So it was that the Three MMOsketeers did gather once more, virtually speaking, and discuss this week in MMO gaming. Which may or may not have included:

  • Star Wars: The Old Republic – 1.2, the Rakghoul event, and the slightly peculiar free time offer.
  • Everquest 2‘s Game Update 63, and the last word, for now, on the ProSiebenSat deal
  • Questions from Twitter are contemplated, cogitated, and duly dispatched, including much musing on why instancing and/or multiple servers are necessary.
  • Ark sings the praises of Legend of Grimrock (Not literally. This time.), while Petter waxes whimsical about Wakfu.

So this episode is, unsurprisingly, a lot about EVE Online. We get some audio straight from the #Tweetfleet meetup at the Celtic Cross, where we were joined by our podcasting friend Seismic Stan and Owen from PC Gamer UK. We also got the mic in front of CCP Manifest, CCP’s PR and social media-guy who is very popular with the game’s community. No wonder, he’s a great guy! Dust 514, the upcoming shooter which will be tied into EVE Online, gets some well-deserved attention too.

There was actually some time to talk about other games as well – World of Darkness and Star Trek Online both got some love during the episode. But mostly, it’s all about EVE Online this week.

We were forewarned of Petter’s grand adventure to the lands of ice and snow, to the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. His exclusive report from the beating heart of EVE will be coming next week, assuming he doesn’t get blown up by gate-campers while returning with his precious cargo of news. Contributions towards a Petter jump-clone will be gratefully accepted.

The people at Sony Online Entertainment sure aren’t strangers to controversy and today they announced yet again that they had done something that the players actually didn’t want; in this case, joining forces with German ProSiebenSat.1 to serve European players. The deal has already been made for eight of SOE’s games and effectively cuts off American players from European players, some of which have already formed social bonds across borders. Good luck playing Planetside 2 with your international buddies come launch!
