Diwali DIY- Tealight Holder | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

Hello dear readers!! How are the preparations for Diwali going on.

I am almost done, I designed and sewed lots of cushions, painted and decorated few pots, my Indian art gallery wall is ready and I am beaming with pride, house is clean and sparkling, furnishings have been changed, all my silverwares are out and shining, fairy lights are being given their right places and my home is basking in the warmth of the lights.

I am sure you are all set for the biggest festival. But let 3D bring some more light and happiness around your home. I am here with the easiest DIY for Diwali. My last year's Diwali DIY on my YouTube channel is about to cross 2 lakh views (Click here to watch).
This year's Diwali DIY is quite an easy craft. So without much ado here is a tutorial for you to make beautiful tealight holders.
Supplies:
Hard plastic disposable cup (in any shape)
Flat back pearls
Acrylic stones/rhinestones (in your choice of color)
String of tiny beads
Glue

Here are some images how I styled these tealight holders.

In a decorative tray or platter place some colorful beads or water gel beads. You can fill the tray with petals also for perfect festive ambiance. Now place the tealight holders and admire the beauty because handmade is more precious than the stuff you buy.

You can keep one tealight holder on a wooden box or any colorful glass votive to add some dimension.

There Is No Place Like Home | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

I have often blogged about how blogging has inspired me and changed my life for the better.
Today I want to tell you, my dear readers, how my home has inspired me to do things that I have never done before. Today, I am exploring and acknowledging a part of my personality that has been pivotal in shaping my life and the work I do.

My home inspires me to be creative.
It all started when my husband and I bought our home, a place where we weave memories together as we live and grow. I go the extra mile to decorate my home so that it showcases my personal style. Whether it's a wall or a piece of furniture, everything in my home is a reflection of my personality.

The stark and plain walls of the new house inspired me to put a stamp of my creative expression on them so that every wall in my home has a story to tell. The hand-painted mural on a wall in the foyer is an apt example of how my home inspires me to be creative.

Family pictures on the wall in our living room bring back lots of fond memories and quite often I try to steal a moment to relive those happy memories and it is a great stress buster. I like to weave memories into my home d�cor by showcasing all the souvenirs my husband and I have collected over the years.

My home inspires me to bring best out of me.
I work from home and I am madly in love with my job. I wear many hats and working from home allows me to easily switch between my roles as the situation demands. A calming and comforting environment of my home soothes me whenever I feel exhausted after working for long hours. I step out on my balcony garden and a waft of pleasant mild floral fragrances make everything alright once again.
My home inspires me to put my best foot forward and to do things perfectly. It inspired me to create my workspace to stay productive and focused. And I admit that my home office emanates positivity and warmth, I call it a little slice of heaven in my home.

My home inspires me to be loving.
Every house is made of bricks and mortar but home is made of love. My home inspires me to be a loving person. A daughter, daughter-in-law, wife, mother, sister, friend; no matter what role I am playing, my home inspires me to be comforting, generous, kind, caring and loving. I feel complete when my family finds peaceful respite from the hustle bustle of the city at home with me

Mirror Work Cushion Cover And Its Companion | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

Hello my favorite people!!

Hope you all had an amazingly wonderful festive season. Diwali is over, vacations are over, I have overcome post-vacation blues, it's Monday and it's time to get back to work.

One of my cushion covers that I designed and stitched got so many compliments on Instagram. This yellow mirror work cushion cover is my personal favorite too and it was a blingy addition to my festive decor.

Blooming Calandiva in my garden tempted me to bring it indoors and then clicked the idea of giving a makeover to the pot that holds Calandiva. I thought of painting a pot in a way that complements my mirror work cushion.

So I just painted the pot in color matching to the cushion and stuck mirrors on it. Voila!! The cushion cover now has a companion. A pot that is perfectly complementing the cushion and making the arrangement in my living room so cohesive and pulled together.

Here is a closer look for you. Isn't it cool and easy-peasy color coordination idea. Fresh and lovely blooms of kalanchoe are popping beautifully against the yellow color.

This festive season I dared to mix cool and warm colors together. And instead of shimmering brass, I opted for shiny silver this time around. It sure was a perfect and happy color scheme.

I added greens in abundance to give a jungalow style twist to my festive decor. Fairy lights hung here and there completed my festive decor. Will share some images soon.

My "Indian Art Gallery Wall" is complete though beautification is an ongoing process and I promise to post about it soon. Till then here's a sneak peek :)

Bird Cage Styling | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

Okay!! So here I am with my teal bird cage.
You know what this lovely bird cage allows me to play with my creative imagination. I style it in various ways without the fear of going wrong.

It's so handy and aesthetically appealing that I can move it just about anywhere in my home and it sure adds the pizazz to the place. So far I have used it to decorate my living room, home office, bedrooms and balcony garden too. That's not all, styling it with different stuff gives a totally different look every time and that's what I love about it.

Let's start with living room and see how I used various decor objects to style this teal bird cage and you will find surprising outcome every time. In below picture, I wrapped fairy lights around the bird cage randomly and to add a punch of color I placed tealights in bright colors and blooming Kalanchoe that matches the tealight. What creates a calming effect here is this Buddha head that complements teal bird cage beautifully.

Now if you wish to keep things simple and don't want to use lots of color then below image will surely win your heart. The object is same, I wrapped fairy lights around the bird cage in the same manner but this time instead of adding lots of color I used only shades of blue. Also, I paired the cage with healthy lush green Pothos. Wall shelves above this entire setting are sporting the knick-knacks in the accent color and some greens too.

Colors play a major role in creating an eye-pleasing display. If you carefully pick the colors to create a vignette then you sure are a winner. In below picture teal and fuchsia make a beautiful color combination.

Now I would like to shift your attention from colors to seasons. As we change our food and wardrobe according to the season we should also change the home decor to reflect the particular season. I am the kind of person who gets bored of the same look of a place easily so the change in seasons gives me the opportunity to give a makeover to my home too.

Let me ask, how would you style a cage in the monsoon? Did you say by placing candles inside it!! oh boy, you are my kind of person. I clubbed together aroma pillar candles in varied sizes on a shell platter and placed the cage above this arrangement and let me tell you the vignette was the conversation starter.

Now let's take a look at the other part of my living room where I usually hang Moroccan lamp but the idea of hanging the bird cage as pendant light clicked and there it hangs. It remained there for a while until I thought it should be on my coffee table.

And there it is on my coffee table as it is in the company of a cheerful watering can with some greens. Color of it is just popping amidst all the yellows and orange. Sometimes I keep tiny planters inside it to add a little bit of drama.

A wall in the guest bedroom is cobalt blue in color and sets a perfect background for this teal bird cage. What else can look more beautiful than strings of shiny white pearls against the striking color of the wall. Hence I loosely attached few strings of pearls on the birdcage and paired it with glass candle and aroma diffuser.

Now come step out onto my balcony and have a look how this simple birdcage can beautify the surroundings. Like I said, I keep changing the decor of my home according to the season the same way I love to change the look of my balcony garden quite often. So birdcage sometimes moves to the garden. Whether I place it over a pot or hang it in the garden, magic of it is always spellbinding.

Here is the colorful corner of my balcony garden. With painted pots and blooms in vivid colors it is always a treat to my senses to sit and have my evening cuppa here.

The beauty of this birdcage can't be described in words and through images. And moreover, I doubt my photography skills, I click hundreds of pictures and then realise that none of them is doing justice. Nonetheless, I am learning and inching towards perfection.

DIY Bonsai Planter | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

My work is keeping me from my blog and I just hate this.

I can't stay away from it and my lovely readers for long so I took out some time and created this DIY bonsai planter tutorial especially for my dear readers.

Few months ago I tried my hands at creating bonsais. I created four bonsais jade, bougainvillaea, jasmine and ixora out of which only three survived. Ixora died because it was a wrong selection of the plant to create a bonsai. But I think three out of four was a good result for the first timer like me. I had started jade in the last week of September and just in two-three months it started looking a lot like bonsai. But its pot was quite boring so I decided to give it a makeover. After all, if your bonsai takes the shape of real bonsai its pot should look like a pretty bonsai pot too.
Tip: Jade is the simplest plant to start with if you too wish to create a bonsai.
Gosh!! I talk a lot. Now let's start the tutorial without much ado.

For the DIY enthusiast like me acrylic colours, white M-seal(epoxy clay) and clear varnish are quite versatile art & craft supplies. You just put on your thinking cap and there are numerous things you can make using these three simple supplies. In this DIY tutorial, we are going to use the same supplies.

I drew a rough sketch of the pattern I wanted on the bonsai pot so that I can glue epoxy clay accordingly. To know how to use epoxy clay and how to make shapes using epoxy clay check out my previous post Lippan work tutorial and DIY Owl planter tutorial. These two blogs will give you a fair idea on how to work with clay. So the first three steps would be drawing a design on the pot, preparing clay and making shapes to stick on the pot.

