Comparison Between Nokia 100 vs Nokia 101

Nokia announced two new devices, the 100 and 101, that are on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. They’ll cost just $30 and $35 respectively, making them the cheapest devices the Finnish handset maker has ever launched. From the outside they both look the same, but the 101 is special because it’s a dual SIM product. We’ve reached out to Nokia to find out if the two SIM cards are active at the same time or whether manual switching is required. Speaking about software, these devices run Series 30, Nokia’s lowest end operating system, meaning no applications for you! You wouldn’t want to run apps on the small 1.8 inch screen anyway. Both devices have a flashlight, FM radio, and the 101 even has a microSD card slot and MP3 player. Expect the 100 and 101 to hit the market by the end of September.

Hardware like this is what Nokia is known for and it’s good to see that despite their dwindling marketshare, mindshare, and increased competition from no name Chinese handset vendors, Nokia is still pushing on and committing to their corporate slogan of “Connecting People”. It’s this feature phone division that contributes a significant portion of Nokia’s revenues that has kept them from being an acquisition target. No one really wants to take over the logistical nightmare that Nokia deals with on a daily basis just to be able to service the emerging economies.

The Nokia 101 is slated to cost just €25 ($35) but packs quite a bit of features - it's a dual-SIM phone (900/1800MHz, no dual-standby), with a 1.8" 128x160 pixels display, microSD card slot (for cards up to 16GB), MP3 player, 3.5mm audio jack, FM radio and a powerful 103-phon loudspeaker.

Nokia 101:
The Nokia 101 also packs a flashlight and an 800mAh battery that's good for up to 6 hours 40 minutes of talk time, 25 days of standby and 26 hours of music playback (with headset at 50% loudness).

The Nokia 100 is cheaper still at €20 ($30) and is a single-SIM device that is stripped of everything but the essentials. It has an FM radio and the same color screen as the 101. Surfing on the iPhone is done through the Safari web browser which provides Google and Yahoo search functionally and works independently from other online services, such as email, so you have the options to browse the net and download email simultaneously.

GPS is provided through the use of Google maps, so traffic reports and direction are always available.

Multimedia:
There are over 6000 applications including games available from the iPhone app store and over 100 of them are free. With so many app choices it’s hard not to find an application to keep you entertained for hours on end. Most of the apps are great and very affordable with each app averaging in around $4.00, but there is the ever present risk that you might go app purchase crazy and lose track of your spending. Remember to stay focused on apps that you need, as opposed to grabbing anything that might take your fancy!

The Accelerometer of the iPhone is a big plus. It allows images, videos, websites ect...to rotate with the display as the phone is rotated and adjusts the ratio accordingly.

When it comes to music and video content playback the iPhone shines. The phone can easily be used solely as a music/mps player and provides an identically user interface and functionality as Apple’s iPod Touch. The iPod feature gives you access to music and video with just a tap on the screen, however at times we did experienced a slight lag and distortion of our playback content but overall it works fine.

The User Friendliness of the iPhone 3G:
The OS system is awesome; It takes less than ½ a GB of storage and handles bundles and future applications from Apple. It takes a little time to adjust to the multi-touch system, but with practice, it becomes very easy to navigate and use different apps on the fly. You can get stock reports, weather reports and other helpful information with ease

Nokia X2-01 offers 2.4" inch QVGA display and runs Symbian 40 6th Edition OS which is similar to that of Nokia C3. It has a VGA camera capable of recording videos @24fps. Besides One key feature of X2-01 is the existence of dedicated music keys which are easy to use but you may regret the non existence of a dedicated camera key.

X2-01 offers great features within a tight budget. The main positives that we found about the phone are Dedicated music keys, Qwerty keypad which is comfortable to type, 3.5mm audio jack support, good social networking integration, comes pre-loaded with Opera mini.

Samsung Ch@t 222:

The competitor of the Nokia X2-01 is from the famous Ch@t series, the Ch@t 222 which was released after Ch@t 335 and Ch@t 332. Samsung Ch@t 222 focuses on tight budget market and aims to take place in the hearts of customers , blessed by good performance from the its elder sibblings already in the market. Ch@t 222 is priced similar to Nokia X2-01 and offers good value for money.

Key features include Dual Sim Support which is not available in the Nokia X2-01. Nevertheless , it lacks dedicated music keys and offers a 2.2" inch QVGA display that's 0.2 inch short then the Nokia X2-01.!!
Well that difference is negligible. The Nokia X2-01 offers 64MB RAM and 128 MB ROM which might put Nokia X2-01 ahead in terms of speed as compared to Samsung Ch@t 222. Video Recording in Samsung Ch@t 222 is also @15fps which is lower then the Nokia X2-01.

