Let's Talk About Pawdicures

How many furbabies out there allow their nails to be clipped?

How many will fight against a pawdicure at all costs?

Over here, we've got two fighters in our household...

Though, when it comes to Teddy, fighter might not be the right word...

complainer is probably a more accurate description.

This little girl will howl and hiss and grunt all day long,

but she's too loving to cause any physical harm,

and more often than not I'm able to get most of her nails done.

Lux on the other hand,

well, while he has no problems showing off his beloved claws...

... he will fight you to the death if you try to clip those monsters.

I've found that sneaking a clip in here and there works...

one nail clipped before he realizes what you're doing and goes into fight mode...

but at this rate we never get anywhere.

The silly part is that when I bring out the clippers Lux runs right over...

but not only will he swat and bite away any attempts to clip those claws,

he will chase me around the house after I've given up

to make his hatred of pawdicures loud and clear.

Luckily these two don't use their claws to harm anyone or anything,

but with nails like Lux's it's particularly painful when he gets the need to knead.

What works for you?

Any tips or tricks for a successful pawdicure?

Or should we just leave those monster claws alone?

We have not had one vomit experience since we last wrote :-)

Both kitties are feeling great,

and spending their time catchin' up on bird TV.

Furiends, we need your purrs.

Over the past week we've been catching Lux

throwing up about once or twice a day,

and we've been finding surprise vomit everywhere.

Last night we were woken up three times,

once from Lux vomiting, and twice from Teddy doing the same!

No change in appetite,

just as much energy as ever,

but two very barfy kitties!

We haven't changed their food,

we can't think of anything they could have gotten into,

and we're worried sick!

Today both kitties were carted off to the V-E-T for a check up.

Their temperatures were normal,

but the vet did notice that Lux was a little dehydrated.

Both kitties were given shots to help with the nausea for the next 24 hours,

and Luxington was given a dose of fluids.

Hopefully the vomiting stops soon so that we can all rest easy !!!

Christmas Presents!

From the moment the bags and boxes were placed under our tree,

the kitties were excited and curious about their presents.

Even typically well-mannered Luxington started snooping around...

It was very exciting when the time finally came for unwrapping.

The kitties warmed up by helping Mom and Dad open

the presents we'd gotten for each other...

...Luxington liked my new shirt so much

that he tried to steal it...

… and then, with the first box opened,

he took over the VIP seating.

As soon as us pawents were done exchanging our gifts,

it was time for the kitties to open up theirs...

… and sharing, unfortunately,

was suddenly not an option.

For awhile there was more fighting than unwrapping...

… but eventually the wrestling was finished,

and Lux and Teddy's gifts were revealed...

The catnip within calmed (and excited) the kitties;

the fighting ended and the playing commenced.

And then... stockings!!!

What a Merry Christmas it was :-)

We hope everyone's holiday was as wonderful as ours!

Teddy and the Christmas Tree

This year is our first Christmas with Tetra.

Last year, her first Christmas ever,

she spent the holiday with her foster family.

We should have known what we were in for this year,

the pictures from Teddy's adoption ad told it all...

To think... the personality of a kitten curious enough

to cause trouble and climb Christmas trees

was one of the things that drew us towards adopting her...

and now we spend our holiday season on guard,

making sure no trees fall over and no kitties get hurt.

We weren't even done setting up the tree before the mischief began...

Even without the ornaments on yet,

Teddy was already obsessed.

“So, we meet again!”

Meanwhile, Luxington behaved perfectly,

keeping watch over all boxes involved.

Fortunately, with the passing of time and

a very close watch on our little trouble maker,

Teddy's antics have evolved from constant attempts to climb the tree...

… to constantly resting under the twinkling lights,

trying VERY hard to resist any off limit temptations...

After opening our wedding presents,

we had a lot of empty boxes.

We contemplated making one gigantic fort out of them,

but even Lux and Teddy seemed overwhelmed by the task.

Instead, we decided to make one awesome moderately sized fort.

Introducing... The Cantina.

This three room fortress has been up since August

and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

Luxington wouldn't allow it.

Today is Luxington's maybe birthday!
Guesstimated based on his estimated age at the time we adopted him.
He is possibly officially two years old today!

Our little man is growing up so fast!

He elected to spend his birthday morning cuddled up in bed.

He is becoming more and more cuddly as he gets older :-)
