Bikers Camp 4 is a fun filled, inspiring and life changing (for the better) event that every biker should attend at least once in his life.

It is a 2 day gig that starts with a ride and ends with a ride. By the end of the camp, bikers not only leave happy and with new ride buddies, they leave with a sense of knowing their purpose in life and what to do next to be truly at peace and be one with God. It is a fulfillment unlike any other.

Bikers Camp 4 is an event held by (Christian Motorcyclists Association) CMA Manila with the help of FaithRiders Motoministry for the purpose of helping bikers improve their relationship with Christ. It is handled exclusively by volunteers and is not income generating for the group.

The camp starts at Shell Fort Taguig with a ride to Tagaytay for breakfast (just like any other ride) but continues into the “retreat” portion thereafter til Sunday. During the camp, there will be presentations, teachings by a pastor, games, a night ride for bulalo or coffee, fun talks, some R&R, good food, friends and life changing biker stories you would not want to miss hearing. By Sunday, there will be a short mass or worship service by the pastors and then we ride home to our loved ones.

Bikers Camp is one event no biker should miss. Join na!

For the past five years since 2007, the “InsideRACING Bike Festival and Trade Show” (IRBFTS) has been growing every year and has now developed into the biggest motorcycle and scooter ONLY motor show of its kind in the country.

For its sixth year, IRBFTS will start the second phase of its long term development plan to become one of the best motorcycle shows in the Asian region. The aim is for the IRBFTS to be a significant event in the calendar of the Asian motorcycle industry.

Part of this plan is to move into a new and bigger venue where our participants can exhibit their brands and products in a bigger and world-class environment.

InsideRACING believes this is a very significant step forward not only for the IRBFTS but for the local motorcycle industry as well in their role to further elevate the motorcycle lifestyle.

Therefore, the “6th Annual InsideRACING Bike Festival and Trade Show” will be held at the country’s top exhibition venue, the SMX Convention Center (Hall 1, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City) on March 31 & April 1, 2012

The SMX Hall 1 not only provides a better location but also has 30% bigger floor area at 2,750 sqms as well as sufficient air-conditioning compared to our previous tent venue. This will result to better comfort and accessibility for the participants as well as the event-goers.

To remind every rider of their main purpose and their reason for riding, may it be a hobby, a passion, a way of life or one’s means to commute. We share the roads with not just fellow riders, but other vehicles and pedestrians as well. How we must maintain discipline, safety and responsibility for our property and when we take on the roads with our motorcycles. How we must be prepared to accept and acknowledge the problems and do our part in helping out in fixing these problems. How we must embrace change and help instill it with every single rider out there.

Facing Reality:
With the rampant growth of the motorcycle population, the government is facing a very difficult and challenging issue. They have to maintain control and keep our roads safe for everybody who uses it. This is not an easy task and our cooperation is imperative to ensure that the measures being done are carried out properly and equally amongst all road users. We must understand that being on the road is not a right, but a privilege. However, we all have the right to achieve that privilege by proving ourselves worthy of the licenses we all carry with us.

Simply put, we have issues surrounding motorcyclists and we have to accept and acknowledge these issues first and foremost. Starting from ourselves, we must practice the proper behavior and discipline on the road and share that with our fellow riders as much as we can. Once we have done what we need to do within our own ranks, we then help the government by being good examples on the road. This is your simple monkey see, monkey do scenario.

However, we are facing legislative issues where our rights are being taken for granted. We must remind the law makers and enforcers to respect and adhere to constitution and the rights granted to us as citizens of the country. We must help them get back to the right path and offer our knowledge and cooperation when necessary and maintain the status quo on the laws that govern all of us. We must report those who enforce and break the laws at the same time so that they can clean up their own ranks as we clean ours.

Official Position Statement:
With that said, we are here not to file protest or regress towards them but, we are here to remind them that we have rights and that we humbly ask them to enforce the existing laws instead of creating new ones. To ask them to follow the old procedures and apply the strict implementation of the existing laws and procedures before and after we acquire our licenses. To let them know that we are here to offer our assistance and cooperation in getting everybody, private, public or government back on the right track. To help remind everybody to adhere to the Constitution and Bill of Rights that guide us all. To help in letting everybody know that we must work together and not against each other. To help remind every single road user to respect others to be respected. To remind everybody that we have rights as they have theirs.

