Sometimes little ones need an extra set of wheels to get around. Their parents and guardians are encouraged for both safety and convenience reasons to fold up strollers when they board the bus. However, as stroller-design has evolved over the years, we understand this is sometimes a difficult task and these small riders need a place to safely sit.

In February of 2011, MCTS began with a test phase by adding a stroller and cart area to 30 buses including asking customers if they like the adjustment. Since customers responded positively, 50 more buses were retrofitted with a stroller and cart area in 2012. In 2013, MCTS is continuing moving forward by adding a stroller and cart area to its entire fleet.

MCTS recommends using an “umbrella” style stroller (pictured) and currently recommends passengers fold and place strollers out of the aisle. The stroller area allows passengers to easily park strollers or carts on board buses without folding them. It makes exiting the bus faster and easier as well.

On most buses the area is located on the driver’s side in the middle of the bus by the rear exit door and can accommodate a maximum of two strollers or carts. On the newest buses in the fleet, a single row of seating behind the driver will accommodate multiple passengers with carts and strollers. We appreciate your help in keeping your public transit system safe and enjoyable for everyone.
</a10:content>

100 Reasons to Ride the Bus

In celebration of Earth Day 2013, we asked customers to give us their Reasons for Riding the Bus. We had a terrific response. Thanks to everyone who participated and as always thank you for riding MCTS!

Because that's one of the benefits of living in a city: good transportation to work/home/play.

I've made a LOT of friends on the bus, and the bus drivers are always so friendly and nice. Way better than driving alone to work.

No paying for gas, auto insurance, parking... Why wouldn't I?

Peaceful ride.

Grateful for the bus. I don’t drive and I’ve been using the bus since ‘73.

Far more convenient than driving in my commute.

A morning snooze on the bus beats road rage any day.

Newer, faster, cleaner buses and the money savings. Boy howdy!

To save $$, to spare the environment, & can ignore traffic & read, read, READ :)

It is a fun way to get to where you need to go. You meet a lot of nice interesting people.

CAUSE IM AWESOME ^_^

I love how much work I can get done on the bus!

It’s always cozy warm in the winter.

Great way to see the city without having to spend gas money doing so.

I ride the bus to get away & de-stress. A fun way to disappear.

I fired the limo guy.

I Ride The MCTS To Get Where I Need To Go, I Love The Ride… They Be Smooth No Problems...

Because it's free for me! Yay for U-PASS!

My daughter bought her house with money she saved by riding the bus instead of having a car.

It’s cheap and easy!

MCTS helps build community!

Saves me almost $6000 a year, which is essential for a student with books to buy!

So I can get everywhere.

The money I save riding the bus will help me retire early.

I ride MCTS because it beats the heck out of walking in the snow or rain.

40U to get to school.

I have extra time to check my email.

I hate driving ... well, other drivers.

Being a long time rider allows me to encourage others to live without a car.

No car repairs.

Bike racks – great idea!

It’s easier (and safer!) to text and ride.

Because when my truck breaks I still can get around without asking for a ride. Plus u really get to see the city.

I ride MCTS because it gets me to where I want to go J

After a long day at work, I have time to relax.

I ride the bus because it's safer for me to commute in Milwaukee. I don't drive and it gets me where I am going. As a kid growing up I always was on the bus with my mother so thank you MCTS.

Independence. I can’t drive, so without the bus, I would not be able to go where I please.

They run often and the system is easy to use. Thank you!

I try to live sustainably, and public transportation reduces our reliance on oil.

Less traffic congestion. Each bus carries enough people to keep several cars off the road.

With the new clean diesel buses, riding the bus is even better for the environment.

It saves me money and is stress free compared to driving.

I would have never gotten to go to a lot of the places I have been very fortunate to see.

I like the way they smell.

It's convenient and all that walking helps me stay healthy!

I don't have a car, and MCTS helps me get around MKE :)

I plan my day while I ride the bus in the morning. It helps me keep organized!

Love. I met my husband while riding the bus!

Because the new lines get me door2door instead of connecting routes & MCTS has the best festival shuttle service ever!

I ride the bus because I'm not medically allowed to drive. The drivers are always very accommodating and polite.

Too poor for a car.

I can take my bike on the bus in the morning and ride it home for exercise.

I get more time to spend with my family because we ride the bus together.

I get to class on time!

The bus has always gotten me to where I needed to go in a timely manner and I couldn't imagine my life without it.

I like to meet new people and the bus is the perfect place!

I enjoy kicking back and listening to my tunes.

I volunteered at my children's school twice or three times a week, all on the bus.

I am very much a bus person and am proud to be one.

People-watching is great on the bus!

I learn things from people I talk with on the bus – about occupations, families, places I never heard of – my world is bigger because I ride the bus.

Daydream time.

I take the MCTS Route #76 & Route #10 bus every day to get to work.

We are supposed to live with seven future generations in mind. Public transportation provides a more sustainable future for them.

It’s always cool in the summer.

I like to ride the bus when I go downtown. It’s a headache to drive a car and not find parking. The bus is better!

Summer festivals! I love riding with my friends and we don’t have to worry about driving.

