This is pretty cool. It tracks your physical location and uses Google Maps to find and suggest places to eat nearby. Sure, Yelp and Urbanspoon do this too, but this is just so much more assertive.

I tried to be a tough guy and order my wings extra-hot at Ching’s, instead of just “hot.”

Dear lord, if this is what they call extra-hot I don’t even want to know what the “suicide” flavor is like.

The sauce’s red color is fitting, because the heat made me feel like my insides were bleeding.

Wear waterproof mascara if you plan on ordering these, because they will make you cry, sweat and cough.

But they tasted pretty good, all things considered. That’s the beauty of Ching’s.

This is an Epic Burger on a whole wheat bun with fried egg, grilled onions, bacon and cheese. It lived up to the “epic” moniker — as did the hand-cut fries and vanilla shake (not pictured).

Service at the counter was friendly and we got through the line quickly.

The Chicago chain features only fresh, natural ingredients and all the burgers (plus the turkey burger, portabella and chicken breast sandwiches) are made to order. Of course they take a little longer than at a fast-food place, but they are worth the wait. And the burgers are large for the cost and quality.

There are six locations: the one we dined at was next to a Bentley dealership. Whoa.

We followed a morning of last-minute Mardi Gras costume shopping with a trip to Stein’s Market & Deli on Magazine St. The authentic New York-style deli was packed — but the owner’s no-nonsense, no BS approach and the super-efficient sandwich makers behind the counter kept the line moving. Which is good, since there is very little room to stand around.

The long cafeteria benches were packed with hippie-hipster types, so we ordered our sandwiches to go. We lurked among the towers of craft beers, most of which I’d never heard of, until our name was called. I felt like I was in someone’s way the entire time.

This is the “Southern Animal Foundation,” or S.A.F. It’s got honey turkey, Nueske’s bacon, avocado, cucumber, Provolone (or your choice of cheese) on wheat with spicy mustard. At $10.99 it’s a little pricy for a sandwich but reasonable for the quality — and the quantity. That’s a nice little heap of turkey there.

— as well as a “combination,” which allows you to pick two toppings. Pork leg, pastor and Cuban are my standbys, but on this day I was struggling to decide. So, I ordered a chorizo and egg torta and nicknamed it “Mexican Breakfast Sandwich.”

At first I was hesitant to order eggs from a menu that includes few egg dishes, but in my many previous experiences at Las Delicias the ingredients have been super-fresh. This was no different. The ground sausage was spicy and the scrambled eggs were just crumbly enough. It was a little messy, but isn’t that the hallmark of a great sandwich?

As always, we started with an order of Las Delicias’ famous made-to-order guacamole and split a bowl of chicken tortilla soup.

#44: Vermicelli with pork, shrimp and eggroll

My fiancé ordered pho ga and I ordered this, the equivalent to my standard order at Pho Vietnam, the #77 (click to compare). The portion may have been a little smaller—but the pork was more tender and as you can see, the mint was fresher. I prefer the atmosphere and the service at Pho Vietnam, but Pho Saigon wins in a head-to-head vermicelli battle.