So in the essence of unity and change, we call on every rider to be part of this era to help provide safer roads and equal treatment for all road users. To provide support and offer suggestions during consultation for projects aimed at safety and law and order. To unite the community and advocate discipline, safety and equality for all road users. To show the world that not all riders are irresponsible, careless, undisciplined, criminals and a nuisance on the road. That we can share the road and respect all those who do the same.

And with that said and put aside, let us now start with the long road ahead by stating our opinions and suggestions for the government below. Everything will be compiled and be presented to them when we are given the opportunity to do so. Please keep your posts relevant and diplomatic. The use of profanity and jargon will not be tolerated. If there are questions to be asked, please keep the answers relevant and avoid side comments.

Weather and Road Conditions

Inclement weather can be disruptive and discomforting. If the weather is too severe, take shelter. Be extra cautious when rain first begins to fall. The road is slickest at that time. Avoid riding on the “glossy” (oil stained) area of the road at all times, but especially during or after a rain. Stones on the road are dangerous…be careful. Gravel behaves like ball bearings on a hard surface. Avoid potholes when you can safely do so. Potholes can damage bike rims and cause accidents. Signal others with your heel pointing down at road hazards.

Mechanical/Electrical Problems

Mechanical/electrical breakdowns can happen to any motorcycle. Someone will be designated to help, or have someone with a tool kit and cell phone stop to help the problem motorcycle outside of Metro Manila only. While within Metro Manila, you are responsible if you encounter bike problems that require you to stop. Other riders should continue the run.

Accidents

In the event of an accident, pull over with the group. Do not panic stop or rush to the scene. This may cause more problems. Do not move an injured person or remove their helmet. Do not allow a tow truck to take the downed bike. Locate a safe place to leave the motorcycle until a motorcycle hauler can pick it up.

Security and Parking

Participants in a ride may be required to watch motorcycles (if necessary) for a short time, in pairs. When parking, the leaders should direct the bikes to an area out of the traffic pattern. No one wants their bike side swiped or damaged by passing vehicles. Leaving a parking area should be done with caution, and consideration of others exiting… blockers may be needed to promote safe egress.

Law Enforcement

If the police or enforcers stop the group, the Spearhead should lead the group to a safe place. Riders should stay in formation (by or on their motorcycle). Allow the officer come to you. The Spearhead should be the only one who approaches the officer and should promptly identify him/herself.

Responsibility

A group, organization, or club is not responsible for accidents, injuries, thefts, etc. Each individual is responsible for any violation of the law. Riders ride at their own risk.

The group should meet before and during the ride regularly to pass along information. If you do not understand something, get clarification.

Experienced riders should get to know riders with whom they are riding. Encourage new riders to be cautious and to ride at the group pace…not unsafely or beyond their personal comfort level.

The group should ride to their destination in formation. If a motorcycle does not wish to stay with the group at the end or during the ride, wait until all bikes are parked before leaving the group.

If you leave your place in the group, re-enter at the rear, in front of the rear Ride Captains.

Riding in an unsafe manner with a group should not be tolerated. The safety of the group is everyone’s responsibility. It is a rider’s obligation to report noncompliance of any group-riding rule to a Spearhead or Sweeper… a life may depend on it. Showoffs and hot rods should not ride in a group.

Know and ride by these rules, or do not ride with a group.

Safe riding is a group priority.

Relevant Questions:
What is a safety cushion?
What is the three (3) second rule?
What makes an experienced rider?
How often should you look in your mirror?
How should a Sweeper handle a safety violation?
Is it better to ride in a large group, or several smaller groups with an equal share of experienced riders?
Who is in charge of the ride, and where is the destination (and stops)?

For Ride Marshals, Spearheads and Sweepers:
1. Refelctorized vests is mandatory. If you don’t have one, borrow or just ride with the group and let others do the duty of controlling the ride.
2. Use cellphone headsets for communication purposes. The important numbers to call will be provided for.
3. Install “Marshal” flags on your bikes. Make sure it is secure and will not hinder the operation of your motorcycle.
4. Marshals must be in the assembly area on or before 1:00PM for the last pre-ride briefing.
5. No “lagare” style of controlling the group. You must be in formation also.
6. Break away from formation only when necessary (traffic assistance, rider/bike problem, switching from marshal to temporary spearhead, etc.).
7. Traffic marshals will be with the spearhead and will break off to allow the group to follow through an intersection or to warn other vehicles of the group.
8. Going back to your original position must be done with utmost respect to other vehicles and without over-speeding. Be a good example to others.
9. Do not block other traffic when unnecessary. We do not own the road. Share it.
10. Assist the other vehicles trying to cross the line. Move in towards the vehicle who has the intention to cross the line and slowly guide the ride group to slow down and allow the other vehicle to cross. Then move into the temporary spearhead position and slowly allow the group to catch up with the lead group.
11. Group 2 will join in from the rear of group 1.
12. Assist in the launch and the egress points.
13. Assist in arranging parking properly.
14. Assist in cleaning up the area where we assemble.
15. Assist ride participants when you can and direct them to the ride officials when needed.
16. Be courteous and smile to all riders as well as other road users.

