Hotlinking and Internet Security

I am having a problem viewing images on certain web sites and in the forums. I'm not sure what is causing it, but have felt that it must be something in the way my computer is set up. I am running Windows XP Pro and Norton Internet Security - mostly with default settings. I have added a few sites to my trusted list, but not a lot.

Making a logo

I am really just starting out.

But already it seems to be that you can do a lot of the cool 3d shadowing that you might do with a true 3d Modeling software (like Maya ) in photoshop.

For example, can anyone tell me how I could do this sort of box-like shadowing and shading like this:

I did not do this image. I am looking for some advice on how to do this sort of thing. I want to do something a little simular.
