Most people know only one type of income and they miss out opportunities of a lifetime. It would be good to know about them and to be aware which is more effective. That way, your efforts do not go to waste but will be meaningful.

TWO TYPES OF INCOME

1. Active Income

This income requires physical effort to earn money. Every time you earn this type of income it means YOU WORK FOR MONEY.

Examples would be working as an employee or owning a small business. You need to be physically present to earn. Most people have this type of income.

2. Passive Income (Inactive Income)

Only a few people have this type of income. If you have this it means MONEY WORKS FOR YOU.

Examples would be invesing in stocks, real estate or owning a big business.

Most rich people teach their children to have both types of income. They may start with the first one then have both. When some of them retire, they only have the second one. Some would continue to have both but more on the second.

I have friends who were raised by businessmen and are aware of the two types of income since childhood. While they go to school, they know which type of income they make sure to have. On the other hand, I also have friends who were raised by employees just like me. Some of them are aware but most do not. I am lucky my parents do invest. Most of us go to school and make sure to have active income.

Now you know about the two types of income. This will serve as a guide on how you will spend your time and effort so you get the type of income you want.

How to Have Discipline in Getting Control of Your Finances

"Knowing what to do and doing what you know are worlds apart." This was one of the lines that I love when I was under business training. There are things that we know are the right things to do but we find it hard to follow. A perfect example is to save or invest. We tend to spend more on things that we don't need and we feel guilty after reflecting that we shouldn't have done the purchase. Also, if you are a person that already has a discipline of getting control with your finances and you want others like your loved ones and friends to do what you do, you notice that they agree with the idea but find it hard to do. And that makes you frustrated. I would like to share some of the factors that affect behavior and ways that you can do to really do what you know is the right thing to do. This does not only apply to getting control of your finances but to other disciplines as well. Let us begin by defining discipline first before we go deeper.

Discipline and Practices

A discipline is composed of practices that a disciple would undergo to become a master. We sometimes ask,"Are you practicing your profession?" What we are trying to ask is does the person's current job related to the profession that she studied in college. This is the case most of the time. Thus, an engineer first have undergone the discipleship of engineering as a student in a university and know more of the practices of that field.

I've also encountered how some people define true discipline. They said you can observe that when a child is playing. The child is very disciplined because nothing will distract him when he puts his heart in the game - not even his mother trying to make him eat at lunch time. Therefore, it takes extreme desire to create laser focus to be successful in a discipline.

Now that we have defined the context of some important terms, we can now proceed deeper.

What Affects Behavior

1. The Deepness of Purpose. "You need to have a reason that is greater than reality." This is what the author Robert Kiyosaki said in his book Rich Dad Poor Dad if you want to have control with your finances. What is your purpose in getting control of your finances? How deep is it? What would you lose if you don't get control of your finances? If a person doesn't have a purpose, he would really have a hard time to do it. And it's perfectly fine. Sometimes, it really takes a life-turning event before a person will see a purpose of a new discipline. It's the same as to how a child gets motivated in buying a new toy. Either the child saw a commercial or he saw it from his classmate. He wants to have it, too. Now he is focused how he can make his parents buy that toy and he feels deep frustration when he doesn't get what he wants. Therefore, don't feel guilty if there is something that you know you should be doing and you find it hard to do. Since we are in the subject of getting control with your finances, here are a few ways you can consider to trigger your deep purpose in taking action:

Remember the most painful time you experienced with money like being in debt big time or you wanted to buy something. It would also help to know the same experiences from people closest to you. There is a degree of truth that pain is a great motivator. It's the same that leaders emerge in critical times.
If pain motivation will not work for you, the reward system might work. If you don't have painful experiences regarding money, what was the happiest? And if you can increase your standard of living, how will it be? Increasing your expenses will also create deep desire in you to improve your financial situation.

2. The Comfort Level of the Environment. One of my business mentors have observed that when Filipinos are residing abroad they tend to be very competitive and the opposite happens when they come back to our country. He said that there might be something in the air in our country that when our countrymen breathe it they transform into a lax person. It's almost the same with my observation working in Metro Manila versus in Davao City. I tend to have a slow pace when I was in the latter than in the previous. Below are a few suggestions on what you can do:

You may have the option to reside in very competitive place. If not, you can try a long vacation so that you will have more time to immerse in a fast-paced environment.
If you have the appetite to be a trend-setter, start a small project that you think would help spark improvements in your local community.

3. The People You are Always With. "Communication fuels action," is what John Maxwell said in his 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork. Our words does affect how we act and the people we surround ourselves with contribute as well.

Give more time to people that you think that would help you grow.
Find a support group.

There are a lot more things that affects your behavior when you try to start a new discipline like habitual and thinking patterns or the people that you look up to. Those presented above are just enough to stir your awareness. And if you find yourself getting more serious about pursuing a discipline, you will notice you can find your own way in finding the answers that is fit for you.

Start Your Discipline in Getting Control of Your Finances

For those who are now serious to take their financial situation to another level, the next are a few things you can do:

1. Find a formula that fits your style. I believe in the saying,"Different strokes for different folks." It would also be good to copy a formula then just improve a few things so it would fit your style better.

2. The Role Model. A mentor or someone successful would be a good role model to look up to. If they have books, read them and try copy their thinking patterns in the challenges that they encountered.

3. Support Group. If you cannot find a support group, at least find someone that would support you with your endeavor.

Event versus Process

As you finish this article, you are completing an important event in your life. This may motivate you in taking action but it takes a process to create a result. There will be a process that will happen. It will be either taking action or no action in getting control with your finances. Observe your results and if you don't like it, you can either complain and get stuck or improve better and be happier.

