The screenplay this time was co-written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof. Most of the crew is back, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin & John Cho. Paramount is bringing Into Darkness to theaters May 17th.

Second Trailer for Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit' Trilogy + Alternate Endings

Warner Bros/WingNut Films have unveiled the new trailer for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the beginning of Bilbo's three-part adventure into Middle Earth. Martin Freeman plays Bilbo Baggins, and is joined by the company of dwarves, lead by Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. Of course, Sir Ian McKellen is back as Gandalf, and there's glimpses of Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving and even Sylvester McCoy as Radagast the Brown. This is a much more magnificent and, honestly, more exciting improvement over the first trailer, which I enjoyed, but I think Jackson is settling into the story and getting ready to bring us another spectacular fantasy epic.

The new trailer contains a set of five different alternate endings, courtesy of an online app called "Choose Your Moment" made by Warner Bros. It allows you to create a different trailer to send to your friends, each one with a different bit of footage. The Playlist has found a compilation with five four endings in a row - they're all worth watching.

Honestly, these clips seem to capture more of the magic of Middle Earth than anything before. For optimal viewing, watch these clips on WB's Choose Your Moment website.

Tolkien's The Hobbit, being directed by Peter Jackson as three separate movies, is set in Middle-Earth 60 years before Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in a trilogy ten years ago. The films, with screenplays by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, were shot consecutively in digital 3D using the latest cameras. The Hobbit follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey arrives in theaters in 3D & 48FPS on December 14th.

New International 'Skyfall Trailer'

Chances are you’ve seen at least one Skyfall trailer already, but as the release date creeps tantalisingly close, there’s always room for some new nuggets of footage, which can be found lurking in the new international promo bellow.

And at this point, you probably don’t need the plot basics explained once more, but just in case: Skyfall finds Daniel Craig’s Bond pitted against a particularly nasty villain Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem).

This new bad guy has a personal vendetta against MI6 and M (Judi Dench) in particular, and from the looks of the footage we’ve seen so far, the resources and determination to strike at the very heart of the Secret Service.

Naturally the majority of the story beats are still being kept in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “Beware of the Leopard”, but we know we can expect action on trains, tubes, bikes and roofs, sultry Bond Girl action from Severine (Bérénice Marlohe) and Eve (Naomie Harris) plus the first appearance of Q (played here by Ben Whishaw) in the Craig Bond’s world.

With Sam Mendes calling the shots, Ralph Fiennes, Helen McCrory, Albert Finney and Ola Rapace are all among the cast.

Skyfall makes landfall here In Mozambique probably on October 26. American audiences will have to wait until November 9.

Thanos Confirmed for Both 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Avengers 2'?

I’ve heard a number of key Marvel stories come to fruition over the past few days. Many were rumored, and believed to be true. But now we’re getting confirmation on such notices as James Gunn taking over the writing and directing duties on Guardians of the Galaxy. And now we’re getting some information on both Galaxy and The Avengers 2, which you might have already assumed.

Remember the end credit sequence of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, which featured a very brief cameo by Thanos? Well, CosmicBookNews.com is reporting that the mighty cosmic warrior will be the chief adversary in both Gunn’s Galaxy movie and Whedon’s Avengers follow up, which hits theaters in 2015. Many speculated on this possibility back in August, mentioning that Galaxy could be following the “Thanos Imperative” storyline from the comics. Now a site reader over at Cosmic Book News claims to have met with Thanos creator Jim Starlin at the Montreal Comic-Con, and was told that a deal “is already in place” to have the character appear in both movies.

Again, this much could have been figured out. Whedon wasn’t going to roll out Thanos in an Avengers stinger if Marvel Studios didn’t have massive plans for the villain. And after decimating New York City in the first Avengers film, many believed that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would have to take the next battle into outer space, as the group often did in the comics series.

I’ll feel better when we hear some confirmation from Kevin Feige or someone at Marvel directly (even Whedon or Gunn could give put our minds at ease with a word of confirmation). Until then, brace for Thanos, but take this news with a grain of salt.

The Dark Knight Rises Available on Blu-ray and Digital Download Dec. 3

A new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises just went live on YouTube. The description confirms that the film will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital Download on December 3. Though the cover for the home video release or any special features have yet to be revealed, keep an eye here for any more updates about the film. You can take a look at the 'new' trailer below.

