Caroline: 10-11 Months Old

Caroline will soon be ONE! I am not sure where the time has gone but I do believe this has been the fastest year to date.

Birth Stats: 6 lbs 4 ozs, 20 inches
One Month Stats: 8 lbs 12 ozs, 21 inches
Two Month Stats: 11 lbs 4 ozs, 22.25 inches
Four Month Stats: 13 lbs 3 ozs, 25.50 inches
Six Month Stats: 15 lbs, 27.25 inches
Nine Month Stats: 17 lbs 2 ozs, 29 inches
We won't find out her stats until her 12 month appointment but based on our scales at home, she is around 20 pounds at 10 months old.

This month has been a lot like last month. She continues to crawl and cruise around furniture. She is wearing size 3 diapers and 12-18 month clothes and pajamas. She has never met a food she didn't like and eats all the time. She can out eat Mason sometimes. She takes 3 bottles a day of about 5 ozs. Napping and sleeping through the night like a champ. Rocking those two bottom teeth.

Eleven Months Old!! This month has brought a lot of changes for "lil bit" (one of our many nicknames for her).

On April 28 she took her first unassisted steps then on May 6 she decided she wanted to walk for good. We have a WALKER! Since then she has really taken off. Sure, she looks like a drunken sailor but when she falls, she gets right back up.

She also has four teeth now. 2 bottom and 2 top but one more on the way up top. It has poked through the gum. She is wearing size 3 diapers but we are using up what we have then moving up to size 4. She is wearing 18 month clothes and pajamas.

The day she turned 11 months, she also decided to give up the bottle. I guess she saw Mason drinking from a sippy and she wanted to do the same. I'm certainly not complaining as washing bottles was my least favorite chore. She eats what we eat and usually out eats most of us. People are always amazed at just how much she can eat.

Her favorite foods/snacks are mandarin oranges, graham crackers, club crackers, applesauce (unsweetened), Cheerios and peas.

Her vocabulary is much the same "mama, dada, hi, bye bye" but her babbling has picked up and it's so fun to have a conversation with her. She really thinks it's a full blown conversation.

But let me tell you.. sister can have a temper! She can be such a drama queen at the drop of a hat. She will throw herself on the floor, kick her feet and fuss until you look at her. Once you look at her, she gives you that smile and it's so hard not to laugh.

In just a few short days, we will have a ONE year old. It's so hard to believe. Where did my baby go?

Race for the Cure 2013: In honor of Mimi

This year we participated in the Triad Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in honor of Mimi aka my mom. We have participated in this race in years past and have decided it will be an annual thing we do as a family. Supporting the fight for the cure of breast cancer is obviously something that is near and dear to our hearts. My mom is a breast cancer survivor!

It was bitterly cold and windy this year so we made the decision to take Caroline to my parents house while Mason went with us to walk in the race. We had no plans of running the race. We are just going to walk but I was way too cold so we decided to run. I was actually surprised with our time of 30 minutes considering I had run in awhile.

I think there were over 6,000 participants this year! I am glad the weather didn't keep people away.

After the race, we hit the kids zone where Mason saw a pink firetruck.

This is an event that we look forward to participating and supporting each year. Afterwards we picked up Caroline and came home to warm up.. and make silly faces!

Pink and Green Cupcake Party Inspiration

Right after Caroline was born, I knew I wanted her first birthday to be a "cupcake" theme party. This may or may not have to do with the fact that I love cupcakes. For whatever reason, I chose a pink and green color scheme. I am still not sure how or why I chose these colors considering I am not a pink kind of gal but it is what it is. I will admit that they do make fun party colors.

I turned to Pinterest to gather inspiration for her party. After countless searches, I decided to use all shade of pink and green gingham and polka dots. Little Laws Prints designed the perfect invitation for the party. I gave her an idea of what I was looking for and she ran with it. Kristen is wonderful to work with and I highly recommend her for all your party needs.

This is the board that I put together for my inspiration. Using wrapping paper as a table runner is an inexpensive way to dress up a table. What is a cupcake party without a cupcake decorating station? The invitation shown is the one Kristen designed for Caroline's party. Of course information has been changed for privacy. Fun green, pink and white decorations will be hung. I made a balloon wreath for Mason's first birthday and I loved the idea of making one for Caroline. Using candy as decorations is always a fun idea. Balloons, balloons and more balloons. The cupcake liners in different patterns will be featured as well.

