What we loved---well just about everything-the riding jackets with military medallions ("channeling Karl Bryullov's portrait V.A. Perovsky")...the woven, cozy knits and Prince of Wales checks in the sweet skirts with flared skater's hems, and straight leg trousers...the double breasted and belted coats, winter shorts done right, and boyfriend cool blazers in sturdy wools, with distinguished shoulders...and the color palette-red, black, white, gray interspersed with checks and a magpie---an English bird that shows up on a sweater (pictured above)...and in prints.

That was a busy night -the first few days of New York Fashion Week---but we caught up with menswear designer---and really recent Academy of Art University graduate, Elliott Evan ---at the Ace Hotel---a few days after his runway debut.

We were bowled over by his outwear pieces...that conjured up Samurai warriors (and Evan concurred...hence the top knots on the model's head and the way he usually wears his hair too.

The leather and the weather tough poplin fabric coats/jackets sport plenty of performance wear features---like extended wool blend arm cuffs, Ri-Ri zippers (the best-all of the top-of-the-line performance wear apparel we review---uses them)...high neck collars that button/zip to ward off blizzards like the one that was swirling around that day...and plenty hidden pockets for the guy on the go.

This mustard wool 3/4 coat is a sophisticated piece of warmth....and we ALSO think a look for the ladies. As Elliott Evan's clothing is custom ordered, and made to measure--- and gender would look beyond hip in most of these styles. Modern and edgy---urban warfare outerwear...yet functional and not the trend of the moment. A lot of these pieces ---like the iconic WWII flight bombers...go beyond trends. Just stylish and smart.

The Fall 2013 presentation staged by designer Rafael Cennamo---left us breathless---and not just because we had to ruuunnnn over -fast-to Lincoln Center so as not to miss this couture quality collection

The luxurious and immensely lavishing gold materials- panne and burnout velvets, cashmere, jacquard, and ornate embellishments/beading of metal paillettes and embroidered lace---coupled with inventive staging---caused quite the buzz for attendees.What a treat.

The Hall of Mirrors - at the Versaille Palace in France---was the inspiration--- mixed in with a warrior princess too, we thought...given the make-up by Bobbi Brown, and styling by Isabel Dupré...fantastic.

The creative dresses, skirts and knits were actually very wearable---albeit-for fancy occasions---flattery cuts, swaths of glam textiles-draped to perfection, bodices to show off curves...slim evening wear frocks and a striking draped ball gown with a tulle skirt-no doubt- Red Carpet ready...and a knit cashmere piece--- pictured above---is day time worthy, imo...

Clearly-much of this collection is hand wrought---and no surprise, the designer does brisk business in bridal gowns (Rafael Cennamo White Couture).

Cute with our hat on...a easy to do, even for us.

As instructed-we let it dry naturally---and when the plaits were let loose---our hair-which was finger comb-able and super smoooooth ---had consistent, frizz free, beachy waves...a look we love!!!! Kinda like the supe model Giselle less the body, the babies, the dreamy husband etc.

The promo presentation of Dark and Lovely showed gals with all different types of hair-tighter and looser curls, long and short---featuring several celebs/models who looked terrific. It should be noted-a good cut is required ---shape is key, we think...as well as the style.

Malan Breton is a real welcome fixture of New York Fashion Week (since 2005!)---this time---showing glamorous evening wear for men and women---styled in an ode to the icon Marilyn Monroe----and so we thought, the other elegant blonde heroines of Alfred Hitchcock's 1950's flicks---Tippi Hendren, Kim Novak, Doris Day and Grace Kelly..and the leading men---like Cary Grant, and James Stewart.

HAIR:

---a new sponsor for NYFW- is a best seller in the UK---Batiste Dry Shampoo---that we've noticed---is just as (or more often) deployed for volume and texture...on clean or not so much---tresses.

What we thought just fab from this brand---Batiste come in fruity scents---AND sure to be a best seller on these shores---with (temporary) colors---a great way to cover up roots. Widely available ---on and offline too.

