Every once in a while a special car comes along that really speaks of muscle car history and this is that car. In 1965 Ford had been rebuffed by the sports Car Club of America, the sanctioning body for amateur sports car racing in this country, when they attempted to get the Mustang accepted as a sports car. The fiercely independent SCCA did not appreciate being leaned on by a large mega buck corporation. So Ford turned to their resident performance expert, Carroll Shelby. Instead of trying to steamroll the SCCA, Shelby applied some good-ole-boy massaging. The SCCA said in order for his cars to be sanctioned, they would have to be two seaters, have a modified engine or suspension, but not both and there would have to be 100 of them. Thats where this car comes into the picture. this GT350 is car serial number 69. one of the original cars that allowed the GT350 to be sanctioned by the SCCA. What makes this special car so unique is that it actually raced brand new in 1965 at the SCCA. This car raced in the SCCA and took 1st place in B production and 8th over all at the Daytona Nationals. This car made history doing what Carroll Shelby and Ford had in mind and took 1st place doing it !!! The Carrera GT is powered by an all-new 5.7 litre V10 engine producing 612 SAE horsepower (450 kW). Porsche claims it will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.5 mph) in 3.9 seconds and has a maximum speed of 330 km/h (206 mph), although road tests indicated that in actuality the car could accelerate from 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds and to 0-100 in 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 335-340km/h (209-212.5mph). The Carrera GT has a basic 5 colour paint schemes which include: Black, Guards Red, Fayence Yellow, Basalt Black, GT Silver and Seal Grey. A six-speed manual transmission is the only available transmission, in contrast to its rival the Ferrari Enzo which is only offered with sequential manual transmission. With the Ferrari Enzo priced around $660,000, the Carrera GT base price of $448,400 makes the dream of owning a piece of Le Mans inspired technology somewhat more attainable. The Carrera GT is also priced at $559,000 in Canadian dollars, and at 390,000 in Euros.

The Carrera GT has large side inlets and airdams that help cool the large V-10 that lies framed by the carbon fibre rear hood. Fitted with Porsche's latest brake system, the 15 inch ceramic pad brakes make a stunning appearance underneath the 19 inch front and 20 inch rear tires. Similar to other Porsche Models, the GT includes an automated rear wing spoiler which deploys in the higher ranges of speed (70 mph).

Technology of note includes a pure carbon fibre monocoque and subframe, dry-sump lubrication and inboard suspension. The carbon fibre monocoque and subframe were produced and assembled by the ATR Composites Group of Italy. The main innovation on this vehicle however is the use of a ceramic clutch. This is the first appearance of this race car technology in a road car. The clutch, although difficult to master, allows the engine to sit lower in the chassis than in any other super car, both improving its aerodynamics and lowering its center of gravity.

Despite a seemingly difficult clutch, Porsche incorporated computer management of the clutch when the car is on an incline. Drivers are able to lift completely off the clutch and not stall the car.

Unlike some of its rivals, the Carrera GT does not use the same electronic driving aids such as dynamic stability control, but it does have traction control. Porsche engineers have designed a communicative chassis and rely on the ability of the driver.

Introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show - unlike previous models introduced at either the Frankfurt or Geneva shows - the 300SL was best known both for its distinctive gullwing or butterfly wing doors and for being the first-ever gasoline-powered car equipped with fuel injection directly into the combustion chamber.

The gullwing version was available from March 1955 to 1957. In Mercedes-Benz fashion, the "300" referred to the engine's cylinder displacement; in this case, three liters. The "SL" as applied to a roadster stood for "Sport Leicht" or "Sport Light."

The gullwing doors, hinged at the roof and so named because the open doors resembled a bird's outstretched wings, were implemented as such to accommodate for the car's tubular chassis, designed by DBAG's chief developing engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut. Part of the chassis passed through what would be the lower half of a standard door. This tubular chassis was a necessity, as the original car was designed solely for racing and needed to be as light as possible while still providing a high level of strength. This required the driver and his/her passengers to do some gymnastics to get in or out of the car, usually by sitting on and sliding across the wide door sill. A steering wheel with a tilt-away column made the process considerably easier.

Today, the 300SL with its unique doors and technological firsts is considered one of the most collectible Mercedes-Benz of all time, with prices reaching well past the $600,000 mark.

Duesenberg was a US-based luxury automobile company active from 1913 to 1937.