I am excited to see the party come together. I know the first birthday party is more for the parents than the child but what can I say, I love to throw party!

So What! Wednesday

This week I'm saying SO What! if: - Easter decorations are still up! Fear not, they are coming down today, promise. - I am more than happy to have dinner outside every night simply because it makes clean up easier and my dining room floor stays clean. - I have been slack about planning Caroline's first birthday party. Perhaps this is because I am in denial that she is turning one THIS MONTH! - I am ready for Caroline to walk full time. I honestly think it will make my life easier. - I have yet to finish decorating Caroline's nursery or Mason's big boy bedroom. I really need to get on the ball and just finish them. - We have decided when we are going to Disney world and even though its over a year away, I am already planning the kids outfits for the trip. - Some days I just want to give up blogging. I know everyone says they don't care about comments but I think that's BS. Everyone loves getting comments. And the lack of comments makes me wonder if anyone is even still reading. That's it for me. Spring Days

Earth Day

First, if you haven't read THIS post by Jennifer from Life in the Green House... stop right now and go read it. It is truly one of the best post I have read in a long time. Read it. Think about it. Then put it into practice.

Now.. it is no secret that I love to go all out for holidays. Any holiday, big or small. I like to use the celebrations as a teaching tool for my kids. Sure, Caroline is a little too young to understand what is going on but Mason isn't. He grasp more and more each day. I love seeing his little mind at work.

So when Earth Day rolled around, I knew I wanted to do something. I am a big advocate for good ole Mother Nature. Not in the "go hug a tree" way even though I did graduate for Appalachian State but in a "let's protect what we have so we can help out kids future" way.

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. -Native American Proverb

I planned a day of reading about Earth Day, eating fun foods including dirt cake and just being outside and planting a few flowers.

It wasn't an big celebration but we had fun and Mason learned a thing or two. All in all, I'll call it a successful Earth Day.

Even this little girl loved Earth Day... to her, any day that she can be outside and swing is a good day in her book.

One of the easiest ways to help make a difference is to say no to plastic bottles! Invest in a usable water bottle and do your part!

Our Easter 2013

I am going to let most of the pictures do the talking. We decided to do Easter Baskets with the kids the night before Easter Sunday since we had to be put very early to ensure a seat at Mass. The kids didn't notice the difference and it was less stressful.

The Easter bunny left a trail for the kids while they were napping. It was great to see Mason's reaction.

We played outside with the confetti eggs while Daddy mowed the grass.

Afterwards,we had dinner outside and of course, I had to make a special "toddler" pinterest inspired dinner for Mason. He loved it. We played a game that he had to eat everything in each egg before closing it. Seemed to work just fine.

Easter Sunday we awake very early and headed to Mass as a family. After Easter service we went to my parents house for Easter lunch with everyone.

I made Ethan, my parents and my grandparents Easter baskets and I think they were all very surprised. I love doing little things for my family. It's the least I can do for all they have done for us.

My parents had Easter baskets for the kids as well. We stayed until nap time and then came home and relaxed while the kids napped.

It was the perfect Easter to worship our Lord. He IS Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

So What! Wednesday

This week I'm saying So What! if: - I still have Easter decorations up. With Easter being so early this year, it really threw me off. - I have a slight obsession with gingham right now. - I still haven't decorate Mason's big boy room. We put his new bed up but haven't changed anything else. - I have been super slack about planning Caroline's first birthday party. Perhaps, I am in denial that my baby is almost one. - I will be sporting major tan lines this spring/summer. We spend almost all waking hours outside when it is nice weather and I wouldn't change it for anything. My kids love being outside and we have a blast together. - Even though Mason has more trucks that I can count, every single time I see a truck in a store I am always tempted to get it for him because I know it would make his day. - I always feel guilty buying anything for myself (new clothes etc) but won't think twice about buying for the kids. Easter Egg Hunt

Each year the church where Mason attends school holds an Easter egg hunt for all the little kids. This was the first year we were able to attend. In true Moore family fashion, we practiced before heading to the hunt.