Others to be announced…

- These groups were carefully selected and we would like to ask everybody to respect the marshals, spearheads and sweepers and follow their instruction. If you feel that they have gone beyond their capacity and would like to report it, please don’t hesitate to approach the ride officials listed below.

Not being a modular helmet fan, I was hesitant at first to do a review of the LS2 FF386 helmets, specially since none of the past modular helmets, of ANY brand, seem to fit me properly.

But when Motoworld announced that they had the FF386 in High Visibility Yellow, I had to give it a try. I am a big fan of high visibility helmets. I believe they’re the best thing on the road to get seen, specially at night. I make it a point to always purchase light colored helmets and these were as light as you can get them.

Color:

High Visibility. Enough said. These babies are LOUD! You can be seen a good hundred meters away, even at night. The color works as advertised. Though they do come with a disclaimer about how the color may degrade when constantly exposed to heat/sunlight, I think that’s a small price to pay for the added safety to the rider. Besides you can always exclusively use it at night. Haha.

Shape and fit:

One of the reasons I’ve been partial to LS2 helmets was its shape. I have a big noggin so it’s quite hard for me to get a great fitting helmet. LS2 helmets have been quite easy to fit, save for a few models which I just cannot catch a break on. The LS2 full face helmets have a really comfortable on me and has been my staple helmet for my club’s long rides . The FF386 however was a revelation. As I mentioned before, modular helmets have a tendency to be small, and this model was no exception. I was given the largest size XXL which suprisingly fit quite well, albeit a bit tight on the jaw. A few adjustments to the cheeks and the helmet was a perfect fit. One problem did arise though when I tried to fit in my communication system. The Parrot SK4000 uses thick speakers which produce an awesome sound. But the ear recesses of the LS2 FF386 just could not accommodate the speakers of the Parrot. No fault of the helmet though, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to replace my bluetooth communicator to ordinary hands-free units in a ride.

Visor and Sun Visor:

The visor of the FF386 is crystal clear. No distortions and no difficulty in the mechanism. The first notch is still a bit too open but it’s just really a matter of personal preference. The Sun Visor is great as well. The button for the visor was easy to work and could be engaged/disengaged on the fly. I also like the size of the inner visor. It covers a big part of the riders face, including the cheeks which are usually exposed to the sun under direct sunlight. Another small but significant plus for me.

Ventilation:

Ventilation on the FF386 is great. At medium to high speed the vents work like a charm. On the way up to Mt. Data in the Mountain Province, the weather was cooooooold, not once did the helmet fog up even though I had the visor shut. Another nice feature of this helmet is the collar. The collar on the FF386 does not allow any sort of airflow come in under the chinbar as well as any part of the helmet. This is great because it does keep the noise level down and prevents sudden bursts of wind blowing toward your eyes. Wind noise in modular helmets are unavoidable. The flip up mechanism just gives the wind too many cracks and crevices to sneak into, specially at high speed. Not a big problem below 100kph. Above it, you might want to use ear plugs, which you really should be using in the first place.

Other Items:

The Micrometric retention system is quickly becoming my favorite. These things just work. Easy to adjust, easy to put on, easy to release. They might not be the best for on track use (Double-D’s are still king) but for everyday use, these are tops.

Weight is not an issue. All Modular helmets are a bit on the beefy side and this one is no different. You do get used to it quickly though. I had no problem with the weight of the FF386 on our 12 hour trip up the mountains.

Conclusion:

Modular helmets have come a long way since they were first introduced. The mechanisms have improved making them a lot safer and easier to use. The FF386 is a great modular helmet with tons of features you find in more expensive helmets. The build quality is top notch, the optics are ultra clear and add to that, it comes in High Visibility Yellow and you’ve got yourself a fantastic all around helmet you can use for any occasion.