In The Dark Knight Rises, it has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

The Dark Knight Rises has earned $1.058 billion at the worldwide box office.

Is Rupert Wyatt Exiting ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes?’

Despite its awful title, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was actually one of the biggest surprises of 2011. Anchored by a brilliant motion capture performance by Andy Serkis, a well-developed script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and solid direction by Rupert Wyatt, the movie was given rave reviews and was a box office smash, pulling in $481 million globally on a modest $93 million budget. The success led 20th Century Fox to almost immediately green light a sequel that would follow the continuing development of Caesar and his ape army, but now it's looking like the project may lose its director.

Deadline is reporting news from insiders that Wyatt could be stepping away from the sequel, which will be titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Much like the circumstances that led Gary Ross to not sign on for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, apparently the filmmaker is ready to jump ship because he is uncomfortable with the timeline that the studio has given him to get the movie made. Back in May it was reported that Fox is aiming to release the film on May 23, 2014, and apparently Wyatt doesn't believe that he will have enough time between now and then to make a quality product. While the release date may seem far away, you also have to remember that a great deal of work goes into constructing the film's CGI, so it's easy to see how a rushed schedule could potentially harm the final product.

Fox declined to comment on the story, but if it's true then they will have to work quickly to find a replacement. The good news is that because Rise of the Planet of the Apes was so successful they could have a chance to rope in some serious talent. The studio is apparently very happy with the sequel script from Jaffa and Silver, and we'll just have to wait and see what the next step is. Outside of the Planet of the Apes franchise, Wyatt is also attached to Agent 13 with Charlize Theron and has shown an interest in Londongrad with Michael Fassbender, so the filmmaker probably won't be off the big screen for too long, even if this project falls through.

Eon Productions has debuted the latest poster (via ComingSoon) for James Bond's Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes, starring Daniel Craig as 007. They've gone back to the classy Bond we know, just posing him with Walter PPK in hand in front of the dark gun-barrel swirl and a hint of London's Union Jack. I quite like it, but it's not that original in design. See in full below!

The Legacy Rises at the Box Office

It seemed like an impossible mission to stop The Dark Knight Rises topping the charts for a fourth week.

But spy thriller The Bourne Legacy managed to accomplish the feat thanks to a whopping $40.3m opening.

And it seems punters voted on their feet for Will Ferrell's latest movie The Campaign, as it sped past the superhero picture to take the second spot.

Jeremy Renner was doubtlessly shooting his pistols in the air when he learned The Bourne Legacy had topped the box office charts. Given the previous three Bourne movies have yielded almost $1 billion at the box office, the newest entry seemed a sure-fire winner.

However, capturing the box office crown is still an impressive accomplishment, as Legacy features neither the series' star Matt Damon, not the skills of director Paul Greengrass.

This is the first film in the franchise not to star Matt Damon... Instead, Universal cast Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, a member of a CIA black ops programme similar to the one Jason Bourne was involved in.

His character tries to escape assassination at the hands pursuers from the agency with the help of genetic scientist Marta Shearing, played by Rachel Weisz.

They are trying to kill him due to the fallout from the outcome of The Bourne Ultimatum.

Opening weekend sales beat studio projections for a $35m debut, and it is well on its way to paying off its $125m budget.

The Campaign did better than expected.

It sees a sleazy Democrat played by Will Ferrell facing off against Zack Galifianakis' dimwitted Republican in a race for U.S. Congress.

Warner Bros president of theatrical distribution Dan Fellman said the political comedy played especially well in Washington and Boston as the presidential race heats up.

He added: 'We think that the real campaign will add to our Campaign.'

'The Dark Knight Rises' First Wave Of Reviews

As I'm combing through these reviews it's safe to say that Christopher Nolan has not only met the high expectations of fans and critics, but more importantly conquered the curse of the third film in a franchise. Which is something that eluded films like Godfather 3, Alien 3, Superman III, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Toy Story 3, just to name a few.