Hairstylists used a lot of L'Oréal Professionnel too---which was fitting as the team here was also backstage at other Fall 2013 shows for this brand- too.

Snow storms whatever---we knew how good the selected talented designer/students are---all recent graduates-or about to be-from the San Fran based Academy of Art University---who have consistently delivered a show-these past few seasons which should be on the metaphoric speed dial of fashion retailers ---!

AND plenty of media peeps we ran into over the weekend-who did go to this AAU outing, maybe for the first time in a few seasons---were surprised just how "retail ready" the runway ensembles were. We weren't though...not a bit. And when we saw NY Times' fashion journalist Cathy Horyn backstage-looking at the racked clothes with approval---ha ha---SEE.

Prior to the show, we caught up with lead hair stylist Jon Reyman (for beautyvt™) who was actually all smiles except for the one pic we took for some reason...

The look: smooth, smooth smooth-with height at the crown- hair blown out board straight, gathered in a high ponytail... front part teased, smoothed-then all joined together.

THE make-up by Janessa Pare for Aveda Academy of New York was interesting- the "orange eye' kinda had zombie inspiration we thought...while the smoky sensuous eye for the "black eye" that had steely coal grey sparkle to it...some gals more grey than black-depending on skin tone.

Heather Marie Scholl rocked her clothes and "through her garments,...sought to explore the often sexually obsessed nature of the queer culture and the duality of pain and glamour that can come with it..."---as she was inspired by glam/punk music scene. IMO fittingly timely ---with "that' having a moment via the David Bowie Is archive soon on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London...and the Punk Chaos to Couture show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art/NYC.

Next, we talked with Heather McDonald-a Fashion and Knitwear Design Student-hailing from Canada. Her Fall collection "... was inspired by Fritz Lang's 1927 film Metropolis-exploring the relationship between human and technology, demonstrated by the angular silhouettes and contoured knitwear..."

We thought the beautiful sculpted knits-including the elegant rounded shouldered sweaters made of Black Angora wool---lovely---paired with dark charcoal wool pants or skirts...and ready to wear that very night-given the blizzard blowing through town.

A duo of talent-designer Janine M. Villa-a NJ native paired up with Knitwear Design MA-er Amanda Nervig-courtesy of the pairing by Simon (Ungless-Director of Fashion...who "... put us together...it was great ---we have the same work ethic...")

Sophisticated craft---Villa was inspired by vintage Welsh blankets---using the rich textures and colors to make the timeless classic designs---including want it blanket coats, jackets and vests...reminded us of the Native American Navaho blankets that are made into clothing.

Nervig's hand made chunky knits were also inspired by the colors and patterns found in the vintage welsh blankets

The nano-second we saw this etched bone leather jacket---we knew the front-row dwellers who would actually be able to visually grasp the material and detail--- would utter at an audible "wow"...(and they did in our section, fyi).

A trio of talent was responsible for these luxury pieces that would easily sell toute de suite at some high-end boutique...

Designer Teresa Field---a smart, smart lady, incredibly articulate---(Stanford grad/ MA Fine Art in Fashion Design))...was "inspired by artistic representations of the human body, including graphic representations of human anatomy and musculature, as well as the process sketches from H.R. Giger's "Alien."
Once again-"Simon" referred---the talented James Thai (a Textile Design Program student) and jeweler Leah Aripotch (Fine Arts BA in sculpture)---who "just clicked" with Field for this terrific collaboration.

James Thai created these custom leather textiles for Teresa Field's collection---including 'burning' these intricate designs. We asked what happens when he burns too dark---seems like a touchy thing to do-given the material---he laughed and told us he "creates flowers."

Unfortunately we missed two other designers...Yuming Weng-a M.F.A. in Fashion Design student-with a stunning heather wool collection inspired by Henrietta Harris' soft distorted portraits...

