Friendship

In the Mitta Sutta, or discourse on friends, the Buddha tells his monks
to seek out friends with these seven qualities:
"Giving what is hard to give.
Doing what is hard to do.
Enduring what is hard to endure.
Revealing their secrets to you.
Keeping your secrets.
When misfortunes strike, you are not abandoned.
When down and out, you are not looked down upon."

Friendship is a way in which we experience empathy. Sometimes our perspective and life origins make this easy, we are similar and can relate to that which is like the self. This can be on a superficial level according to appearances, profession, heritage, religion, age, gender, or social status. But these distinguishing factors can be dissolved so that we can see any person as a friend based solely on their being. Kindness can be extended to all people, even to those who have not earned this respect.

When we expand this openness we first must be certain we are treating Our self as a friend. Do not abandon You in difficult times. Stay true to your values when tested. Give what is hard to give.

It is possible to view the entire world as a 'friend'. We can all find that gift within. From this place there is no separateness, there are no categories to fill. Your Being is compatible with everything, the trees, fresh air, all the animals, stars, and sea.
This is our earthly friendship, it is One Ship.

In mythology the Falcon often represents God;

having an ability to see everything at once, being a protective guardian, and a taker of souls.

I love birds and have had the honor of rehabilitating birds of prey,

Falcons, Hawks, Kestrels, Owls,

and even one Golden Eagle.

It is a gift that I will never forget.

When a bird begins to recover there is a crucial time when you must be

certain their prey is not stronger than they. The bird is possibly well enough to begin

eating on their own again, but you must know if

they have the ability to kill, or the rodent might harm the bird.

A Falcon I was caring for seemed healthy enough,

but I was not quite certain.

As I was inside the aviary observing its' strength,

I leaned forward, neck exposed, and in that moment I was pierced

by two penetrating eyes. My blood raced with fear. Overtaken by the acute sense that

I was prey. My jugular vein froze, paralyzed with vulnerability, heart stunned,

I knew this bird could take a mouse.

Goddess of Infinite Mercy and Compassion

"One who Listens to the cries and suffering of the World"

The divine cosmic deity, the bodhisattva, Kuan Yin, venerated for

her Compassion & Infinite Mercy.

She exemplifies Karuṇā, a love for all beings, one of the four divine abodes in Buddhism.

"Karuṇā that which makes the heart of the good move at the pain of others.

It crushes and destroys the pain of others; thus, it is called compassion. It is called compassion because it shelters and embraces the distressed."

Kuan Yin is believed to give assistance in this world, providing earthly blessings of children, health and Life. She represents the unlimited compassion each of us can give to ourselves and others. It is always possible, no matter the situation, to give mercy, compassion, and Love.

October 15th Ω Enlightenment of Kuan Yin

ps. the white parrot is Kuan Yin's disciple and was popularly depicted in art

during the Tang Dynasty. The story as told, One day the baby bird sought to find his mother's favorite food, while searching, it instead was captured by poachers. When the bird was finally able to escape and return to its' mother, he found her dead. The bird grieved this loss, and in her honor, provides a funeral. The white parrot then flies to Kuan Yin.
