Which cloud service would you use in building a mobile app?

We've been noticing in the industry that mobile apps are tied to cloud services. Back in 2008 when I started working at MOTODEV that wasn't the case but now in 2012 I feel like almost every app is tied to the cloud.

I graduated from San Jose State University in 1999 and back then there were no mobile apps to help me learn, communicate with my teachers, receive my grades, etc...If only I was on the 10 year plan I might have seen the first step in mobile+edu but I digress. In 2012, smartphones and tablets are prevalent across all campuses around the globe and that is an opportunity that mobile developers should take advantage of.

Desire2Learn in cooperation with Procom are doing a pitch session (with a couple slots available to the online audience via Adobe Connect) on March 28 where they are looking for the brightest ideas to bring mobile into education market. What would help the students? the teachers? the school? Think of your learning experience and how it could've been better with an Android application on a Motorola Mobility smartphone or tablet.

Linux and Android - together at last

The news broke at the weekend that Linux version 3.3 had been released. At the top of the list of "prominent new features in release" was "Android merge". I was so surprised, I fell off my couch, and spilled a cup of tea over the dog! But it was OK, he turned out to be a "lap" dog.

Public Service Announcement: Back up your keystore today

If you publish apps, whether it be to Android Market, another app store, or just distributing them on your own website, you have a certificate and that certificate is held in a keystore. If this file is lost, you lose the ability to update your apps on the Android Market. If you submit an app update signed with a new certificate, your users will have to reinstall your app signed with the new certificate. It’s quite simple to avoid this: all you need to do is back up the keystore containing your certificates and you’re safe.

Motorola Mobility at Forrester Security Conference

At the Forrester Security conference this week, Forrester shared an interesting finding: that mobile workers are more productive than non-mobile workers. They shared a few facts from their research, including mobile employees work 20% more, commute further and are compensated 44% more than their peers. In addition, Forrester found the average mobile worker has at least 3 devices.