Chenxi Li-who took inspiration from the fashions of the 1950's-featuring exaggerated silhouettes and voluminous shoulders and sleeves...

AND Qian Xie---inspired by the ways in which natural light creates shadows in interior spaces at different times of the day---interpreted into geometric silhouettes.

COSTELLO TAGLIAPIETRA Women's FALL 2013

Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra feminine drape savvy ways with work friendly jerseys and body-form conscious fabrics--- are their signature---and for the F/W 2013 runway at at the Meatpacking district's Milk Studios---the autumnal toned (brick, clay, taupe, khaki, brown, wheat...) interspersed with different shades of blue/purple---fashioned into wrapped and belted looks- reminded us of 1970's YSL's attire for the glam Mrs. Jagger (actually, both of them) ...and all looks, were terrific.

"Elegant and timeless"---adjectives cribbed from their bio---that we could't have put better.

Inspiration: "Aerial maps, topographic lines; how at closer inspection these representations of our environment take on an almost floral energy. We used these images as tools to create style lines; superimposing them on the human form and then recreating them through drape and patterning, Proportion, but in the realm of the sensual, conformed to the body in a feminine way that speaks equally to romance and confidence as it does to shape and form."

Keeping warm in a fashionable way- won't be a problem -with several knit cardigans, cape/capelet and jackets made from "alpaca teddybear" chicly paired over dresses, blouses and skirts...those expertly pleated and darted to enhance a gals figure---no matter if waif thin like the models---or well, like the majority of American gals.

Bonus Points: It is very rare in the fashion world to find designers who actually pay attention to environmental impact of the production of their apparel ---and as long as we have been going to their shows, Costello and Tagliapietra have left knotted sling fabric bags made from a material they used---on the seats...a tag explaining that garments are "dyed and decorated with AirDye® technology---a waterless sustainable alternative..." that uses air instead of water for the dyes to penetrate the fibers of synthetic materials.

A reminder that the fashion industry is the second biggest user of water after the agricultural industry...and given that fresh drinking water is more of a precious resource than oil---!

KaufmanFranco -a nine-years old label-is known for their sophisticated/sleek body-conscious urban-wear in rich, sumptuous fabrics, leather and exotic skins- for women.

This outing -the Fall 2013 collection-was the debut on the runway for the duo.

Revlon's Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman created sultry eyes for the show-using Revlon products to get the looks that we think---are do-able city day-to-night makeup for the non-pros to aspire to.

This being a morning show-the backstage was a buzzing hive of activity from the get-go...with the models simultaneously getting hair/nails/makeup done by a swarm of black clad, busy bee artists.

NAIL Trends for Fall 2013---solid colors at practically every show we went to ---here-- using a pretty pale beige-y pink using Revlon ColorStay Nail Enamel in Tradewinds.

According to Westman---and we are quoting the handout-"I wanted to create a look that was dark and ominous...I was inspired by the classic film, Rosemary's Baby, so this look is all about the eyes. I combined smoky grey shadows with ultra heavy black liner and piled on extra lashes for a mysterious and sultry look. To contrast with the gritty textures on the eyes, I kept the girls skin soft and pretty and gave lips a natural flush."

One product that we wanted for ourselves---the Revlon ColorStay Smoky Shadow Stick i Volcanic ($8.99). We asked Gucci Westman about how to use for dramatic effects---"it's easier than a powder and a liquid...and is layerable for a bold color..." And smudge-able too-as plenty of the artists used a sponge tip brush to perfect the lid application,

a 'before' shot---to a discerning on-the grey/black eye shadow needed to be refined....

One thing that we always are reminded of when we see the professional make-up artists at work---the arsenal of tools/brushes they use to achieve the 'look'---when most of the time-we just use our fingers, supplemented with an occasional cotton swab swipe when we really mess up.

To perfect this sultry eye look-the makeup artist took about another five minutes and three different brushes...

