A quick note about Scout

Scout is broken. If you're using it, you probably know this already. A change to the Basecamp API has made it sad. We're working with our friends at 37signals on making it all work again, so hopefully it will all be better soon.

Coastr relaunched

Everyone's favorite (ok, my favorite) Web 2.0 beer-sharing site has gotten a facelift and some new features. Read more about it over at the Coastr Blog or just head over there.

Scout now available for download

It's here. Just so you don't think we just made up the screencast. It's definitely still a work-in-progress, so give us feedback.

The skinny, version 0.9:

Requires .NET 2.0 and a Tablet PC (or XP with the TabletPC SDK and recognizer pack installed). Tested with a Motion LS 800. Let us know if yours makes Scout suck.

Landscape mode rocks. Portrait mode, not so much.

Handwriting recognition lets you jot down new to-do items, read and post messages and comments, see upcoming milestones, and more.

Messages can optionally include a freehand sketch, which will be uploaded as .jpg attachment to the message.

Simple ink gestures to easily reorder to-do items (just write in a new number for the item), and to mark them as complete or incomplete (just draw a quick checkmark or circle or square).

Uses IE proxy settings by default. Or use the Settings dialog to enter your own proxy url if you're behind a corporate firewall.

Enough already. Download it.

Scout: Tablet PC Basecamp

We love Basecamp. Despite the fact it's from Microsoft (snicker), we think the Tablet PC is pretty sweet too. One fateful day, Jeff and I were coding away at our day jobs (where, not coincidentally, we develop Tablet PC apps)...

"You got your Basecamp in my Tablet PC!"

"You got your Tablet PC in my Basecamp!"

And Scout was born.

Words are boring. Watch it (screencast, 4 minutes) instead.

We're just putting the finishing touches on it. It'll be available for download here soon - and in addition, we'll be making our Basecamp API wrapper for .NET 2.0 available too.

Introducing Luckymonk

Luckymonk is a tiny little company. It's actually even smaller than it looks, because we also have full-time jobs.

Sometimes it doesn't make sense to quit your job to start your own company. Especially when you're like us and have wives and kids and dogs and all that good stuff. So why Luckymonk? Because we love technology and the web and have lots of ideas. And we want to share them. And by the off-chance that one of said ideas actually begins to fund our dog food purchases, we might reconsider the whole part-time thing.

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy watching us fumble around, trying to make that happen.
