Homepages Friends is a get-paid-to-search site with Yahoo! Search behind as the search provider. They split the advertising revenue generated on bona fide searches with their members 50/50.

What do you do?
"You search and you earn."
In order to use it, you need to have either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 installed. You can download them from a link on their site.

When you sign up in the site, you will be asked to add to your browsers search box a search plug-in of their own. When you use the search box, it will return results from Yahoo! and you will earn a few cents in return.

How much can you earn?
"If you thought you will get rich from this, please get real!"
You will get 1 pence (～$0.02) per search which is not bad. I average about 20 - 30 searches everyday from my work, blogging, hobbies, etc. You can do more because there's no limit on the number of searches you can do.

So,
25 searches x $0.02 cents = $0.50 per day

In theory, you will earn $15.0 a month just by yourself. You can earn more by referring friends to the site.

If you’re a student, blogger or a researcher, this is definitely worth considering. At least try it out for a while and if it doesn't work for you, what have you lost?

To my surprise, the Hammeruler is back! The people behind this product is really serious in their product and they made another series of survey on how to improve their hammer and ruler in one.

My first impression with this hammer is stupid idea! But on the second thought, the concept is marketable.

It's a good point that the makers of this hammer are consulting their market so they will better know how can they improve this product or just dump the idea in the trash. From the survey, many responders are saying they will buy the product (most of them are from US).

This new technology produces high definition holograms that capture the sweat and even the pores of a human. With this technology, your relatives abroad can walk right into your home and have a talk with you and then vanish before you know - a Star Wars concept transformed into reality.

It’s amazing! It really looks like the person you’re talking to is in the same room with you. I know this will be good for businesses specially those with global market, but can you imagine how the porn industry will handle this technology? I don't think Cisco has imagined this to disseminate porn in a veridical way, but there’s no doubt the porn kings will be Cisco’s customers (the biggest maybe, who knows).

Hmmm... I'm just wondering how long it’s going to take for a time machine, a flying car and Potter’s invisibility cloak to become a reality. Those are things to look forward.

Himatsubushi : Kill Time

Try this game of Himatsubushi, which literally translates to "kill time" or "crush boredom" in Japanese.

This is a fun and weird flash game where your main objective is to keep your mouse pointer safe as long as possible from a little orange ninja guy who will try to grab or hit your cursor with lots of tricks you will never thought or expect. I say he is a cursor addict or cursor maniac! The game also requires you not to move your mouse outside the game's background or else your score will reset to zero.

This is not easy as you might think because the ninja guy will always get you and will give you a big grin every time he captures or destroys your cursor. Just a warning: don't get irritated to him because if you do, you will really smash your monitor screen!

HammeRuler : A Hammer and a Ruler in One!

Let's talk about hammers today. Have you heard of a hammer and a ruler molded into one? Well, just put a ruler's markings in the hammer's handle and you got the image of it. Not a nice idea for me.

There's this new product to be released at the end of this year and it's called Hammeruler. Very creative name indeed! And the makers are trying to gauge how well it will sell come the big day.

Is it really worth putting the ruler in the hammer? Or putting the hammer in the ruler? The makers argue that by doing this it will cut down the time needed for the user to switch tools, especially if the user only does short measures. No one realizes how much time a user spend on putting down his hammer to pick up his ruler and that's understandable. For me, I want the two tools different from each other.

Just 'hope this Hammeruler will hit. Just don't hit your finger with the hammer because your using it as a ruler!

Google Search Tips and Tricks

Most of us has been using Google Search for our internet searches. In just a click of a mouse, you can readily get the information you want. But do you know that there are some tricks in improving the results of your Google search? Let me give you some which I have read from other Googlers.

Force Find.
Use Quotation marks to force find a specific phrase you need. When you surround your phrase with quotation marks, your telling Google to search for the exact phrase as you type it. Google will only return results exactly matching the entire phrase.

This is an extremely powerful searching technique, however majority of web searchers don't use it.

For example, if you search for the phrase blogging tutorials, you will get 303,000 results. But if you put quotation marks around the entire name, your results will be restricted to about 17,800.

That sounds more maneageable, right?
Searching in a Range.
So, you are searching for Sexy Singles between the age of 18 and 25 or looking for a cake which weighs between 100 and 200 pounds? Google has a way which lets you specify the range you want to find results in.