REEM ACRA is a designer who knows what women want from their wardrobes---to look glamorous and beautiful...for day and evening affairs (and bridal, of course).

For Fall 2013, this acclaimed designer gave the ladies looks to lust for...from polished, understated elegant day wear, (highlights-a black cape, a lovely diamond tweed kimono coat, and poncho, leather jodphurs, trousers and skirts)-perfectly accessorized with mysterious Jackie O sunglasses and smooth side part hair with neat buns at the base of the neck...

...to slinky beaded evening gowns, ending with the tulle tiered ball gown confections that are fantasy dresses come to life for modern day Princesses.

The first few looks had us of thinking of another designer, Vivienne Tam---with mandarin collars featured on a few black crepe dresses with embroidered details...in a palette of white, black and red.

As it turns out, for this collection, Reem Acra "...mixed with an urban sensibility, recent travels to Japan are on the mind...(and also) a series of photographs from the artist Daido Moriyama featuring abstracts of the female body on fish net stockings, serve as inspiration for fabric layering, combining such as elements as prints, signature embroideries and leather."

Actress Katherine Heigl sat in front of us---love her Reem Acra blue lace frock....

The evening wear -no surprise, was just fantastic and what the audience was waiting for-our fav picks the stunning red side open crepe gown with fishnet overlays, black gowns with fish insets, and knock out embroidered black and white column gown.

Flattering for many body types and appropriate for a wide age range of wearers--
- with hints of skin showing through. The fitted gowns- are also very wearable-with side or back slits---or flounced hems--- so one can actually walk gracefully on high heels...(note to Oscars' attendees) -with the models confidently walking the catwalk-not strutting in obvious discomfort-something we see at other shows.

The last few looks were the big deal ball gowns-including an ivory tulle one with black embroidered details, a black tulle with red hand embroidered detail, and a black layered silk chiffon...any one of which might look great on a younger actress walking the awards red carpet next month. IMO---the slinky fitted gowns look best on any gal over 30...

A mixup of materials cut into slim modern silhouettes...of handsome color block combos and solids of largely neutral tones...added up to mix match ready wardrobe apparel that real men we know would actually wear.

What makes these modern classics a distinct level above the mass merchandised clothes that are in like every mall in America----the details (like contrast trims, hems and quality/variety of fabrics...and of course, the terrific fit.

According to the run of show---the collection "combines a bionic aesthetic with sport, feminine inspiration to represent "The Beauty" and an ethnic, ornamental aesthetic with large volumes inspired by the harsh Nordic winters to give life to "the beast."

Designed/lead by brothers Custo and David Dalmau---since the early 80's...the line-up is consistently wildly bold in its graphical efforts---and sometimes ---imo---really terrific in autumnal shades of warm orange/browns--- a fresh take on F/W 2013 in a week where the predominance of tonal sameness was trending.

For women-the styles were fitted, with pronounced shoulders and ergonomic cuts--- mini/maxi dresses, sporty sweatshirts with feminine details, form fitting overalls, and characteristic short patchwork jackets with unique fusions of fabrics...some that dazzled and impressed! And guys-similarly exuberant-drop crotch pants, heavily worked patchwork jackets/sweaters...including "ethno-futeristic metal pieces."

Another NYFW outing-involving a mix-up of prints-was of a completely different vibe-however----yet also sophisticated...in a wintry, smart girl quiet, feminine way. Inspired by the Mennonite culture (and its iconic quilts)...the presentation by new designer Catherine Litke showed both modern and more Little House on the Prairie silhouettes.

An NYU art school grad...Litke worked as an assistant---then just launched her own line...of cotton-y soft tops, skirts, dresses, and trousers.

BONUS POINTS: Litke has all of separates made right in the garment district right here in Manhattan (38th street!!!)...

Waaayyyy over on the west side of Manhattan-NYCdwelling/designer Heather Lawton staged a well-attended presentation of winter ready separates -set amongst models posed on circular twinkling 'forests'...