In 1913 the Duesenberg Brothers, Fred and August, founded Duesenberg Automobile & Motors Company, Inc. in Des Moines, Iowa, at 8th and Grand Ave, to build sports cars. Born in 1876 and 1879 in Germany, the two brothers were self-taught engineers and built many experimental cars. Duesenberg cars were considered some of the very best cars built at the time, and were built entirely by hand. In 1914 Eddie Rickenbacker drove a "Duesy" to finish in 10th place at the Indianapolis 500 and a Duesenberg car won the race in 1924, 1925, and 1927. 1923 saw the only use of the Duesenberg as the pace car at the Indianapolis 500. In 1921, Jimmy Murphy became the first American to win the French Grand Prix when he piloted a Duesenberg to victory at the Le Mans racetrack.

Although the Duesenberg brothers were world-class engineers, they were unable to sell their Model A car, their first "mass-produced" vehicle (just 667 were ever made), which was considered very advanced, offering such features as dual overhead cams, four-valve cylinder heads and the first hydraulic brakes ever offered on a passenger car. Instead, the company went bankrupt and closed in 1922.

Model X Duesenbergs are very rare. According to Randy Ema, the country's top Duesenberg authority, only 13 Model X's were built. They fit in between the Duesenberg Model A and the famous Models J and SJ, which were built from 1929 to 1937. Only four known X's survive.

When it comes to cars, one mans vision has often provided hugely entertaining copy for motoring journalists. However, when that man is Luca di Montezemolo, boss of Ferrari, we tend to sit up and pay attention.

The Ferrari 550 Maranello was his baby, his concept, his personal indulgence from start to finish. Its successor, the 575M Maranello, also bears Lucas touch. Which means that its as good as modern supercars get.

One of the key differences between 550 and 575M is the option of a paddle-change sequential manual gearbox. Two fixed position alloy paddles sit behind the steering wheel, left for down changes and right for upshifts. Its about as good as such a system gets, which means lightning quick upshifts and peachy throttle-blipping downchanges, all marshalled by some clever software that prevents the driver from selecting a potentially inadvisable gear.

Of course, the excellent manual gearbox continues, but given that the F1 sequential box can swap cogs in a mere .22 of a second around half the time of a Ferrari test driver armed with a manual stick Ferrari quote two separate 0-60 times for the 575M, 4.0 seconds for the F1 and 4.25 seconds for the manual car.... Launched in 2002, it is essentially an updated Ferrari 550 featuring minor styling changes from Pininfarina. The 575M will be replaced by the 599 GTB for the 2007 model year.

Updates from the 550 include a renewed interior, but with substantial improvements inside, including bigger brake discs, a larger and more powerful engine, a different weight distribution, refined aerodynamics and fluid-dynamics and an adaptive suspension set-up (the four independent suspensions are also controlled by the gearbox, to minimize pitch throughout the 200-milliseconds gear shift). Two six-speed transmissions are available, a conventional manual gearbox and, for the first time on a Ferrari V12, Magneti Marelli's semi-automatic (sequential) 'F1' gearbox. The model number refers to the engine's capacity in litres, whilst the 'M' is an abbreviation of 'modificato' or 'modified'.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom is a luxury saloon automobile made by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a BMW subsidiary. It was launched in 2003 and is the first Rolls-Royce model made under the ownership of BMW.

BMW went to great lengths to distinguish the Phantom from their own range. Although some 15 percent of components are shared with other BMW models such as the BMW 7 Series, the Phantom retains the traditional Rolls-Royce design cues.

The intention was to avoid being seen as just an extension to the BMW range. When Mercedes introduced its Maybach luxury saloon, it was criticized of producing "the ultimate Mercedes" instead of a separately branded car. The car shared many components with and looked like the cheaper S-Class saloon. BMW learned from this lesson, selling the Phantom through separate dealerships where BMWs are not sold, while the Maybach showroom in London also sells the most basic of Mercedes models.

2001 Lamborghini : Diablo 6.0

The ultimate supercar -- The Lamborghini Diablo 6.0. This vehicle, built in year 2001, is one of the last 260 Lamborghini Diablos ever made. It was the end of an era. (The current model is the "Murcielago", which was designed and produced by Lamborghini through Audi's ownership). Only a handful of Orange Diablo 6.0's ever made it to the market. The actual name of the orange color is Arancio Atlas (PPG 0058). Orange is by far the rarest color as well, and also the most desirable. This last year of the Diablo was also the only year any in orange were ever available on a Diablo.

Less than 260 of these cars were built. 35% of so is the agreed upon number imported into the United States. First shown at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2000, it represented the final evolution stage of the Diablo. The entire car, with the exception of the roof and doors for safety, is made of cabon fiber. The entire car! The 6.0L V12 engine roars at 550bhp at 7100RPM. In addition to input valve variable timing, the Diablo 6.0 includes exhaust valve variable timing. The engine also came with titanium connecting rods and a lighter crankshaft to improve performance.