The trick is to use “..” — double dots — between the range. For example, Cake 100..200 pound or Sexy Singles 18..25 years.

I don’t really want to give the exact query I used to test this trick — I am sure some of you are reading it from work — but don’t forget to specify the unit. Google is smart but not “THAT” smart.
Plus and Minus.
Use the plus (+) and minus (-) signs. The plus sign just before a search term means "This MUST be found in the search".

Conversely, if you find a lot of search results that include a word that you don't want to see, you can put a minus sign before that word, and those results will be excluded from your search.
Use Wild Card Term
You can use an asterisk (*) as a wild card search term. Yes, you can insert an asterisk in your search phrase and it will act as a wild card matching any word in that place in the phrase.

Not only that, but you can insert more than one asterisk in place of more than one word in your search phrase. That's very helpful!
Synonym Search.
Do you want to search for the word and its synonyms at the same time? Thank Google they made it easier for you than you having to search every synonym individually.

You just to add the “~” sign in front of your search term and all synonyms of you search words will be added to your search.

For example if you want to search for funny videos along with its synonyms then just search for ~funny ~videos and Google will return the results for funny videos, stupid videos, crazy videos, funny movies, stupid movies, crazy movies etc. Get the idea?
Let Google Define It.
You can add “define:” in front of a word and Google will find its definitions from around the Web. Just try searching for define:love and you will see what I mean.

How to Design Your Site

Your website is where your business resides -- it's like the headquarter of an offline company. Hence, it is important to practise good design principles to make sure your site reaches out to the maximum number of visitors and sells to as many people as possible.

Make sure you have clear directions on the navigation of your website. The navigation menu should be uncluttered and concise so that visitors know how to navigate around your website without confusion.

Reduce the number of images on your website. They make your site load very slowly and more often than not they are very unnecessary. If you think any image is essential on your site, make sure you optimize them using image editing programs so that they have a minimum file size.

Keep your text paragraphs at a reasonable length. If a paragraph is too long, you should split it into seperate paragraphs so that the text blocks will not be too big. This is important because a block of text that is too large will deter visitors from reading your content.

Make sure your website complies to web standards at www.w3.org and make sure they are cross-browser compatible. If your website looks great in Internet Explorer but breaks horribly in Firefox and Opera, you will lose out on a lot of prospective visitors.

Avoid using scripting languages on your site unless it is absolutely necessary. Use scripting languages to handle or manipulate data, not to create visual effects on your website. Heavy scripts will slow down the loading time of your site and even crash some browsers. Also, scripts are not supported across all browsers, so some visitors might miss important information because of that.

Use CSS to style your page content because they save alot of work by styling all elements on your website in one go.

Social networks sites has been very common to most people nowadays. I can tell that anyone who knows how to use a computer and the internet is a member of a social network site. Even elementary kids have Friendster accounts and most probably they will ask you, "May friendster ka ba? Add mo naman ako..."

Just look at Friendster, Facebook and Multiply who earn millions of dollars every month. And now Google has joined the social networking game, but in a different approach! A couple of weeks ago, Google announced the launch of Google Friend Connect and has just opened up beta testing to a select number of people. I think this is a big step of Google and will quickly become a contender in this space.

Google Friend Connect is a service that helps website owners grow traffic by enabling any site on the web to easily provide social features for its visitors. With just a few snippets of code, you get more people engaging more deeply with your site. This is one useful tool for bloggers to get more visitors in their site.

Google Friend Connect boasts the following high-level features:

* Attract more visitors to your site - Visitors bring along friends from social networks like Facebook, orkut, and others to interact on your site.

Low de High Minus High de Low : Getting Derivatives from the Internet is born! This blog is about my cool finds in the Internet: websites, softwares, blogs, gadgets, etc.

Low de High Minus High de Low (pronounced as "low-dee-high minus high-dee-low") is a part of a famous mnemonic in getting the derivative of a function that is the quotient of two other functions (a function with numerator and denominator).

About the Name...

The term Low denotes the denominator and High as the numerator. In calculus, this is known as the Quotient Rule. The complete mnemonic translates to "Low times derivative of high minus high times derivative of low all over low squared." You should have met this terms if you have studied elementary calculus! Pretty tough, huh?