The presentation generated a lot of good buzz with the editorial types we chatted with---afterwards.

so pretty-cotton voile blouse over stretch duchess satin skirt with leather and silk details. ....without the fur trim would be a great ensemble

Here's why-wearable modern pieces- including the staple of every other gal we know-leggings, form fitting/figure hugging, soft leather---as want it now as the Daryl K ones we coveted all through the 90's...plus blouses, asymmetrical jersey tops and cute tweedy wool/velvet jackets, satin/silk skirts and dresses (jumpers)-all in basically three colors (black, white, cobalt blue)...that would work interchangeably with whatever one already owned.

We chatted a bit with the designer-who told us she was "inspired by equestrians---I ride horses (fyi-competitively too-growing up in Canada)...and a girl running through the forest---distressed." As in Hansel and Gretel tale we thought-the latter individual...or any young princess-y heroine in Grimms Fairy Tales---attired for the 21st century.

Brooklyn based designer Suzanne Rae Palaez looked to the service industry for inspiration in a sartorially sense---a dedication "that involves giving aid to those in need; to serve the greater good that is humanity....the modest clothing of missionary monks, priests and nuns...the silhouettes and linear geometry of their robes..."

A minimalist aesthetic of mostly neutral tones-cream, white, black grey...with autumnal rust and winter prints-translated into quietly sophisticated long trousers, soft blouses, cozy cocoon shaped coats and blouson jackets, long to the ankle dresses --- with some comfy zero-waste knitwear--- in collaboration with knitwear designer Lindsay Degan.

It was -to quote the run of shows---an "effort to make thought provoking clothing that encourages women the kind of confidence that encourages love and goodness..."

Backstage (really, upstairs)...from the spacious event space Highline Stages---was already a hub of activity when we got there two hours before the scheduled start of the Fall 2013 Yigal Azrouël RTW Fashion Show.

YEAH!!! We first eyed one of our favs...Gina Edwards-lead manicurist for this show-using Julep nail polish in KIRA-an oxblood-a shade that works on all skin tones-ad is "edgy-everyone can wear it...

Gina Edwards-with Julep's Kira Nail Polish and freedom Top Coat. Expect a lot of press for Ms. Edwards-she is lead manicurist of a lot of NYFW shows for Fall 2013. Talent and congeniality are a very good combo, imo.

---topped off with the brand's new Freedom Polymer Top Coat- that "...imparts a gel like shine---and that helps polish last-like two weeks," Edwards clued us in. Impressively-it dries, smudge free in about five minutes with no special light needed. Big Plus-works with other polishes too.

A debut evening collection-the "effortless elegance" was inspired by master of modernisim-the 20th century architect Louis Kahn,

"Simple shapes"-maybe but perfectly fitted to each model---with lingerie like construction---in flattering, flowing body conscious cuts- with often revealing deep back cutouts---that are sensuous-but never gaudy. Think no mishaps with these outfits...and customers with sophisticate tastes ---not voyeur ones-will appreciate.

We loved the luxurious textures and the fabric palette-shimmery metallics, rich silvers and golds---and jewel tone burgundy and red. Lovely.

Polished hair-neatly sleeked back into mid-head buns...natural make-up-glossy lips, contour blush highlight cheekbones, brown rimmed eyes anchored by groomed brows. Neat as a pin.

It's fashion week in New York-with packed schedules necessitating a lot of careful coordination-but an invite by a sponsor GBK Productions---to attend a charity benefit for beatlivertumors.org/Say Yes To Hope...got a must stop by for us.

After all -one of our daily affirmations is---there but the grace of G-d, go I...

We got there in time to hear the amazing Suzanne Lindley speak about her own story...when diagnosed with liver cancer and given a less than stellar prognosis---what it's like living with the disease for these past fourteen years-and what led her on a journey of discovery-including medical treatment options available ( in her case, by Sirtex for Selective Internal Radiation Therapy)--- and then... to turn the corner of life as it were-becoming a passionate advocate- organizing a support institution --- for everyone affected by cancer---a serving up a multi-displinarian team to help/coordinate the efforts of care givers, with actions by family members and the needs of the patients.

