John Ruml, beloved husband of Myrle Ruml of Calgary, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 83 years.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Myrle; children, Janet (Cam), Laurie (Brian), Elaine, Adella (Bruce) and Tom; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Margaret Ellen Jones of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2010 at the wonderful age of 96 years.

Margaret was born on June 27, 1913 at Bonnie Doon Farm, Cheadle, AB. She was the amazing centre of her family, a walking historian, an avid reader, a student of current affairs, and forever an optimist. Margaret lived every day for her family and her family feel so very blessed that they shared her for so long. She will be greatly missed.

Margaret is survived by her children, George and Ingrid Jones, Gwen and Bruce Warrack, Jim Jones and Marg Richardson, Ruth Jones and Dirck Van Audenhove; as well as twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Maldwyn; her parents George and May Jackson; her stepmother Renie Jackson; and her brothers, Emory, Robert and Walter Jackson.

Frieda Holstein, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the age of 84 years after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Frieda’s memory will be cherished by her children, Blaine (Kari) Holstein and Patricia (Brian) Cannon; as well as her five grandchildren, Kris, Kathleen, Megan, Thomas, and Andrea. Frieda was predeceased by her husband of forty-nine years, Sam in 1997.

Margaret Russell, of Calgary, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the age of 84 years.

Born in Calgary in 1926, Margaret Russell was the elder of two daughters of Calgary Alderman, Jack Russell and his wife Mary Jean. Predeceased by her younger sister Anne Dick, Margaret was a caring aunt to Anne’s children. Niece Elizabeth Haigh, nephews Robert (Kathy) and John (Karly) Haigh and their families, brother-in-law Colin Dick and his son David Dick, all cared dearly for Margaret. They will all miss her presence at family dinners and her ever present holiday cards.

A true life-long Calgarian, Margaret had a dedicated career with the Calgary Public Library. In her final years, Margaret was a resident of Intercare Chinook Care Centre.

Eric Gale, husband of Marie (nee Cybulski) Gale, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 10, 2010, even though he told his grandchildren that he would live to be 192. Maybe he was…who knows?

He has left behind a loving family including his children, Grant Gale, Joyce (Adrian) Martinez, Stuart (Erin) Gale and Heather (Gordon) McIntosh. His grandchildren, Marilyn, Margaret, Krystina, Victoria, Spencer, Graeme, Catherine, Jocelyn, Mikayla, McKenna and Madelyn will miss him, but will keep Chico tuned for when they see him again. He is also survived by his brother, Mel (Roxanne) Gale, and many friends.

Eric gave generously of his time to various organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Kinsmen, and the Lions. He was a successful entrepreneur, leading several organizations as a hospital administrator, the President of Ergon Management, S.A. Power Corporation, and Universal Power Corporation, which took him to China and Hong Kong. He was also the International Chair for DECUS.

Ruth Johnson beloved wife of Ross Johnson of Calgary, passed away peacefully at her home in Calgary, on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the age of 86 years.

Ruth was born on October 24, 1923, in Edmonton, Alberta. After a short career at the Edmonton Journal, Ruth married Ross and then stayed home to raise their three children. She was active in their church, Delton Baptist and then Delwood Road Baptist Church in Edmonton. They moved to Red Deer and then Calgary to be close to their family. Two of Ruth’s favorite phrases were “If I’d known grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first.” and “Old age isn’t for sissies.”

Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Ross; her children Myrna (Jim Glenn), Kevin (Wendy Gardiner), Garth (Dana Johnson), and her grandchildren Cliff, Erik, Tanis, Greg and Kara.

