A crabby old man.....not very wise,
Uncertain of habit......with far away eyes?

Who dribbles his food.......and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice.....'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice the things that you do.
And forever is losing, a sock or a shoe?

Who, resisting or not...........lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding......The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?......Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse......you're not looking at me.

Crabby Old Lady Poem

Anonymous" Poem Winging It's Way Across the Internet.

When an old lady died in the geriatric ward of a small hospital near Dundee, Scotland, it was believed that she had nothing left of any value. Later, when the nurses were going through her meager possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Ireland. The old lady's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the North Ireland Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on her simple, but eloquent, poem. And this little old Scottish lady, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this "anonymous" poem winging across the Internet.

Crabby Old Woman

What do you see, nurses? What do you see?

What are you thinking when you're looking at me?

A crabby old woman, not very wise,

Uncertain of habit, with faraway eyes?

Getting older: lf for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or forbuying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avantegarde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging. Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60&70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ......... I will. I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despitethe pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things. Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before theirhair could turn silver As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong. So, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I ams till here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day. (If I feel like it)MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART! MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR HEART FOREVER AND EVER!

This was written by Philip Broughton, a 63 year old official, after working years of backing through etymological thickets at the U.S. Public Health Service. He hit upon a sure fire method for converting frustration into fullfillment (jargon wise). Euphemistically called the Systematic Buzz Phrase Projector, Broughton’s system employs a lexicon of 30 carefully chosen “buzz” words:

The procedure is simple. Think of any three digit number, then select the corresponding buzz word from each column. For instance, number 257 produces “Systematized logistical projection”, a phrase that can be dropped into virtually any report with that ring of decisive, knowledgeable authority.

No one will have the remotest idea of what you are talking about: says Broughton, “But the important thing is that they’re not about to admit to it.”

Christmas Purse and Dream Catcher stories

When I was newly divorced and no money for much of anything especially Christmas presents. I went thru the house and found items that I thought I could decorate as ornaments to send them to my families' houses instead of all the individuals within. That started over 15 years ago. It has now become expected of me because they want to see how I outdo my from year to year. The year I had both of my knees replaced, a very sweet individual Chris, taught me how to make goose feather Christmas Trees (out of real dyed goose feather). Along with each ornament, I send a poem I wrote about the meaning of the ornament or the history behind the ornament.
Today I am sharing with you the poems that I wrote for the Christmas Purse as well as the story behind the Christmas Dream Catcher. You will find both of these great gift items in the holiday section of my website. Now... you will know the story behind them.

THE CHRISTMAS PURSE

Christmas is the time of year
To remember those that we hold dear.
To let you know your top of the line,
We’re sending you this one of a kind.

The body of this Christmas purse
Is very dear to us.
It represents the body of Christ
Who lived and died for us.

Inside this purse is a candy cane
Shaped as the letter J.
It stands for Jesus
And as we all know-
Christmas is His day.

We dress this purse
With flowers and pearls,
With softness and colors,
And ribbons and curls.

And we send it your way
And pray-- You have a
Blessed Christmas Day.

The Christmas Dream Catcher

The Native American Indians have many traditions and beliefs. Dreams have always been very meaningful to them. One of the Ojibway traditions was to hang a Dream Catcher in their homes and lodges. They believe the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad.
The Dream Catcher, when hung, moves freely about in the night air and catches dreams as they float by. The good dreams knowing their way, easily slip through the opening in the center, absorbing the protection from the stone near the opening, and gently slide down the feather onto the dreamer. So gently, that often the person doesn’t even know they are dreaming. The bad dreams being misguided already, become entangled in the web and perish with the first light of the new day. Small Dream Catchers were hung on the infant cradle boards. Larger Dream Catchers were hung in homes and lodges for all to have good dreams.

The Amethyst stone means good news.
The Guardian Angel will watch over you.
The White bead means prosperity.
The Dove is for peace.
