with something to ponder over until the third book in the series, <i>Contagion</i>. The fate of Lebbon's destroyed London is going to be even worse, but there's no predicting the events to come. <i>Reaper's Legacy</i> proves itself to be just as ingenious and intense as <i>London Eye</i>, perhaps even more so! No doubt, every reader who picks up this series will be gripped by it's adventure and dark mystery.<br />

<em>Emilie and the Hollow World</em> is steep with action and adventure that’s not distracted by pointless drama. It’s one aspect of the novel that increased my opinion by the end. Another was Emilie’s character. As the story progressed Wells’ writing style seems to loosen and each character’s characterization became either more impressive or simply more defining. When the plan to rescue Dr. Marlende quickly falls apart and the crew on the <em>Sovereign</em> encounters danger after danger, Emilie steps up. She takes her role as rescuer with stride and puts her own fears aside to save the lives of others. By the end of the novel, Emilie is a walking, talking confidence machine.<br />

The pace of the novel is a little slow at first, but once you warm up to the subject and the characters it seems to move a bit faster. The science-fiction and magical elements of the novel are unique, but the explanations sometimes went over my head. Maybe it was the technical wording, but my eyes kind of glazed over on scenes that referenced how the aetheric engines ran. Even so, the plot was overall easy and fun to follow.<br />

<em>Emilie and the Hollow World</em> is worlds different from most stories currently on YA shelves, but it’s the beginning to an exciting series that I wholeheartedly recommend!</div>

<b>I look behind us to see if they're following, but they're not. Ashur whooshes open a door with a wave of his hand and they drag me into a bedroom and push me down on the bed.</b>
<b>"Junco," Ash starts, his voice calm and deep. "Look at me, Snowbird."</b>
<b>I look up into his eyes. They are glowing so bright they are almost fluorescent.</b>

<i>The Magpie Bridge</i> is perfect after the uncertain conclusion of <i>Range</i>. The future of the world, Junco's life and everyone surrounding her is just up in the air. This novella opens readers to Tier's thoughts. He provides insight into what's happening and he also gives us what was missing from <i>Range</i>: certain hope, clearer answers and better understanding of Junco's motivations.<br />

I'm really glad for this novella because it makes it easier to focus on the romantic aspect that has been tagging along in the plot. It's been there, but something about taking a break from the immediate action and life-threatening decisions makes it easier to savor. Tier has such a soft and poetic side that we don't get to see without being filtered from Junco's point of view. He is powerful and fierce but his care for Junco and what she believes in makes him a heartthrob.<br />
<br />
What Tier reveals in <i>The Magpie Bridge</i> will make you rethink this series as a whole. His words will hopefully prepare you for whatever comes next, but they'll definitely move you to think differently about him and the story's progress. Huss hasn't let us down in the entertainment and satisfaction departments and she isn't starting now! I wouldn't skip this quick novella. Not only will it open your eyes to a new side of the story, but it will also tide you over till the next Junco adventure!<br />

the <i>I Am Just Junco</i> series has seemed like smooth sailing. All up until <i>Range</i>,
that is. Junco is starting to seriously question her past, present and future.
Now that she’s lost so much hope along with loved ones she’s beginning to
question who she truly is. The only answers she receives, though, lead her to
believe that she’s been betrayed. Within the lies and half-truths readers, like
Junco, will question what’s really true and what’s not.<br />

Junco really lets loose, reckless and kind of scary!
Believing that she’s insane causes her to rebel against Lucan and Tier’s
orders. I never stopped to wonder at how heavily this series is influenced by
military themes until Junco stops leading or following and starts aimlessly wandering
around. With no clear answers about anything going on around Junco, it’s hard
to even figure out what’s going on in Junco’s head. The fate of the world is in
her and the other six siblings’ hands, but it’s so hard to trust that Junco won’t
flip out and ruin everything. Somehow, through all the mistrust and unclear
paths this story takes, I loved its unpredictability. It wasn’t straight
forward, but Huss kept the plot orderly and as logical as possible for our understanding and enjoyment.<br />
<br />
Four novels in and I cannot get enough of Junco!
Each novel adds a defining piece of the bigger picture and further dazzle us. Huss is amazing at
world-building and I’m amazed at how interesting the <i>I Am Just Junco</i> series
continues to become no matter how complex or out of this world it gets!<br />

Junco exploded onto the scene in <i>Clutch</i> and she hasn't stopped yet! J.A. Huss brings back her wild, foul-mouthed heroine with another fierce installment in the <i>I Am Just Junco</i> series: <i>Flight</i>. Junco survived the fledge with a devastating victory and found a most shocking way to save her beloved Tier.<br />

