I was diagnosed with COPD (emphysema) in 2008. My numbers have plummeted over the last six years. I have always been on the light side for a man (5 feet, 9 inches and 159 pounds in 1997). Since, I have lost a great deal of weight and have very little appetite, I now weigh 122 pounds. How can I stimulate my appetite, and what is a good way to put on “healthy weight” to prepare for a lung transplant?

I’ve finished chemo, a bilateral mastectomy and radiation for Stage 3 breast cancer. My knees are so sore that walking has become nearly impossible without a cane, one arm has been affected with lymphedema, and I’ve gained 30 pounds from treatment and anti-hormone therapy. I really need help putting together a high protein, low sugar and carbohydrate diet to help me lose weight and increase my activity.

You are not alone in your struggle with weight gain. It is common for patients with breast cancer to gain weight after diagnosis.
