J-ADORE CANVAS BAR PRESS LAUNCH IN SHOREDITCH !

When you read news of launches in Shoreditch, the creative hub of central London, you always want to RSVP because you just never know who you will meet, from artists, to celebrities and be inspired by a brand launch or the creator's energy.

It seems that 325 Old Street, Shoredtich where the Canvas Bar's brick wall interior opened, was able to provide all of the above. Ahead of the event, future guests were asked to find and to take a picture of their Canvas Bar banner which featured the master of imaginative concepts, Mr Salavdor Dali. A nice prequel to the launch ahead.

The venue : brick and super cool lampshades, which were made from fire extinguishers, (no, we hdn't taken a special pill and popped off to Wonderland, the lampshades were real ! We did had this verified after all the drinking !)

The concept : 30+ super exotic cocktail mixes and that has our tongues completed over blown with flavour and fun whilst artist Bortush Leer got monster creative whilst Illustrator Ash White also provided artwork on the walls to discover in between cocktails.

So go ahead and book your tables, Canvas Bar has our J-ADORE stamp of approval !
Open Wednesday through to Sunday but from mid Septmeber you can enjoy a crazy cocktail every day of the week ! Tweet them too @Canvas_Bar, tell them @MPMAG sent you, they may be a little more generous with the alcohol meseaurements ;)

Canvas Bar s'installe à Shoreditch avec de l'Art et cocktails !

Quand nous lisons des nouvelles à propos du début de ce bar, le pivot de la création du centre de Londres, nous voulons toujours être sûr car nous ne savons jamais qui nous allons rencontrer, quels artistes, quelles célébrités, ainsi que l'inspiration d'un certain lancement de la marque ou de l'énergie du créateur. Il semble que ce bar était en mesure de fournir tout ce qui précède.

Avant la cérémonie, les futurs clients ont été invités à trouver et à prendre une photo de leur bannière toile Bar qui présentait le maître de concepts, M. Salvador Dali. Une belle préquelle au lancement du projet.

Le lieu: brique et abat-jour super cool, qui ont été faites à partir d'extincteurs, (non, nous n'avons pas pris une pilule spéciale pour aller au pays des merveilles, les abat-jour étaient réels Nous avons fait cette vérification après avoir fini les verres!)

Le concept: 30 mélanges de cocktails exotiques qui fleurissent avec beaucoup de saveur dans notre bouche, pendant que l'artiste Bortush Leer (www.bortusk.com) et l'illustrateur Ash Blanc( http://cargocollective.com/ashwhite) a également représenter ses illustrations, à découvrir entre 2 cocktails.

Alors allez-y et réservez vos tables, Canvas Bar a notre timbre J-ADORE d'approbation!

Ouvert du mercredi au dimanche, mais à partir de la mi-Septembre, vous pourrez déguster un cocktail de dinge chaque jour de la semaine!

Whenever I think of ClM, I always think, what on earth will he do this season?!?

SS14 saw a host of neon cyberpunkseafairies, a mouthful, yes, but there is no way to express the wildness & grandeur for those that missed the show & the crazy wigs!

This season he is back, with something just as theatrical, but sans LSD...

This expression places Charlie le Mindu right up there with McQueen.

It is too easy to use the word avant-garde within the Industry, however Mindu-s creative visions are just that.

This Head & Hair Couture is a theatrical showcase of innovation, technique & design.

If you have never been to a Haute Couture show before,

which was the case of my second assistant this season, then you may have many questions:

How do you dress, how will others be dressed, why are people dressed like that...

But more importantly, who is Ilja & what an honour it is be invited by Vogue, Totem Fashion & His Excellency,

Ed Kronenburg...

Ilja is an award-winning Dutch designer on a journey of discovery.

From studying Fashion Design to working in Milan & New York, her craftsmanship & tailoring have led her to developing her own elegant forms of innovation within Haute Couture.

Stepping out of the Uber onto the cobblestone courtyard of His Excellency-s home & welcomed by a member of the Totem Fashion team. The sunlit venue was starting to fill with Editors & Fashionistas who were gracefully attended to by waiters with light refreshments. After some general Fashion Week chit-chat, guests found their seats, but not before adorning the flower decorations with Vogue trimmings!