The Motorcycle Rights Organization has won a small but sweet victory against the implementation of the Motorcycle Lanes. Nope the dreaded lane is not suspended but the rules of it’s implementation has finally been released and they’re quite telling.

The brouhaha started last Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012 when the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforced the Motorcycle Lane along EDSA without any Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRRs). The graphics shown on TV as well as reported by those apprehended by the MMDA revealed that aside from apprehensions based on the lane violations, the MMDA was enforcing a long suspended Land Transportation Office (LTO) AHS-2008-015 which rendered motorcycle modifications, among other violations, illegal. Motorcycle Philippines (MotorcyclePhilippines.Com) was there when this was suspended so we were up in arms when the MMDA began using the Administrative Order as a basis for apprehension along EDSA.

After several private exchanges with MRO head Jobert Bolanos, Atty. Yves Gonzalez of the MMDA finally released the formal rules and regulations last Friday, effective today Monday, February 20, 2012, and it does not include the aforementioned violations. The MMDA has admitted that they were not aware that the Administrative Order was suspended. The MMDA being an executive body cannot create any law but will have to rely on existing laws/ordinances and base its action on that.

We are still in the position that the Motorcycle Lane is dangerous to everyday users. The infrastructure of Metro Manila is just not ready for a lane for Motorcycle Use. But, in the meantime, this will have to do. This will make things easier for our brothers on the road and lessen the chance of them being used as targets for illegal apprehensions.

According to Jobert Bolanos, the rules apply both to the Commonwealth and Macapagal Ave. Motorcycle Lanes as well.

Thank God for small victories.

First and foremost, the Motorcycle Lanes as done by the MMDA is both wrong and dangerous. They were implemented without giving any thought to the welfare of the riders as well as the other users of the road. Haphazardly placed and hurriedly implemented without Implementing Rules and Regulations, these lanes were touted as savers of the riding public but behind it lay a different story. I will not delve into the legalities of what the MMDA is doing as well as the statistics that the good Chairman just loves throwing at us, we have the MRO and Jobert Bolanos to speak for us regarding this. I’d like to seek a deeper, darker movement going on in the guise of public safety.

The MRO has been against this version of the Motorcycle Lane act from the very beginning. It was clear that no proper consultation with rider groups, except maybe for one favored one. After voicing out this concern to various parties as well as media entities the MRO was answered, quite dismissively by the MCPF. As stated in an interview by MCPF Head Atoy Sta. Cruz.

This was purely false since as far as I know the MRO has not received any invitation to any hearing held by any government agency with regards to the Motorcycle Lane. This conduct is already old news to us since this has happened before. The MRO has always given way since it has accepted its role in the check and balance of the Motorcycle Community.

What worries me is what’s happening now. Political ambitions have been announced and the intentions of various groups to run for Sectoral Representatives for the next congress via a Motorcycle Riders Party List have been floated. In all honesty the country does not need anymore lawmakers, we have enough of that. And to be perfectly candid Motorcycle Riders are not marginalized sectors of the society. Heck we have money to buy motorcycles, that doesn’t make us marginalized, we have enough laws to protect us from abuse, that doesn’t make us marginalized. What we don’t have is a unified national presence that will enable us to lobby for what riders need. What RIDERS need, not what so called “RIDERS” want and fantasize to be. It’s hard to be sympathetic to a group if you are just pretending to be part of it. A wolf can never represent sheep. Eventually the wolf will be found out and will be put to task for its actions.

The current Motorcycle Lane fiasco along EDSA includes a seminar by an LCD TV or Tarp Banner of what is illegal. Among some of the obvious illegal actions on a motorcycle are…”Any kind of modification done on a Motorcycle”. This is a rehash of the LTO AHS 2008-15 which was suspended by the LTO because it does not have any clear basis and no course of action, in short, it would be almost impossible to implement. Now we have the MMDA implementing this portion of the suspended Administrative Order on hapless riders along EDSA. I thought they were just going to apprehend them for riding outside the lane? Now no modifications on bikes? Please MMDA and of course MCPF, please show us the proper guidelines as to how they will know what modifications are done.

This is specially painful for us who were there in September 2008 who fought to have this Administrative Order suspended. MCPF was there, as support, and we thought they’re still with us. Apparently not. They have compromised their position for the political ambitions of a few. Kowtowing to powerful people in government while leading a blinded flock to imminent danger with false promises. It’s a sad day for the community, at the same time, at least it’s now clear, we know where their interests lie and it is not with us.

Thank you for making it crystal clear.