Afterwards we did chat a bit with this dynamo of a lady---and asked if she felt it was her calling in life---to provide hope ad knowledge just at a moment in people's lives when they need it so desperately.

"I don't know if it was my calling...I was "just" a little housewife from Texas with kids at home..." Lindley answered modestly...

A sense of humor with a handy cocktail recipe...to mix-up and drink down as your nails are drying...all in a tidy package of cool nail polishes that are free of formaldehyde, TFF, and DPB---- from the aptly named Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics.

Founder Andrea Pahn-is somewhat of a serial entrepreneur---and a mom and a gal who got bored with the nail polishes out on the market.

We never really gave gluten-free cosmetics a thought---but it makes sense if one is sensitive to THAT---after all the skin absorbs a lot...so we were intrigued with Kaia Natural Cosmetics...also from the Great White North country of Canada. A treatment primer-made of argan and moringa oils-is surprisingly lightweight---we tried. And so we were told, moringa oil=from the seeds of the pods of a leafy Himalayan tree, fyi- has 6x the vitamin C of ranges and 17x the calcium of milk. What this means for skin---a formulation that's anti-oxidant loaded, a free radical fighter that helps with pollutants that can wreck a complexion- and rejuvenating-with massive amounts of oleic acid that penetrates the skin, easily.

Juicy Bambo cleansing cloths- are pre-moistened, cleansing clothes that takes it all off-meaning make-up and grime---in a really pleasant scented manner. Interesting- certified organic honey (Canadian), and plant based essential oils-are in the mix---and sooth not irritate---while also doing double duty as a toner. Nice...PLUS bonus-no parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances or alcohol.

Just ask the hundreds of gals who sample Sephora's cosmetic splendors---yet manage to get some dermatitis irritating something...thanks to all those double dippers.

Fun-scents for the holiday

Home diffusers are immensely popular...but for a more intense aroma for an indoor space-with the scent permeating a larger area---incense is more applicable. Parfum d'Atmosphere (aptly coined-ha ha)...is by Osense Paris (and available here at New London Pharmacy).

Nope- this is not your hippy parents' smoky patchouli heavy scent fog inducing thing---but much more elegant---our fav so far the Nuit d'Été à St. Tropez-a transporting Ylang ylang and Gernium ($19.99) PLUS...comes packaged with a mini incense burner -as well as 24 sticks...and all conjure up exotic destinations... imo.

We wrote about Kjaer Weis a luxury refillable -natural makeup collection from last year's showcase...

Its glam packaging (Marc Atlan design)---and ---new Spring 2013 colors were all spread out to admire. No surprise to us---the kits with two or three products, pictured above ---are favored bridal gifts for the bridesmaids.

Aromatic homecleaning...dish and hand soaps, all purpose cleaners, laundry detergent, countertop sprays, scrubs, dryer sheets---that kind of stuff- are less the caustic ingredients stuff---infused with natural essential oils (not chemicals)... but get the job done---and are-stylishly packaged in reusable/recyclable bottles/spray=VERY nice.

We are surprised we never heard of CALDREA® before...but apparently, it's a well established line sold throughout the USA/Canada/online.

Seasonal scented collections-described with top, middle and base notes, fyi----aka this Spring 2013 it's Rosewater Driftwood join year round collections like Ginger Pomelo (with hints of grapefruit, ginger basil)...and our fav Mandarin Vetiver (orange, petitgrain, vetiver). Impressive.

AND: A natural extension of business...the Caldrea body care collections (body wash, bar soap, body lotion, body creme, body oil, perfume $10-$28)...with botanicals properties that heal, and chia seed + rice bran oils...that hydrate, heal and act as natural collagen stimulants for the skin. we tired the body lotion-in Tea Olive Lime-it absorbed right away---and left a very pleasant scent...with a hint of citrus. We liked!