The 3 Investment Plans

One of the formulas that I follow in Rich Dad's: Guide to Investing is the 3 investment plans. I follow it because it matches my reasons for investing. They are as follows:

1. Security Plan - Plan to be secure. I'm good with a cashflow of around 20 to 30k per month and feel secure.

2. Comfort Plan - Or plan to be comfortable. It is true that it's a longer process in deciding what level of comfort you want to have especially if you are used with an environment that is focused on security. It is advised that both secure and comfort plans are no-brainers.

3. To be Rich Plan - As of the moment the clear picture that I have for this plan is small real estate investing and also my part time business before in network distribution.

At the age of 27 I tried to practice this investment plan. I wrote the plan and followed it. Then something more exciting and challenging came my way. Because I didn't have much experience and education in business and investing before, I tucked the plan and created a new plan. After 4 years of business and investing with the new plan, I realized the original plan was still better. The good news is I grew as a leader and a better businessman and investor. Those years wasn't wasted. And I'm happy that I am more determined to follow my original plan.

Just a few months ago I met some new friends. They also want to start businesses. When I advised them about my mistakes and why having a conservative plan is better, they don't seem that convinced. Then I realized I was also not that convinced with my original plan before. Then I accepted that my friends would be better off gain more experience and education in business and find their own formulas as I have found mine.

I will never forget those words from my beloved mentor. Sometimes, when failure after failure happens to you, you lose confidence and lose power. I felt so powerless most of the time for the last few months. And I am happy to have regained strength and confidence at present.

"When you hit rock bottom, there's no other way but up."-business mentor

I felt I've hit rock bottom again. I felt lost. I'm not quite sure how I regained balance. I guess I just believed that someday I can recover from depression. I looked for what worked for me before.

"I'm a great leader. I'm a great salesman. I'm a great negotiator."

"I think therefore I am," were the philosopher's words. It worked for me before. It should work for me again. And I'm very much happy that it really did.

At present I'm currently working and just got certified. Happy to be earning money and gaining experience and education as well. Also happy to be able to invest again. I planned my way through. Believed in myself. Put everything I got. And got luckier as I work harder. I continue to push myself and take time to be happy with what I do and get motivation and drive from my investments plan for the future. I hope everything are great for you, too!

If we abolish customs in PH

"Why do we have that bureau of customs anyway?"I asked in an aggressive tone. "It's to protect the products of our countrymen. We don't want our people to buy only imported goods. We need to encourage them in buying our own products," answered my good friend. We were in a business meeting and discussing about what new business to start.

I think it's a very ridiculous reason. If our products are not sold, it's not the fault of the consumers. Simply, our products don't really add value to our consumers. Then why should we buy them? Just to have better tax collections?

If we abolish customs in PH there can be advantages. We can import products with less maintenance and will have better profits and better tax collections. There may be some sector that would be negatively affected and would need to be taken into consideration as well.

The good news is some people in the government are now thinking out of the box. And of course there are still people who react immediately even if it's not implemented. It's also normal as well since we are only humans and most people are programmed that way. It's also good to know that a few of th

em also are open to the idea. With what happened, I remember one of our practices in a business community before about listing ridiculous ideas just to raise money. It really helps a lot to just to list down everything first whatever comes to mind no matter how stupid ideas are.

Ultimately, having the customs or not only have little effect. It's our practices that would determine the improvement. Also, the wisdom behind this option is yet to be established. Thus, we can never really say if it will work or not unless we try.

The Beauty of a Type 5 Person

IN EVERY Stage of our lives, we experience either being free or not. There are times when we can do whatever we want to do. And there are also times where we can't do what we love the most. There are many definitions of freedom. Two of them are money and time freedom.

"There is no true freedom if there is no financial freedom." - Rich Dad

One of my business mentors shared about the beauty of a type 5 person. It was the type he wanted to be when he haven't yet considered himself being financially free. Then he shared all of the types. They are as follows:

Type 1 - No Time with a lot of Money.

These people are the self-employed and professionals. Most doctors, lawyers and small business owners are included in this type of person. My mentor said it's ok to be type 1. Just don't complain of not having time.

Type 2 - A lot of Time with No Money.

Most of these people are bum. Either they are just lazy or didn't have the opportunity that they have been looking for. My mentor said this is better than type 1 since you can do a lot and it's ok to be like this. Still, just don't complain of not having money.

Type 3 - No Time and Money.

These are generally employees. He said that he really respect these people. He joked that they must be really spiritual. They sacrifice so much both time and money.

Type 4 - A lot of Time and Money. They are also Old.

These people are retirees and some of them used to be type 1. He said he might ended up with this type if he didn't look for an alternative aside from his traditional fashion business.

Type 5 - A lot of Time and Money. They are also Young.

These people are either in inventors of today and some of those who are in distributorship business. This was what my mentor wanted really to be.

Now my mentor is enjoying his life of being financially free. He is more than 50 years old but he moves and looks like only 25. He loves dancing and we really enjoy it when he gives presentations and special training. Most of us really attend since we know it's really fun, informative and full of energy.

It is ok to be whatever type of person you want to be. Nobody should decide for you. It's your decision and people should respect it. Also, being type 5 is not instant. You will undergo being type 1, 3 or both. It takes a process. Even if you are type 4, there is a way to be type 5. I hope this message gave you a beautiful insight today.

Why Aim for Promotion

When I decided to be full time in business, I didn't have the chance to be promoted. I was young in business. I was arrogant. I believed I can do whatever I set my mind to. "I don't need to be promoted," I always say to myself. After 4 years of solid business endeavors, I realized the beauty of achieving it. There were moments of regret and pain. True failure only happens when you learn nothing. Knowing what is missing in the formula is like the rainbow after the rain.

"The world only listens to results," our mentors always say. I strived for results in my MLM business. When I got the track record, my leadership influence increased. When people hear that I have sold over a million worth of products my words begin to matter. It is true that people listens to those who have achievements. Even I experienced in listening only to someone who had results.