Each guest was welcomed with a rose on their seat in either white or, like the opening of the Ilja collection,

Silhouettes with sleeked hair & wedged shoes, dreamily transform the rooms with coral, shimmer & origami style embellishments.

PARIS FASHION WEEK SS15 JULIUS

Strobe lights, straight jackets & artist hommages are the first things the I think of when I look back at the Julius SS15 collection by Tatsuro Horikawa this season.

So, the strobe lights; as if in a crazy scientist-s lab, strobes of light start to flicker & you wonder if there is some sort of technical glitch. You soon realise that you are entering Julius' Prismatic world this season with ode's & hommages to the late Swiss surrealist painter Hans Rudolf Giger & multidiscipline artists Joseph Koudelka & Naum Gabo.

Wrapped in rubbers, coated wax, the models strut as the strobe lights engulf & retract off their dark silhouettes, sometimes juxtaposed with a white version of the apparel. Many have described the models hair as a sort of Japanese style, but if Tatsuro Horikawa has been inspired by artists, could it be possible that within this prism that the spirits of Albert Einstein & Andy Warhol were also warped into this dark galaxy with a blend of fetichism?

As for the straight jackets, this can only be employed if you take on my references of a
scientist-s lab. Infact these asymmetrical jackets are indeed a general reference to the collection-s Prism theme, leading the zippers represent the refracted light.

The accessories, blacked out sunglasses and black boots creating a forcefield of composure & strength, suggesting Horikawa-s collection to be neo-gothic in its completion.

Who is the Songzio man this season? Tall, Dark, Handsome, yes, with a firm mystery & strength revealed through the clean, robust & determined atmosphere of this collection-s venue & reiterated through the masculine silhouettes.

Wondering through the lit partings where sombre wooden timber overlap yet boldly stand as if to evoke The Songzio Man-s inner turmoil publicly, he walks with continuous mystery & grace, almost lost, yet knowing he will find his way.

. CLEAN . CUT . MYSTERY .

A continuous traveller (see last season-s articl e where he visited Rocks & Nature) it could suggested that this season He travels through the continents, recreating himself: oversized shorts, prints, & chic suits, from the inspirations of his travels, until he reaches home again & reforms himself.

Yesterday saw the opening of the Blogger's Basement Sale by the well known Indonesian style blogger, Anastasia Siantar.

You may seen her famous blond curls bouncing around Paris Fashion Week or some of the coolest Parisian parties, but not for much longer as she will return to her country shortly!

The basement sale, sponsored by M:/P MAG along with other Parisian bloggers such as veteran basement sale blogger Eva Oudenot, was intended for her Parisian fans & friends to enjoy two days of great designer items & gifts from numerous sponsors at reduced prices (only 5-25€, we know that's mad!!!) & yesterday saw exactly that happen!

The Majestic Neoclassical Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, designed by the architect, Léon Ohnet & former home of Adèle von Rothschild was certainly a fitting venue for innovative Architect of Detail to bring his inspirations to life.

Entering with international guests, well known faces within the industry (Susan Tabak, Anne de Champigneul...) & press, the four rooms, illuminated with warm light, were elegantly arranged with white chairs with hints of gold.

Once seated, the light chatter of guests faded away, as, whilst waiting for the défilé to commence, one almost becomes lost in their own reveries due to the intricate detailing of ceiling creations. Soft music plays, bringing you back into a sort of reality. the flow of the tune seeps into your mind, as if a floral scent in the air...

The model glides from room to room, just like the music, leaving only slight gasps of appreciation before gracefully & breathtakingly entering the next. The mezzotint of botanic contours & embellisments, elegantly handcrafted upon silks & satins depicted by an eloquent array of subtle yellows, blush & lilac on embroidered tulle & gazar leading into a tenebrous patterned gown, harmonised with a resplendent wedding gown to complete.

The former boxer turned designer, Arashi Yanagawa, took us on a trip through the rebellious sub cultures of the 1950s: Teddy Boys, Skinheads & Mods

The Strong Edwardian-esque cuts were showcased on individulaistic bottle red, black & blue silhouettes inspired by Minerals & Marble prints.