Several other scents are available and smartly grouped by characteristics like fruity, citrus, floral, aromatic, herbal, aquatic and woody.

BONUS-no phthalates, parabens, formaldehyde, sulfates, DEA or artificial colors.

Dr. Alkaitis Organic Skin Care products are collectively one of those adored cult beauty care lines used by those who make a living on their looks-and no doubt-get hordes of freebies...yet remain loyal to what works and seriously -what one can eat.

These biologically active masks are amazing---and a great way to get to know a collection. Four kinds available-we tried the Organic Enzyme Exfoliating Mask-that is anti-inflamatory/anti aging. Mix with a little water (purified, duh) or organic goat milk yogurt and organic raw honey... (1 tsp each)-and use 1x a week/or 2x month. Masks must remain moist on the skin...fyi. $55/25 masks

Founded in 1996-ths family run biz-is based on the principal of using only edible, living ingredients-certified organic/biodynamic and wild crafted herbs (harvested from unpolluted habitats), fruits, (sea) vegetables and virgin cold-pressed vegetable and essential oils. Plus, and we loved this part-100% certified Organic Aloe Vera Gel is the base of the products, not water.

Over yonder in the footwear zone, we met out with the folks from Celliant™ a very cutting edge company that makes a fiber that reflects back into the wearer, the energy naturally emitted---thereby increasing oxygen levels-blood flow, reducing pain, and balancing out body temperature (see the above image). Clinically proven too.

This concept of capturing human energy and reflecting it back into the body for healing purposes is not new---Asian societies have practiced this for like ever--as did the ancient Egyptians...and there are chemically treated fabrics by other manufacturers that do just this too in the here and now.

Very cutting edge. And even any oxygen bump up---any competitive athlete pays real money for that.

Not new to us ---but a new application of...OutDry® - a waterproof/breathable membrane (high water vapor permeability)--- that is directed bonded to a fabric...AND that has a witty MO "...water not included"---debuted at a media breakfast on Day 3.

What makes OutDry® a standout for the lighter/faster crowd...is that there is no airspace gap (microscopic but significant) -between the hardshell material of the object i.e.. the gloves' "bladder"/footwear-"bootie"--- and the inner membrane---so there's zilch space for water to become trapped/ collect (add weight-"...up to 40% of an object's dry weight"!!!!!!), stagnate...or just create cold spots.

Team members from OutDry...an Italian based company, co-founded by the congenial Luca Morlacchi- an AC Milan fan (we asked of course)...were at the press briefing ---giving an overview of the technology.

Then sister brand- Mountain Hardwear actually show and tell-ed the new Spring 2014 backpacks- the South Col™ 70...pictured below...and the pro guide gear BMG™105...that are OutDry® 3D laminate technology endowed. Both haulers are lightweight, totally waterproof-seam welded (saves weight) and super tough packs ...that are roomy too.

How tough was Power Pointed illustrated, by the Mountain Hardwear guys-who tested the packs by filling them up with iron weights and tossing them out of a second story window many, many times---kinda like inspired CrossFit we guess...and, fyi- the pack fared very well with just a few rough-up spots---way better than what our luggage typically fares courtesy of airport baggage handlers-human or mechanical.

Field testing also done in the real world by Ueli Steck...an elite mountain climber.

Another clever fabulous use of a fabric treatment we're familiar with, 3M™'s Scotchlite™ Reflective Material with 360 Enhanced Visibility ...is by minimalist masters of the running shoe SKORA.

Pittards® leather frames reflective airmesh upper that glows when light hits it---women's Phase-X-no tongue design, stitch down construction/anti-microbial sock liner---for ez runs without socks. Nice enough looking to wear around town too.

