Sheryl is a great speaker and previously she worked at Google, McKinsey and chief of staff of the US Secretary of the Treasury. This was the same week that Facebook announced that it is cash flow positive, has reached 300million users (70% outside the US) from 100 million a year ago. And 50% come back every day. And the most important thing for us, users upload to Facebook 2 billion photos a month, making Facebook the biggest repository of photos on the Internet. Sheryl Sandberg, delivered a keynote titled, "Knowing is Better". She defined Facebook as "what you are using to connect wherever you are" and it is "where you go when you want to share or connect". The average user spends 5.7 hours a month on Facebook.?At the end of the talk, she invited to state Michael Lynton (CEO of Sony Pictures) and John Burbank (CEO of the Online Division of Nielsen) and announced an alliance combining Facebook?s global consumer reach with Nielsen?s market research expertise to provide better insight and information to marketers. The first product of the collaboration, Nielsen BrandLift, is designed to provide marketers with effectiveness measurement for Facebook advertising.Regarding marketing and Facebook, she pointed some things:She highlighted the importance of fan pages. Currently there are more than 1.4 million active fan pages. The importance is that it is not one time impression.
She also said that "people want to interact with Marketers the same way they interact with friends and family", engaging, asking questions, etc.
FB is not only about realtime, but also about chronicling your life.
FB is personalized. You choose what you want to see (there are people that want to see only 4 friends, or people that want to see everything). The user can choose.
Facebook users tell you what they like. At the end of the keynote we talked to her and showed her our photobooks and she kept one.

In the Thick of It

Thanksgiving was just last week, but it seems like ages ago.