Here is how I made the patterns using clay and stuck the clay on bonsai pot. Good enough to go ahead and paint it.

This time I chose distressed finish for my bonsai planter otherwise in all my previous works I have always preferred a fresh and clean look. I chose mint green for the clay patterns and painted it first.

For the rest of the pot I chose Persian blue and painted it when mint green was dried completely. First I painted the rim of the planter.

Then I added some more water in Persian blue color to make it bit runny and painted rest of the pot including clay patterns. See the below picture, this is how it looked after painting.

While the color was still wet I dabbed a soft cloth gently on the clay patterns only. It revealed the mint green color and I loved the distressed look.

Here is how the bonsai pot is looking with jade bonsai in it. Now it's time to decorate the bonsai pot with some accessories to complete the look.

I used some pebbles, shells and tiny birds made out of shells to beautify the pot. Here is a closer look for you. Did you spot one little birdie sitting on the branch of jade bonsai.

The bonsai planter turned out the way I had wished and it sits pretty on my coffee table now.

Tip: Sometimes handmade stuff should be given the opportunity to beautify the place instead of fancy looking expensive stuff.

The festival season has begun.

The first day of Chaitra month or Gudi Padwa marks the beginning of the new year according to lunar Hindu calendar, also known as Ugadi, Yugadi, Navreh, Cheti Chand and Samvatsar Padvo in other states. Each festival in India is primarily associated either with the transition of seasons or harvesting of crops and every celebration begins with house cleaning and decorating. How busy people may be but they take the time out to do all the cleaning before the commencement of the festivities. Why not! a clean home is a pivotal part of all the festivities.

Now that Chaitra Navratri is just around the corner let's talk about some house cleaning and decorating. During this festive season let your surroundings speak about your personality. Here are some tips and tricks to get the home ready for festivals:

Declutter:

Decluttering the place can make your home look spacious, clean, organized and full of positive energy. It is said that the things that are no longer in use and are broken or in a bad shape create a negative energy in and around the house. I agree with this statement wholeheartedly as hoarded junk not only takes up all the space but also make your home look cluttered and unorganized and this, in turn, affects your stress level.

Get rid of the clutter and make free space to move around easily. Once decluttered your space now needs some serious cleaning. So put on the gloves and let's make your space shine and sparkle.

Clean:

Cleanliness is godliness. I love to see every nook and corner of my home shining and sparkling. No cobwebs, no dust, no spots and stains, no stinky smell in washrooms/toilets, no grease on the cabinet doors and chimney and no cockroaches in the kitchen that's how a home must be kept.

Cleaning the kitchen may seem the daunting task but I would suggest always start from the kitchen and from the right side of the stove and then go clockwise around the kitchen. Clean the stove and chimney in the last. This will ensure that you wouldn't be spreading dirt, grime and grease everywhere.

Kitchen sink contains even more bacteria than a toilet seat and I always make sure that I disinfect, clean with mild soap, hydrogen peroxide and vinegar and buff my stainless steel sink after each dish wash. For buffing take a few drops of mineral oil on a soft cloth and wipe the sink and tape to make them sparkle. This prevents the growth of mold and calcium buildup.

Now clean all the cabinet doors and handles using mild soap on a sponge and wipe them clean with a damp cloth. In the same way, you can clean all your kitchen appliances. Clean the stove and chimney in the last using detergent and scrubber.

Take special care of bathrooms. It's better to wipe the floor, walls, faucet and shower after each shower to prevent the water stains and calcium buildup. If you can't do it everyday then try to do it once in a week. You can rub few drops of lemon oil on glass shower doors once or twice in a month to make it look clean and shiny all the time. Wash the shower curtains once in a month to remove mold and mildews. To clean the toilet bowl put a teaspoon full of a drink that contains citric acid (drinks that have tangy taste) in the bowl and leave it for few minutes and then flush .
For all the other rooms, start from the ceiling and work your way down. Remove all the cobwebs, clean fans and light fixtures using a damp cloth (make sure you have turned off the power), clean all the windows and doors, dust all the furniture, clean the glass surfaces using a microfiber cloth and in the last mop the floor. There you have it, a neat, clean and sparkling my kind of home.

Decorate:

After decluttering and cleaning the home, dress it up beautifully. Change the curtains, cushions and rug to give a completely new look to your home. If you wish to use old ones then give a nice wash and then use them.
Create a festive ambiance by placing some metal or wood figurines and surround them with fresh flowers, tealights/votives and candles to make the place look divine.

Add greenery by bringing in some indoor plants and place them in a place where they sit most comfortably. Add festive cheer by drawing rangoli at the entrance and placing an uruli full of flowers floating in it. Put on the soft lights to create a warm and welcoming ambiance.

Expressing gratitude is a wonderful thing. Read my last year's blog on Gratitude and you will start believing in my statement!! That's why every year I take a moment to express gratitude.
I started writing my blog in October 2010 and it has been a fascinating journey thus far. Six years and 3D is still going strong. Let me start with some of the sweet notes I received from my dear readers during this beautiful journey. Such messages keep me going!!

You are my biggest strength dear readers, you light up my life in so many ways and you all are one of the reasons why even after six years of blogging I still love it rather love it more than ever. Not a big deal right!! No, it's definitely a big deal for me. With very little time in my hands, I kept alive my passion for blogging and every single reader, fan, follower or subscriber I earned is a huge success for me.
Last month I got the opportunity to make a dream a reality, my interview was aired on RadioOne Pune and here is a video I created with an audio clip of my radio interview and visuals of 3D's journey till date.

Now I want to share two big news. First news is that I am creating a coloring book for adults and I am super excited. I am working on it and half way through it. While creating "Indian Art Gallery Wall" for my living room, I painted various Indian art forms and shared the images on my blog as well as social media platforms and from readers' comments I got the idea of creating a colouring book. Indian art forms are regaining their lost charm and people around the world are just crazy about Indian folk paintings. So the theme I chose for my coloring book is 'Indian Art Forms'. Let me assure you that you will find all the drawings unique, authentic and awesome. Just wait for a month or two and the coloring book will hit the online stores.

Now the second and equally exciting news is that I am venturing into a business. Though I was selling my handmade products and paintings on a smaller scale till now but now I am planning something big. Right now I am working hard on designing products and getting them made by trained craftsmen. First few products have been designed and now craftsmen are working on them. Hopefully the products will make their appearance in Jan 2017. I am having sleepless nights and need your good wishes, encouragement and support.
I have just one more and probably the last blog of this year and after that I will be going on a gadget free vacation with my family. You all have a lovely time ahead.

Make The Atmosphere In Your Home As Beautiful As The Decor | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

I am a very well organised and meticulous person when it comes to my home so home
odours have never been a problem. But the stickler for freshness that I am, I cannot help but
continuously try to make my home smell better!

Don't you think that a particular smell or fragrance is so strongly associated with our brain that the moment that particular smell reaches our olfactory receptors it brings back a lot of memories. A particular smell can easily transport you to the place where you have been to once. For an instance, the smell of unappetizing foods can take you to neighbour aunt's home whose home's smell and food you never liked as a child.

The problem with house smell is that the homeowner remains unaware of it or they become used to it and can't smell it the way other people can do. Between food, pollution and unattended water puddles, the odour of your home is something you might not notice.

Do you think your home does not smell well enough? Are you boggled as to why despite all the efforts, there seems to be something amiss with the freshness? Here is how you can keep your home enveloped in an ambience of freshness.

How to make your home smell better:
We are all well aware that urban apartments are spatially challenged. This is the most common reason why the odour lasts for long in tiny apartments. Your home may not exactly be smelling bad, but it may lack a certain freshness which is often almost impossible to detect.

The smell can arise from various sources like cooking, pet odour, old furniture, carpet, mold, cigarette smoke, trash cans, smelly bathrooms or sometimes even a strong body odour can contribute to house smell. If you are able to find out the source of smell you have already won half the battle. Now let's fix the issue.

If unappetizing food or cigarette/cigar smoke is the cause of house smell just open up the windows and let the fresh air circulate in your home. Now spray some best smelling air fresheners for home, I have Godrej aer spray and it works just amazingly. Your home will smell inviting and fresh. They have a special fragrance � Musk after Smoke that does wonders to mask the smoke smell. I use it frequently post parties at home.

What if old furniture, carpets, and trash cans are the offenders. Then house cleaning, steam cleaning or vacuuming the carpet, repainting the furniture and emptying trash can regularly are the solutions to the house smell problem but if you don't wish to spend a lot on all these then air freshener spray is the answer. If you have guests coming over, it�s great to get your home and bathrooms smelling fresh and ready to set the mood for the party.

