This is my race report from Mt. Leinster rd 2 of the IDMS

On Friday night me and my dad went down to the track about 7:30pm it took 3 hours to get there . we got the at 12:00 at night it was wet and windy . as soon as we got there we hit the sack .

On Saturday morning we got up early to walk the track we walk it with Joe Ward . The track was really different because it was very old school and hard to keep speed. i went up for my first run of the track about 10:00 and my first thoughts were this is going to be a hard race. I did about 5 runs on Saturday .i had every thing on the Kona ready for the race. When practice finished i went up and walked the track with my dad it was drying out very well after we went down and got dinner by this time it got dark then i went to bed .

on Sunday I got up really early for the first up lift and on my first run i had a very big crash and i thought i was out of the race. I really badly hurt my neck and if i didn’t have the Leatt DBX comp 3 on I think i would of broke my neck it saved my life. My crash was caused by my feet falling off the pedals and my saint brakes were not working then i went head first into a tree. After the crash . I could not do any practise runs cause the track was closed i had to go and do a seeding run with no practise and was not feeling the best at all for the race. i got down the track with a 1:47 I got 2nd 5 seconds of the leader Luke . i was not very happy with it because i was going way faster in practice .then i went up for my race run feel a bit better my run was alright could have been much worse than it went i came down with then same time . The track got slower every 1 went slow in the second run luke got a 1:44 and i came second behind him. after the racing are van broke down and ian mac had to give us a lift home many thanks Ian. I would like to thank Garry at MBW bike shop , Joe Ward at potato bred , nukeproof and eveyone how helps me out . now i have to rest for Fortwilliam BDS in 2 weeks!!!

My dad and I arrived at the track on Friday at 12 midnight – we could walk the track until Saturday morning. Saturday came, and I got up really early to walk the track. It didn’t really suit me the very best because there was a flat pedally bit in the middle of the track. The top and bottom sections were more my thing – switchbacks and jumps! I went up for my first run of the day I was on the 3rd uplift or something. I went up with Michael the owner of Nukeproof. The track was really fun and flowed better than I thought it would – .the track had a 35 ft road gap in it! At the end of the day I think I got like 7 or 8 runs done which was really good because everyone I ask only got about 5. After practice, I walked the track with my team-mates Cam and Luke – it was looking good for the race on Sunday and I was so ready to race!

On Sunday, I got up early for the uplift because they were every slow. .I got 2 practise runs in before the race. I went up for my seeding run – I was not in the best place for seeding because I didn’t race this Category last year. I got 8th in my seeding and was really happy because I wanted top 10 because the track didn’t suit me and this Category is really hard! . By this stage I was so ready for my race run. Before my race run, at the top, I gave the track one last think over in my head – my run went really well and I got 7th, one place better than seeding and I was the fastest 1st year youth in the Category. I was just 1 second off 6th and 5th, so next time I will try for top 5?s

At the end of the day we had to get the boat at half 2 in the morning and make the journey up home to Dromore . I was very happy with my result and hope to better it next time at Fort William which will suit me better.

Just back from South Africa where my 1st world cup took place, I’ll skip the flying as over 50 hours of it is not interesting! We walked the track on Tuesday and Wednesday so I thought I would have a good idea of where I was going! How wrong I was! All the lines I looked at where impossible when going at speeds of up to 60 kph! The top section of the track was fast and flowing with a few gnarly rock sections and road gaps, About half way into the track the fun stopped and the sprint began! Throughout practice i was cruising this to save my legs for qualifying so it was hard to gauge how the jumps would be at race pace.
Anyway qualifying came around and it was time to go! My run went as well as I could have hoped for, sketchy and on the edge in the technical sections and dug deep in the pedals, I finished up in 113th place about 10 seconds off qualifying, For my 1st world cup i suppose it could have gone worse and I have come away with more experience then my last 3 years of racing have given me!
Can’t wait to let loose this weekend in rostrevor! the steep rooty chutes are where me and my Kona belong! Over and out!

A pretty fun pedally track, It was a one day event so we headed up on Saturday night to be ready to go in the morning, Practice went alright for me, Jacob was on fire all day and this showed with his win in the u16 category! I decided to race elites to put a bit for pressure on me, made a few minor mistakes and ended up 6th, not great but I know what I have to do!

The bikes were amazing, covering the downhills quicker then all DH bikes – except the supreme Operator of course!)

Of all the trail bikes I’ve ridden the Tanuki has to be best descender, you can just plough rock gardens like there is nothing there. The Satori seemed well up to the task as well going by Garry’s grin! Can’t wait to get it fully set up and bedded in.