Why aim for promotion? Why bother think about it? In my world, only a few strive for promotion. Though I observed a lot get envious when somebody gets it. If you haven't thought about getting promotion, it's perfectly fine. If you did get a bit jealous with your colleague who got promoted, it is normal. Humans will always have competitive nature. If getting a promotion will benefit you today or your plans for tomorrow, consider planning for it. Consider the following reasons of getting promotion of other people if they match yours:

1. SELF-WORTH

Some people will only feel appreciated when they get promoted. This is good for someone who gets positive vibes by being acknowledged.

2. INCREASED INCOME

Usually, this is the first motivation of most people. They think of buying new things or need more money for expenses.

3. CONTROL

People can have more control when they are in higher positions. Some of this people are sick of the current management and believes if they are in the position, they can create better change.

4. EXPERIENCE

This is one of my reasons why I want to be promoted. I would like to have more experience in handling people.

5. TRACK RECORD

And this is the second of the main reasons that motivate me. I wanted to build more businesses in the future. Having a better track record would be easier to get the right partners and investors.

Whatever reason you have to get promoted, always check if it is in sync with your plans. I also believe to what a previous client said to us in a business meeting: "Don't believe in everything that other people say. Just listen to them and check if what they say would improve your plan. Earning more in Sari-sari(Small Retailing) Store

My mother has a small retailing store. It sells different consumer commodities. The sales was great yesterday. That is why I was thinking how to earn more.

I noticed today the chips still didn't sell. I was thinking of giving promo or discounts. How can we sell them more quickly. Cash is still king. No matter how big the mark up is but if it doesn't sell fast, it doesn't matter.

The other day, mother posted a poster that says cigarettes are now available. I noticed sales did great. That's when I was thinking if we could get more attention by posting different promos. I think it's OK to cut prices as long as consumers buy continuously. The goal is to hasten the return.

My recommendation, therefore, is add some strategies in marketing. Other things that I also thought about is giving tokens of appreciation to frequent customers. It would be great to know what happen if we implement them.

Japan will support PH

It's great to know that Japan's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida that his country will have deeper relationship with the Philippines. Great things can happen when nations work together.

Japan will also help in strengthening marine capabilities in our country. It's nice to have a friend country. I also notice a lot of Koreans in the country. It would be great if they will be our close friend as well.

We can look forward for more progress in our country.

Learning from Steve Jobs Quote - Let People Decide

Maybe you experienced one time in your life saying"If only my boss would let me decide in my work, the company would be more productive." Or are you the kind of person who is afraid of deciding on your own? You may have also experienced in your life of being afraid to make a mistake. Why is it that sometimes we are afraid to decide?

Most people really love to give advises. A lot are not aware that some people hate receiving unsolicited advises. I know some people who do not have the confidence in deciding for themselves. It's as if they are scared of being accountable of their decisions. They are scared of being blamed, screwing things, getting fired or getting scold. While these things are normal, the problem is they may have undesirable consequences if an individual develops more hesitancy and accumulate fear of failure. The worst is people develop self-doubt and lose confidence.

The reasons above make me feel that we need to be aware of our contributions in developing self-doubt to the people around us. Here are a few guidelines that I follow:

1. Ask and listen instead of giving unsolicited advise - When somebody asks me for advise, I first ask them what is the most important thing to them. I'm very cautious right now in giving advises. My experience is people get to be too dependent when you give them advises and solutions always. I prefer in helping them find the solution that they want to do and they confidently feel would work for them.

2. Only work with the willing - Most especially if you do not have a lot of experience in leading and managing people. We love to change people. You can save yourself heartaches if you only work with the willing.

3. Delegate decision making - To delegate tasks is necessary. But be sure to have people that you will be delegating decision making. You will burn yourself out if you do not upgrade yourself in delegating decision making. It's easier to have partners that can decide than partners that will remain followers forever.

The guidelines above is not for everybody though. There are prerequisites before they become authentic and efficient. The prerequisite is experiencing that doing the opposite of those guidelines is less efficient. When a person have not yet experienced that, he will not understand the importance of the above guidelines. If you haven't yet experienced this inefficiency, don't worry. Being aware about this is already a great leap. Just be sure to notice this in your surrounding and try something. Do not try this if making a mistake has too much at stake. Only make small mistakes first. So only develop experience with easy tasks. Aim high, but start small.

If you are not very confident with yourself as of the moment especially if you do not have experience, always have a buddy. The important thing is take action.

Realization after doing the CEO Files

After reading the Tribal Leadership book, I hated myself in creating the CEO Files. Then I realized I guess it was part of the process. The CEO Files is more like someone who knows he has skills and wants to share it. In tribal leadership there is tribal pride. The CEO File is more like somebody's pride. When I understand deeper tribal leadership, individual's pride is necessary before being part of a tribe and feel the tribe's pride.

I seem to don't like to use the title anymore. I guess I'm done with being a superstar. My instincts always look for just what works and get done with it. So, what now?

What is the contribution of blogging? What is the contribution of writing? Is it just a display of opinion? I like the thing that I heard from Coca-Cola. They wanted to "provoke" conversations. Since communication fuels action, I guess blogging can still be useful. Only, I feel, when I'm blogging, it's a one way communication. How will I be able to collaborate with a group or individuals through my blogs?

I guess the best way is to tackle a certain issue. What is the problem? Then I can communicate with individuals who also want to solve the issue. What issue will I take on? Or rather, what tribe should I join to tackle together an issue?

I think this is the best way to do as of the moment.

Stephanie Nicole Ella Case: What can we do with this celebratory gunfire during New Year's Eve

Just watched the news today and again the News about the little girl who died because of celebratory gunfire during New Year's Eve. Sad faces of her classmates were shown because they miss their friend who loves to have fun. I guess she's a very upbeat and positive girl.