Welcome to the Digital Plains of Louis Vuitton. For this season-s lounge, evening, outer & knitwear, LV-s Style Director, Kim Jones' traveller takes a step into the Digital Era -- Our collections have always been about travel, but the idea this time was technical travel, digital travel, the implications of the fact that we can now see the world through a screen. We looked at NASA maps of the world from space, and at aerial photographs of Machu Picchu, Cusco, the Atacama Desert, and the Nazca Lines in Peru. Then, we went into those areas and found the finest local materials. The idea this season is combine these refined fabrications with the notion of digital, new age travel, of never being in one place. As is the tradition of Louis Vuitton, there’s a focus on craftsmanship, but technology was important; I didn-t want to make something rustic or nostalgic. It had to feel technical & modern --

All digital images where created from scratch with the models walking the runway with the coolness of their customised shades, juxtaposed with stoney jewels (quartz amethyst, ionite & jasper) & calfskin, nubuck & crocodile shoes.

LV's renowned leathers & the rarest materials; cashmere, vicuña, chinchilla, alpacca, python & silk woven together, resulte in a clean, crease resistant 2-Dimensional collection of Bold Aztecas.

Let-s not forget the introduction of the new Damier Cobalt range. It includes the duffles & folios seen on the catwalk of this season's collection, which are avant-garde reworkings of the original Damier classic.

-- I always think of midnight blue as being very Parisian... I wanted to redevelop the Damier in some way, and for me this was the most logical. It fits with my passion for colour, but it-s also discrete enough to be appropriate for business...-

Although using digital or animation is not a first for the Luxury Fashion House (think of the iconic Japanese painter Takashi Murakami collaboration) this combination of luxury & digital graphic images of the Atacama desert advances The LV Male Traveller into the digital world in which we are forever imbounding as a generation & digitally protrayed this in Nazca lining, prints, hand stitching, aerial photography & Kim Jones' new inky blues.

Walking down from The Arc de Triomphe, the sun obscured by the clouds, through & down the steps that lead to Salle Wagram, press & bloggers snap fashionable figures as the crowd look on, discuss what they are wearing & the upcoming show.

Walking on to the black carpet as the main doors open, the theatrical yet somber room where the show would be held, made you suddenly feel as if you are underground, near a seashore perhaps... On the main wall, a coloured rock display from which the models would soon surface.

The Songzio Design Team, consisting of Keunill Lee, Yukyeoung Kim, Jinuk Jung & Areum Roh, took inspiration from the above mentioned rocks as well as print, penned & painted images from personal collections.

The entire collection of coats, tuxedo & jumpers was a hybrid of robust materials: leathers, new fabrics, soothed & contoured with wools & cottons .

One could imagine The Designer's chipping at large black rocks in Nature's unknown. Each flint & fleck of chipped rock; a piece of Songzio's creations, forging Models which pebbled onto the catwalk as if Slates of with metallic monochromed elements, with golden strikes blue & of acidic yellows, for the guests to marvel.

PARIS HAUTE COUTURE CHARLOTTE LICHA

Haute Couture in Paris allows you to dream of that unobtainable lifestyle some desire more than any other international Fashion Week. From the people in attendance, mostly famous, super wealthy and elegant to the couture gowns themselves, forever taking you to a state where the boundries for fairytale and reverie become reality. So, when the golden bronze invitations with delicately woven open casing were received, (merci Totem Fashion!) for the Charlotte Licha show at the Shangri-La Hotel, we knew that this would be the perfect marriage of elegance, grace & finesse.

A NEW TOUCH FEMININITY IN COUTURE

Her premier collection in Paris titled, POINT as she sees people as small atoms evovling into one bigger Point. This can also be said of the detailed Points of her couture robes: each Point, or embellishment, embroidered in ziberline, crepe silk & gazar, forming the final 32 silhouettes in regal & glamourous arrays of paloma, oranges, off-whites, light blues. ..