There are a few cars that can keep up with this car stock. Those that can have nowhere near the top speed to totally keep up. The Diablo 6.0 states a max speed of 205mph however several owners have clocked 220mph with radar.

This car is stock with a few exceptions. The wheels are 19" Lowenhart rims in the front and rear. The rims were at a cost of $15,000 and accented the same Arancio Atlas color to match the body color.

This Diablo 6.0 is famous as well. Its first owner (I am the second), was the musician, recording artist, and movie star, Busta Rhymes. You'll find pictures of it all over the Internet as it was featured in many magazines and car shows. When you see "Flipmode" embroidered on the headrests, that is his recording studios name (Flipmode Squad). As with all Diablo 6.0's, it has a Alpine CVA and 6-disc changer.

The entire vehicle is factory, with the exceptions of tha 3M Clear Bra that is on the vehicle (cant even see it in the pictures, can you!), the wheels, and the car was also converted to 2WD from 4WD (a necessary step to ensure that the larger rims do not have an adverse effect on the viscous coupling). This car had a brand new clutch installed at around 3000 miles from Lamborghini Orlando. There is a chip on the bumper that could be touched up, beyond that the paint is all original no accidents.... The Hummer H1 and the enthusiastic campaign from actor is a civilian vehicle based on the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), popularly known as the Humvee, which was created by AM General. The vehicle was produced from 1994 through 2006 .Originally released in the civilian market in 1994, the Hummer H1 owes its birth to the popularity of photos from Operation Desert StormArnold Schwarzenegger, who personally owns several variants of Hummer vehicles. GM announced that 2006 would be the last model year for the Hummer H1 with production winding down in June 2006, due to a new emission laws for Diesel engine vehicles which take effect in 2007. No version of the Hummer H1 ever produced would meet these new standards.

The Hummer H1 has three common variants: a convertible-like soft top, a four-door hard top pickup truck and a Wagon body version. Other less known variants include a two-door pickup truck and a four-door slantback. At this time, the convertible/soft top and the station wagon versions are the only ones available in the mass market. The two door and four door pickup versions are only available in fleet livery.

The Shelby Cobra was a Anglo-American sports car built in the 1960s. It was not the first car to combine a lightweight European chassis and aluminium body with a big American V8 engine, but it is possibly the most famous. The later, larger-engined cars are still among the highest-performing road vehicles ever sold.

The Cobra is probably the most cloned car in history; an astounding number of replica Cobras have been produced, to the extent that the originals are in a minority. Some are Shelby Cobra lookalikes, while others are perfect replicas in every detail. In some ways it could be argued that the best of the modern examples are superior to the original, having the benefit of decades of engineering advances and refinement. In 2004, Sports Car International named this car number two on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

The Ferrari F430 is a sports car automobile designed to replace the Ferrari 360. It debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. European left-hand drive sales began in November, 2004, but right-hand drive sales did not start until Spring 2005, and the United States did not get the F430 until Summer 2005.

The F430's chassis is heavily based on its predecessor, the 360. Internally, both cars are referred to with the same number (131), though the F430 has the Evoluzione tag attached to show that it features some major changes. Internally, the car is simply known as the "Evo".

The body has been redesigned to be more curvaceous and aerodynamic. Although the drag coefficient remains the same, downforce has been greatly enhanced. A great deal of Ferrari heritage is found in the car: at the rear, the Enzo's tail lights have been added, and that car's interior vents have been added to the F430 as well. The car's name has been etched into the outside of the Testarossa-styled driver's side mirror as was previously done with the F40. The large oval openings in the front bumper are remeniscent of Ferrari racing models from the 1960s, specifically the "sharknose" Formula One and 250 TR61 Le Mans cars of Phil Hill.

The Range Rover is a brand of automobile, the top luxury 4x4 ("four wheel drive" in British English) model of Land Rover. The Range Rover was built on a box section ladder type chassis, much like the contemporary Series Land Rover, but utilised coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanent four wheel drive, disc brakes all round and powered by the lightweight Rover V8 engine of 3528 cc (3947 cc in later variants). The vehicle proved popular in the UK and elsewhere in the world.

The Range Rover's exterior will be updated for 2006 along with the expected replacement of the BMW V8 with a Ford unit. The new engine choices will be based on Jaguar's AJ-V8, and include a 4.4 L 305 hp (227 kW) or 4.2 L 400 hp (298 kW) supercharged option. This new Range Rover will be shown for the first time at the 2005 North American International Auto Show and will be released for sale in the summer.