November 10, 1914 – March 10, 2010

A wonderful, truly kind and sweet person, Annie Krivy, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Annie was born in Bellevue, AB, the eldest of four sisters. In January, 1933 at the age of 18 she married Joe Krivy in Calgary. During the ensuing years, she became well known by many in Calgary for her sewing skills which she continued until she was 92 years of age. Annie was always very active in the Slovak community, their organizations and assisting with the arrival of immigrants from Czechoslovakia. Joe died in 1992 after 59 years of marriage. She continued to reside at their home for another 15 years with her cats, driving everywhere (until 90), sewing and travelling. Slowly, her eyesight eroded and in 2007 she entered Southwood Care Centre to be near her sister Katie.

Her loss will be deeply mourned by her four children, Frances (Chuck) Purchase of Rockwood Ontario, Joanna Becker, Gary Krivy and Sharon Krivy all of Calgary. She also leaves four grand daughters, Anna Marie Becker, Leslie Becker, Nicole (Tony Bulhao) Purchase and Andrea (Ed) Sceviour. In 2007 her first great grandchild was born, Declan Sceviour, followed by Braxton Sceviour and Maxliam Bulhao this year. Annie is also survived by her sister Josephine Uhlir of Hacienda Heights California and her brother Lawrence (Sharon) Matusik of Calgary. Annie was predeceased by her husband Joe, her daughter Joanna’s husband Ed Becker (2000) and her sisters Verona Smee (2003) and Katie Perozak (2009). Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Southwood Care Centre who looked after Mother and her family doctors, Dr. G. Haywood and Dr. T. Cran who were always there for her. Her final two weeks were spent at Rockyview Hospital with the very special Dr. A. Tupper and Dr. B. Simmons and staff on Unit 83.

Kieran McGarrigle was born on August 23, 1949 and passed away March 10, 2010 after a brave struggle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Anne; daughters, Karen and Samantha; son Eugene; and granddaughter Kiara. Kieran was born in Strabane, Northern Ireland and immigrated to Calgary, along with his family in 1981. He worked as an instrument technician at Western Co-Op Fertilizers, Suncor in Fort McMurray and ended his career at the City of Calgary. Kieran achieved national level soccer referee status and received many awards for his dedication and commitment to the soccer community. In memory of Kieran and his love of life he asked that we all wear something of colour for the service.

Betty passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Betty was born in Calgary on August 15, 1926. She will be forever in the hearts of her loving family Gerry (Heather) Milton, Lynne (Garry) Schmidt, Kathy (Keith) Tillotson, Wendy (Rob) Cornick and Scott (Anne) Milton. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Phil and Mary Milton, Nikki Tillotson and Jen (Dave) Milz, Andrew and Chris Cornick, Darren Schmidt and Tyler and Sarah Milton as well as one great-grandchild, Kayla Milz and her brother Cliff [Judy]. She was predeceased by her husband, William Lorne Milton, her infant daughter Brenda, and great-grandchildren Justin and Ethan Milz. Betty was an amazing woman, and her love of family was evident in all she did. She worked for the Calgary Albertan and Sun until 1988 and served as President of the Royal Canadian Legion (Chapelhow Branch Ladies Auxilliary). She generously volunteered her time to many other worthwhile causes. Her favourite times were those spent on family camping trips, holidays at the Meadows and any gathering of family and friends. She was a kind and generous woman and focused on what was possible in life, never dwelling on limitations. She cherished her many friends and enjoyed the time she spent with them. We will miss her so much but will celebrate a life well-lived each day. We are very proud, mom, to have been a part of your life.

She will be missed by her daughters Marina (Les) Matthes, Bonny Bellamy, Grandchildren Tracy Feschuk, Kelly (Rose Ann) Wold, Kris Wold, Wanda Bone, Sandra Bellamy, Darren (Wendy) Matthes, eight Great Grandchildren, her sisters Ada Gogal, Evelyn McAlister, Thelma (Larry) Ball, brother Vic (Norma) Hautzinger, many nieces, nephews and friends. Elsie is predeceased by her husband Paul, parents John and Elizabeth Hautzinger, brothers Ed, Joe, John, sisters Hilda and Louise, and granddaughter Shelley.