Next comes the odour from pets that can be really annoying because if you are staying with them, it is almost certain you will not be able to identify it as a cause. Give your pets a nice bath and try to keep them clean regularly. Get them house trained. Once you have fixed the problem it's time to fill your home with a long lasting fragrance. Yes! I am talking about air freshener.

Toilets smell for obvious reasons. Maintaining them well and cleaning them regularly can totally dissipate the smell. Make sure that after cleaning the toilets you use the best bathroom freshener that doesn't fade with time.

These are some tips I follow religiously to make my home smell amazing all the time. After all, your home is your den where you stay day in and day out and you know well how smells have a great impact on our mood. So, encourage a cheerful disposition with a fresh, beautiful home aroma.

Bharatanatyam Inspired Home Decor | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

Spotlight on Indian art forms and incorporating them into home decor

has been the soul of Design Decor & Disha since the very beginning and last year apart from featuring famous Indian arts and crafts I got a chance to feature an Indian classical vocalist Chandra Kargupta. Till now 3D was devoid of a feature on Indian classical dance form but today's guest gave me the opportunity to present Bharatanatyam in a unique and very beautiful way and made my blog a versatile Indian Design & Decor blog. Before we go ahead and meet our guest let me enlighten you (especially readers from different countries) a bit on Bhatanatyam. Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest Indian classical dance forms originated in temples of Tamilnadu. The dance form is the hidden language of the soul, a beautiful way to narrate mythical legends and spiritual ideas from the Vedas and Upanishads gracefully with the gestures of hand, eyes and facial muscles.

Now let me introduce to you a very talented guest today on 3D who is Bharatanatyam dancer and will be going to tell us how the dance has influenced her decor style and how she incorporates natyam in home decor. Not only that, she will be going to speak her heart out on what is the Hidden Language of the Soul: Decor or Dance? Dear readers, please welcome Shivangi Nagarajan who is a decor enthusiast and recently started interior design and home decor blog Kadakchaitalks and she calls it her creative outlet. Both Shivangi and her husband Naren Ganeshan are Bharatanatyam dancers. They both have a deep appreciation for the art form and in fact, it was the dance that brought them together.

Both Naren and Shivangi look so graceful and divine in Bharatanatyam mudras and ensemble. The purity of their hearts is reflected through their eyes. It is the people like Shivangi & Naren who inherit the legacy from past, maintain it in the present and bestow for the benefit of the future generations and make us feel proud of our country.
Now for the today's topic, I would say we can easily draw an inspiration from nature, places or even art forms to decorate our home. You must have read my blog on 'Banaras Inspired Decor' that explains how a city inspired me to incorporate the look of it in my home decor. Similarly, now Shivangi will throw some light on how Bharatanatyam, a divine dance influenced her decor style. Hello everyone! My name is Shivangi Nagarajan, and I am a home decor enthusiast, a plant lover, and a Bharatanatyam dancer. I believe that art and beauty can be found in everything, be it in nature surrounding you, in art, or even in beautiful thoughts. My blog, �Kadak Chai Talks� is an amalgamation of my wanderings and ramblings as I explore design, art, and beauty. Being a student of dance has given me an aesthetic eye for detail and design, and I�ve tried to incorporate this in different ways in my humble abode.

Before I move on to share the details, I must say that I am not alone in this. My doting husband, Naren Ganesan, who also happens to be a Bharatanatyam dancer, helps me make decisions on decor choices for our home, and also shares a great eye for design. Ancient Indian temples were the birthing place of what is currently known as Bharatanatyam. These temples displayed skilful craftsmanship and most stood the test of time and can be seen even today. The below Vishnu statue is one such masterpiece that we recently added to our collection. This was purchased in Chennai by my husband during his last trip back home. You can see the attention to detail in the layers of his adornment and his serene eyes.

Dance in India mainly flourished under the reigns of many valorous kings and their dynasties. They patronised the art form and it was maintained by the devadasi system. I have heard stories from Indian historians and scholars about the survival of Bharatanatyam in South India and the important role played by the kings in helping dance thrive. These cushions are minimalistic in design and color, but the impressive handiwork and eye for detail make them a statement piece. The Raja and Rani perfectly compose our neutral loveseat.

When my husband and I laid our eyes upon the below horse statue, we immediately knew that it belonged in our home. The striking resemblance to some of the intricate sculptures seen in the temples of Tanjore immediately caught our fancy and of course, we had to bring him home.

Knowledge is often taken for granted, and its significance is usually realised only when we are lacking. Goddess Saraswathi, the giver of knowledge, most definitely belongs in a household that is cultivating and growing the dancers for tomorrow. This particular statue was our first purchase as a newly married couple and holds a special sentiment.

Also, brass offers a rich contrast against the red console table, on which I am also featuring my latest DIY attempt, the Mughal royal cameo paintings.

Of course, any Bharatanatyam dancer�s collection would be incomplete without a statue of Nataraja, the cosmic dancer and destroyer of evil. Given to me as a gift/blessing by my guru upon the completion of my Rangapravesha, this too holds a spot in my heart. On the other end is his son, Ganapathi, the remover of obstacles, and what�s special is that this particular statue is �Narthana Ganapathi�, meaning the dancing Ganesha. The clock was a wedding gift and features a Kathakali dancer, another South Indian classical dance form.

My husband and I also painted this abstract tree on some fabric that we have postered on the feature wall of our basement, which is also where my husband conducts dance lessons for his students.

Whether you�re a dancer or not, I think Indian art forms should be continually revived and preserved for the future generations. One simple way to do this would be through adding such decor pieces into your own homes and narrating a charming tale, all in the same. Before I start writing on a certain topic, I do a thorough research on it. While doing so I came across an Indian tiles and sanitary ware brand OASIS Tiles India. This is 3D's first home tour of the new year and 10th home tour till date.

And today I take y'all to the most populous city of UAE which is shopping haven

and is known for its nightlife, ultra-modern architecture and skyline dotted with skyscrapers. Yes, you guessed it right. Today's guest is joining us from Dubai and letting us take a peek inside her beautifully done home.

Dear Readers, Anamika is a multifaceted person. She is a family photographer who captures distinctive, candid family photos for her clients. You can take a look at her portfolio site Melanger Photography to know how beautifully she captures memories. She is a food blogger too who blogs at Taste Melanger and loves to bake in her spare time. She is an ardent follower of 3D and loves to decorate her nest in her own unique style. You can probably imagine the excitement and joy of moving into a new house and transforming it into a home. Anamika is going to share that joy with us today. Here's a tete-a-tete with Anamika where she talks about how she decorated her only a month old apartment in Dubai with her distinctive style.

3D: Describe your home in just a few words
Anamika: Serene, welcoming and stylish!!

3D: Tell us something about your home:

Anamika: We recently bought an apartment in Dubai and shifted here less than a month ago. Having our own place outside of the country felt special, and we were really excited to make this place into a cosy, welcoming abode. It�s a spacious 1650 sqft apartment with 2 bedrooms, study and store room.

When we saw this place we were immediately attracted to the lovely view of the Marina and the sea. Being on the 29th floor, the night views are amazing. Secondly, we have a huge park right under our building which also ensures that our kids get their daily dose of outdoor playtime.

It�s not even a month since we shifted here, so there is a lot to do, to enhance; but I�m so glad that Disha is covering it up on her blog and showering the home with all the love. Hope you all enjoy the tour!

Seen above is the image of Anamika's living room. I love how she plays with colours. She introduced red beautifully in her blue and white colour palette to break the monotony. Clever use of antique trunk as a coffee table not only adding an elegant touch but offering functionality as well. Now let's know more about Anamika and her decorating style in her own words.

3D: Tell us something about yourself
Anamika: Hi, readers of 3D; I�m Anamika, settled in Dubai with my husband and two cute kids. I�m a mother, a homemaker, a family photographer and food blogger. I love to bake in my free time and also browse through food and decor blogs. So it�s very easy to imagine how I get influenced by the visual media. Anything that�s pleasing to the eyes and smells yummy has a place in my heart and home :)

The other side of the living room serves as a dining room. Sleeper wood dining table is quite a statement piece here. Red table runner and candle stand in sap green blend well with the vintage chest at the other end of the dining room. White armoire with glass doors is adding French country cottage charm to the dining room in which Anamika proudly displays her collection of glassware.

3D: What�s your decorating style.

Anamika: I can�t really say that I have a particular decorating style since I like to mix things up until it feels right. But I do like a bit of quirky, lots of colours and stuff which has some character. Basically, all that which makes my home unique than the one next door. Else in the age of branded furniture stores, it's very easy to look alike. Also for me, a home has to have the warmth that welcomes you in..than just some expensive furniture kept together.

To sum up I would say my decor style is �Eclectic Cosy�

The beautiful and colourful vintage pop art buffet table is adding a joyful vibe with its cheerful colours and quirky texts.This buffet table sure is a perfect addition to the dining room to make it look 'Eclectic Cosy' and to define Anamika's unique taste. Below are some beautiful decor accents like grape vine carved wooden frame in a distressed finish to add old world charm and tea glasses and kettle in colour combination of teal and red for a kitschy look.