Variety

Few blockbusters have borne so heavy a burden of audience expectation as Christopher Nolan's final Batman caper, and the filmmaker steps up to the occasion with a cataclysmic vision of Gotham City under siege in "The Dark Knight Rises." Running an exhilarating, exhausting 164 minutes, Nolan's trilogy-capping epic sends Batman to a literal pit of despair, restoring him to the core of a legend that questions, and powerfully affirms, the need for heroism in a fallen world. If it never quite matches the brilliance of 2008's "The Dark Knight," this hugely ambitious action-drama nonetheless retains the moral urgency and serious-minded pulp instincts that have made the Warners franchise a beacon of integrity in an increasingly comicbook-driven Hollywood universe. Global B.O. domination awaits.

The Hollywood Reporter - SPOILERS!

The real world threats of terrorism, political anarchy and economic instability make deep incursions into the cinematic comic book domain in The Dark Knight Rises. Big-time Hollywood filmmaking at its most massively accomplished, this last installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy makes everything in the rival Marvel universe look thoroughly silly and childish. Entirely enveloping and at times unnerving in a relevant way one would never have imagined, as a cohesive whole this ranks as the best of Nolan's trio, even if it lacks -- how could it not? -- an element as unique as Heath Ledger's immortal turn in The Dark Knight. It's a blockbuster by any standard.
The director daringly pushes the credibility of a Gotham City besieged by nuclear-armed revolutionaries to such an extent that it momentarily seems absurd that a guy in a costume who refuses to kill people could conceivably show up to save the day. This is especially true since Nolan, probably more than any other filmmaker who's ever gotten seriously involved with a superhero character, has gone so far to unmask and debilitate such a figure. But he gets away with it and, unlike some interludes in the previous films, everything here is lucid, to the point and on the mark, richly filling out (especially when seen in the IMAX format) every moment of the 164-minute running time.

IGN

The film has several exciting action set-pieces, many of which utilize the aerial vehicle The Bat, but none of which provoke the kind of jaw-dropping reaction that the truck flip did in The Dark Knight. Still, there are enough brawls, chases, and stuff going boom to satisfy hungry action fans. The battle in the streets pitting Bane’s army against Batman and the GCPD is quite a sight to behold in IMAX. Speaking of which, far more of this film was shot in IMAX than The Dark Knight, but the transitions here between full screen IMAX and the almost “letterbox” effect of regular film can be jarring. That said, IMAX really is the best way to watch this movie.
The aforementioned gripes aside, director Christopher Nolan and his team have delivered the grandest, most emotional and superheroic chapter in their Batman saga. The Dark Knight Rises is a fitting emotional and narrative conclusion to this particular interpretation of the enduring story of Bruce Wayne the man and Batman the legend.

Warner Bros. has released what will presumably be the final trailer for the film. Entitled “Journey”, the latest trailer pulls clips from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight before showing how Bane’s arrival in Gotham will force Batman to join an all-out street war. There are some new pieces of footage in this trailer, but it doesn't look like there are any major spoilers.

'God of War' Back Gets A New Writer Duo

The last update I heard regarding a big screen version of the hit video game God of War placed Brett Ratner as the adaptation's director when the project was still at Universal Pictures. Now, years later, Sony Pictures is starting fresh on the property and The Hollywood Reporter says that the studio has brought aboard Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to draft a screenplay.

The game, created by David Jaffe and Shannon Studstill, was released for PlayStation 2 in March of 2005. Set in ancient Greece, the story follows the battles of the warrior Kratos, who tackles mythological beasts including Medusa, Cyclops and the Hydra. Players navigate Kratos on his quest to find Pandora's Box and destroy Ares, the god of war.

In addition to work on the upcoming Pacific Rim, Melton and Dunstan have worked on films in the Saw series and the recent Piranha 3DD.

One final IMAX midnight poster has been revealed on Fandango (via Movies.com) that features Bane and nothing but Bane, played by Tom Hardy. I know we've seen an inordinate amount of The Dark Knight Rises posters and banners and photos recently, but we're down to the last few weeks—days, almost—so why not go all out, throw everything on the table, and end this thing with a bang. All 12:01AM IMAX moviegoers will get one.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey gets a Massive Banner!

Whoa, what kind of odd marketing is this? Entertainment Weekly (via ComingSoon) has unveiled a new banner for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit that, in 5000px of horizontal digital space, visualizes the entire story. Or at least, the entire story that I think we'll be seeing in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Lots of great visuals and imagery in this as a perfect tease for The Hobbit. The Hobbit is being directed by Peter Jackson in two separate parts, is set in Middle-earth 60 years before Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in a trilogy ten years ago. The Hobbit films, with screenplays by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, will be shot consecutively in digital 3D using the latest camera technology. The Hobbit follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. 13-Minute TV Special on The Dark Knight Rises!

