Big Boys on Bikes

We bought Jack a bike 2 years ago almost, and being the rookies that we are, it was actually way too big for him. Finally, this spring we borrowed a bike from a friend and Jack learned to ride on it. He graduated to his big bike yesterday and David is now tall enough to be able to ride the borrowed bike and he’s very excited. Daddy put the training wheels on and David is a happy camper. Jack rides almost every day and it has been great exercise for him.

Train Engineer

Being of the “builder” persuasion, David enjoys setting up train tracks in a way Jack never has. Finally the giant Thomas train set that was handed down to us from Mark’s brother is getting some use! (Click on the thumbnails for full-sized images.)

Jack turns 6

The boys get a party every other birthday, and this was Jack’s year to invite some kids over. He wanted a treasure hunt party, so we had some clues and they had to figure them out and run around the house to find the next one to finally get to the treasure. He had a treasure chest pinata and a Mommy-made cake (my first attempt at cake decorating in a while). A good time was had by all.

Jack has entered the Star Wars phase of life, which is fun, since we get to watch those hokey movies again and Mark pulled out the X-Wing fighter and remote controlled R2D2 he played with as a kid. He’s lots of fun to do school with (when he’s in the mood that is) because he’s interested in everything. He continues to be high-energy, challenging, mischievous, goofy, cautious and outgoing. Life is never boring with Jack around.

David turns 3

My sweet little guy turned 3 a couple of weeks ago. We had a small family party and David had a big time.

David escaped the “terrible twos” with not very much terrible. He gets upset now and then- throws his hands up and cries things like “Now I’ll never get to play anything ever again!!!!” and wails, but it never lasts long. He’s never even had a real temper tantrum. Maybe 3 will be his year for that.

He loves puzzles, building things and drawing. He’s got really good fine motor skills for a little guy and can write some letters and draws funny pictures with funny descriptions to go along with them. He is very affectionate and always wants kisses and hugs. I was explaining to him what a wife was recently, and asked him if he thought he’d have a wife one day, and he said “Yes! And I’ll give her WOTS of kisses!”

Bluebonnets

We’ve lived in Texas 3 years now, and this is the first time we’ve taken pictures of the boys in a bluebonnet field. The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas, and getting your kids out in a field at some point in the Spring is sort of obligatory around here.

Keeping Up

It’s been so pathetically long since I posted here. I hate to let it go too long because this is sort of an archive that I think it will be fun for the boys to look back at when they’re older. Also when I can’t remember anything that happened when they were this age, I’ll be able to look over the pictures and read about all they were doing and have a big boohoo about them being so big and how I miss when they were little… well, that’s what everyone tells me I’ll do. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Not long after I last wrote, we went to Ohio for about a month while Mark was out of town on business. We had a great time, and the boys especially enjoyed playing with Emily and Benjamin and meeting their new cousin Aron.

Jack is still plugging along with his schoolwork and taking on more chores at home. David has become a big boy overnight it seems. Just in the last month he’s begun to sit through church and is potty trained!!! I feel like I’ve passed a milestone, having moved the changing table into my closet, and spent my last Sundays in the nursery.

Honestly though, I AM going to miss this. I’m going to miss their little hands in mine, hearing them laugh together while they play, their funny quotes… I’m trying to enjoy every minute and am so grateful to God for giving them to us.