She has a little brother that is so young and her parents don't know how to explain to him that his sister is gone. It really cuts my heart while watching this.

I remember the things I learned when we did our animation business last year. We learned something about tribal leadership. I was thinking about this while watching the news. I'm asking myself who is to blame with this issue.

Since I'm practicing not to blame people, I started to think about this in a different perspective. I based the perspective in the things I learned in tribal leadership. The problem roots in the culture. It's not necessarily the Filipino culture but the culture of human beings in general.

The people who do criminal acts, suicide, neglect the value of life and so on can be in the same culture based on tribal leadership (Google search Tribal Leadership Book and you can download free ebook to know more). Do we blame them for having this kind of culture? They may have their contributions for having this kind of culture and of course we also do have our share of contribution.

The recommendation of the book is to help this people upgrade their culture to a better one. The culture that they have as of the moment is ''life sucks" culture. They see happy people as just pretending to be happy. The assume that happy people also have a miserable life and they just pretend to be ok with their lives. That is why, people in this state do not value life.

To upgrade the culture, it takes steps and a process. It would probably take a long time. And it doesn't work to everybody. Only to the people who are willing to improve their culture and lives can it work. Knowing this, I began to reflect more: what little things can I and a few people do? After understanding a bit about these people, what can we do?

I guess I can only start with the people around me. Just like the saying think globally and work locally. And maybe if the circle grows, we could influence more people and share the successes. It would be great that not only the government will take the initiative in doing something.

I Decided to Grow as a Person through Business

I value personal growth. I value gaining wisdom. I also value in making them work. I will be 32 in March. How is my growth? Did I really grow? What has changed?

It all started when I read a business book. I was empowered and scared at the same time. The book had a prediction of stock market crash. It also gives basic knowledge in financial literacy. The projection of the crash did happen like the book said. I'm a little informed about investment and business. But I wasn't yet full out.

I started to fear of getting broke when I get old. I was determined to learn and take action immediately. That decision created bad and good experiences.

The very first major business I did was with my family. Or at least I think I was involved in that business. It was initiated by my mother. We converted a house into a rental property. We had a heated argument and that pushed me to take leadership seriously.

The last business that I was involved last year was animation. I got very disappointed with myself and our team. I'm still happy for the experience and I learned a lot.

I met one of my very first business coaches. "Fix your life" was one of the lines that struck me when we get to talk again. It really stuck in my head. Yes, it's time to really review the actions I did and plan the next navigation.

As of the moment, I'm taking things slow. I'm happy to spend time with my family again. I'll plan with them and hopefully make things better this time.

What will 2013 be?

WENT HOME TO Davao for Christmas and New Year. Got here last December 16, 2012. It's been 6 to 7 years that I haven't spent Christmas and New Year with my family. It's great to be here.

It's been 4 years doing only business. It was a great experience and learning. I'm now reviewing all of my plans. Excited to make it all happen.

CEO File #8: The "I'm great, and you are not" disease

Do I still have the "I'm great, and you are not" disease? I was just reading the Tribal Leadership and I got myself thinking. Do I genuinely want to help others? Or do I still have my own agenda? Do I really promote teamwork or do I still want to look good surrounded by people listening to me?

I'm not yet finished with the book but I'm happy to know that really sometimes you get back to your little self then to your big self again then little then big and so on and so forth. And it is just normal since we are humans. We are not mechanical robots that can be programmed and act consistently. Now that was a relief.

If you would notice, this is the first CEO File with more than 2 words. This is so because I think this is one of the important things we need to remember as members of a team. And actually, I'm observing right now my own words in writing this article. This is to know if I still have the disease that I mentioned in the 1st paragraph. Yes, I'm still in the process of growing. And I will always make a point of always growing. Even if I will get to know more the best me, I know it's actually limitless. And I believe it's the case of everybody.

The practice to get rid of the disease is using the word "we" instead of "I" and "me." The disease will always comeback and actually, at times, we need it. This is not called the disease, by the way, in the book. I just call it that way so I can avoid it and would only use it if necessary. That is the key to this whole mastery. If you are able to shift levels and still you are aware of yourself, you just embodied the master to being a tribal leader.

I'm not sure if I'm saying this clearly but I think it would also be hard to explain everything here. I would invite you to buy the book Tribal Leadership by Dave Logan and others if you wish to understand more. I guess I'll just share to you the basic levels and they are as follows:

1. "life sucks." This is the level of what we know as people with victim mindsets. Everyone of us undergoes this stage. And the book says, we really undergo all of the stages.

2. "my life sucks." Now this is a behavior different from the 1st. The person sees others have better lives and his is not. The above behavior is although he may see that other people have better lives but he believes they are just pretending to have better lives."Life sucks" means no hope."My life sucks" means there is some hope.

3. "i'm great." and pretending not to continue with", and you're not." I think this is the core value of most self-employed then they are able to get out of it when they become businessmen that works with a team.

4."we're great." This behavior really trusts the team.

5."let's improve life." or something like that.

We undergo on all of the stages and the goal is to be able to achieve the last level. The challenge is one cannot achieve the last level without being part of a team. I was actually surprised one of their tips was "Learn Business." I couldn't agree more most especially I'm a businessman. And I'm very much an advocate of teamwork. I just think it would be hard for others to transition especially those who are not yet aware the benefits of being an entrepreneur. Also to those having a hard time working with a team. Or am I stating this because I'm in the disease mode? Well, I would commit to never give up on people. That was also one of the tips the book advised.

Would we actually be able to achieve world peace? And also make our mother earth healthier? I'm just excited to see it if ever it would happen! I'm also praying for it. I guess my challenge to the readers would be really understand the mechanics of a team and bring some friends with you to that journey. I'm not sure if it's the right path but I think it's one of the fun journeys we can take!