For the next two weeks, avoiding spoilers for The Dark Knight Rises might be as easy as tiptoeing through a minefield. Press screenings have begun, which means fan screenings will soon start, too, and all the secrets to Christopher Nolan‘s highly anticipated conclusion of his Batman trilogy will be out in the wild. Thankfully, this brand new 13-minute featurette has very little in the way of new spoilers.

The video takes us through the obvious story arc following The Dark Knight, as it talks about cast, characters and gives a great behind the scenes look at several of the big action scenes that have been revealed to date. We see the plane, the football field, Wall Street, and more. Acting as sort of a catch-all to the previously released images, posters, trailers and commercials, this featurette is an absolute perfect way to increase your excitement for the film without ruining too much of the story. Check it out below.

I think what strikes me most about the above video is actually seeing Nolan shoot the action scenes. We know he does it with practical effects, but to actually see him directing the plane heist from the opening in a nearby helicopter is fantastic. Actually blowing up stuff at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh and having thousands of people running down Wall Street are visuals that, even in this tiny YouTube window, look incredible. And when we see them in a Huge Screen? I shudder to think of the impact.

Last thing. I was extremely encouraged not only by Nolan’s insistence that this needed to be a great ending, but that he’s obviously aware of the previous films and promises they made.

Amazing International Trailer for 'The Tall Man' Horror

Thanks to Vlicious, we have an international (French) trailer for the film The Tall Man. The film is called The Secret in France, written & directed by Pascal Laugier (Martyrs), starring Jessica Biel and Jodelle Ferland, about a guy who takes children. This trailer is way better than I was expecting. It looks totally chilling and unsettling, but also surprisingly well-made. There's a very tense vibe to it, and I'm curious to find out what's really going on. Check this out!

‘Total Recall’ Theatrical Trailer

Everything you thought you know might not be what it seems. That’s both true in the world of Total Recall and regarding your previous thoughts on the movie. Sony just released a brand new trailer for the Len Wiseman directed August 3 remake starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel and it’s filled with so many epic looking action scenes, set pieces and special effects, it might actually get you pumped up for the film. The story is almost beat for beat the same as Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 original (which in turn was based on a Phillip K. Dick short story) but Wiseman’s budget definitely makes this, at least look like, a remake that’ll be worth seeing.

'The Avengers', Now Third Highest Grossing Film of All Time

We may be nearing the halfway point of the summer movie season already, but Marvel’s The Avengers is still looming over the 2012 “blockbusters” that have come and gone like the slightly older yet much more successful brother of the bunch. We’ve seen moderate box office successes from films like Men in Black 3, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Madagascar 3, but nothing has come close to the behemoth box office giant that was Marvel’s mother of all superhero movies.

The film shattered the opening weekend record with over $200 million in three days, and now Disney has announced that The Avengers is expected to cross the $600 million domestic mark today, making it only the third film in history to reach that number. Hit the jump for more, including a rundown of what the all-time box office chart looks like now.

First up, here’s a quick look at all the records The Avengers has broken thus far:

Highest opening weekend – $207 million
Highest second weekend – $103 million
Highest Saturday total – $69.5 million
Highest Sunday total – $57 million
Fastest to reach $200 million – 3 days
Fastest to reach $300 million – 9 days
Fastest to reach $400 million – 14 days
Fastest to reach $500 million – 23 days

Now it’s time to add one more to that list, as the film is expected to cross the $600 million mark today. This firmly puts The Avengers behind Titanic and Avatar as the third highest grossing film of all time (both domestically and internationally), as it eclipses The Dark Knight stateside. For those wondering if The Dark Knight Rises has the ability to overtake The Avengers either in the opening weekend or all-time record, it’s doubtful. We live in the age of 3D, and the higher ticket prices now make these box office records hard to beat (not to mention misleading). That said, I have no doubt that the box office success of The Dark Knight Rises will be impressive.

