both; text-align: center;">

I wouldn't call my latest experience with them bad, it just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I recently purchased an old vehicle from a friend with the intention to restore it. I paid $500 for the vehicle. It cost me $100 to title it, $51 to register and tag it as historic, and $38.40 at 6% taxes. But that doesn't add up. Six-percent of $500 is $30, not $38.40. $38.40 is six-percent of $640. I asked why I was being charged an extra $8.40 and I was told that $38.40 is the minimum amount that anyone can be charged when registering a vehicle. That 8 bucks and some change seems like a petty amount for me to bitch and moan about, but I worked for that money so it would go to me, not someone else to line their pockets.

So I went to the MVA's website and read the fine print:

Link

"An excise tax will be charged on the basis of 6% of the vehicle's book value or 6% of the purchase price on the notarized "Bill of Sale" for vehicles 7 years old or newer. For older vehicles, the tax is calculated on the purchase price. Maryland's minimum excise tax charged is $38.40, based on a minimum value of $640."

One can only wonder how many other people have been screwed over by the same process. I guess I should feel lucky that I left there only having to pay $198.40. It almost seems criminal to me that they're allowed to do something like that.
Based on police observations, the driver was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol. Police attempted to stop the vehicle near 74th Street; however, the vehicle fled.

Police pursued the vehicle at which time the driver, later identified as Shawn Josef Martin, 29, of Eldersburg, MD, turned into a parking garage on 77th Street. Martin then sped through and exited the garage at which point struck a bush. Police attempted numerous times to have Martin stop; however, he continued to flee driving through several stop signs and traveling at a dangerously high rate of speed. Martin turned back onto Coastal Highway and crossed four lanes of traffic where he lost control and nearly struck the center median. He then turned east onto 79th Street, drove onto the sidewalk and struck a street sign at which time his vehicle stopped. Martin exited his vehicle and attempted to flee the crash scene on foot but was taken into custody shortly after by responding officers. During the on-scene investigation, police confirmed their suspicion that Martin was intoxicated. Officers also noted that there were no injuries during the incident.

Ocean City Police have charged Martin with 49 citations for various reckless/aggressive driving charges. Martin must appear in court for 12 of those citations.

At the time of this release, Martin is being held by the Ocean City Police pending an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

Discover Wicomico County’s Hidden Treasures at the Wicomico Geocache Dash

Salisbury, MD – The Wicomico Geocache Dash & Bash will return to Salisbury for its third year on Friday, June 7 & Saturday, June 8. A Salisbury teen faces charges after he allegedly admitted to having sex with a 12-year-old girl, charging documents state.

Creighton Allen Bowen, 16, who is charged as an adult, faces charges of second-degree rape and third- and fourth-degree sex offense. He and the girl each said in interviews that they had sex and that they knew each other’s ages, charging documents state. A parent observed evidence suggesting her daughter had sex and the police interviews were conducted after that.

He was held on $75,000 bond.

The biggest local story of the week so far has been the arrest of four people in Fruitland for an armed robbery and the connections these kids have to prominent local business people. Why in the world people would make such poor decisions when they have bright promising futures ahead of them is a shock to everyone in the area. They have now put into question those very bright futures with a very poor choice.

Heron Ponds Performer Kellie Pickler Wins DWTS

Jake Day displayed the talent and ability which won him his overwhelming victory in the City elections at yesterday's work session. Jake showed his independent thought process by coming up with an alternative idea to Mayor Ireton's EDU plans.

Mayor Ireton had wanted around up 300 credits for water and sewer connection fees. Jake decided making 100 credits available for downtown projects while leaving the rest for businesses to bring jobs into the City.

This makes great sense since most places near Downtown only use around 50 EDU's and only a couple of parking lots Ireton wants to sell are large enough for a big EDU user. Great job Jake making a compromise which is something we have been lacking for many years.
Narrative: On 19 May 2013 at 2:56 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported 911 hang-up call in the 8800 block of Woodcreek Parkway in Delmar. Upon arrival, the deputy heard what appeared to be yelling and a physical altercation taking place which prompted him to enter the residence through a side door. Upon entering he was approached by a female subject who appeared to have been the victim of an assault. The deputy was told that Terrance Walker, the subject she was having the physical altercation with, was in the rear of the residence. The female subject resided with Walker and the deputy saw signs of injury on the female that corroborated her account. As the deputy made his way to the rear of the residence, he heard a door slam, at which point the deputy exited the residence and encountered a belligerent Walker in the front yard. Walker began yelling “XXXX You and Go XXXX Yourself” at the deputy while reaching into his front pants pocket. The deputy instructed Walker to remove his hand from his pocket to which Walker replied “XXXX You” and threw a bottle of bleach at the deputy. The deputy attempted to place Walker under arrest, but instead he proceeded to run away. The deputy caught Walker at the end of the driveway and had to physically restrain Walker who was actively resisting arrest. Upon arrest, the deputy discovered a knife in Walker’s pants pocket. The deputy transported Walker to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Walker in the Detention Center in lieu of $50,000.00 bond.