I've been wishing to meet someone that is knowledgeable in law. Finally I found the guy. Ever since I started to explore business, my focus was talking to accountants and lawyers. It was easy to find accountants and talk to them. Lawyers, on the other hand, especially corporate lawyers are hard to find.

"Ignorance of the Law excuses no one." - some lawyer :)

I always hear that from my mother and in a television series that tackles about law. My mom always encourage to give time learning about it and read newspapers often. Did I do it? Hell no.

I'm the kind of guy that wants fun all the time. Or at least that was me before. Now, I need more focus most especially I lead a business. I always make sure there will be an element of fun in our businesses and activities. I believe in the formula of the greatest networker: accomplishment = growth + fun + result.

Law is fun. I'm not so sure if I'm just making it up like forcing myself to like something. I've been training myself to like something I don't like ever since I was a kid. I guess you can relate if your parents expect that you always have passing grades. I always pushed myself to love subjects I hate just to impress my parents.

But I think I really like law. I watch Ally Mcbeal before and I miss the series. Or maybe I just like her. She's beautiful for me and I have a thing for weird people. I do find myself having fun watching movies about cases and try to catch up what is happening or to understand the case. I'm not your genius guy who gets ideas fast and I just discovered I'm half deaf. I discovered it when I had a medical check-up requirement before I get to be fully hired by a tv network.

Now back to business. Law has been one of my focus to always consider especially in business transactions. I've been searching for a lawyer to be a partner. I have a stereotype to them though. 90% of them are snakes. That's the same reason I always increase my leadership skills. I want to read snakes before they bite me and if it's too late to realize that they are snakes, my leadership influence has to be overwhelming to be able to tame these snakes.

The ultimate defense formula that I adapted is Self-knowledge to counter these snakes. I have this mantra,"If everything will be gone, I can always recreate them because of the inherent gifts given by the Higher being." The second back-up is character focus. I need to have the highest level of leadership skill to be able to read people and know his or her character with 90% accuracy. Third is overwhelming influence. With this in mind, you now know why I am serious in studying leadership. Those three subjects are covered by it.

Today, I nailed my goal of meeting someone very knowledgeable in law and get his trust and loyalty. I met the "Joker". Let's just call him that for he wants to maintain low profile. He said,"You don't need to mention my name. Just know that you have better advantage if I help you out. It's like having a joker in your deck of cards." He also assured me to ask him if I have some inquiries regarding law. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the indication of trust. That's IOT my friend.

My philosophy of trust is everyday it diminishes. You need to maintain in building trust. When you get an IOT, it doesn't mean you end there. You need to build it more. You build it by really delivering results. At least that is what I consider my Ace. In conclusion, I will be building more trust and loyalty to Joker.

Country of Arts: Artistic Philippines

Malaysia have a campaign called Creative Malaysia. The meaning behind it is if you need something about creativity most especially animation, you can count on Malaysia. My concept of Artistic Philippines maybe a copy of that idea but at the bottom of my heart it's really the description of our beloved country.

In our history, great painters emerged and poets. If you would remember the Indio who won in poetry. Rizal won and was not accepeted since he is not Spanish. At present, artists like Chariz, Jessica and the new singer discovered in SM known as the random girl exists. Not only do we have art geniuses in singing but also in ballet and visual arts. I had the chance to witness these things in an event that I was invited by my animation business mentor Grace in Rizal Park. It was a celebration of the Artistic heritage of our country.

There is nothing the Filipinos cannot excel into. Be it boxing or work, name it and we will excel on it. Even laughing at ourselves despite calamities and mishaps, we are also good at it. I guess a reminder just have to be there always for us to really embrace our power as a nation.

One of the things I value the most today is support group. I was different back then. I don't believe in having a support group before. But understanding business did the paradigm shift. Create a business team first before you achieve business success. You can still achieve doing it alone but sure everyone is aware that a team would do better. I dream of having a support group for the artists within us. I dream of having a community that shares their passion on arts. They talk about it and create art together. They also share it to others together.

Every Filipino has an artistic spirit inside. He wants to sing a song with his own rendition. She wants to dance her own choreography. A painter wants to express his visual genius. We have a cultural heritage worth showcasing to the world!

Another thing that I value is the call to action. If you believe on what I believe about the things I said above, you are the next person that I want to sit down and share ideas with. I know a group who believes what you believe. You might discover an exciting time of your life. More importantly, you will be able to unleash that artist spirit inside of you. See you my new friend.

CEO File #6: Passive Income

I'm expecting most people right now should be aware of passive income. But one of the simple rules given to me before is to never assume anything. You can set assumptions and always give some percentage for it to be wrong until proven right. If you do not know what passive income means, you can always look it up on the internet. I suggest you first understand the meaning before reading the rest of this article.

I make my it a point that my life is about making passive income first that would sustain my needs and family. I decided on this the moment I was committed to pursue to become rich in business. I don't want to work until the age of 65. Of course, not everyone agrees on this principle.

I also do not recommend it to anyone who is not willing to take risks. Becoming rich is only to those bold enough to try something different. At least this is the world I knew today. Getting rich is hard to those who does not look harder what he is missing. If you already have a plan like climbing the corporate ladder, I suggest still question your plan and do due diligence. Improve that plan and make sure you really make it.

My friends say that being rich is unique to everyone. That is very true. People who have a lot of friends consider themselves very rich of friends. People who have many likes in facebook consider themselves rich of likes. People earning 30,000 a month consider themselves rich. I didn't understand this before and yes this is very true. I have nothing against it today. I don't want you to change your perception of being rich. I also do not hinder you of adopting a different one. I suggest really ask yourself what would really fulfill you as a person.

Rich equals billionaire and more. Being one of the top ten richest men in the world means rich to me. My quest is to be an ultimate investor. I wanted to sell hundreds of companies every year. Thus, I decided my business is creating passive income. It's my ticket to becoming rich.