3D: Where do you get the inspiration from.

Anamika: Like they say inspiration is everywhere - books, nature, blogs but above all Pinterest is a source that one can get lost into. So when I got a chance to decorate my new pad, I surely felt excited about it and had hundreds of ideas floating in my head. The challenge was to simplify the look, to evaluate it practically and to merge the likes of all family members.

Like the blue textured tv wall in above image that my husband wanted..and then I planned rest of the things around in the room, to make it more cohesive. Or the neutral wallpaper and colour scheme that went for in the kids� room to satisfy both my son and daughter.

Colour palette in kids' room is fresh and gender neutral and also big on style. Pop of red and turquoise make the space come alive. You can never go wrong with the feature wall that displays kids' favourite creature Dinosaur. Overall feel of kids' room is cosy and great for both sleeping and playing.

Here is what Anamika has to say about statement pieces she and her husband bought for their apartment.

We went for solid wooden pieces for the furniture but wanted something which looked cheerful and wasn�t so heavy looking. So we ended up having quite a few statement pieces like the - antique chest which we use as coffee table, the vintage pop-art style buffet table which makes the whole room alive; or the sleeper wood dining table which adds lots of character to the dining space, or even the distressed office table in my bedroom which gives a good contrast to the modern comfy white chair. Even the �dinosaur wall� is quite a feature wall that everyone loves in the kids� room.

I really liked this study corner in Anamika's bedroom with a desk in distressed finish and dark tone. Ample light makes this spot perfect for reading or doing art and craft activity. Now let's ask Anamika about her fave spot in her home.

3D: Which is your favourite spot in your home and why.

Anamika: One of my favourite corner in the house is the swing corner in my living room where I love to relax with a book and tea and enjoy the lovely view outside.

3D: Please give your valuable advice on home decorating to d�cor enthusiast 3D readers!

Anamika: Always go with what you like than what the trend is, or what decor experts say. After all, home is your space; so simply surround yourself with your favourite things and you would have a home you love.

Try to visualise (if not creating a mood board) of the whole room or house, while picking furniture. As they say, a whole is bigger than the sum of its parts..so the bigger picture will keep you on track.

De-clutter. de-clutter and de-clutter. Clutter is the biggest negative element of the house..so keep it away.

How is the weather treating you. I am enjoying the last of the winter sun in my part of the world

and trying to infuse more warm colours around me.

I told you in my previous blog (Anamika's Home Tour) that I have One Good Thing for you so here it is- a set of new cushions for my living room.

How do you like these cushions. I liked them for two reasons; one is that the embroidery on the cushions is the famous tangible cultural heritage of India called Toda Embroidery, which quenches my thirst for incorporating Indian art forms in my home decor and the second is that it is a product from a brand launched by a woman entrepreneur Chitra Ghildiyal. Let's meet the brain behind the brand called 'One Good Thing' and know more about the woman entrepreneur and her brand.

Chitra: I am a designer of home decor and furnishings products with a brand name 'One Good Thing'. Taking a hint from my enthusiasm towards fine fabrics, handwork, arts, history and home decor, I quit my job as a communication specialist and started One Good Thing in June 2016. Now let's know more about Toda Embroidery!

The toda is a pastoral tribe of Nilgiris(Ooty) of Tamilnadu. Toda embroidery is also known as 'Poothkuli', 'Torhbohr' or 'Pukhoor'. It is an artwork done by toda women. Toda embroidery is usually done with red and black threads on white cotton cloth and design is made by counting the threads using reverse stitch method. Usually, geometric pattern is made by counting warp and weft in the cloth. Patterns of Toda embroidery are inspired from nature, for example, Sun, Moon, animals, reptiles and rabbit ears. Out of practice, Toda women produce the design without even tracing the pattern on the cloth. Embroidered fabric can be used from both the sides.

Embroidered fabric is worn by both Toda men and women as a traditional garment. Toda embroidery fabric is liked and purchased by lots of foreigners who visit Ooty. Toda tribe is proud of their heritage!!

Chitra has graciously sent me a set of these beautiful Toda embroidery cushions and I paired these celery Ice green cushions with burnt sienna cushion and throw. The fabric of these cushions is linen and its quality is excellent. To add a bit of drama I covered sofa with the patterned fabric in black and burnt sienna which is complementing both cushions and throw and creating a pulled together look.

Hello awesome people!!

How have you been? I missed talking to you lovely people a lot and that's why I took some time out from my super busy schedule and I am glad that I did it because it worked as a stress buster!!

Today's blog is a very special one as I had been planning to do this blog since ages but my work kept me from executing it.

This blog is about "Wall Decor". Walls in a home are considered as a blank canvas and we fill this canvas to reflect our personalities. Wall decor is not only about decorating and putting up beautiful things or expensive paintings, it's definitely a lot more than that. Wall in a home speaks volume about homeowner's personality. If done right, it tells a story, brings back a lot of memories, invites you to linger in front of it and makes a house a home. Sometimes I wonder, how different people have different design philosophies and using this philosophy they transform their spaces into the sweetest memory of their lives. So I asked some like-minded people to share an image of such wall in their homes that describes who they are and guess what, I got a phenomenal response and have to make a series of this "Wall Stories" blog. This is the first blog in this series and spotlight is on the walls with bright colors or neutral walls with bright colored paintings interspersed with Indian arts and crafts and surrounded by a lot of Indianness hence the name "Traditional/Ethnic Indian Walls".

Chitra's Traditional Indian Wall:
"I grew up in a traditional/religious family and we gathered around the prayer room to pray as a family everyday. I wanted to carry this tradition with my own family. I have been blessed to design and create my very own pooja room. With family heirlooms and handpicked gifts from grandparents and parents, almost all the pieces here tell a story. This is where I come to feel blessed and rejuvenated."

"When I first started working in my home studio, I always wanted to have a wall dedicated to my Tanjore paintings. So I did up this wall with my Tanjore paintings done over a period of years. I call this the "Tanjore Wall " It's an inspiration wall for me & for people who are interested in this art."

"The image is of my entryway foyer. This wall has undergone many transformations since we moved into our current home. And every element on the wall comes with a little story - from the massive brass Tara bust in the yellow niche I managed to procure after 3 long years to the brass conches on the side of the sports cabinet to the carved jharokhas...this wall has really grown with me and my decor sensibilities. I love fusing traditional Indian decor with modern interiors."

Anuradha's Ethnic Indian Wall:

"My collection of ganeshas started while we were living in Hyderabad. I had ganeshas in various materials and mediums all over our home. But I always wanted a wall to be dedicated to my favourite God, and I was able to do that when we moved to Gurgaon. By then I had made a Tanjore and many other paintings depicting Lord Ganesha in myriad forms. Interspersed with a few other elements like the brass prabhavalis, Tibetan bead belt, a metal sun and a wood carving, my gallery wall was complete."

Sangitha's Ethnic Indian Wall:

"From the very beginning, I wanted this wall to be different from the rest of my home.This is one wall that kind of connects two of our bedrooms. I wanted it to give out a very traditional Indian vibe.

The first step we took while creating this feature wall was to highlight the wall. It has a ragging effect with a combo of yellow and olive green."

"Next, came the wooden Jharokha... added a cow head from Kerala and a brass Drishtimukht on the jharokha which are the symbols of prosperity and believed to ward off bad omen!

I did wait patiently for many days to complete the look and then came the hanging brass diyas on either side. With some more bronze utility vessels, placed on the floor like the 'Kooja'- used for carrying milk or water in olden times, the 'kodam' for water and the 'nelpara' which is the traditional paddy measuring unit in Kerala, I felt I had arrived at the perfect scheme that I desired!

In between, I keep moving the 'Dashavatara' unit with few greens on them to change the look from time to time.

Eventually, this is how it looks now and am super proud the way this wall has turned out!"

Preethi's Indian Wall:

"I have a very strange love affair with paintings that have open doors and windows in them. They speak to me more than any other art does. Over the year I have accumulated a lot of art and when I moved to my new home, I decided to dedicate a wall for them. Hanging them on a white wall wasn't looking very exciting. So I picked a background color from one of the paintings and changed the wall color and it suddenly brightened up the whole space for me"

Kapila's Traditional Indian Wall Decor:

"The wall remains the central point of my living room which actually has now become the first look attraction for anybody entering the house. The vibrant signature wall has been an uplift with the Shrinathji painting and few ethnic artefacts and d�cor around. My very own talented painters helped in doing the colouring and texture. Terracotta color with rustic metallic gold finish comes to life with the lights coming out of the shades in the room. I have personally cherished doing up the wall very much."

