Dogs dieing mysteriously in the Uk.

2011-05-31T12:47:00.000-07:00

Dog owners have been urged to be vigilant after a number of pets mysteriously died after using a popular walking spot.

Officials suspect the animals may have been poisoned but no-one knows if they were deliberately targeted or died by accident.

The deaths have left families in the village of Cross Hills, North Yorkshire, extremely anxious about their pets.

In almost all instances, the dogs collapsed and died within minutes of returning from a walk along a tree-lined footpath which leads down to fields by a lake.

The RSPCA has put the number of deaths at eight, although there could be more dog owners who have been affected but who have not come forward yet.

RSPCA spokeswoman Leanne Plumtree said: "We thought it was probably an isolated thing at first but then we heard about more and more dogs getting poisoned in the area.

"Not all of the dogs have been referred to the RSPCA. We have been working with two vets in the area who have confirmed the deaths.

"We are really concerned that people stay out of the area with their pets.

"This particular footpath seems to have been pinpointed in an area where a lot of dogs are walked. But we don't know for sure where they have picked this up from or what they have picked up."

Miss Plumtree said that the dogs had very quickly shown symptoms after being walked, convulsing and frothing at the mouth before dying.

She added: "It is obviously very distressing for the dog owners.

"They are extremely worried and until we can pinpoint what has caused this, dog owners are being told to stay away.

Vets are carrying out post-mortem examinations to try to pinpoint the exact cause of death.

Eileen Johnson's Jack Russell, Diesel, was one of the first dogs to die when he collapsed just ten minutes after returning home from a walk.

Mrs Johnson, 71, had put the kettle on after the walk when she heard a thump and turned around to see her six-year-old pet having a fit.

She told the Daily Mail: "We walk the fields five days a week and I can't believe this has happened.

"He was a lovely, lively little thing. He had never been ill and then he died so suddenly as if someone just came in and shot him in front of my eyes

Man Arrested for Trying to Break in and take Dog from Pound

2011-04-30T08:46:00.000-07:00

SACRAMENTO—
A man, reportedly intoxicated, tried to break into animal control after officers took his dog away.

Early Thursday morning Timothy Parkinson was arrested for outstanding warrants and having an open container of alcohol. Animal control officers showed up and took his dog for safekeeping.

Later in the morning, around 7:30 a.m., Parkinson had been released from jail and drove onto the sidewalk and blocked the entrance to the Sacramento City Animal Care Services building along Front Street. Cops say he then started yelling and banging on the door, breaking a lower window pane.

Cops were called and arrested Parkinson again, this time for vandalism and DUI.

Would you do the same if police took your pet away?

Dog Trainer Saves Dog With CPR

2011-03-10T18:19:00.000-08:00

A man breathed life back into a seemingly dead dog, and it was all captured on video.

Ron Pace, owner of the Canyon Crest Training Center for dogs in Tacoma, Wash., didn't even hesitate when one of his K-9 students, Sugar, suddenly collapsed.

"I noticed right then he wasn't breathing," Pace said.

The facility began recording the incident to give to the pooch's veterinarian.

The dog trainer quickly begins chest compressions on the 4-year-old Boxer, the nearly eight-minute-long video shows, while Sugar's owner, Tiffany Kauth, cries hysterically off-camera.

Pace admitted he did not know how to perform CPR on a dog. The video shows him pushing down on the animal's chest several times before adjusting its tongue, holding its mouth shut and breathing once into its nose.

"It may have not been the correct way to do it and the way that they teach," Pace said. " it's the outcome that's what was important."

After a few more chest compressions and almost two minutes of not breathing, Sugar's chest can be seen rising and falling again in the video. A few minutes later, with his owner beside him, the dog stands, clearly frightened after his ordeal.

"He's amazing," Kauth said of Pace, who has been training dogs since 1976.

Sad Day for me

2011-03-01T07:45:00.000-08:00

9 years of life left me today. My best friend Boy passed away in my arms. He looked up at me and 2 breaths later he left us forever.

Today I am devastated, Im heart broken and heavy chested. I lost the best friend I could ever ask for. He was the only one that was always there when I walked in the door. I get up at 5 every morning and every morning he was up with me to sit with me while I had my morning coffee

For people who are not pet owners you may think this guy is being a sap but Boy was a part of my life. He was so loved and today is a very sad day in our house.

I know he loved being here. He was never neglected and was always the center of attention. Boy was always there to listen and he never got angry at anyone or anything.

Boy loved chasing his ball, eating his treats, going for walks and so much more. I know this may be a little boring to many of you but I just needed to get my words out. However i know other pet owners will understand.

Anyways I know there isnt a lot here but writing at the moment is very difficult. I just needed a place to release some words for my pouch.

Boy I love you, miss you and will never forget you.