Mason had a basket full of eggs and even shared with his "girlfriend" McKinley, who decided she wasn't too into hunting for eggs. At the end, the kids were able to trade in their eggs for a treat bag.

We stayed after the event had ended and let Mason and Caroline play on the playground before heading to my parents house for lunch. It was great to catch up with Katie, who was due any day with baby boy Hudson!

It was the perfect start to the Easter weekend.

I mentioned on Instagram this weekend that I was giddy over a magazine I found at the grocery store. The magazine is called Yum Food & Fun for Kids and it has so many different recipes and ideas for healthy menus for kids. So this week I decided to put one on the menu!

Build ‘Em Up: Remembering You

Today I am linking up with some wonderful ladies for the Build 'Em Up series they are hosting. The topic today is Remembering you (taking care of yourself and keeping your identity).

Taking the time to put yourself first and take care of yourself is not always easy or guilt free as a mom. We often put ourselves last. I touched on this topic in January and how I was determined to get myself back.

For two plus years I have given everything to my family and kids and put myself on the backburner. Since I became pregnant with Mason in December 2009, I have been 100% focused on growing and raising kids. I have focused on raising our family and doing what I needed to do for them. I never put myself first. The only time I've been away from Mason overnight was when I was in the hospital giving birth to Caroline. Since Caroline has been born (May 2012), I have yet to spend more than a few hours away from the kids and never overnight.

Don't get me wrong. I am not complaining in the least. I choose to do this. This is what I wanted to do. My family is my life. But somewhere along the way, I lost myself. I let the things I enjoy take a backseat. I let my health take a backseat. When you spend all day caring for 2 kids, a toddler and baby, the last thing you want to do after they are in bed at night is workout. It is my time to finally relax. It is my quiet time. With that being said, I knew something had to change. I was miserable with myself. I wasn't happy with the way I looked or felt. Something had to change.

While I will always give 100% to my family, I have decided I will no longer feel quility for taking a "mommy day" or having a girls night out. I won't feel guility if I take 30-45 minutes a day to myself. I will finally lose this baby weight. I will regain my health and happiness. Because like the old saying goes " If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy". It was time for me to be happy with myself again.

I have started on this journey and it has been so rewarding. To date I have lost 22 pounds since January 14 and I am continuing to improve my health and fitness. I have made big changes in the way our family eats. I have made some time for myself. I still feel guilty when I am away from the kids but I am working on that. I carve out time each time for devotion time and just time I spend in thought and prayer. This is usually before the kids wake up each morning. Making it a priority to "remember myself" has made me a happier mom, wife and person.

Taking care of myself and taking the time to do things I enjoy will always been a work in progress. What are you doing to take care of yourself?

Easter Pictures

One afternoon after naps I decided to grab a few pictures of the kids for our Easter card. All in all, I think they turned out well. I am in no way or have ever claimed to be a professional photographer so to me, these pictures turned out just fine.

I have polar opposites when it comes to kids in front of the camera. Mason prefers to run from the camera and Caroline hams it up as soon as she sees a camera.

Carolines' bonnet is from The Beaufort Bonnet Company and I adore it. It is monogrammed on the back with her initials in pink.

And for their individual pictures..

Masons' bow is also from The Beaufort Bonnet Company.

It's hard to tell in the pictures but her bow is also monogrammed in white with her initials. Yes, I am monogrammed obsessed and proud of it.

Caroline: 9 Months Old

Where has the time gone? How in the world is our baby girl 9 months already? I feel like I say Grow Down, Baby, Grow Down every single day.

Caroline had a great 9 month well visit and passed with flying colors. Mason tagged along for the visit and was such a good boy. He played with his busy bag the whole time while I chatted with our doctor, who we just love.

We have a tall and lean girl on our hands. Caroline is currently eating three meals a day with a snack or two in between. This month we have moved to table foods for the majority of her meals with a few purees every now and then. She hasn't refused a single food we have offered her. She loves to eat. She also loves to drink from her sippy cup. She takes 3 bottles a day each about 6-6.5 ounces.

She is wearing 12m clothes and 12m pjs. She is in size 3 diapers. She takes 2 naps a day and sleeps from 7p-6:30a every night.

Vocabulary: mama, dada, bye bye, hi. She also has learned to wave bye bye. She is a speedy crawler and now walks while holding on to furniture or our hands for a short distance. She has her two bottom teeth and it appears more are on the way from the redness and swelling of her gums.