For curiosity’s sake, let’s take a look at the top ten highest grossing films domestically as of right now (per Box Office Mojo):

1. Avatar – $760.5 million
2. Titanic – $658.6 million
3. The Avengers – $599.3 million
4. The Dark Knight - $533.3 million
5. Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace – $474.5 million
6. Star Wars – $460.9 million
7. Shrek 2 – $441.2 million
8. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial – $435.1 million
9. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $423.3 million
10. The Lion King – $422.7 million

It’s nearly impossible for The Avengers to overtake Titanic at this point (James Cameron remains the King of the World), but third is nothing to scoff at. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about records being broken by The Avengers when the film hits Blu-ray later this year.

Audiences are used to seeing Tyler Perry dressed up like an old woman, but this fall they'll be seeing a completely different side of the actor in Alex Cross, an adaptation of a character from James Patterson's detective novels. The film borrows its title from one of the books, but it's almost entirely an original story. The first poster has arrived with Fox (no muscles exposed) looming over Cross and his city. I hate the tagline, but the poster isn't bad.

Liam Neeson Ponders Snapping Necks in the French 'Taken 2' Poster

The teaser trailer for the action thriller sequel Taken 2 certainly got some people excited. Now a poster from France has Neeson standing, gun in hand, and likely pondering about the best way to kill his enemies in pursuit of him and his family. It's always best to ponder these things in low light and in front of large numbers as well. It's nothing spectacular, but fans already know what they want and expect from a sequel like this, so there's not much selling to do. Look!

Taken 2 is a sequel to the surprise 2008 action hit starring Liam Neeson. French filmmaker Olivier Megaton (of Colombiana and Transporter 3 previously) directs the film from a script by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen (who both wrote the original Taken film and Fifth Element together); Besson is also producing. 20th Century Fox is bringing Taken 2 to theaters everywhere starting on October 5th this year. ‘The Prototype’ Teaser: ‘Act of Valor’ Company Does Sci-Fi

The Bandito Brothers surprised a lot of people with Act of Valor earlier this year, a small-budget feature starring active-duty members of the military which provided a fresh perspective on a tired genre. They've got a few other projects in the works, but none of them sound as promising as their newest endeavor.

Deadline points us to a new teaser for The Prototype, written and directed by Andrew Will and starring "Justified" and Captain America actor Neal McDonough. With a budget of under $40 million and thematic similarities to Neill Blomkamp's fantastic District 9, you don't want to miss this sci-fi action. Here's the teaser used to sell The Prototype from the Bandito Brothers via Deadline:

Apparently the project wasn't supposed to be auctioned off until later next month, but after the teaser leaked, a studio could swoop in and scoop this one up any time now. Somebody certainly should, because the visual effects are excellent and, more importantly, it looks like there's a hint of a solid storyline involved, too, meaning it won't be just a series of chases with no emotional attachment to the characters. The acting was the worst part of Act of Valor, but if Will and the Bandito Bros. can pull quality talent like McDonaugh for the teaser, let's hope they're able to round out the cast with similar talent and give us a truly memorable spiritual successor to District 9 as soon as possible. Thoughts?

International 'Taken 2' trailer Hits... Hard

The time has come to see retired CIA operative Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) in action as an international trailer for the flick has just surfaced. While there's a half-ass attempt to replicate the thrill of the cell phone scene from the first film between Neeson and his daughter (Maggie Grace), the trailer still packs a lot of punch, and should be a great treat for fans this fall with plenty of gunfire and snapped necks.

‘Jurassic Park IV’ to Be Written by ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Screenwriters

Deadline reports Rise of the Planet of the Apes screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have been hired to write the sequel with Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy both producing.

As of now there are no plot details, but this is the most solid news we've gotten on the potential sequel, and we still don't know if it will act as a franchise reboot to open up for more sequels. This writing duo successfully pulled of a Planet of the Apes sequel, so I'd say they're probably are the best people for the job.

Deadline also says Spielberg won’t direct the fourth film, which shouldn't shock anyone. I’m sure some will still hold out hope that he might change his mind, but don’t be too hopeful.

Spielberg did say last year “hopefully we’ll make it in the next two or three years,” and this hire suggests that timetable may not be too far off, at least if the script turns out well.

Universal is likely testing the Jurassic Park interest pool with their re-release of the first film in 3D next summer on July 19th, 2013. Lets Hope it's not any worse than the third installment, and brings back Jeff Goldblum. But what will we do without Stan Winston and his magnificent effects?