Samsung Ch@t 222 offers higher battery talktime of upto 12hours as compared to Nokia which offers 7hours of Talktime. Also Samsung Ch@t 222 comes only in black whereas Nokia X2-01 comes in different color variations.

Simply we can put the information together to find out who leads the other in terms of value for money.

Nokia C5-03, an inexpensive touchscreen smartphone with a couple of neat features that may well pique your interest if you want a new device that's simple to use but covers all of the essentials for modern-day phones.

The Nokia C5-03 has a 3.2-inch touch display and now features Wi-Fi, for fast internet access without the need or expense of a data plan. It also features a compass and assisted GPS for use with the latest version of the free Ovi Maps hands-free navigation service, now featuring public transport support and location sharing through social networks. like many recent Nokias, you can put your most important contacts directly onto the homescreen so you can call, message or chat them up in just two taps. The C5-03 has a 5-megapixel camera with 4X digital zoom, but no flash.

It measures 105.8 mm x 51.0 mm x 13.8 mm (L x W x H) and weighs 93g – that makes it a similar size to the (imminently) forthcoming C6-01, and quite a bit smaller than the Nokia N8 or C7. It comes with up to 40MB of user memory and support for MicroSD cards up to 16GB. The talktime is quoted at 11.5 hours for GSM use and 4.5 hours using 3G. Standby time is estimated at 24-25 days.

The operating system is Symbian^1 (aka. S60 5th edition touch-edition). The Nokia C5-03 allows for easy email set-up – either an existing webmail or POP3 provider through Nokia messaging. For business users, there’s also the option of Mail for Exchange. If that isn’t enough, you’ll also find a quick setup wizard for Ovi Mail for users either new to email or who want a different account for their mobile messaging. As you’d expect, there’s also access to Ovi Music and the Ovi Store so you can fill your device with fresh content on a daily basis.

Nokia X2-01 Review

The X2-01 is an aggressively priced sibling of the C3 that cuts a few corners to get to a price point that will be more appealing to the cash-strapped, QWERTY keyboard desiring phone buyer. Let's find out whether this phone doesn't give up too much to attain that under Rs. 7,000 price tag.

The Nokia X2-01 is designed differently than the C3-00. Where the C3 had a nice curvaceous body that we adored, the X2-01 has pointy edges and a noticeable use of cheaper quality materials. But fear not, the phone still feels fairly sturdy and shouldn't shatter into pieces after a few drops. The X2-01's design is a bit longish but doesn't cause any inconvenience while carrying it in the pocket.

The screen is exactly the same as the C3 -- a 2.4 incher with a QVGA resolution. Other than the lack of brightness control, we had no complaints with the display given the pricing. Content looks clear, fonts are nice and big thus bettering readability, and with a white background, text is fairly visible even under direct sunlight. The buttons above the keyboard click well and accurately. We liked the messaging and music player shortcut buttons to either sides of the D-pad.

The QWERTY keyboard is more or less similarly designed like the C3's, but for some reason, we felt the type-ability of the C3 was a tad better. Not to say the X2-01's QWERTY is bad -- it offers decent tactility and dedicated keys to frequently used symbols like a full-stop or a comma.

The 3.5mm earphone jack is located rightly to the top of the phone, while the thin-pin charging port is right next to it. The camera sensor and speaker grille lay at the back, as usual.

Nokia introduces a new budget mobile phone for growth markets, the Nokia X1-00. The new Nokia X1-00 is a music phone with an enormous speaker on the back. It’s likely that this Nokia mobile phone will also be used as the main music player at home, therefore this speaker can produce very loud music, without compromising in quality. The Nokia X1-00 comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, so you can plug it into speakers (or headphones, of course).

Nokia C7 Astound Review

The Astound is a generic quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and UMTS (850/900/1700/2100 MHz) smartphone, which means only 3G speeds are on board, unlike many T-Mobile handsets that are already using "4G" speeds.

The smartphone also features a GPS for location based services, Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, as well as an NFC chip. Ovi Maps comes with a new look and features free voice-guided navigation in over 70 countries, in case you're planning to travel abroad.

Another new feature found with the Astound but is not available with the C7 is the tab browsing experience with the Symbian^3 web browser. Switch between multiple tabs way easy, although the overall web browsing experience is not the same with competitive offers. We could also notice a slow rendering of complex web sites, so we were not very impressed with the performance of Flash Lite, especially since it is touchscreen device.