BE SEEN in the dark....in a comfortable, natural motion rider for the feet. In a way, we are surprised more footwear brands have not done this...trust us-those reflective "pops" on clothing do not do the trick on dark rural country roads. Just ask the road kill- for concurrence.

SKI UTAH-an organization that is the source for the Utah snowbird bound- hosted a welcoming soirée for media types right before Day One...oh as if we needed even more encouragement to partake of the dry fluffy stuff in this state---that makes snowboarding FUN...and easy...with 14 resorts under an hour or so- from the SLC airport---accommodations for every kind of budget---and clearly, eats and drinks -plain and fancy. We barely remember the intricacies of all those alcohol rules from our early jaunts out here from the east coast...but rest assured, no deprivation here now.

Just more reasons to celebrate spending times in these parts of the planet.

The incentive that night- was had at the huge, multi-storied pub, the original Squatter's ---located an easy stroll from downtown hotels---and jammed pack when we got there.

This establishment---and partner, Wasatch Brewery (named after the mountain range that sports all those great resorts)... are acclaimed for it's craft brews/ales...with meaningful ABVs, fyi...and sample some we did.

What amazed us---the quality was as good as any we ever sampled anywhere---and in particular the fabulous Flanders Style Oud Bruin 529 Beer-aged in oak barrels for-yup---529 days. retailing for $20 bottle-a bottle where the mix was re-fermented with champagne yeast---!

Worth every cent-this was easily the tastiest pour we had that night...a Flemish brown sour mash-up with malty sweetness, aged up, just so.

529 on the left---good luck finding any of these bottles outside the Rocky Mountain area. Here's hoping our local Pony Bar in NYC---nabs a few casks.

The nano-sec we saw these flag enveloped sandals at the Birki's exhibit---we knew WORLD CUP---2014 Brazil---soccer, futbol, football=YES...before the reps were about to go into explanation mode.

As if we needed it---but safe to assume it's not exactly on the radar of most USA-ers.

We LOVE...and yes, again---left the booth begging for a pair...in 3, 2...

German brand Birki's-who we assume will have a German version---offers what we think of as hybrid recovery/lifestyle kicks---with its signature construction-deep heel cup, arch supports, toe gripper-footbed of five layers with edging...amazingly comfy and all day wearable. And-you will be on your feet for all the matches...so imo-a smart choice of footwear.

Drama and elegance, courtesy of Russia-St. Petersburg, in particular---inspires evening gown designer and Hollywood celeb fav Red Carpet go-to fashion source, Pamela Roland...who enchants with these sneak peak sketches that offer a romantic glimpse of her upcoming Fall 2013 runway show....(above....and below).

That slice of Europe also serves as inspiration for Misha Nonoo's collection---in particular "War and Peace"...featuring close with military influences....or to quote the press release:

WARNER'S Unbelievable Unwire™ GENIUS LAUNCH

It's official.

This is the most comfortable and kinda sexy, even (boyfriend tested)...but really comfortable WOW is right, great fitting support as good as an underwire (ish) bra we ever put on.

Warner's-in the biz of undercover things... aka intimate apparel- since 1874---spent a few years developing this wash it, twist it, squish it in your luggage-no problem, the 'wire' (really a composite material) never pokes through...then wear it---an always in shape bra ---in fun colors/prints... as well as the basics!

At a media preview we got to try one on---and sure, it fit and was comfortable out of the box---and yes, very unwire for a composite material 'wired' one...that kind of support.

But when we got a personal sample--- to wear all day...and we did ---we forgot we had anything on...and this basically never happens, ever.

We demo thousands of dollars worth of performance wear and gear ---all the time---but the underpinnings of our attire, (the bra part)---the kind we can wear all day/night---and move around in-is never as comfortable as we would like. Till now. Bravo.

BONUS POINTS: Warner bras are consistently sized. Meaning-if you know your size---you can buy and wear the same size across their various collections. Something we are sure they work really hard on...and a bonus for online shoppers.
