Gone are the days of the busy bedspreads and stale carpet commonly associated with the budget motel. In an effort to revamp their image, Motel 6 is moving from cheap to chic. Budget competitors Red Roof Inns and Super 8 are expected to follow suit. The upgrade, which will be the chains’ first major makeover in a dozen years, will outfit rooms with wood-like flooring, granite countertops, and 32-inch flat screen TV’s.