Hemal's Indian Wall:

"My feature wall is in a long hallway which connects our living room with the bedrooms. This area is difficult to photograph as it is narrow. To work my way around this and add interest, I have tried to create a vista which ends in a focal point. On one side of the corridor are my collection of masks and favourite objects and at the far end of the corridor is a focal point featuring a bright artwork.

At the very end of the hallway is this wall with Indian inspired elements. A bright painting which I did (a copy of Late Shri. S.H.Raza's work) is the focal point. Under this painting is my collection of brass objects. I keep rotating these too."

"My passion for home decor took a stage when we bought our new home & since then I have been unstoppable!! Our new home has unleashed the designer in me. Decorating, to me is therapeutic and this has elevated my creativity.

The Krishna pictures are from a calendar that was laminated. This one makes me nostalgic, tracing back 14 years, during my newly married days, where I was looking for inexpensive options to deck up our first home."

Wall Stories: Contemporary and Eclectic Wall Decor | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

We have seen some alluring and aesthetically pleasing

traditional and ethnic Indian wall decor in the first part of the "Wall Stories" series and it has already crossed 2.5k views and figure is increasing by the day. That shows how much love y'all have showered on it. Let's move on to the second part of this series. In this part, I am featuring contemporary and eclectic walls. Hope y'all will love this part as much as you loved the previous one!!

Contemporary decorating is synonymous to modern and can be defined by neutral colors, clean and smooth lines and casual look with emphasis on comfort while eclectic style of decorating is basically a game of mixing & matching. Variety of periods and styles are intertwined beautifully and various elements are put together in a manner that create a balanced look. I personally love an eclectic style of decorating as it brings together old and modern interestingly so I decided to add my wall's image in this part of the "Wall Stories" series. Here is an image of the wall in my work-space with perfect mix of traditional and modern touch. Wall shelf, tealights, painting and typography by a talent artist are the elements that make this space look contemporary while Indian art and craft, dashavtar miniature figurines, Moroccan lanterns are lending a traditional touch. This shelf also houses gifts from dear friends and family members that makes this wall even more special and close to my heart. I love working here. Looking at this wall just doubles the joy of working from home.

Rukmini from Mumbai, India and Sharon from Pune, India are my sweetheart friends and fellow bloggers, I know they need no introduction but I want to share few things. These two ladies are always there for me and patiently answered all my business(blogging) related queries. Despite living in the same city for years, I got the opportunity to meet Sharon only recently and we both were elated (read over excited). I haven't met Rukmini yet and let me tell you how badly I want to meet her. This girl inspires me even in my dreams too.
Rachel lives in England and has a very beautiful home with dark interiors. Clever use of colors make them pop against dark toned walls in her home. She mixes and matches various elements beautifully and that's why I fell in love with her interiors.
Deepika lives in Texas, USA and Meera is from Michigan, USA. I acquainted with these super talented ladies through Instagram, where they share beautiful images of their stunning homes. They both have a different style of decorating yet their homes emanate warmth of an Indian home.

Wendy's Global Eclectic Wall Decor:
"The bedroom is often one of the most neglected rooms in our homes when it comes to decorating. I too was guilty of this and decided the other day that this needed to change! I had been picking up inexpensive baskets for the past year while out thrifting, and they were lying unused in a heap on a shelf in my closet. So, I grabbed the baskets and used clear push pins to secure them to the wall above my bed. This was a very inexpensive way to add a focal point to my wall and to bring in some texture. The painting above the nightstand was a gift from a friend and had been hanging in my living room in an area where it was difficult to view. So, it was moved up to my bedroom where I can appreciate it every day. Often, decorating a room doesn't require you to go out and spend a lot of money; it's amazing what you can pull together just by thinking outside the box and "shopping" from other areas of your home. Rukmini's Contemporary Wall Decor:
"I love mirrors and canvases as wall arts and I love typography so I painted a tiny square in a canvas with chalkboard paint and use it according to the season. Mostly its coffee quote though thanks to a 9 to 6 job!"

"After my wall mount mirror broke, I was more than happy. I soon realised that the wall mount mirror was something I don�t like and I want to have a big mirror in a chipped white frame. but I couldn�t really just throw it away, so I waited for one of my bad days! Anyway, I bought this mirror frame from a flea market for 15$ but didn�t quite like its gold. And a mirror of this size and work in a chippy finish, in �The home Shop� is priced at 3000 rupees, which amounts to I think around 67$. So, clearly, the answer was NO. Instead, a white paint and a sand paper really helped. 1$ for all! This is how it all teams up now!"

Sharon's Contemporary Wall Decor:

"This is my dining room wall, and from the moment I first saw this apartment, I knew I wanted plates on this wall. So that�s how it started � my fascination for plates, and the thrill I get from buying tons of them, and taking turns displaying them here. The area between the dining chair and wall is not much, so instead of a conventional sideboard, I have a really tall console table. I was particular about the height because I wanted the display of plates to have that little bottom note, with plates on the table. This way, the wall looks visually pleasing, because eyes rest at three different levels, where I hope, any guest who comes in, finds delight at each of these levels � a pleasing tablescape, some drama on the sideboard, and the plates on the wall."

"For some variety, and if I want to match an elaborate tablescape with art on the wall, I sometimes replace the plates with baskets, or artwork, or even frames in different colours. This wall is a lovely canvas to play around with, and I love the freedom of creativity it offers me. It�s also right next to my open kitchen, and I delight in the medley of colours that my eyes get treated to, especially when I am entertaining or cooking."

Deepika's Colourful Eclectic Wall Decor:
Our House has more windows that walls and Its a challenge to bring in decor without overcrowding one part of the house and I am no minimalist :) This is my favorite wall that I color matched it with a beautiful uppada saree hand embroidered with chikku muggu ( kolam) designs that my mom had sent for our housewarming . The many moods of this green throughout the day is breathtaking and always feels anew. I am glad that I chose Green over my husband's choice of a blue-black :) I am no interior designer and I always follow my gut when it comes to decor. I love a lot of color and asymmetry in my decor. This whole wall evolved over a period of time and It's not finished yet but it makes my heart skip with joy which matters the most!

The pieces have been collected over time and over years and yet they all come together so well. The mirror was a pier 1 find and we carefully moved it from one state to another without breaking it which is a feat in itself. Its very very special as our babysitter who watched our kids for the first 5 years of their lives gave us a gift card to the store knowing my love for mirrors. It always reminds me of her. the candle holders are a Diwali gift from friends. The blue vase and the rustic bench is a find from a Dallas-based Indian furniture store. The Madhubani painting is a wedding gift from friends, The horse is a Home Goods find. Throw is from Fab India and the kalamkari cushions are from my own online store Isan. The masks are from Khazana, A Minneapolis Indian decor store. The Buddha, red urli and the elephant tassels are from World Market. The plants are all gifts from friends. The bunch of lavender is special because the husband bought those for me. The gold console was from a furniture outlet store and extremely functional.

Meera's Contemporary Wall Decor:

Our home decor is very much about the stories in our life. This wall reflects those stories. It's a happy mix of things we love: vintage items and interesting typography. The "eye chart" is a poster my daughter picked up at Homegoods when she was 7 years old. She liked that she could crack the puzzle, I loved the quote and my husband liked the typography concept.

The children's typewriter was a vintage store find. I wasn't sure if it worked, and the store owner and I had a great conversation as we figured out how to get it to work. He shared many interesting stories of the items around the store, including a set of the Old Detroit Tigers (Baseball team) Stadium seats. This piece reminds me of the many trips I make to area vintage stores. The store owners usually remember me by the items I purchased from them much to the amusement of my family!

The Ambassador print is from a store in Mumbai called Kulture Shop. I always loved that print and got a chance to purchase it this time on my trip to Mumbai. The Ambassador was our first car back in the 70s. My mother was one of the rare lady drivers in the early 70s. The Ambassador always brings back many childhood memories - so seems appropriate to include in our decor.

The "Home" frame with the black and red letters was a DIY project. I used to be an avid scrapbooker and have quite a collection of alphabets. These were left over letters that I could use on my projects. I put them down randomly and added the word "Home" in to get an inexpensive art project for the shelf.

I bought a unique picture holder from CB2 years ago and promptly forgot about it. It has a picture ledge and four acrylic tubes in which you can insert prints or photos. With this set of cards in the Devnagiri script from Kulture Shop, I finally found a way to use it. Sitting atop the acrylic tubes is a vintage car that my son bought at the Brooklyn Flea Market. He has quite a collection of vintage cars so more of them may appear around the house.

Archana's Eclectic Wall Decor:

"My philosophy on how I decorate my home is - make a space where I am happy to spend time myself as well as with others.
This particular corner came about when my better half and kids took over my beautiful sunroom with their monstrous pingpong table. I carved out a niche for myself to read n relax while the boys went about their shenanigans. The buddha art " I had to buy" found a place here some time ago. I moved in an armchair that been around forever, a roadside find, a table that cleaned up well and some knickknacks I had around. The fireplace was a love a first sight for us. But until we can change the eyesore of tiles around it, what I have going on makes it palatable enough to sit back, relax and enjoy with my family."