The monthly pictures are getting a little harder to take...

I'll close with her favorite "trick". The girl loves her feet. I promise we give her enough food. Silly girl.

It's hard to believe the next time we go back to the doctor for a well visit will be for her ONE YEAR visit! Cue mama tears!

Easter Basket Ideas for Kids

Trying to come up with new and exciting things to fill your kids Easter Baskets with can be challenging. I, personally, prefer to not fill Mason's with candy so trying to think outside the box can lead to frustration. But after I did some searching I came up with some great ideas. These ideas are geared towards a toddler boy and a baby girl, since that's the age my kids are in right now.

1. It is no secret that Mason is 1- obsessed with trucks, train, planes, etc. and 2- that he is a bookworm. So enter Land of Nod for their unique book collection.

2. Bubbles. What kid doesn't love bubbles. I found cute carrot shaped bubbles at the Dollar Tree.

3. Happytimes Veggie Pals are a great alternative to fruit snacks. Mason is a fan.

4. Play shirts. I found three different play shirts from Old Navy for Mason.

5. Annie's Cheddar Bunnies. Need I say more?

6. My Mickey loving boy will have this cute Mickey figurine in his basket. Another Dollar Tree find.

7. Crayola Sidewalk Chalk in Easter shapes. This will be perfect for spring and summer driveway entertainment.

8. The Children's Place Bunny stretchies. These pj's are great and fit my long and lean kids the best. And.. bunny feet!

9. Mason really enjoys working in the garden with Brian so this Chasing Fireflies Little Bunny Garden will be perfect.

10. God's Wisdom for Little Boys is another great book addition to his Easter Basket.

11. The Beaufort Bonnet Company bow tie is part of Mason's Easter outfit.

1. Carrot Bubbles for baby girl to play with this summer when she is a little older.

2. Bows. Bows. Bows. What girl doesn't need a bow or two? I love the Polkadot Posies for their great selection and even better price tag.

3. The Beaufort Bonnet Company Bonnet. I can not wait for Caroline to wear her bonnet. It's precious and monogrammed!

4. Happy Tot Pouches. Always a necessity in our house.

5. Little Miss books. I had these growing up and was so happy when I found some on Land on Nod awhile back.

6. God's Wisdom for Little Girls. What a perfect book to add to Caroline's Easter Basket.

7. Sippy cups. We will be transitioning off the bottle soon so these will be very helpful.

8. The Children's Place Bunny stretchies for girls. Caroline is long and lean so these really do fit her the best.

Our St. Patrick's Day

It's no secret that I love to go all out for holidays. Now that we have two kids, it is even more fun to go "pinterest" crazy! St. Patrick's Day was no exception...

Our morning started off with a quick breakfast, shamrock waffles & green milk, before church. We all dressed in green for church.

We always visit my parents after church so I made sure to pack Mason's green lunch before we headed to church.

Chobani yogurt with green sprinkles, green grapes, gold coins, shamrock sandwich, cucumbers and green peas. Also, if you have a toddler try the muffin tin meal idea. Mason loves eating out of the muffin tin. I think it's something different and fun for them.

After our visit with my parents, we came home and the kids took naps while Brian and I finished up some housework and prepped for dinner.

This Old Navy shirt was the perfect play shirt for St Patricks Day!

Our dinner was a Pinterest idea and I loved it. It was so easy to throw together and who doesn't love breakfast for dinner?

All the printables were free and I already had all the green decorations on hand. I've started a new thing of buying the kids one book each for the holidays. Mason is a big fan of the Mercer Mayer books right now so I found one that related to luck and St. Patricks Day.

After dinner it was story time with Dad while I cleaned up.

A few notes about the meals: 1 - I almost always have a spinach salad with our meals. Mason will pick out the "goodies" of the salad and eat those along with the main dish. 2- Veggie quesdillas appear on our menu often. This is because they are a great way to get Mason to eat vegetables. I always change up what I put in the quesdillas based on what we have on hand. 3- The Spicy Sausage Pasta has recieved rave reviews from twitter ladies. I can't wait to make it although I will be making a few changes. I'll be sure to blog about the changes I make.
