Good point, Gary. One of the biggest frustrations I have with the current crop of social media "experts" is that they lead their clients to believe that social media is just another form of broadcast advertising. It's not; it's primarily listening tool, not a selling tool. And thanks for the compliment; I feel the same way about your content!

Jerry, when social media is used for advertising, marketing, and promotion, should it still be called social media? This seems to be the conundrum of the decade. But then we have authentic content creators like you who help raise the bar.

That's a very interesting point Jerry. The Internet content consumers mistakenly believe that all content is available for free. From my experience, the free content on the internet is increasingly, month by month, becoming worthless drivel. The search engine algorithms wrongly promote keyword stuffed text pieces that add absolutely no value and serve to annoy the discerning Internet content consumer.

Having a mascot really opens up the marketing possibilities and makes branding fun. I especially like the mascots at sports events, they are always so fun to watch.

Hi Jason:

Thanks for the comment. I know that's something a lot of companies struggle with; it's a lot of trust to put into the hands of a salesperson. I guess it all depends on the makeup of your sales team: some of them may be better writers, others may be great on video, and still others might enjoy podcasting (think Click & Clack for the performance parts enthusiast).

If you're interested, I'd love to chat about whether or not it's something that would work for your sales team. As for the time and effort, you could literally have your sales team blogging by next week with minimal effort; it's a LOT easier than most people think. If you want to chat, drop me a line to jerry@jerrykennedy.com.

Talk to you soon!