I'd like to share to you my formula for creating passive income. There are 3 things: mission, leadership and team.

1. Mission - Decide your mission in life. I have a mission for myself, my family, my country and the whole world. I believe the path to becoming rich would be very hard if you do not have spiritual mission of contributing to others. Creating passive income for oneself may sound being self-centered. It is. Before you selfishly enjoy wealth, you first undergo being selfless. Like the ultimate samurai first decides to die and face death in battle before becoming the ultimate undefeatable slasher, a billionaire in the making first decides to offer his life for the good of millions of people. When you adhere to this principle, you will notice being selfish diminishes forever inside of you. This is the drawback of really wanting to be rich in a legal way. You will no longer create wealth only to benefit yourself. Part of giving it back will stick to you forever. Before deciding any mission in life, be sure to be willing of not having your selfishness come back to you forever. It is the sacrifice you need to make.

2. Leadership - You need technical skills to run a business. That is the easy part. You can find partners or hire people with the skills required for your business. The people skills is the hard part. People run the system. You need to lead people. The highest form of people skill is leadership. When you become a true leader; rejection, disappointments and failures become nothing to you but sources of wisdom and clues to finding the right path for your business. There are a lot of ways to becoming a true leader for your business. There is no definite path. You need to find your own style just like in anything that we do. Even businesses are not exactly the same. You can always first have a model then you need to evolve in having your own identity.

3. Team - It's very difficult to become rich if you don't have a team. I prefer a team that I can trust and are closely bonded to me. It also makes challenges easier to take and more fun in exploring new worlds. The team needs to share the same dreams. Maybe not too similar but aligned.

This is my formula of becoming a billionaire. Yes, it is not everything but I consider them the pillars to my success. There is more to it and I will share to you more in the next CEO Files. Bless you!

CEO File #5: Give Love

It's Sunday and a good day for a very long meditation. It's been a long time since I was consistent with that practice. I was reminded with the Spiritual Laws of Success. I was reminded of planting seeds of happiness.

I rewrote my passive income goals for this year. It was my personal goal and not for the company. I think about the things I learned in my business and the experiences I have. One of the things I learned is to write your goal for this year and look at it as frequent as possible. I kept it in my wallet. Then I remember the goal of giving happiness and love to others.

Have I been giving love to others? Or am I just going through the flow of life making myself comfortable and do just fine. Have I been living my purpose?

I'm talking of a different kind of love. It's not the romantic love that teenagers think about 95% of the time. It's about love to people. It's more of giving value to others. Maybe the romantic love is part of it but it's not all of it. I think about love on the larger scale like love for the country or the less fortunate or the middle class getting broke or employees who are desperate of going to the right quadrant.

I want to be rich. I want to do the things that matter to me. What are those things? One of them is spending time with my family. Another is playing video games all day long or maybe all year long. I would want to play all the RPGs in the world. That's the personal desires that I have. One of my beliefs is I cannot have this if I don't give them or similar to those things. Give first then you get. My formula of being rich and being financially free is giving love to more and more people.

I was thinking of continuing the group I created before. It was a leadership group. Those people believed that everything rises or falls on leadership. That is love. I'm thinking if I continue to give value to these people, giving them what they want, happiness will be expanded. And it will return hundred fold. Is this unconditional love?

They say that unconditional love is about not expecting anything. It's half true for me. Maybe you don't get something in material form but you may feel happy. You still received happiness in the act of giving. I guess I'm expecting something in return but it would be just the secondary purpose. One of the things I learned in college is not to expect too much so as not to be too disappointed.

I guess my challenge to you my beloved reader is that give little love everyday. It can be anything. It can be writing a blog for readers and they learn. It could be a motivational text quote to your friend. Or it could be a silent prayer. And lastly, I challenge you to write your goals for this year and I hope you write me if it benefited you. I always go back to this quote when I am confused in business. Sometimes we love complicated and fancy things when all you need are simple stuff - the basics.

"Make your life simple," my lady boss in my first job would usually say. I remember also she saw a leader inside of me. She said compared to my partner, I was not good enough and I have more mistakes because she and I are the same. We are leaders. If managed properly, I would become a superstar in their company. Today, I strive to be good enough and make less mistakes to lead by example.

I'm not sure if it's been weeks or more than a month when I haven't reviewed my leadership books. I always notice this pattern. The pattern of being fancy and forget my basics when things are going a little better. Then frequent high tempers and growing frustrations emerge. Did I ever learn or am I just plain stupid?

"When you are in your rhythm, nobody can beat you." I don't remember what movie that was but I really like that line. Things are not so bright in the business right now. I think I'm off my rhythm. I'm sure I need to go back to my discipline to have my basic rhythm.

The purest form of discipline is in a child. Discipline means total focus on what you do.When a child is playing, it's totally focused. Parents have a hard time stopping them for they are fully disciplined in playing. Now I need to find the child in me for the usual discipline that I do. It seems a bit challenging for I feel its work. I need to find how to make it part of the child in me. Make it playful or a game. Make it fun.

I guess this is a transition to my own evolution. The evolution of my usual discipline. What is your discipline?

CEO File #3: Something Unusal

This morning in the bus, the one getting our travel charges or fees is a girl - not a woman. I usually see older women doing this job during latenight shifts. We call them "konduktor." Today, it was a young girl. Her age may be around 22-ish. It's just way too odd for me.

Usually, insights happen when we go out of our routines. I think this is one of them in my case. What's normal to me are men doing the "konduktor" job. The first thought that came to me was,"Too much poverty might have caused females getting jobs like these." Or do I still have the gender bias mentality in my subconscious?

I guess it's not gender discrimination or something. I guess I just don't see it too often. I also encountered a taxi driver that is a woman. Sometimes it just feels weird. What is the message behind these things?

