I ordered some DROPs alpaca wool and it arrived today!! Now I just need to finish the cardigan I'm working on and then I'm on my way to knitting a hat and some slippers from alpaca. I'm so over-excited!!

Creative update photo's!

This is a piece from LaDeDa designs called Mares and Oats. I'm working on it as a present for my Mum. It is a song her and my Nan used to sing that drove me up the wall when I was a kid.

This is a tea-cosy (as you can see) that I knitted with some lovely yarn I bought from a shop in Great Missenden. I can't remember what the shop or the yarn are called though! The pattern is from knitty.com.

Today we have been to Manor House Museum at Kettering for the first time. They are running a special exhibit called ‘Weird Contraptions and Gadgets’ which contains all manner of amusing inventions. I asked Kira to pick the gadget she thought was the most useful, and the contraption she thought was the silliest. The winners are:

BATTERY OPERATED TORCH SPECTACLES – Kira could not see the point in these. “Why not just carry a torch? Its less hassle” she thought. I see her point, although my husband informs me you can actually buy a modern version of these glasses from the pound shop.

LADIES SPY VANITY CASE – Kira though this would be a very useful thing to have. It looks like a normal vanity case, can hold your toiletries etc, but also has a cleverly concealed spy camera in the side so you can take sneaky photos of suspect characters as you wander down the street. Pretty cool.

I recently discovered this phenomenom after catching a friend making one at the swimming pool (best not to ask). I'm now having a go at making my first altered book. I had a brainwave that I would tea dye some paper, which seems great. But where exactly are you supposed to put this stuff while it dries. Its raining today so outdoors is out of the question. Currently my kitchen is full of wet paper. Looks good though!

We had a lovely walk through Short Woods, near Oundle. I have never been here before. We got to meet some homeschoolers that we hadn’t met before, as well as some old friends we hadn’t seen for a while. Amanda organised the walk and printed a list of photo ideas for the kids, who seperated into three teams. Here is the results. Some of these were taken by Kira, some by me, and some by our friend Aidan.

It was a bit of a nippy day, so we stopped in Oundle on the way home for hot chocolate. Yum!

Now I've settled into the new house and unpacked all my stash I've finally started the first round of the new rotation. Here it is:

Knitting

I'm not sure what to put in the knitting slot cos I keep changing my mind. I may stick to some small finishes for now, sock, gloves and the like. I've also joined the challenge over on theWagon to only stitch from my stash this year. This shouldn't be to difficult as I have rather a lot of it!

I'm cramming quite a lot in lately as I've also just started my degree again after a 10 year hiatus. This is really exciting, especially as I've switched from classical history to music. I'm now two weeks in and I'm loving it. I can't make it to tutorials though as they are on a Saturday in Leicester, which i about 2 hours from here and I have band practice. Also the veg garden is planned, seeds have been catalogued and garden has been dug. Its gonna need a couple more sessions of digging first though as the clay soil here is really clumpy.

I've also been reading. First there was Scar Tissue which I thoroughly enjoyed eventually. You can read my review if you click on the linky bit.

Rotating rotation

I’ve decided to work a rotation again this year. I need a coherent plan to reduce some stash AND get these bloody baby jumpers finished. I’ve listed my rotation on the Rotation Stitchers BB, but here it is again.

’ So the plan is to work on each of these for at least 2 hrs before moving on to the next.

5. TW Lady of Shallot 6. Knitting project (currently a DROPS norwegian jumper)

I may not necessarily work on them in this order, but shall only work each of them once every round. I may work on them for longer than 2 hours if the fancy takes me. I will also not make any new starts this year until I am down to 5 WIP’s, but I may be tempted to stash as I feel some needlepoint may be in order ’

I'm gonna put a ticker on here for the sweaters too, just as a bit of extra encouragement. It will be at the bottom somewhere. Here’s a pic of the wool I’m using for the current 10 - I have to knit 40 sweaters in 4 different patterns and yarns (10 of each). This is the King Cole Sprinkles.

There’s been lots of snow fun here recently, it has cleared in the last couple of days we are forecast a fresh load before the end of the week. I’m waiting to dig a vegetable garden but the soil is just too hard right now. Kira is waiting for ants for her ant farm, and needs worms for her wormery but neither are happening till the weather warms up a little.

The poor birds at Barnwell Country Park only had a little bit of water left to swim in at New Year!

The norwegian sweater that I had started had to be unpicked as the tension was working out way too big, despite doing a tension square before hand. So now I have cast on a size smaller and hope that should work out ok.