As a female designer, not often seen in couture, she is able to give that extra sculpting to the female body as well as understanding what a women wants in a couture gown, as can be seen below with the extraordinary finale piece she titles Illusion Fully Embroidered Wedding Dress in tulle with cape, which we called A Real Reine des Neiges !

PARIS FASHION WEEK HOMME - PIGALLE PARIS

Let's close Paris Fashion Week: Hommes with something off schedule, a film, a family film, but not in its original sense.

Family, defined not by blood, but by those around you in your youth, that you have built, failed, conquered with, through culture, conversation, basketball, nightlife, real life, clothing ...Pigalle.

If you know anything about Pigalle, the brand or Stéphane Ashpool, the entrepreneur and Pigalle Paris creator; then you know that the film that was released to his fans, press and public, would be representated with humility, clarity, streaks of humour, & fine craftsmanship.

Sunday evening, 8pm, pressed between press powdered faces of international fashion press and street savvy coolistas at the Bouffes du Nor theatre in the north of Paris, I started to envisage what Pigalle Paris may have produced for their film premier.

Finally entering the theatre, my head automatically lifted to the height of its wooden grandeur. The press and well known faces were taking their seats on the first floor. Present: Vogue Turkey to international hip hop star ASAP Rocky (who is in fact a supporter and now ambassador of the Pigalle brand) also well as designer Astrid Andersen. The second & subsequent floors were for further guests.

Looking at the presentation sheet, MIKADO, presented by Pigalle Paris, a film by Nicola Peduzzi, creative director and costume design, Stéphane Ashpool... the production list read like a close-knit family affair. The general chatter starts to simmer & fade as the large projection screen motions down towards its audience.

As the titles highlight the screen, you can feel the anticipation in the room.

The film starts.

Fashioned together scene-on- scene with a nod to the Pigalle collectives roots through subtly marked Pigalle Paris woven labelled as well as luxuriously crafted fabric of the supporting actors costume designs. In less than 20 minutes, Peduzzi, Ashpool & the Pigalle Paris Family had not only given its guests film festival worthy cinematic experience, but its has also shown, just like the MIKADO film & collection - inspired by artist Morris Louis, that in just over five years of the Collective's boutique at 7 rue Monnier (Metros St Georges or Pigalle ) that not everything can not be described in words, but through the creation of full fledged Family oriented lifestyle concept.

As I was ushered to my golden seat (by a very handsome young gentlemen, I must add!), I knew that Valentin Yudashkin was a designer that executed the idea of seasonal colours powerfully. Just thinking back to his Winter Ice Queens , I realised how much gold was going to be a present of the show by looking around at the interior. Valentin Yudashkin had surely only had the Ecole des beaux-arts in mind for his Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer Collection 2014. A stunning venue filled itself with golden framed artwork for the models to fulfil the designer's notion of a '...summer gallery of images...'

Imagine a rich young woman walking down Sunset Boulvard in the 80s, can you see her? She is not just any old rich girl, she is educated, passionated about anicent mythology & historical precious element. This was my initial thought as each moving portrait glistened down the shining runway in Scythian Gold body amour...

From Achaeology to Museums, this metal is well-known as a mystical, decorative type of gold forged by a tribe with the same name. Each figure clinched with powerful jewels: the Green of Emerald & burning sunset yellows down the runway.

The move into fresh, lighter pieces, emphasised with contouring were brought about by the defining high waisted skirts & shoulders in Valentin Yudashkin-s double satin jackets & silk summer coats...

The 3D embroided ostentation viewed evening wear was a main feature of the show, which themselves could be deemed features of an exhibition in a historical museum were balanced with the opulent ancient animal prints, chiffon blouses & lattice-style jewellery...

PARIS FASHION WEEK SS14 HEXA BY KUHO

Autumn had evidently arrived as it is already a somber evening on the cobbled streets of rue Turenne. Those of us lucky enough to be queuing inside the waiting area saw the rain quite heavily begin to fall. Once we were let in in small groups, (which felt almost like an obstable course to get through the rain into the main room), we did so by wiping down the trickles of rain from our made-up faces to then being blitzed by the bright lit, black benched room, slowly filling with international press, buyers, a few famous face such as (love her or hate her) the iconic Janice Dickinson (see pic below) & The Fashion Squad,...