Another scenario in the bus was a weather update. Mayor Lim cancelled classes in Manila. And the news anchor said,"Ang balita ay galing sa Tweeter ni Mayor Lim." That just made me laugh inside. I guess the picture of the mayor doing fb and tweeter was just a funny picture to me. Then I thought, in the past, there are stories in the internet that we don't readily believe, now it's used as updates on current news.

With the annoying rain outside, I guess it's not a bad day to start after all. The interpretation that I concluded with these unusual things that I have observed is that life is reminding me to always challenge the status quo for a better life. I guess all these things are just part of our evolution.

Today, me and my team went to an animation congress at CCP. The topic was "Storytelling to Storyselling." It will run for 2 days and we just had finished day 1. It was exciting for me to attend the event. It's good that we are not too busy in production and we have more time to attend events and meet more people and be more exposed in the business.

Nothing against to artists but I think we got too much poverty in our original content. I have this comment since it was the 1st thing I saw in one of the galleries at the venue. This is not the culture I want to have that I want to pass on to the next generation of artists. But I guess I couldn't complain more at this since it's the culture that they have grown up with. I guess me and my team would be the ones to initiate the change we want to have.

At the event, we get to see one of the co-founders of Pixar, Ralph Guggenheim. It's really an honor to actually see someone when before you have just read about him. And so the discussion began.

The pressing issue not only in the animation industry but the whole Philippine entertainment industry today is how to market globally. The 1st day was suppose to talk about what would be the original content of the philippines if we are to market internationally. Just like japanese have anime, china have dynasty disputes and kung-fu, bollywood of india, what would be for the Philippines?

As the congress proceed, the discussion was leaning towards the details of how to really market instead of first talking what to sell. There was no problem with content. Filipinos have a lot of resources to tap when it comes to stories. But as what Robert Kiyosaki said in his book Rich Dad Poor Dad,"I'm not the best-writing author. Im a BEST-SELLING AUTHOR." His advise to one of the aspiring writers of novels in Singapore was to study sales marketing. The aspirant reacted violently that she wouldn't stoop down to sales people like him and she refused to take the advise.

In my observation, most artists don't have the inclination of how to market their stories properly. Worse, they don't have any idea what marketing is all about. Yes, it's important to speak your heart out to your story, but if you cannot sell them, you will only have your family as your market or worse just your loving and understanding mother. Well I guess it's not bad at all to start with your loving mother. At least you have you 1st track record.

I recently appreciate sales and marketing when I got interested in business. I look down at sales people before but now I look up and admire them the most. Selling for me is very important. Had not Churchill sold the idea of freedom for UK, Hitler must have overrun them. Had Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio hadn't sold the idea of our freedom, we wouldn't have the Katipunan and other supporters that led us to our freedom. All the great leaders need to sell. For me, selling is efficient communication. For better understanding, it's knowing how to communicate straight to the heart of people. The meaning of straight to the heart is that people get to readily understand the value to them of your idea. If your story,or better, your sales marketing message don't convey the value to them straight to their hearts, they will not buy it.

In one of the open-forums at the congress, there was a question to the panelist:"Have anyone of you really made an effort in marketing your film here in the philippines? Have you really tried testing here in our country before going out?" We all have many opinions at this but for me, I wouldn't start in the philippine market. There are a lot of attempts already and it didn't work. I believe also with another line from RK: Don't go where you are unwanted. If Filipinos don't like local content, well, I guess they are the wrong market for it. Other countries might want it. Besides, the US speakers at the congress said it themselves. They don't like US influence in movies that they watch. They want stories from other countries to know more of different cultures.

I also noticed stories in the Bible wherein prophets cannot persuade people in their own hometown. They need to start outside and go back to their hometown, before they get to be listened to there. Get the picture? US don't like US content. Philippines don't like Filipino content. I guess the Japanese is just really the exception here.
Ralph said of only talking to people who asks "Why not" instead of just "Why?" So, if I ask people, let's try to sell film in the US first before we sell it here, I would then only listen and collaborate with people who will ask:"Why not?" instead of the skeptics"Why? can't you see? we need to convince first our countrymen before you can sell it abroad. How in your logical mind ever conceptualize that if we don't like what we do, the international market will? If we keep on subscribing to this colonial mentality, we cannot move on. blah...blah.. blah..."I wouldn't stop you though if you want to try that approach and I pray that you would be successful. If I fail, well, at least you are right and you are already there and I would follow you then.
I guess being logical is not the way to approach this issue. They always say think out of the box. You want another evidence why my idea would work? One of the morning panelists said it himself. He posted a simple stick game in youtube and the MTV wants to buy it. He was skeptic if the deal was true since what he made was really, in his view, was a stupidly simple one that he created for only 3 days. And now he is running a company, partnered with a big foreign company, with 65 employees and growing.

In the afternoon open-forum, I just couldn't hold myself and I felt I needed to really speak up and say what I have to say. I gave that comment about that marketing first in the US before here in the Philippines, and I got criticized with pretty much similar comment with the above paragraph in front of the many audience. I said to myself that I should've just asked my question and not give any comments. I later learned from my teammate that a comment at the seats said something that I was too blunt to say that and that I was implying that we as filipinos are not good enough to sell stories. But my team said, they deserve to know it and hear it. Thank you team. I felt the same way, I love my country the Philippines, and I would rather hurt the people I love and learn from it.

At the end of the day, the world only listens to results. I may be wrong, you may be right or vice-versa. Or we can be both right or both wrong. I guess the key is unity. We may have different paths to take, but the same goal that we want to achieve. You might find the right way of your path, I wouldn't bother you. I certainly do commit to finding the right way through my path. That way, let's meet to the top and see you in the winners circle.

The spur of emotions especially anger can be very consuming and makes one irrational. And what happens next are conversations you regret to spit. The trust bank of your influence to the people you trust is again consumed. You will need to refill them again. But if only you were aware and maintained awareness of the choice you are about to make, trust didn't have to be diminished and better yet fill it more.

