Knights Win in Volleyball, Cross-Country

Wednesday was a huge night for LREI Athletics! The middle school volleyball team defeated the Churchill School 2-0 to become the Independent School Athletic League Champions. Thompson Street Gym was packed with LREI students and families (even red pom-pom shakers on the sidelines!) rooting the team to victory. Click here for photos from the match.

Uptown at Van Cortlandt Park, the middle and high school cross-country teams took home two first-place finishes in the AIPSL Big Apple Championship meet. Eighth grader Will Yarinsky is the middle school boys champion with a time of 11:14, and junior Sasha Stomberg is the high school girls champion winning the competition in 22:24. Both high school teams scored second place overall. Notable finishes on the boys’ side include junior Niles Diggs (6^th), freshman Lenny Weissman (8^th) and senior Monty Hill (9^th). Seniors Margret Wiggins, Claire Hart and Sonrisa Murray-Fox crossed the girls race finish line seventh, ninth and tenth place, respectively. Congrats to all our Knights for outstanding season finishes!

Knights Volleyball Wins Opener

In their home season opener, as well as first league match, the Knights Volleyball team dominated over rival Dwight in two straight games with scores of 25-20, 25-19 respectively. The team was led by Meiling Jabaar with 7 kills, 7 digs and 6 aces; Hayley Shear added strong serving with 3 aces and 5 kills; Senior Captain setters Marissa (3 kills, 6 assists, and 3 aces) and Fallon (5 assists) both carried the team with solid play.

The LREI school year kicks off on Tuesday, September 7. For all of your child’s back-to-school info, please refer to the packet mailed to you. (Each grade/division’s first day is different. That’s just how we do things at LREI!)

We’re excited to see you soon, and hear all about your summer adventures.

LREI seniors graduated with a special ceremony at NYU’s Skirball Center on Friday, June 11. Kevin Schneck and Diana Festa spoke on behalf of the student body. Guests also enjoyed performances by the LREI high school jazz ensemble (“What I Would Have Done For You” composed by Harry D’Agostino ’10) and the Elisabeth Irwin Singers.

But before donning their caps and gowns, LREI seniors had to complete independent study projects and present them to the school. This is an annual tradition rooted in LREI’s mission to raise active thinkers and lifelong learners.