What's interesting about <i>Flight</i> is how much further and deeper we're privy to Junco's childhood. All the stories up to this point have shown us bits and pieces of what led Junco to this point in time, but this time Huss took it a step further. Not only do we see who was involved in her childhood, but we see how the prophecy of the Seven Siblings tied in with how she was raised to be a killer. <br />
<br />
The first novel of the series basically outlined the Seven Siblings prophecy, but honestly I couldn't quite picture what the future of the series held. Huss does and excellent job of clearing up any confusion by adding details and finally moving forward in it's fulfillment. The 039, the team of Avian warriors including Junco and Tier, are leading a mission with rebels on Earth to rescue the other four siblings still in captivity. The discoveries of <i>Flight</i> are shocking, a little creepy, but so perfect for this novel filled to the brim with elements of science-fiction.<br />
<br />
Even with this important mission, that could change the world with its success or failure, Huss manages to combine action and strategy while leaving room for drama and heartbreak. Junco's friendships deepen and separate while new bonds are formed. The end of the novel is probably my favorite part, actually. Not because I was happy the story finally ended, but because it ended with a shocking twist involving Lucan. This mysterious character who stays on the sidelines until very prominent moments, Lucan shows himself as a vital part of readers and Junco finally understanding the prophecy.</div>

Junco is now on the Avian planet Amelia and she is now an Avian herself. While Tier is on trial for treason, she struggles to find a place in her new life. She becomes acquainted with friends of Tier's. Her easy camaraderie with Ashur, Braun, Isten, Arel, Mish, Ryse, Rikan and eventually Lucan the Commander, is refreshing. I love to see this many characters extend such a strong bond with the main character, especially one in need of support like Junco. It's also a plus that Huss was able to make their relationships come about and progress naturally: bonding time, fights, making up...her touch was indeed realistic!</div>

Fascinating characterization aside, Huss deepens the the whole of the plot. While <i>Fledge</i> seems to take our minds off of the mess Junco and Tier left of Earth, we see that Avian life comes with it's fierce challenges as well. Junco learns she must fight to the death to keep her life and her spot as the '9th' on Tier's team, the 039. She takes the chance, forming bonds with few of the other contenders while balancing new discoveries about Earth's status and Tier's fate. I have to admit that this ordeal showed more layers of Junco, even more than what had been glimpsed in <i>Clutch</i>! I had an easier time of feeling her devastation about the past and present woes, so much easier that I even bawled my eyes out.</div>

Fortunately, Huss strikes a perfect balance. Whether you laugh, cry or submerse yourself further in Junco's story, you will be unable to tear yourself away from it. Linda Stasi gives readers food for thought in her chilling mystery. <i>The Sixth Station</i> follows intrepid reporter, Alessandra Russo, as she traverses the world looking for proof that might not exist. Proof that alleged terrorist Demiel ben Yusef is the 'Son of the Son'.<br />
<br />
ben Yusef's many followers believe that he is a second Jesus. When Russo is singled out by him on the opening day of his United Nations Tribunal, she becomes a part of his story. She must find proof that he truly is the man of peace he claims to be. The central idea that Jesus was cloned is pretty out there, and still quite unbelievable by the end of the story. But, Stasi's writing style is impressive and engaging. She doesn't cross the line between embellishing a 'what if' situation and pushing on readers that Jesus could ever be cloned.<br />
<br />
I really loved that <i>The Sixth Station</i> put me right back in European History! The religious conflicts, like between the Templars, Cathars, and the church, that Stasi ties into the story are extremely interesting. Alessandra, with a skeptical nature that forced her to deny every piece of information handed to her, traveled through Turkey, France, and Italy to find the little pieces of the big picture. Each stop brought more insight to readers and Alessandra alike and made getting to the end a lot easier.<br />
<br />
While the story isn't riddled with shocking twists and turns, I found that certain scenes threw chills down my spine. The thrill of the mystery will suck readers in despite the unusual topic. <i>The Sixth Station</i> undeniably shows Statsi's ability to completely captivate her readers!<br />

Within a series, the best feature possible is when the author kicks it up a notch with each installment. Klimo does so and more! <i>A Gathering of Wings</i> expands Malora's world as she leaves mount Kheiron for the marketplace in Kahiro. While there she and her centaur friends come across a variety of different hibes along with a lead on Sky's whereabouts. Even strands of mythology are highlighted in the fantasy aspects of the story now that readers are
introduced to more intriguing creatures.<br />
<br />
For me, the biggest drawing point for <i>A Gathering of Wings</i> is the burgeoning romance between Malora and the man of her dreams: Lume, the Wonder. It's subtle but Klimo's writing style, which is very expressive, makes it stand out against the fast-paced flow of the story. Lume is one of the few new characters presented, but definitely my favorite next to Malora. He proves himself to be a fierce warrior, angry and with a dry sense of humor. I could fill a page of descriptions for him, but Lume's smooth and protective nature is the most admirable.<br />
<br />
Don't miss the next stage in Malora's journey. <i>A Gathering of Wings</i> is an exciting addition to the <i>Centauriad</i> series and Klimo has truly outdone herself!<br />