In addition, the 2006 Range Rover is equipped with an updated "infotainment" system. This includes a touch screen with on and off-road navigation, radio, CD, Satellite Radio (US), telephone and other additional features all accessed via the same user interface. The audio system is Harman Kardon Logic7 surround sound. Also available is a DVD rear seat entertainment which is fully integrated.

This system is linked by a fibre optic network known as Media Oriented Systems Transport or MOST. A similar system is also used on Land Rover Discovery and Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

This truly is as close to an new Alfa Romeo GTV as you'll get! It got first place at the Malibu Alfa Romeo Concourse a few months ago.

I started with a rust free, original, California car and did a nut and bolt restoration. Every item on the car has been restored or replaced. The engine was totally rebuilt to European spec along with the transmission, brakes, suspension and steering. The car was stripped to bare metal and then resprayed. The interior was pulled out and retrimmed in leather instead of vinyl. The exact same seat pattern was used to keep it as true and original as possible. The dash wood was ordered from Europe and replaced and the dash its self was redone not capped. All the bumpers were polished and the other chrome work on the car is news.... The Alfa Romeo Alfetta until was an executive saloon car and fastback coupé produced from 19721984 by Alfa Romeo. It was popular due to its combination of a modest design with powerful engines, selling over 400,000 units until the end of its production run, but in the final years its sales were down due to Alfa Romeo's reliability problems that plagued the company through the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Alfetta was the base for the GTV, a fastback coupé version of the saloon, introduced in 1974 as Alfetta GT, initially available only with the 1.8 litre (1779cc) version of the Alfa DOHC four. For 1976, with the final phasing out of the earlier 105 Series 1.3 and 1.6 litre coupes (GT 1300 Junior and GT 1600 Junior) and the 2.0 litre 105 series 2000 GTV, the Alfetta GT became a range, also available with the 1.6 litre (1570cc) and 2.0 litre (1962cc) versions of the same engine as the Alfetta GT 1.6, Alfetta GT 1.8 and Alfetta GTV 2000. The GTV designation was initially reserved for the 2.0 litre top version.

The Ford GT began as a concept car designed in anticipation of Ford's centennial year and as part of its drive to showcase and revive its "heritage" names such as Mustang and Thunderbird. Camillo Pardo the head of Ford's "Living Legends" studio is credited as the chief designer of the GT and worked under the guidance of Jay Mays. The designers drew inspiration from Ford's classic GT40 race cars of the 1960s and the GT is sometimes mistaken for its 1960s counterpart.

Positive response on the auto show circuit in 2002 helped persuade the company to produce the car in limited quantities, and the first production versions appeared in 2003. It is a very high-performance, two-seater vehicle with a strong styling resemblance to its racing ancestor and performance to match. The powerplant is a mid-mounted supercharged 5.4 liter V8, producing 550 horsepower (410 kW) and 500 foot-pounds (678 Nm) of torque. Top speed is over 200 mph (322 km/h).

In 1926, the Imperial, Chrysler’s top of the line performance and luxury option became a model in its own right and an instant legend. Its astonishing looks were matched by its quickness and speed. The 1930 saw the continued tradition of luxurious power; however, changes in the economy with the market crash brought demand close to a standstill. Very few CL Imperials were produced. The 1932 and 1933 CLs are considered to be Chrysler’s finest and most desirable automobile.

This truly stunning 1933 Chrysler CL Imperial Dual Cowl Phaeton is a rare luxury automobile. The Chrysler Imperial, introduced in 1926, was the company's top of the range vehicle for much of its history.

The Chrysler Imperial was redesigned in 1931. The car received a new engine, a 6.3 L I8. Marketing materials for this generation of Imperial referred to the car as the "Imperial 8" in reference to the new engine. The engine would be found in many other Chrysler vehicles. The redesign also saw the introduction of new wire wheels that would became the standard wheel treatment until the 1940s. Stock car driver Harry Hartz set numerous speed records with an Imperial sedan at Daytona Beach, Florida.

We recently purchased this car from a collector in Japan who took very good care of it. Although originally a U.S. model, 15285 was carefully converted to full European look during restoration about six years ago. The larger U.S. bumpers were removed and replaced with the more attractive smaller ones. The smog equipment was removed and the gauges even changed too. The odometer reading on this car is not correct and all purchase documents on this car will read “True Mileage Unknown.”

