It is the place where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama, who as the Buddha Gautama founded the Buddhist tradition. The Buddha lived between roughly 563 and 483 BCE. Lumbini is one of four magnets for pilgrimage that sprang up in places pivotal to the life of the Buddha, the others being at Kushinagar, Bodh Gaya, and Sarnath.
Lumbini is geographically located 25 km east of the municipality of Kapilavastu, Nepa where the Buddha lived until the age of 29. Lumbini has a number of temples, including the Mayadevi temple, and others under construction. Also located here is the Puskarini or Holy Pond where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he, too, had his first bath, as well as the remains of Kapilvastu palace. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, achieved ultimate awakening and finally relinquished earthly form.
The Government of Nepal is all set to launch the Visit Lumbini Year 2012 on January 14 in a bid to spread Gautam Buddha's message of peace across the world and develop the Buddha's birthplace as a peace city and a global Buddhist center.
After the facelift for the monuments and the new additions to the sacred site Lumbini is better prepared than ever to welcome visitors and pilgrims from all over the world. Would you want to be one of them? Well, we predict it’s the musically precocious young singer of the world, Atithi Gautam KC. Having achieved so much at the very juvenile age, this young talent’s budding career shows a great deal of promise and we expect to see much more from her in future.

As she has already made a great stride as a youngest singer, now she is set to make a waves in the ocean of music as an artist launching her album at Mt. Everest. Her second album “Top of the world” is about to launch there. This album is already taken by Khimlal Gautam from Athiti foundation. Along with group, Khimlal is climbing Mt. Everest and at the end; the album will be launched at the peak.

Five different original english tracks are included in her new album. The lyrics are penned by Ghanshyam Khadka and the music is by the chairman of Athiti foundation, Jugal Dangol. Whatever new adventure she takes on, she is sure to success. She has more than proven that already and we think it is only a matter of times before everyone takes notice and remembers the name, Atithi Gautam KC.

Sankhu Jatra Live Broadcast on "Sagarmatha Television".

This delicacy is the chief item on the menu during the post-harvest celebration of Yomari Punhi. On this full moon day, people of the Kathmandu Valley offer worship to Annapurna, the goddess of grains, for the rice harvest. Groups of kids go neighborhood to beg yomari cakes from housewives in the evening. Sacred masked dances are performed in the villages of Hari Siddhi and Thecho at the southern end of the Valley to mark the festival.
The Newars, upon munching a mouthful of yomari, a sweet dish, await the end of their four days of devotion of god, following which they will be blessed with wealth, according to their belief. The people prepare yomaris, in the form of gods and goddesses such as Kumar, Ganesh, Laxmi and Kuber. In keeping with the culture, parents bless children from two to twelve years who are then offered yomaris. The children on the other hand perform the customary song and dance and ask for food and other gifts from the elders during the festival.
The festival is said to have started from panchal nagar(present day Panauti). Myth has it that Suchandra and Krita, a married couple, first experimented with fresh yield of rice from their field. And what took shape turned out came to be known as yomari. The new delicacy was eventually distributed among the villagers. As the food was liked by all, the bread was named yomari, which literally means 'tasty bread'. The myth further states that on the same day the couple offered the god of wealth, Kuber, the new delicacy, who was passing by in a disguise. Following this Kuber disclosed , his real identity and blessed the couple with wealth. He also declared that whoever will prepare yomari in the form of gods and goddesses on the full moon of December and observe four days of devotion to god, will get rid of poverty. The festival is celebrated on the second day when prayers are offered during which the yomaris are stored and not eaten on that very day. On the fourth and the final day the people belonging to the Newar community consume the sweet bread as a gift from gods and this practise also marks the end of the festival.

Teej Festival has started..

Teej gives a chance to women to express their love and devotion for their husband who in return present beautiful gifts to their wife as a token of love.

Significance of Teej

Rooted deep in Indian religious and cultural ethos - Teej plays a significant role in defining the true nature of relationship between a married couple. Besides, the festival provides much needed break to womenfolk from their daily household drudgery. Find out how Teej is significant in these and more ways to the women in India.

Religious Significance of Teej
Religious significance of Teej festival lies in devotion of Goddess Parvati for her husband Lord Shiva. It was on this day that the divine couple Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati reunited with each other after hundreds of years. Even today womenfolk commemorate this mythological event by observing 'Nirjara Vrat' for the well-being and long-life of their husband.

Climatic Significance
Teej celebrates the advent of monsoon season. Teej coincides with monsoon season and thus create a greater impact for its celebration. Taking full advantage of the beautiful climate at this time women enjoy themselves by swinging, singing and dancing in rain.

Break from Daily Humdrum of Life
Teej celebration has great significance for womenfolk as it gives them their much needed break from the daily humdrum of life. For married women it also brings a chance to visit their parents house and relive childhood memories. No wonder, women celebrate the festival with great mirth and enthusiasm. They pay special attention to their appearance and deck themselves in beautiful clothes and fine jewelry. Women also apply intricate patterns of mehndi on their hands and feet.

Strengthening Relationships
One of the foremost significance of Teej is that it helps in strengthening relationship between married couples. Women who observe fast for the long life of their husband in earnest devotion feel closer and more committed to their husband. While watching their wife straining themselves, husbands feel more special. They reciprocate by being more loving and caring towards their wife. Husbands usually express themselves by presenting gifts to their wife and being more sensitive towards their doting wives.

SLC results out; 64.31 percent pass

India still remain the favourites having won all their matches. They face Nepal in their next Round Robin fixture. The top two teams play the finals.
Nepal Chief-de-mission Hari Babu Chaudhary, Nepal Olympic Committee General Secretary Jeewan Ram Shrestha and All Nepal Football Association president Ganesh Thapa all were elated with Nepal's performance and wasted no time in congratulating the players and wishing them luck for their next big encounter.
Jamuna Gurung scored a hat-trick in today's empathic win, hitting the back of the net on 46th, 57th and 62nd minute. The others on the mark were Anu Lama (33rd and 40th minutes), Sajana Rana (39th), Laxmi Paudel (82nd) and Ranjana Darji (83rd).
Nepal had such control of the game that their goalkeeper and the defenders remained mute spectators throughout. But contrary to what the score line suggested, Nepal struggled to find their rhythm in the first 10 minutes but once they did, they never turned back as they ended up scoring the highest number of goals in international football, both in men's and women's, categories in the history of Nepali football.
Nepal coach Dhurba K.C. was speechless after the win. He said that his girls made for the best outfit in the event. “Going by today's performance, I can count on my attacking frontline. The Langtang Gosaikunda lies directly north of Kathmandu on the border with Tibet. Though easily accessible and only a day’s drive from Kathmandu, the Lagtang region remains a relatively less trekked area. Here the mountainscape is spectacular. On either side of valley, mountains rise, soaring into the sky. The walk-in is picturesque, with untouched forests and abundant flora and fauna. Langur monkeys and Ghoral are easily spotted along the stream, while Himalayan Thar dot the cliffs on high.

Passing through the traditional Tamang villages and age-old forests of rhododendron trees with spectacular views behind us, we finally reach the Holy lakes of Gosaikunda where every year thousands of Hindu pilgrims come to visit the lake in the month of August. The Langtang Gosaikunda trek passes over the Laurebina Pass at an altitude of 4625 meters with a view into Tibet that is simply breathtaking.

Gosaikunda is a lake in Nepal in Rasuwa district that is the site of regular Hindu pilgrimage.