Dawn's Bohemian Eclectic Wall Decor:

"Honestly, my approach to filling a wall is the same as filling my home. If I love it, I find a place for it. I have a passion for vintage oil paintings, rarely do I pass one up. I loved how these all had a turquoise color theme. The owl I thrifted years ago at a favorite spot that is now gone. ?? The brass garland is from Target and the baskets and dream catcher were also thrifted."

"I am passionate about home decor and decorating walls tops the list. There not a single wall in my home that can be found lifeless. My entryway wall that is decorated in an eclectic way is loved by one and all. I have mixed and matched antique and traditional elements like photo frames, flower paintings, and textile."

"House is where the heart is, this is truly a true statement in my decor world. When you start to decorate your house there are a wealth of resources you can get inspire from, from colors to decor pieces to composition. But in the end, this all should lead to what makes your heart and soul happy. So pick what works for you and your family and that defines your style.

Coming to me, I am a picky person when it comes to my decor style. I cannot ever get anything off the shelf for the first time I see it. I truly need to connect with it, in every sense. Here is a story of my wall/corner, which is my inspiration. I knew that I wanted to do something different with this corner, something that will reflect and define who I am. In the end, I feel that everything in this corner meant to be here."

"My favorite colors - Range from the palette of blues to greens then to purples - So this first step of color picking was not a trivial task. What I picked here is olive green because this corner is in my kitchen, where there is ample of light and different times of day olive green looks different. Family - Have pictures of my family ( immediate, extended - from generations). They are nucleus of my existence

Art - as a self-learner I have explored different mediums and my latest love is charcoal which exposed me to the beauty of white and black combo.

Dance - Classical dance forms and its beauty has always inspired me. I had to have some representation of that in my corner.

Pottery - Love everything about it, from playing with clay to throwing it on a wheel to glaze and carve. Every ceramic piece is made by me.

Flowers/Plants - They speak to me. and cheer my soul. So cannot imagine going without them.

Travel - Who won't love to travel. Have a collection of souvenirs from every place I have traveled to.
Priceless souvenirs - Some passed on from generations to me. Like kumkum box is from my great grand mom.

In the end - this wall turned out to be my soul searching effort and I couldn't be more happy about how it turned out to be."

Today with me are some of my talented and dear friends and they are sharing how they incorporate memories in their decor and how a wall can be dedicated to proudly display the collection of masks picked from the different places. Let's meet them and know who they are!
Gayathri has been living in US since past ten years. She is a home decor enthusiast and is passionate about collecting brass artefacts for her home.

Pinky Shah lives in Ontario, Canada. She is a brass aficionado, I have never seen such stunning and always sparkling brass artefacts as Pinky has. Her home is as beautiful as her decor accessories are. Hemal lives in Kenya, East Africa. She has a strong liking for handmade stuff which is quite evident in her home. Her home is a warm and inviting place and is a treasure trove of delightful stuff.
Chitra Seetharaman lives in Illinois, USA. She loves to play � home dress up� and now she is doing it on a professional level. Her home is an outlet to all her pent up energy that's why she decorates, organises and cleans her home like therapy.
Deepika has a beautiful home in Texas, USA and what a gorgeous space she keeps. Her color choice and impeccable styling are what I admire a lot. Bindu Joseph is from Kerala, India. "My name is Gayathri, I have been living in the US for about 10 years. I have two kids aged 5 and 2.5. I am an auditor by profession. If I am not working or spending time with family, I am re-arranging the house. I am quite passionate about Indian home decor and brass antiques. I set this wall of masks in the theme of Ramayana. the top row is Garuda (left) and Ravana(right), followed by Hanuman in the middle, next row is Rama(left) and Sita(right), followed by a cow Surabhi which is the daughter of sage Kashyapa and Krodhavasa, the daughter of Daksha."

Pinky's Wall Of Masks:
"My husband and I are emotional creatures when it comes to the home front and we both are deeply affected by our surroundings. Our home is an expression of our individuality and a vessel of memories we created. So, when our newly done basement unlocked many fresh opportunities for us to reveal more of our personality and passion, we both started brewing creative schemes for this new space. My vision for a gallery wall of masks suited perfectly for a fashionable focal point. After pondering over, we both finally nailed another gallery wall in our home. Each mask here on this mask wall tells a story! The wall is not only an ode to all those beautiful years we have spent in Africa but it also reminds us of an unforgettable holiday or our travel to an exotic island from where we never fail to collect a piece to add our mounting collection of masks. While the rest of the walls are done in a warm grey shade the gallery wall is given a lick of bright hue to make masks stand out. Now every time we pass the wall, we both proudly smug about being bold enough to experiment something new and rewrite the rule book of the gallery wall with our personal touch".

"This kind of vista helps me tie the space together with the help of bright colours. I have masks from Kenya, Ghana, Jamaica, SriLanka and Indonesia in my collection. The small table under the masks houses my favourite objects which I keep rotating from time to time. Currently, beaded dolls from Cameroon are adding prettiness to this space. Bright rugs finish the look."

"This is my wanderlust wall. This wall is filled with our travel memories and artefacts. Each item here was handpicked to be displayed right here on this wall.

Clockwise - Ram Sita was a special find from Bali, Tara the bronze face is from Srilanka, The wooden lady with the basket from Thailand and the colorful lady at the bottom was from Puerto Rico. The wanderlust wall mural is from amazon. My hope is to fill this wall one day with all our special finds."

"Speaking about this gallery wall it is wrapped up with a lot of memories. Most of the things are bought during my travels. Floral painting is done by myself, the stick you see above the painting is used to control the elephants (earlier we used to have elephants) and it's kept for its remembrance, the lion head is a door knocker, the frame around is an antique one which I painted into golden colour, the bugs are actually table top accessory which I have stuck into a board with help of gum and hung it, the little man (tribal man) see there is gifted by my sister from South Africa."

"I think this wall is not completed yet there is a long way to go. This wall is on the way to upstairs, each and every time when I pass this view definitely gives me a lot of pleasure and happiness."

"This specific little wall in my bedroom that I recently updated has now become very close to my heart. Here, I have tried to incorporate my babies' precious first pictures. I was left with quite a few pictures from all the sonograms I had during my three pregnancies, I always knew I should be doing much more with them than just tuck them away inside. I picked out a few and created a collage frame with their first footprints and loved the idea of framing the black and white photos with a fun bright background and voila my 3 masterpieces were ready to be put up. My precious first memories of my little peanuts now framed forever here. A perfect sight I wake up to every single day and be thankful for.

"I finished the look with some complementing decorative accents and a carved wood floor mirror that makes a dramatic statement. A cluster of things I love and adore belong here now. When Disha asked me to write about my design philosophy I realised I didn't really have one that easily came to my mind. It pretty much should be delightful to me and to people who encounter it. I love the process of designing and keep reminding myself that design is never perfect rather organic. I follow no specific rules and change the decor to suit myself. My decorating style has been ever evolving, while I can call it eclectic I see myself being drawn to ethnic Indian which I guess is reflected here."

Hina's Wall Of Memories:

"Life is Short' but sweet we make it ourselves... I have this insane love for bright colors and interiors so I got this living room wall done in Yellow color!

That just cheers me up seeing it 100 times in a day and then to top it up, I have this love for frames... so I started putting memories up on that yellow wall and I felt I had to put some other elements along with the frames to hold it more and to give it a kind of a vintage look too... so added the blue pottery plates and made this rustic frame myself that's right in the middle and last edition in the yellow wall is the plate that says "flip-flop till u drop" that a friend got from America and I decided it will bring a little retro touch to it so it got up too... decorating this wall is a never ending process!!And it might sound crazy but I have always admired the house of the seven dwarfs and the house of those three bears in Goldilocks so I tried making my home look cosier and warm just like that!

"When I and S bought our first home together, we were experiencing many 'firsts'. Our home, our baby our new jobs. We wanted to set it up so perfectly.

The accent wall in the living room was the focus. I bought this mirror from a local art exhibition at Saharanpur. It compliments our wooden furniture perfectly. I little knicks and knacks are mostly from our travels across the globe.

"This wall is in the corridor space on the top floor of the house just as you come up the stairs and leads to the reading nook. Though I don't get a lot of time to sit in the reading nook, I wanted a gallery wall with some vacation memories for when I do have the time to sit and read or take a breather. Hence, the idea of the travel gallery wall."