My employer offers the CVP pass. After nearly 150 guesses, MCTS would like to congratulate Lavelle Y. of Milwaukee with a winning guess of 5,475! The correct number is 5,399. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and we hope to see you again next year!

Note: The bus stop count was from a live, active count taken at approximately 2:30 pm April 9th, 2013. Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus with their bike. This is an increase
of 55 percent over last year from January to September! By the end of the year
if the increase continues at this level, it is expected the year total could be
as high as 140,000.

As a way to thank our customers, any
rider who places his/her bike on an MCTS bike rack, will not have to pay a bus
fare on Friday, October 5,
2012.

Lloyd Grant, Jr., MCTS Managing
Director commented, "It is remarkable to see the steady growth in bike rack use
by riders over the last three years. It is a good investment by Milwaukee County
that has greatly expanded the benefits of public transit in our
community.”

All buses were equipped with bike
racks as of August 2009, after it was approved by the Milwaukee County Board.
Milwaukee County’s cost (local match) was roughly $20,250 while 95% of the total
cost ($384,750) was received through a federal grant.

"As a cosponsor of the resolution
seeking federal funding for bike racks, I'm thrilled to see our investment is
paying off," said Chairwoman Dimitrijevic. "Attracting more riders and helping
make more intermodal connections are wins for improved traffic patterns and our
local environment."

“I’d like to thank the Milwaukee
County bike community for using the Milwaukee County Transit System, for being a
great partner and for serving as an example as we look to grow Transit with
like-minded groups,” said Supervisor Michael Mayo, Sr., chair of the Milwaukee
County Board Transportation, Public Works and Transit Committee. “Bike racks not
only help improve the environment, they also attract more riders to MCTS, making
them a win-win for the Transit System and the residents of Milwaukee
County.”

Comparatively, each month, there has
been an increased use over the previous year since the program began.

The higher number of Bikes on Buses
this year is not only positive news for MCTS, but it’s great for the community.
People are biking as part of their transportation plan, which indicates that
many in our area are using habits that promote living a healthy, sustainable
lifestyle. Bike racks make it even easier for MCTS passengers to leave their car
at home for their workday commute, head out to explore Milwaukee County Parks
and bike trails, or enjoy a bike ride after work.
</a10:content>

Hear Our Employees, Community Leaders and Riders Tell Our Story

Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) is an integral component to a vibrant and healthy community and we are proud to tell our story. Our reliability, safety and employee excellence is something we are proud to share with everyone. To boost ridership and let the community know more about us, we are launching new advertisements which emphasize the high standards we adhere to.

These new commercials were produced with the assistance of our employees, dedicated riders, County Executive Abele, Police Chief Flynn and UWM Chancellor Lovell. This is a great time to showcase our efforts and encourage even more people to try transit. MCTS ridership increased 1.5% last year and new limited-stop bus service started in January. At the same time, many community leaders and the public are focusing on the value of transit during this pivotal period.

As you know, many depend on MCTS employees to get them to work each day so they can provide for their families. And, as individuals and companies experience the difficulties with gas prices climbing to new levels, they are looking at transit and realizing more than ever the value of their local transit system.

Our story and the vital resource we provide to Milwaukee County is very significant and we are excited to tell it.

<a title="To view the new television campaign click here. It is time that we recognize the efforts that are made, especially when someone goes above and beyond.

The following are bus drivers who were spotted doing an excellent job of customer service. It might have been something simple, like giving good directions to a new rider or something extraordinary like, quickly reporting a traffic accident they just witnessed so emergency responders could assist. Each day we receive commendations from MCTS customers, recognizing our drivers for going that extra mile.

The following bus operators are among those who have received the MCTS Operator’s Award of Excellent Customer Service. The individual, who had boarded the bus she was driving earlier that morning, was reported missing for most of the day. With Dathy’s assistance, Brookfield Police were able to locate her and return her safely to her family. Thanks again for your cooperation and keep up the great work!

Jeannie

A regular customer reported that Jeannie is the most joyous and wonderful person. She is always in a good mood and when tired passengers board her bus, she brightens their day immediately. She watches and waits for the regular customers to ensure that they make their connection. On February 25, the customer saw another passenger who had to make a bus connection so Jeannie, once again, made a point to get her there on time to ensure she made her connection. Thank you Jeannie, keep up the great work!

Sandra

The customer reported that Sandra was stuck in heavy traffic on I-94. Fortunately, Sandra did a great thing and ended up exiting the expressway and took I-794 over the Hoan Bridge.

The customer was very happy about that because he got to work on time. Customer service is important, so we want to recognize drivers who go above and beyond. Maybe you had a nice experience with an MCTS bus operator which you think the company should know about?

Whether its holding the bus for a late customer, giving directions to an unfamiliar place or providing extra assistance to a passenger in need, you can report such positive actions to our Customer Service Department. Commendations will go on the employees record and they will be eligible for a customer service award.
Passengers can give commendations through the following methods:

RideMCTS.com Commendations Form

By calling the Customer Comments Line at 414-937-3218, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

By tweeting @RideMCTS

Please have the following information available:

Route

Day/Date

Time

Direction

Location

Description of the good deed

Additional information, such as the four-digit bus number, description of the driver (gender, etc.), or operator name is also helpful.
