The Knights came back to make the score 8-4 and had the bases loaded with their number two hitter, Adam, up. Unfortunately, he flew out to end the threat, which was the Knights best chance to catch up.

1/20/11 — We won 34-14 against Brooklyn Friends. They played tough for the first 2 quarters, putting a scare in us after our defeat against VCS. We pulled ahead in the 3rd quarter, and left them scoreless in the 4th. Lizzy injured herself in this game, and had to sit out our game yesterday (though, as you can imagine, Lizzy makes a great assistant for me and Gabrielle).

Yesterday we played Bank Street at their gym. They had a huge crowd, and a very loud coach. At halftime we were down by 2 points. It was a very close game, and the score didn’t reach double-digits until the 3rd quarter. By the end of the third quarter we were tied, 12-12. Anna and Ally had a burst of energy, scoring 6 and 4 respectively. Our defense was impeccable, and everybody present contributed to this (Anna, Sara, Naomi, Odelia, Charlotte, Ally, Juno, Hannah). We won 24-22!

Our next game, after the spirit game this Friday is at home against Dwight (January 31st, 4pm). Please come and support!

The varsity Girls moved to 5-0 in the Big Apple Conference and took sole possesion of first place. Recaps are below:

Thursday December 10, 2010

Last week on Thursday afternoon, the Lady Knights were visiting Steiner @ pace University. Our Knights had a tough time from the beginning to the end of the game. Steiner played a real aggressive person to person defense. After so many fouls and injured player The Lady Knights pulled out yet another victory 19-14. We had Seven players score and Amyrah playing the best defense in the league held there best player to one point in the second half of the game.

Monday December 13,2010
On Monday the Lady Knights played a very good Churchill team. Again the girls started and ended each game with defense. After a close first half 17 (Churchill)- 21(LREI). The Lady Knights took over allowing the Churchill to score four points in sixteen minutes. The Final score 41(LREI)- 21(Churchill). We were lead by six different players scoring in the game. Emily our Senior Guard had 12 points, Sophomore swing sensation Lily Gavin 9 points and also two guard Jacey Mossack had 8 points, Senior Forwards Hannah Root and Claire Hart had 4 points apiece and Sophomore Surayya Diggs had 2. Our team scores in many different ways but we also have great Defenders Anna Goldstein, Amyrah and Hayley Schear. These girls are cutting off passing lanes and and putting pressure on the ball for turnovers.

Wednesday December 15, 2010
On Wednesday we played LFNY, and again our team was speared by unbelievable defense. The first half was 14(LREI)- 17(LFNY). However, Amyrah and Hayley played the ball on every pass those two young ladies combined forced 14 turnovers. This allowed our offense to explode for 21 points in the second half and hold LFNY to 4 points. Final score 35(LREI)- 21(LFNY). Again we had six Knights score Emily Wilson with 13 points three 3’s, Anna, Jacey and lily our sophomore sensation each had 5 points, another sophomore Hayley had 4 points. Our heavy interior defenders Hannah Root had eight rebounds two blocks and Claire with her great foot work on the block score 4 points and 5 rebounds. These young ladies are working so hard that teams cant believe how well they are being defend and really don’t have answer for our offense.

The LREI JV basketball team won Tuesday against their opponent Churchill (2-2), 57-51. The win comes off a tough road loss to league leader, Rudolf Steiner (4-0) 35-57.

The Knights, led by Freshman point guard Noel Diggs (14 points), dominated the tempo of the second-half, outscoring Churchill 41- 21. Defensively, the Knights were led by strong play from both Adam Kester, who drew two charges against the Churchill offense, and Josh Wilson, who’s physical play led to multiple rebounds. The entire defensive unit clamped down Churchill’s scorers, and did not allow a basket to be scored during a five-minute stretch between the third and fourth quarter.

With the win, LREI improves their league standings to (1-2), and enjoys a long break before starting play again after winter vacation.