"This contains framed prints from our trip to Jamaica ( a picture of me and my son in the pool, a picture of my son with a beautiful macaw parrot perching in his head), watercolour prints from photos I took when we were in Sri Lanka (a row of fishing boats moored on a sandy beach, the pagoda with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze in Kandy, a flower stall outside the Sacred Buddhist temple selling beautifully lotus flowers, and tumbling vines from our hotel grounds). The most recent additions are a memory box I made from our trip to Greece ( containing pictures of the nice lady who always made me Nutella crepes, a beautiful red flower pot, a Greek grandpa who owned a beautiful iron works studio with whom my son forged an instant connection. This memory box also contains a beautiful smooth polished stone that the Greek grandpa gave my son as a souvenir). I was lucky enough to find some beautiful whitewashed frames with iron rings - these seemed perfect for framing pictures of Santorini."

Indian Art Gallery Wall Reveal | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

I had been working on transforming one of the walls in my living room since last year and

it's time for the big REVEAL!!

Yes, it took me quite long to give a makeover to the focal wall in my living room and it's due to the fact that I have so many things to do and sometimes I find it really hard to manage everything single-handedly. Now coming to the wall decor, I have this focal wall in my living room that makes the first impression as one enters the home. So I decided to decorate it in a way that it reflects my love for my country India and its rich cultural heritage. I think I did justice to the wall and was able to bring out the true essence of India which is happy, warm, vibrant and inviting.

I hope you enjoyed watching the video. Now let's move on to the story of this transformation. First I will show you the before image of the same wall. It will give you an idea how my design sensibilities have improved and how my decorating style has evolved over the time and how a simple change in wall decor can make all the difference in overall look and feel of the space. Below is a before picture of the same wall.

Here is a recent look and did I spend a fortune in decorating this wall. No, not at all!! I am a huge fan of DIYs and my eternal love for Indian art forms led me to paint all these exquisite folk paintings which cost me nothing and the only money I spent in decorating this wall was getting all the paintings framed which cost me around 1k bucks!! Yes, so I spent only 1k in giving a makeover to this wall. Pretty amazing, isn't it.

[My OCD is making me restless after realising that one of the frames in below image is a bit tilted and how I want to fix it]

And here is the recent one from the same angle as above. Yes, you noticed it right, I have given a makeover to my sofas also and it turned out pretty well too.

The color burst that these paintings have added to my living room give me the opportunity to play with colors and quite often I just pick few colors from the paintings and match them with the cushions for beautifully color coordinated and well-composed look of the room. Don't you agree!

Then we had a long cellphone conversation and I experienced my fan moment when she excitedly disclosed that she couldn't believe she is talking to me and that she never misses a post from 3D and reads all the posts word by word. She added, "I love your style and the ideas you share are so simple and doable that we all can connect to it." I felt encouraged and blessed, All I can say is a BIG THANK YOU!! Well, Kshama I am not a celebrity, I am doing what I love the most and I try to give my 100% in whatever I do!!

Now I'll take y'all to Mysore, a city in Karnataka known for its opulent Mysore palace. Situated in the foothills of the Chamundi Hills this bustling city is also known as the cultural capital of Karnataka and is rich in traditions. Taking the cue from the city itself Kshama has decorated her home with arts and handicrafts of India. Come on in and soak in the beauty of her home as she takes us through her collected and well-curated home.
Hi, I am Kshama Shenoy from Mysore and I have been living here since past 25 years with my husband Arun Shenoy and two sons Arjun and Arinjay Shenoy.
This is the entrance to my home. Once you step in this is what you see on the wall. I am a great devotee of Krishna and on my visit to Guruvayur temple in Kerala I picked up these Kathakali masks and then I hung them in a group on the wall to create a pleasing and inviting environment.

Let's take a step further and we are in a long corridor that leads us to the living room. This corridor was an empty space until Kshama spotted these beautiful wall planters in a store called HomeStop in Bangalore. Store owner explained that these planters can be hung on a wall or can be placed on a surface as well. So Kshama decided to hang these planters on the corridor wall and the color combination and orientation of these planters on the wall are done by her husband. When I posted this picture on my Instagram account many people were curious to know how to hang them on a wall. So I asked Kshama to explain the process,

"These planters have a hole at the back so I just drilled the holes in this wall and hung them on the nail. Plants are actually placed in a cup and then I inserted that cup in the wall planter. I pull out the cups often to water the plants and then place it back. Every single person who visits us is sure to ask about these planters. The Tara statue on the console table was on a sale and is a great find from one of the stores in Bangalore. The console table I picked up from the furniture exhibition. I instantly fell in love with the intricate carving and lighting that it has so I bought it. The corridor was quite monotonous so to break the monotony I placed the console here and knick-knacks on it are the pieces I picked from various places. There is a place close to Mysore called Sri Narsipura that I visit quite often to pick up the brass items from one of the stores that exclusively sales all brass items".

This huge Kathakali mask hung in the same corridor in below picture also has a beautiful memory associated with it. Kshama told me that on her visit to Guruvayur temple when she came out of the temple she suddenly felt like she should own a huge Kathakali mask too and she reached out to the fellow who was selling the masks and this is what happened next,

"The guy was talking to me in Malayalam and couldn't understand a word then too I managed to explain to him that I want a huge Kathakali mask delivered to my place and convinced him to share his bank account details and then once the money was transferred he sent me the mask and thankfully it arrived in a single piece."

Here is one more view of the same corridor from a different angle. One side of this corridor is a home theatre and the other side is the living room.

Seen below is the image of Kshama's living room and her passion for Indian arts and crafts shows through every corner of her home. I asked about her collection of curious and this is what she said,
My style of decorating depicts various traditions of different countries. Special thanks to my boys also in selecting unique items that have made my house a beautiful home. The veena that is lying under the coffee table is a find from a small exhibition called Deepotsava/Deepsaundarya. On the right side of the table top are Ram and Seeta figurine and on the left is Goddess Saraswati in wood that Raj picked for me from Bali. Raj has an Indian handicraft store called Kalash in Bangalore. He always makes it a point to call me and ask whether I want something whenever he visits places like Bali and Indonesia. There is one more nice fellow called Raghavendra in Bangalore, I send him the pictures I find nice on your blog and ask him if he could get something like that for me and he makes sure that he finds the exact same piece.

Below is one more corner of Kshama's living room that reflects how she likes to weave a story in all the corners and how she loves to mix and match the different elements. Upon asking about the figurines flanking the vintage looking brass lamp she said,

"One is called the wisdom god and the other is called the victory god. These are from Kushalnagar, a town few KMs away from Mysore where one of my friends live. And having these two figurines is like Victory god is always there to make us victorious and wisdom god is there to give us all the wisdom. The vintage looking brass lamp is from FabIndia. Hand painted terracotta pieces are from Kolhapur. On the way to Kolhapur with my family, I spotted a small shop and just shouted stop and jumped off the car. There was a beautiful huge Purandara/Vitthala statue was sitting in the front of the shop and my boys were like "Maa please don't pick that up because if you do we'll be out of the car and only Purandara will be there in the car."

I think that's how we transform a house into a home with so many stories associated with each piece.

Kshama read something about blue pottery on my blog and then she contacted someone in Jaipur and got herself these beautiful ceramic plates. Puppet is from Bali

Her sons are as equally talented. Below are the sketches done by her elder son Arjun who is self taught artist. These sketches are framed now and found a place on one of the walls in her home. I must say he is a blessed artist.

Below is the shelf filled with Tara figurines. The small brass head is from FabIndia and all the Taras are picked up from a place close to Kushalnagar called Bylakuppe where Tibetan society is there. Kshama has made lots of friends there and those ladies keep calling her to let her know what new has arrived and that's how this huge collection built up.

Some more brass knick-knacks that are adorning the corners in her home.

Now let's take a peek inside her bedroom to be surprised by the idea of hanging beautiful brass throne/simhasana of deity hanging from the ceiling and beautifully complementing the picture of Krishna. Now, who would have thought of this excellent idea? But then Kshama has a different story to share here,

"When I spotted this brass throne everything in my mind was clear as to how I'll decorate it and I asked the shopkeeper if he has a long brass chain so that I can hang it from the ceiling and fortunately he had the chain. When I came back home I got all the scolding from my husband upon seeing the nails in my hand he told me not again, you are spoiling my home with all these holes and nails. But once it was done my husband was very happy. Brass musical figurines placed on the bedside table are again from a small brass shop in Sri Narsipura."

Now we are in the kitchen and this place has also got the same attention as the other rooms in her home when it comes to displaying the collection of curios. Did you notice those plump chubby chefs placed on the countertop? Let's know what's the story associated with them.

"So when I visited my sister-in-law in Goa I got to know about a store where they customise the things for you. I saw this ceramic chef in his store and got a few of them customised for myself. I love collecting miniature kitchen sets and you can see them inside the glass cabinet. Wall decor pieces in the kitchen are from various places like U.S. Dubai, London and Sri Lanka. So it's a kind of memory wall in my kitchen. I love my home and my home is my best friend. It takes a lot of my energy to keep everything clean and just love doing up my home."

