Adeje Puertito is a classroom marine

On 20 may, the Directorate General of the service Provincial of coast of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has given the green light to the creation of a marine room in El Puertito two years after the signing of the Convention of the Canarian Association for sustainable ocean with Adeje Town Hall.

The promotion of scientific research, educational outreach, the promotion of marine environmental values and the exploitation of the tourist entertainment are the basic objectives seeking in this project pioneer who began his career in 2004.

This classroom is located in an area integrated as a place of Community interest (LIC) and is projected as a center of interpretation of the marine environment and conservation and regeneration of the ecosystem. The project currently researches the fauna and flora of the area at a depth of between six and ten meters, already warns of the large presence of the lime Urchin (Diadema antillarum), which has ended up with much of the flora, leaving blanquizales in funds from the area.

The ecosystem of El Puertito is home to a significant population of green sea turtle, Octopus, sea horses and other species who will benefit from control over follow-up, in an area of 2,800 square meters, will monitor different variables such as temperature, salinity, and especially the State of the nearby sebadales.

One of the goals will protect these species and make sustainable use of the marine environment for educational purposes, as well as promoting scientific research for the recuperation and conservation of the natural environment. In the words of the Mayor of Adeje, this future classroom will serve as well as tourist attraction, as a supply added to the destination, and also a "exportable educational experience".

The Canarian Association for sustainable ocean is basically a private non-profit entity, dedicated to the research and conservation of marine biodiversity.