The best part about the Nokia Astound is its fantastic calling quality with voices on both ends of the line sounding natural and distinctive, and a great speakerphone performance. Wi-Fi calling is also available, coming in handy when necessary.

Moreover, no major changes in signal strength or dropped calls were experienced in high coverage areas.

The battery, rated at 9.5 hours of talk and 555 hours of standby time, has proven better than average in the smartphone category: two days of normal usage.

In case you get tired of the usual smartphones out there and want to experience Symbian^3, the Nokia Astound might be what you are looking for. The device sports a fantastic looking design assisted with various features (mostly met with high-end devices).

Its balanced performance and affordable cost will certainly help the device in the fierce competition of the mid-range market.

Nokia E6-00 Review

There are more firsts, it is the first phone in the E series to run the latest flavour of Symbian, Anna, and is also the first candybar in the series to come with an eight megapixel camera. It is also choc-a-bloc with the usual E Series goodie, connectivity options galore (Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, you name it), easy e-mail set-up, and lots of bundled software, along with 8GB of internal memory (with support for a 32GB memory card) and a 2.44 inch display with an unusually high resolution for the size (640 x 480 pixels).

And all this comes packed in a body that is definitely eye-catching. Nokia has clearly taken the best out of both the E71 and E72 in terms of looks, retaining metal accents on the front, a steel panel on the back, and serving up a spacious, four-row QWERTY keyboard (with a large spacebar, something we missed in the E72), in a frame that looks solid in spite of being just 10.5 mm thin.

But the E6 is not really about specs or looks, it is all about interface. And for the most part, it works a charm. The 2.44 inch touchscreen (capacitive, incidentally) might seem a bit small to some but it is just perfect for tasks like selecting items, hitting login buttons and scrolling through options or screens (you start out with four customisable homescreens on which you can park application shortcuts and widgets).

Speaking of which, there are no Menu and Options hardware buttons on this device, you need to touch the screen to make them work. Anna has considerably improved the appearance of Symbian, the icons are more colourful and the interface itself is more touch-friendly. The browser has been improved significantly with support for tabs and better and faster page rendering, you can even scroll up and down by tapping the upper or lower part of the display.

Finally, the display is a bit of a two-edged sword, the high-resolution and hundreds of pixels per inch make graphics look wonderfully bright and colourful but reading on it can sometimes become a strain, especially when you are online.

Nokia has bundled a Font Magnifier package with the phone, but we still found ourselves zooming in and out quite often, which could be irritating given the small size of the display.

While it is unlikely to convert hardcore iOS and Android fans to the Anna cause, it is likely to tempt a number of BlackBerry users who, at the moment, have nothing that is remotely in the same category.

The all new Nokia X7 comes with a brand new variant of the Symbian OS known as Anna. There is a new Series 40-powered feature phone from Nokia known as the Nokia C2-03, where it will merge Dual-SIM functionality with Touch and Type technology. Carrying a couple of SIM cards is getting more and more common these days, but what you need to do is make sure your phone is able to handle more than one SIM card slot so that both numbers can be reached at any one time, and the Nokia C2-03 intends to fulfil that role – with aplomb, I might add.

What makes the Nokia C2-03 so special? Well, for starters this is Nokia’s third Touch and Type phone and will be the first of its kind that features Dual-SIM. Normally, Dual-SIM phones will need to be switched off while getting the battery removed, in order for the SIM card to be inserted. This time around, the Nokia C2-03 will feature Easy Swap that lets you open the slot on the side of the phone, followed by inserting the new SIM card without having to reboot it at all.

Just in case you happen to have more than a couple of SIM cards, the Nokia C2-03 is more than capable of remembering the settings for up to five separate cards. The moment you have personalized your SIM (through naming it and adjusting its calling settings), you need not have to do so ever again. Measuring a mere 103mm x 51.4mm x 17mm, it will tip the scales at 118 grams. With a standby time of up to 400 hours and a talk time of up to five hours, you will get a display of up to 240 x 320 resolution at 65K colors.

Apart from the above mentioned, what makes the Nokia C2-03 special? It will be one of the few feature phones out there that have Nokia Maps, letting you get to a particularly unfamiliar destination without incurring expensive data charges, and best of all is, there is no need to throw in a GPS chip inside the phone since it will rely on triangulation to get the job done – even delivering turn-by-turn navigation.