Now we are stepping out in Kshama's very beautiful garden. The first thing you see here is this beautiful yellow niche in the wall and Kshama's collection of masks that are making quite a statement here.

Please hold your breath as you are going to see the garden that you must have imagined while reading stories like Cinderella and Snow White in your childhood. A tiny pond filled with water lilies and surrounded by cute tiny animal and dotted with white pebbles is nothing short of a fairy garden. The little girl is supposed to be a garden fairy. All these lovely garden accessories are from a garden store in Bangalore called Hybiscus.

Even her garden has all the things from different parts of India. The boat in below pictures is picked up from Kerala, all the other tiny creatures are from Bangalore.

These beautiful wall planters in her garden have a story too. She saw a post on my blog and did some research and she managed to find out the contact details of a garden store in Delhi called Sondha. She then sent the pictures to Vinita Nath, who owns the store and that's how she got her sea horse and owl planters all the way from Delhi to Mysore.

DIY African Basket Inspired Planter | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

I am back with a DIY after a long time and you'll love this.

Today I'll show you how you can make African rope basket yourself and can use it in various ways. I am using it as a planter and totally loving it. It has turned out pretty awesome.

I am quite happy with this DIY project and playing around with the African basket inspired planter. These baskets are in trend these days. I have created this small seating in my home office and this African rope basket is a perfect addition here. It is blending quite well with the color palette.

Cherry Tomatoes: 3 Flameless Recipes To Try With Kids | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

Summer vacations!!

And most of us are already scratching our heads to find out the ways to keep our kids engaged in some creative activities all the time. But please don't bother them with too many activity classes. Let them enjoy their childhood and try to create memories by spending some quality times with them. Here I have an easy way to keep them involved and at the same time inculcate some good qualities in them. Watch the video below and let me know your views!!

I grew cherry tomatoes in my balcony garden a few months ago and now it was the time to harvest them. I had some vegan recipes in my mind and thought I would involve my son too as these are fireless/flameless recipes and can be tried with kids. Ingredients I used are all highly nutritious and when kids prepare food by themselves then they are tempted to taste and finish it all and that's a win-win situation for parents.
Three flameless recipes that I tried with my son are:

1. Cherry Tomato Appetizer:
We used cherry tomatoes and soaked almonds but you can use grapes, berries or cheese balls in place of almond. Using a toothpick, spear a cherry tomato then soaked almond/berry/grape/cheese and then again cherry tomato. Place it on a plate and garnish with chocolate spread.
Nutritional Value:
Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C, protein and fiber, almonds are a good source of vitamin E, Vit. B2, phosphorus, magnesium and heart-healthy monounsaturated fat.

2. Cherry Tomato Salad:
Cherry tomatoes, cubed cottage cheese, cilantro, lemon, salt & pepper are the ingredients we used in making this very easy but delicious salad. We mixed all the ingredients and the healthy salad was ready.
Nutritional Value:
You get a good dose of vitamins and minerals with cherry tomatoes, Cottage cheese is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals, cilantro is rich in antioxidants, essential oils, vitamins and dietary fiber while lemon contains vitamin C, citric acid which aids in digestion, minerals and fiber.

3. Cherry Tomato Mini Pizza:
Whole wheat bread, herb cheese spread, cheese slice, cucumber slices, cubed cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes, oregano, salt and pepper are all we needed to make our mini bread pizzas. First, we spread herb cheese and then placed a cheese slice on the bread and topped it with cucumber, cubed cottage cheese and cherry tomatoes. Sprinkled oregano, salt and pepper to taste and then placed in a microwave oven and grilled it for 9 mins. on high power.
Nutritional Value:
Now you know the nutritional values of cherry tomatoes and cottage cheese. I will go ahead and tell you about cheese spread and cheese slice well, these are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals but are also high in cholesterol, saturated fat and sodium so it is not advisable to use these cheese products if you are obese or have heart/kidney disease. Cucumber is a low-calorie vegetable and contains lots of water and dietary fiber hence aids in weight loss and digestion. It is also a good source of vitamin A, Vit.C, Vit. K and minerals. Best thing to eat in summers to beat the heat.

Time and again, I have shared with y'all

"We live in Bangalore. We have a medium sized balcony on the west side of our home. To decorate it, I must say I had not spent much. I bought all the terracotta pots from potters and not from nearby nurseries that saved me a lot of bucks."

"Then I painted them myself in sync with my balcony flooring and its walls some of them I left as is. The terracotta couple here is from Brougham from Madanapalli in Andhra. I repainted them according to my taste."

"I felt that there was something missing on the wall so, the sun on the wall was painted by me with acrylic colours it's Madhubani art inspired sun. I used the yellow tiles from leftover scrap and placed them in the middle to add to the balcony decor. The butterflies are the silicon fridge magnets placed in the pot with small rods."

I have something to tell you,

after working hard day in and day out all through the week

I feel exhausted. So weekends are to revive and rejuvenate my body, mind and soul.

I never sit idle and always keep myself engaged in doing some constructive work.

Hence I like to do DIYs on weekends and I highly recommend you all to give this thing a try at least once. It's like therapy it's not only healing but an invigorating experience too. Give yourself some time every weekend, do whatever makes you happy, enjoy that moment and then you will feel light and full of energy, ready to face the new week with lots of positivity.

Soft Furnishings Play An Important Role In Bedroom's Decor | Luxury Home Decoration 2019

June started on a happier note. First, I am glad to share with ever growing 3D family that

like past few years this year also our blog finds a place in the 7th edition of the Directory of Best Indian Blogs, released on 1st June 2017. Second, my YouTube channel which is in a baby phase right now just hit the mark of 1k subscribers on 1st June. This gave me a reason to make more wonderful videos. I have shot two already and they are in the post-production phase. Soon I'll be publishing them. So if you haven't already then please consider subscribing. And third, a luxury bedding company called Aplus Linen is introducing its new collection on blogland and Design Decor & Disha is the first blog to do the honours!!

Now for today's blog as I said in my previous post that I'll be talking all about beds and beddings this month, so here I'm with second in this series and I'll be sharing something about bedroom soft furnishings today and how it changes the look and feel of the bedroom. The white bed linen you see in the above picture is made of Egyptian cotton and is manufactured in Israel. Why Egyptian cotton? right!! I have the answer for you. Read on...

Today I have two young enthusiastic entrepreneurs with me Aditya Narvekar and Vinay Ghatkar, co-founders of Aplus Linen. A long conversation with Aditya over a call gave me some really important insights about soft furnishings industry in India.

Here is a tete-a-tete with Aditya:
"I am a Computer Engineer with an MS and MBA from New York University. After working in Investment Banking industry for 10 years in New York. I decided to return home to pursue my passion. The Apluslinen idea was conceived by me when I went shopping for Egyptian cotton sheets in India last year. The branded Egyptian cotton sheets were selling in excess of 8,000 with some European brands being sold for 15,000. Even at these exorbitant prices, there was very little information about the type of cotton (Egyptian, Supima) or the weave. I knew I could do better so I contacted my co-founder Vinay who is a textile engineer. Together, we researched and then finalised the type of cotton, thread count, weave type and then we travelled around the world looking for a reliable manufacturer. We avoided China because of poor quality and the chemicals being used in the manufacturing process. We finally partnered with an Israeli manufacturer who supplies major US/European brands. We visited the factory to check on the machines and processes used for quality control. They use state of art German and Italian machines for manufacturing and their quality control was top notch. For example, our floral design had a small color spread because of a broken screen which was not immediately visible but our manufacturing partners rejected the entire batch. Although it delayed our launch by a couple of weeks, we were happy that we are offering our customers the best possible quality.

Vinay is a Textile Engineer with over 10 years of experience in fabric manufacturing. We brought his years of experience in designing Aplus sheets. His technical expertise helped us differentiate between the various factories we visited in China, Italy and Israel."

As a child, I had always loved my Nani's (maternal grandmother) pristine white, super soft and comfortable cotton bedsheets. That was the most luxurious and comfortable bed that I have ever slept on and quite often I miss that comfort. I have so many cotton bedsheets in white color and I tried buying expensive ones too but never felt the same comfort. All the cotton bedsheets have some kind of roughness which is why they don't feel comfortable. Aditya told me it is because of short staple cotton which means cotton fibres are short in length and to make it longer several fibres are joined one after another that makes the thread rough. But this is not the case with Aplus Linen, long staple cotton from Egypt is used in making Aplus bedsheets which makes the bedsheets super soft and comfortable. Still, the bedsheets are not that expensive because Aplus Linen omits all the middle-men and avoids costs such as licensing fees, slotting fees to bring the luxury bed linen in the market at an affordable price. Whereas many luxury bed linen brands in the market are charging 7-8 times the cost of the manufacturing.