New Year, new starts, old finishes

I’ve had to change the template again. The last one was buggy and it wouldn’t let me re arrange the sidebars and it was becoming quite irritating.

I’ve made a new knitting start for the new year. Its from the DROPS website and I’m using some stash wool I got from the charity shop several months ago. I’ve been meaning to knit something from this site for ages, so I’m quite pleased with my choice. Here’s a pic of the first 5 rows, lol.

I’ve done no x stitch now for about 10 months, nor been on any forums. This is
mainly because I packed most of my sewing ready to move house. Yes, we finally
moved house! It is wonderful here, peaceful and quite and I just have to trip
out the front door to be in the countryside. Now the unpacking is done I shall
endevour to get back into the stitching again. I’m especially missing my HAED
Queen of Annwyn. This year I need to get some finishes, knitting, cross stitch
and otherwise as my new house is slightly smaller than the old one and the stash
is taking over. I may have to get rid of some books too :(

The new diet and other nuts

Today I am starting a diet. I will not deny there have been diets before, but I fully intend for this to be the last. Usually I last around three weeks on diets, by which time my weight has plateaued and I see no reason not to go eat a big plate of croissants. This time I am approaching it differently. For starters I have found a diet I think I can reasonably follow forever if need be. Secondly, I have equipped myself with everything I may need BEFORE starting the diet, rather than half-heartedly only stocking up on some things and thinking I can make do without the rest. The diet I am following is low-carb and is this:

Today I have had cheesy eggs and mushroom for breakfast, snacked on nuts and had quorn chicken roll. I’m about to go and eat some wild mushroom soup, then later I will have an avocado salad. I’m also drinking lots of water, but still have a mild headache today.

As far as stitching and knitting goes, I am diligently working on a piece for Twilleys called Cameo Leaves with some very nice silks. I am also still trying to make my way through the forty jumpers, although haven’t made much progress for about two weeks.

DD2 is at Brownie Centenary celebrations in Abington Park, so I have an hours peace before it ends. Went to Daily Bread (local whole food store) and treated myself to some Ylang Ylang incense. Mmmmm smells much better than guinea pig hutch, which is the smell that greets me most days when I walk in the door.

S'been a while since I posted a proper entry, and today I feel the urge to organise and update. The whole house moving scenario has so far been a trauma, but is now looking more promising so I'm in a much better frame of mind. I have also been muchly productive, working on a 40 baby sweater project for one manufacturer and a quickie cross stitch for another. I want to try and finish some WIP's this year if I can, especially the knitting ones, so keep an eye on the sidebar as I try to produce a list (roflmao).

Got some great stash yesterday from the nearby Age Concern shop. Found 20 balls of wool in a variagated mulberry that they wanted 50p a ball for. Some of it is quite tangled and has some kind of glue stuck to a few outer strands, but managed to haggle her down to £5 for the lot. Definately enough there for a winter sweater, maybe also a hat and gloves. Found two balls of a pretty yellow bobbly wool for 60p in the Red Cross shop also. Must be my lucky week!

Not a lot happening at home right now. We are still waiting to move house, which is quite depressing and the reason I haven’t been blogging of late. I haven’t touched any knitting or sewing in months. I’m addicted to Baldur's Gate and Forgotten Realms in all it's many connotations. I have been reading a lot, it helps my mind escape from the stress of Estate Agents and house buyers.

We had out annual family holiday to Center Parcs last week. Best holiday we had in years, we shall definately return next year. I shall post photos another time as I am currently busy trying to install some stupid bloody Adobe product that it supposed to make life easier. Hahahahaha.

A short tale of a long scarf...

... which I finally finished and posted this morning! I have been model knitting a beret and scarf for the last three weeks. The scarf measures 190cm, which is very long in terms of scarf knitting. I began to feel like I was knitting a scarf for Dr Who (aka Tom Baker era, for those too young to remember). But tis finished and gone, never to be seen again! This leaves me some time to finish Laughing Carrots for DD2.

As you can see, only half a sleeve to go and borders then it'll be finished.

Also squee! I have resisted buying any more charts for months, so decided to reward myself by buying two La-D-Da designs charts! I bought Mares Eat Oats mainly because it is a song my Mum and my Nan used to sing when I was little, so I shall make this one for Mum. And I bought Something Wicked just because. So now I have an excuse to buy fabby and thread too. Double squee!!