Driving Impressions:
15285 is a very reliable driver that is truly fun on the road. The brakes feel firm and the car accelerates and stops in a straight line. In the past two months, this car was driven from our showroom to two Concours events. The first trip was to Julian (40 miles) which involves a long twisty climb up a local mountain and the other was to Beverly Hills (125 miles in traffic) on a hot Sunday. Thanks to the strong mechanicals and excellent working Air-Conditioning, both trips were enjoyable. Two common criticisms of Daytonas aren’t really and issue with this car – the steering isn’t heavy and the exhaust smell in the cabin is minimal. READ MORE

The Ferrari Daytona (correctly named the 365 GTB/4) is a Gran Turismo automobile produced from 1968 to 1973. It was first introduced to the public at the Paris Auto Salon in 1968 and replaced the 275GTB/4 but, although it was also a Pininfarina design (by Leonardo Fioravanti), the Daytona was radically different. Its sharp-edged styling resembled a Lamborghini more than a traditional Pininfarina Ferrari. The Daytona name commemorates Ferrari's triple success in the February 1967 24 Hours of Daytona with the 330P4. While it was initially used as a pre-production internal denomination, Ferrari still insists that this was never the model's official name and as such should not be used when referring to the car in any true manner.

Unlike Lamborghini's new Miura, the Daytona was a traditional front-engined, rear-drive car. Customers were disappointed that Ferrari stuck with this layout unlike with the race cars, and the Daytona was replaced by the mid-engined 365 GTB Berlinetta Boxer in 1973. Today, the car represents the last of the great front engine Ferrari GTs before this layout was revived in the 1990s.

The engine, known as a Tipo 251 and developed from the earlier Lampredi V12 used in the 275 GTB/4, was a 4.4 L (4390 cc) DOHC V12 with a 60° bank angle, 365 cc per cylinder, 81 mm bore and 71 mm stroke, featuring six Weber twin carburettors (40mm Solex twin carburettors were used alternatively). At a compression ratio of 9.3:1, it produced 352 bhp DIN (259 kW) and could reach 280 km/h (174 mph). 0-60 mph acceleration was just 5.4 seconds. For the American version, slight modifications were made - the compression ratio was reduced to 8.8:1 and the exhaust system was equipped with a large central silencer, necessitating visible alterations to the primary pipes.

The 5-speed manual transmission (Transaxle concept) was mounted in the rear for optimal weight distribution, and a 4-wheel independent suspension featured wishbones and coil springs.

Early Daytonas featured fixed headlights behind a plexiglass cover. This particular setup was completely abandoned in favor of pop-up twin headlights when lobbying efforts by the CAS led to a variety of new safety regulations for U.S. road traffic in 1970, one of which concerning minimum ride height.

Lotus Elise

The Lotus Elise is a roadster conceived in early 1994 and released in September 1995 by the English manufacturer Lotus Cars. The car has a hand finished fiberglass body shell atop its innovative aluminium extrusion frame that provides a rigid platform for the suspension, while keeping weight and production costs to a minimum. The Elise was named after then Lotus' chairman Romano Artioli's granddaughter, "Elisa".

Series 1
The design philosophy of Lotus is "Performance through low weight", a philosophy first adopted by the founder of Lotus, Colin Chapman. The motto drives Lotus to obtain very high performance with lightweight cars in spite of their relatively modest power outputs, with a strong emphasis on driving purity and dynamics. This concept was taken to an extreme by the London-based engineer Max David.

The result is a sports car which weighed in at less than 680 kg (1500 lb). The production version of the 1996 Lotus Elise tipped the scales at an unprecedented 675 kg (1488 lb). Compare this to a Porsche Boxster which is also considered to be an extremely lightweight sports car but weighs nearly twice as much - 1250 kg (2756 lb).

As a result the Elise's acceleration, braking, cornering, and fuel consumption (all of which are improved by reductions in a car's weight) was nothing short of astonishing in spite of the fact that the engine put out a relatively modest 120 bhp (89 kW). Compare that to 201 bhp (149 kW) produced by the 1997 Porsche Boxster.

Series 2
Announced on October 9th 2000, the Series 2 Elise was a redesigned Series 1 using a slightly modified version of the Series 1 chassis and the same K-series engine with a brand new Lotus-developed ECU.

The design of the body paid homage to the still-born M250 project and was the first Lotus to be designed on computer. The Series 2 Elise is built on the same production line also created for the Vauxhall VX220/Opel Speedster in a newer facility at Hethel. Both cars shared many parts, including the chassis, although they have totally different drivetrains and powerplants. The Vauxhall / Opel version has since ceased production.

The series 2 was also available as a 111S model, with the VVT engine technology. Also released was the Lotus Sport 160, which is a Lotus 111S Series 2 with the additional track handling package. The 111S models were discontinued in 2005.
