I'm back with a closer peek at one of the cards that I will be teaching in my upcoming Handmade Embellies & Card Class. You too, can learn how to make that lovely zipper flower and those felt leaves. I made this particular card using some amazing dies by Lifestyle Crafts (formerly Quickutz) and a Scrap-Mart exclusive die by Spellbinders. All of which can be purchased at Scrap-Mart.

The first die I used is the Spellbinders Scrap-Mart Exclusive Labels 1 5-pc die set:

And the last set I used was an amazing 26-pc set by Lifestyle Crafts called Clip It:

I just love the idea of mixing and matching all the dies in the different sets and they are just the perfect size for cards, ATC's, mini albums, or layouts. And just a lytle food for thought, these dies can be cut on most die-cutting machines out on the market, including the Cuttlebug, Big Shot/Kick, and even my trusty ol' Vagabond! I hope this will inspire you to take out some of your thin magnetic dies and make something fun!

Handmade Embellies & Card Class

Here it is... my first class of 2012! Are you an embellishment junkie? Well, anyone who knows me or my work, knows that I can not live with out my embellies. That my friends is why I can never go digital... definitely would like to try hybrid but not digital... I'm getting off topic, aren't I? Anyway, being the embellishment junkie that I am, I have found that some embellishments out there are just too pricey. I mean just the other day, I found a card in a high-end card store that had ribbon flowers arranged to look like a cupcake for $7! I can make that! So I am here to show you how to make your very own embellishments that you can use on your layouts, in mini albums, on mixed media and home decor projects, even on your clothes, bags, and accessories... and oh yes, on your cards! I'll show you how to use inexpensive supplies, some of which you may already have in your crafty arsenal, to make these gorgeous embellies. ALL the embellishments you see below will be handmade by you in class...

You will learn how to turn crocheted trim, zippers, and fabric into flowers, how to dye your own seam binding or silk ribbon, various stitching techniques including the blanket stitch, how to transform some felt, poly-fil, and some dies into a something cute and fluffy. And oh yea... make a few cards, complete with accents on the inside and on your envelopes, while you are at it! Your class kit will also include a full 6x6 pad of Crate Paper's Paper Heart Collection, a variety of envelopes, and a full sheet of various sentiments so that you can make more cards for any occassion.

Scrap-Mart: Crate Paper Collection Packs

With CHA just around the corner, Scrap-Mart is looking to clear out the old to make room for the new. Check out these gorgeous Crate Paper Collection Packs. Here's a page I made using the Farmhouse collection:

I just love how this page allowed me to showcase all the great patterns of paper that come in the collection. I added some more paint and crystal coarse glitter to my title again and ran some felt through my Vagabond to make those rolled roses. Finished it off with a lytle journaling and hand-stitching. Look how lytle and chubs Kyla was back then! I can't believe how big she has gotten!

Scrap-Mart: Xmas Cards

Happy New Year! I hope you are off to a great start for the year! I certainly am and now that the dust has settled from the holidays, I found some time to make a layout with our family Christmas photo that we sent out along with our Christmas cards this year. It seems that each year, I print off enough for photos for all my cards plus one for me with the intention of scrapping it and never seem to get around to it. So this year with the help of my Scrap-Mart kit and supplies from the great folks at October Afternoon I finally got around to it!

This page was made using the October Afternoon Holiday Style collection: Patterned Paper - Merry & Bright, Silver Bells, Feliz Navidad, City Sidewalks, Snow & Mistletoe, and Deck the Halls; Embellishment Packs - Miscellany, Buttons, Flower Sack, Wrap Pack; Stickers - Label Stickers, Kraft & Black Mini Market Letters. I also used some great products that you can find over at Scrap-Mart: Tim Holtz Alterations Dies - Carved Ornaments & Winter Wonder; Tim Holtz Distress Inks - Antique Linen, Tea Dye; Tim Holtz Distress reinker- Spun Sugar. I also threw in a couple of lytle trinkets from my stash.

Here's a close-up of the ornament I made for the page. I cut out two ornaments and one snowflake using the dies and some wool felt. Then, I hand-stitched the the felt snowflake, the pom-pom trim from the Wrap Pack, and the buttons to just the top layer of the ornament. Next, I stacked the ornaments and stitched by hand a blanket stitch most of the way around, stuffed my ornament with some poly-fil, and continued my blanket stitching to finish it off. I glued the ornament to the page using Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

The other fun technique I have been addicted to lately is this shabby chic glittery look that I applied to the snowman from the Miscellany Pack and my chipboard alphas (Jonathan Mini from Maya Road). First, I painted the chipboard with antique white acrylic paint. Then, I inked them with Antique Linen Distress Ink, covered them with Glossy Accents, and sprinkled them with the Martha Stewart Crystal Coarse Glitter. Finally, when it's dry, I ink them again with Antique Linen Distress Ink for good measure.

It's hard to believe that in a mere 5 weeks I will be here...

teaching from inside here...

where every seat has a view of the ocean! What better way to "Free Your Heart" and inner artist by "Creating Reflective Art For Transformation" at a place where we can feel most free... at the beach!

Relay For Life: Team Hope Garden

Team Hope Garden is a Relay for Life team benefiting the American Cancer Society. We started our team in honor of our dear friend, Patty Donnelly, an oncology nurse who was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2001. In all her 25 years of being a nurse and walking in many charity events for her patients and friends, no one has ever walked for this loving and giving woman until now. Team Hope Garden will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Lake Forest, Ca on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 beginning at 10 am at El Toro High School.

Relay for Life is a family-friendly event and is for everyone who wants to participate… whether you can only walk one lap around a high school track and can only donate $5 to those who wish to run marathons and donate more. Relay for Life is a 24-hour event where our team will walk for a full 24 hours. Each team participating in the event is required to have at least one team member on the track at all times… yes, even at 3:30 in the morning… remember, cancer does not sleep. Our team members will camp out overnight at the school while live music and movies are played. You’ll be inspired and motivated, and will have a good time while doing it. We encourage you to come join us… whether you choose to donate to our team, or come and walk for a couple of hours with Patty (even a lap or two), or become a full-fledged team member.

Please join Team Hope Garden on Wednesday, September 14th at Applebee’s in Fountain Valley for lunch or dinner, or both! Present this flyer and Applebee’s will donate 15% of your check to Team Hope Garden!