Being seated at a high position in the company can be very stressful. Intense focus on making choices what's best for the organization can be very challenging.

"Every moment you are making a choice." - Deepak Chopra

Consistent practice of killing the ego whenever criticisms arise is the most challenging. Being in the high position can sometimes get in your head and become deaf of what is important.

Realizing today, I haven't yet mastered myself or I have become rusty. One of the ways to subdue the ego is embrace the big picture and continue to love people genuinely.

CEO File Introduction

One day I was just urged to blog again now that I am in a high position. I was thinking I could capture my experiences being a CEO of a company, I would love to visit this again maybe few years from now or more. I wanted to look back how I did. How immature I was. How did I mature. How did I grow as a leader. And I hope to share to you and would be happy if my experience would help you in any way.

I thought it would be catchy if I will title the blog series as CEO Files. I think it would be interesting for readers to know the experience of a CEO or his thoughts. It would be also great to know how he matures or how does he deal with challenges. And I think it would be worth sharing to people how I do, think and what I believe as a CEO.

I've already written 4 files before I thought of writing this introduction. I just thought, why not create it like a book. Maybe I could ask an author someday to write a foreword for it. And I hope you would buy it soon, too.

Now, who am I trying to share these thoughts? Who would benefit it reading these files? If you are someone who wishes to improve as a person as whole, these articles are for you. If you also believe the importance of leadership in every aspect of your life, this is also for you. More importantly if you are interested in running a business, you would also get a thing or two. What if you are an employee? You will have an understanding how your boss is going through and you might find someway to help him and you might just get a promotion. Or better, you might become his right hand and you may discover opportunities you can only imagine. If you are looking for just something new, I guess the CEO files is not that new as an idea but the experiences I had may be very new to you.

I will be just blogging one or two posts per week and I hope you enjoy it. I would also appreciate your comments and suggestions. Who knows we might be doing business in the future by engaging through my CEO Files.

Your Best is Not Enough

There is a huge difference between doing your best and doing whatever it takes. It's the same thing with your attitude in achieving your dreams. Either you do your best to achieve them or do whatever it takes. If you apply both, much better. If there's one important trait that I would pass on to someone who really want to succeed in life that I got from my Personal Business Coach (Coach Raph), it would be the attitude of doing whatever it takes.

A year ago, my business results were OK. Business doing OK means a little above break-even. That means your business sucks. One time, Coach Raph uttered something about something that impresses me. "Ludwig, you are too busy being impressed," he said. I didn't get it. "If you focus on what's important, you will have better results." It confused me more. Yes, sometimes I don't get things right away. "Tell me, what impresses you?" he asked. "Php 800,000 sales in my business," I replied quickly without thinking. "And what is important to you?"another mind boggling question came. "Clients!" I replied with hesitancy but trying to show all the confidence I got left. "See,"he continued. Then he mimicked my ever usual reply whenever we have these kinds of out-of-this-world conversations, "Oo nga no.." At first, I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to see - or understand what he's trying to point out.

I was doing massive action in my business - or so I thought I was. I was doing business almost 8 hours a day. Whenever doing marketing, I didn't stop until I finish the 8 hour schedule. It was really painful. When I'm done, I felt so productive - or so I thought, again.

Reflecting as to what Coach Raph was saying, I later realized what he wants me to see. If I want my business to zoom up, I just have to change my answers in the questions what impresses me and what's important to me - or interchange it.

Activity is never productivity. 8 hour action doesn't mean Php 800,000 results. If I want that kind of result, there has to be a step closer result EVERYDAY. Again, RESULT - not 8 hours.

Now what does PRODUCTIVITY have to do with YOUR DREAMS? It's EVERYTHING. It's the same with achieving your personal dreams and goals. What IMPRESSES you? Is it the places you can travel? The big bucks you can make in your career? The time you can have for your family when you retire? The things you can do for your country and your countrymen? Then what is IMPORTANT to you? Is it your work? Getting up early so you don't be late and not get fired? Or is it the other way around?

It's the same with what I've read from Francis Kong in one of his articles. He stressed out the fulfillment you can get in personal growth and never take it for granted. If you see a person with huge personal growth, it IMPRESSES you. Now what if you make it something IMPORTANT to you? The time you will say that personal growth is important to you, you will begin to commit. Just wanting personal growth is not the same when you commit to have it. So what is important to you?

One of the Historical Heroes I admire is Hideyoshi (The Swordless Samurai by Kitami Misao). He lived when Japan was in deep turmoil in the Age of Wars. He was the one who succeeded Oda, his mentor who wanted to unite the entire Japan. Oda died so Hideyoshi continued the endeavor and created Shogun. Hideyoshi started as a peasant and became the most powerful leader of Japan. He started with serving as a servant to his lord and mentor.

When Oda noticed Hideyoshi's devotion and really giving full effort in every little task he gives, he considered Hideyoshi as a very valuable asset. He called Hideyoshi as "someone who makes things done." Hideyoshi rose and became a general. Even in war, he displayed excellent achievements. In war, YOUR BEST IS NOT ENOUGH. Lives are at stake. YOU DO WHATEVER IT TAKES. YOU MAKE THINGS DONE. YOU MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.

In my entire lifetime, I never heard the line "make things happen." I didn't hear it in school, in work, in my parents. I first heard it in my mentors. And I am most grateful for hearing such words. My mentors are great blessings to me. I have dreams. You have dreams. We all have dreams. If you adapt the do whatever it takes attitude, there's no way you will not get your dreams. If you don't get your dream, I assure great fulfillment in applying your whole heart and self to your endeavor.

What impresses you? What is important to you? There is no right or wrong answers. At the end of the day, either you get the things that are really important to you or not and if you did whatever it takes and find fulfillment in your endeavor.