...which was where the former Creative Director at Samsung & theatrical costume designer, Juno Kuho would unveil this season-s collection...

Taking my seat quite promotly, I opened the press notes regarding the show, which depicted the intriguing theme of Female Warriors!

Many of the shows that I had visited earlier in the day were either very bright & colourful or clean & elegant; so I wondered whether I about to preview a dolly mix of the two?

With all the lighting & chatter, the room became quite heated & as in true Fashion Week manner, most were now using our wonderfully crafted invitations as a means of mini air conditioning!

A cresence of silence fell as a deep warrior drum undulated from the right side of me. It was time for Juno Kuho to display his adaption of a Spring Summer 2014 Collection with an army of models acting out what I hoped would be a theatric script...

The first thing that caught my eye were the block-wedged shoes. This 3-Dimensional theme seemed to be carried from the invitation received weeks ago through to every crafted heel & hem with versions of sportswear; leggings, t-shirts, coats & elegant dress.

Hexa by Kuho-s Female Warriors entered with braided hair & dressed initially in hues of cream, as the tribal pounding of the drum continued to thunder through the room. From whites to blue-to-black & re-immerging in white...

...almost as through the deeper the representation of colour became, the further the warriors had fought in the midst of war & battle: white [ land ] blue [ travelling by sea ] dark brown...

... & black [ ground where battles were fought ]

yet returning to their land in their original, pure & feminine state.

PARIS FASHION WEEK ALLUDE SS14

One of the joys of living in Paris is knowing more or less where all the hotspots are, which comes in handy when you are running late for a show & designer that you adore!

Get me to Place de la Concorde quiiiiiick! You sound crazy when you say this in a Parisian métro, but that was how I travelled there that morning! No uber for me!

Bref, Jeu de Paume was the exhibition venue for the Allude show. As an admirer of the brand for its beautiful cashmere, I was so excited to see how this collection would be developed.

Tick tock in the queue until reaching my seat where I was somehow pushed back a row (which really messed up my photo style...)

Double bref*, Looking left & right to see which way the models were coming from, then wow!

The first look was light, sexy & casual but in an elegant way; such inspired ways to weave material on the body. The designer herself was inspired by Tomás Saraceno, (I am assuming for the way that he uses unexpected objects & design in numerous & unexpected forms which are fully highlighted in the video at the bottom of the page...)

I think I have spoken enough about the collection, here it is in photos with mini-side view too!

In summary, the elegant use of neutral greys, whites, beiges & shimmers of gold elaborate the soft femininity, yet highly powerful ideals of The Allude woman that the designer Andrea Karg wished to create this season.

PARIS FASHION WEEK SS14 BASEL FASHION

I asked a lot of my contacts if they were going to any of the exhibitions during Paris Fashion Week this season. I have never seen so many noses turn up to the sky.

I shrugged them off because for me exhibitions are really where you can get to understand the collection & the designs vision, especially if they are there...

Right after (& underneath) the Ground Zero show at Atelier Richlieu was the Masterstudio Design FHNW Basel Fashion Exhibition. The fact they you could experience a host of difference disiplines in one space was enough for me to take off my leather jacket which was already sticking to me & enjoy a vodka cranberry juice (of 5..!) before viewing the individual designers.

As a supporter of emerging talents, this graduate collective (Deep Swiss) were very technical & well orchestrated. I always close my eyes a few moments inbetween viewing exhibited pieces to clear my head of the last collection.

Like elegant gymnasts, the models switched from position to pose...

... The AURA NIKE Collection again had animated models with the most vast weaves of straw hats you have ever seen
(The only person I can imagine pulling that off if Samantha as in SATC2!!!) The deep ocean blue lips replicated in the clothing gave the personality to the models as I edged forwards to them. They gave off a lot of arrogance, sexual desire & independance, so that when I read the notes (below) about the collection it was like a brief for the models to adhere to:

The photos for this collection really do it no justice. The girls were strategically aligned & one by one, each model exuded a sort of confusion, timidity, fragility, & juxtaposed to the latter, strength. See video
